Personality
Wildly eccentric and incredibly condescending, Ren is quite peculiar. He gets a huge kick out of teasing others; never quite bullying, but just crude enough to get people to dislike him. He is pushy and touchy, and enjoys getting right up into people's faces. He isn't, however, the kind to participate in a fight. He may start one, but he's all bark and no bite. Regardless of how it seems, he never really intends to hurt people. From his perspective, he's just having harmless fun. He sees these teasing moments as bonding experiences, and considers people he can get away with teasing his good friends. Ren is not privy to others' feelings, however. Even with the purest of intentions, he always winds up hurting someone anyway. When serious moments come, he transforms into a completely different person. Ren sits down, shuts up, and listens to what's being said. Despite his weirdness, he strives to understand people and have wholesome relationships. Ren's lack of empathy is his biggest flaw. It’s also his biggest motivator; all Ren wants, from a social standpoint, is to be able to comprehend and understand people. Due to these social ineptitudes, he has been unable to make any lasting friendships. Ren puts on a strong front, but is quite the vulnerable child himself-- weak to somebody else’s words. Easy to insult, even easier to offend, but he won't say anything. Ren refuses to communicate his own feelings, and will pretend to shrug it off.. Instead, he'll just retort back in the most carefree manner he can manage.
Description
Ren is tall for his age, standing at roughly 173cm. He hit puberty early, though his face and body retain the soft chubbiness of childhood. His face is oval shaped, with a cute flat nose. His bottom lip is fuller than his top, and he always seems to be pouting. His eyes point slightly inward, his iris an overbearing, violent cinnabar vermillion. His eyelashes are full and nearly perfect. Ren’s eyebrows are neat and tidy, though he swears he never does anything to him-- It’s believable, since his eyebrows are also naturally thick. Ren’s complexion is smooth and seemingly flawless. One aspect of Ren’s appearance stands out enough to make strangers gawk at him: His mallen streak, a product of Poliosis. To the left of his face is a streak of hair that is completely white, in contrast the warm purpley-browns of the rest of his hair. His Poliosis also affects various eyelashes and some eyebrow hairs on the left of his face, but isn't anything noticeable from a distance. The patch of skin his white streak protrudes from is also noticeably lighter than the rest of his body. Ren's skin tone is a warm, russet brown. His lighter patch of skin leans more towards a tawny, sandy brown. In a word, Ren is picturesque. Not uncommon in this world, Ren has a battle scar; his left eye is missing. The removal was clean, but his socket remains empty. The only thing keeping people from staring at his empty left socket is his bangs, which are deliberately styled to cover it. His bangs frame his face neatly, with his mallen streak and some extra sections blanketing the left side of his face. His hair is shoulder-length, and flares out at the bottom. Ren’s face may be beautiful, but his hair is wild and a complete mess most of the time. To alleviate that, Ren pulls his hair back into a neat, high bun. He’s also got a cowlick near the top of his head.
As for fashion, Ren always wears a sky-blue kimono piece as outerwear. Sensitive about his hands, Ren also always has black, perfectly-fitted, evening-style fingerless gloves on; fingerless, so he can show off his shiny black nail polish. All of the tops he owns have either tall collars, are turtlenecks, or simply cover his neck in general. He typically wears a comfortable black zip-up sweater vest that covers and adheres to his neck. Ren wears simple black capris that flare slightly past his knees. He has the standard open-toed sandals on.

History
Ren was born and raised in Hidden Sand. His early childhood was fairly normal, though once he was old enough to fight his father insisted on constantly training him. Since Ren was never able to make friends, he had a lot of time for training. In the morning, he’d help his mother with chores, in the afternoon he’d practice basic academics, and in the evening he’d be sparring with his father.
Ren was not a fast learner, and after he turned 11, his father had a lot of pent-up frustration about Ren’s failing as a fighter. During what would be their final training session, Ren’s father snapped. Blinded by rage, Ren’s father absolutely devastated him, leaving him battered and beaten. Ren did not take the beating lying down, however, and after he parsed what was happening, he struggled to fight back. The majority of his moves were ineffective, but when Ren’s father went for his face, his instincts kicked in: without intending to, Ren shot a blast of ice at his father. Attention focused on the sudden revelation of their previously dormant Haku bloodline, Ren’s father unintentionally smashed Ren’s eye. The impact of his father’s fist caused Ren’s shot to go haywire; missing his father completely. His left eye was damaged so severely that it was beyond saving; and it was removed as soon as possible. But after Ren recovered, he failed to replicate what had happened that day.
With his family now torn apart, Ren left home with a newfound goal: understanding his hidden strengths and honing them properly. Leaving the Wind country behind, Ren hopped on a boat and sailed the ocean, eventually settling in the Lightning country. Holding up in Port Cirrus for a time, Ren soon made up his mind to get into Hidden Cloud. He figured it would be his best shot about learning more about himself and his abilities. He made the journey up through the mountains by himself, and all the wear and tear from his trip made his false story more convincing: he claimed to be an orphan from a nearby town, and with a brief show of ninjutsu the guards took him in. Ren has since stayed at the Tsuyoshi State Orphanage, and has begun attending the academy.
