Appearance: Staying below the surface has caused Koji's skin to remain pale. He stands a bit taller than average height for his age and is fairly skinny and lanky. Koji has red/maroon colored hair that he has let grow since he was a boy. It hangs wildly around his head and face. Looking into his eyes you can see he has soothing sea green eyes and a face that is starting to show signs of growing older. The boy will often be seen wearing a long sleeve cloak or something with long sleeves. He has a small limp you may notice if staring at his feet/legs.
Personality: Koji is an extremely kind and shy child. He is very much an introvert, largely due to the problems that occurred with his delivery, and can be extremely self conscious. Koji does not have trouble making or keeping friends but has trouble making new ones and often perceives himself in a more negative light than he appears. He loves to laugh and socialize so once you've shown him you're a true friend there are many great times sure to come. Since Koji does not have large groups of close friends he cares heavily for the ones he does have and will go to extreme lengths to keep friends and family happy and safe. He is also extremely dedicated to pushing himself due to conquering his difficult problems as a child and constantly strives to keep them away.
History: Koji's parents were both loyal and loving citizens of Sungakure. They both had grown up there and met each other as young children. As young ones they were the best of friends always laughing and playing together. As time passed them by and the two grew older they separated. His father became a shinobi and his mother the owner of a shop. But as fate would have it these two were meant to be back together, this time for good. The two fell in love and started a family.
Their first born was Koichi. He was energetic and spirited, never shy. The boy grew to be the age of about 5 when his parents decided to try for one more.
Enter, Koji.
Though Koji's entrance into this world was not as smooth. As the child was being delivered the doctors noticed his umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. The team worked quickly to free the baby, watching his face turn a darker shade of purple with each missed breath. After what seemed like hours, but was truly only minutes, the boy let of a scream. His mother cried and smiled as the child was placed in her arms.
"My boy..." She cooed in the his ear as she clutched on tight. The doctors made their way to her side and lowered their masks.
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this ma'am..." The doctor said softly. "But it appears the boy's legs are... unusable. We'll continue to run tests..." The mother looked to her sons little legs and held them in her hand squeezing and shaking them ever so gently. They didn't move. The woman nuzzled her face into her boy listening to his tiny breaths. As long as he is alive... She thought to herself.
"You're going to be just fine... my little Koji."
As the years went on Koji grew up believing that he would never walk. The boy never moved past crawling and was moved to a wheelchair when he was a very young age. He was never too upset with his situation, afterall the boy had never really known anything else. But after reaching the age of 5 a change happened in Koji.
It was partly due to his brother Koichi. He had been talking about enrolling in the Academy and was now a student. Koji would watch his brother return home eager to tell his parents of his newly learned techniques and skills. His father would be ecstatic of his boy following in his steps and his mother would congratulate him with a hug. Koji would smile and enjoy his brothers stories, but slowly it began to eat him away. Why was Koji stuck in this contraption?
This question remained stuck in Koji's head for days until one night he had a dream that he couldn't shake. Koji could remember it perfectly. He could see himself wearing the Sunagakure headband on his head, around his torso was the chunnin vest. He remembers looking to his left to see his parents and then to his right to see his brother. They were all smiling. Then the boy looked to his feet. He was standing. It felt so real. When Koji woke from the dream he had a new ambition. He would walk, and he would make that dream come true.
From then on every spare bit of Koji's free time was spent trying to stand and walk on his feet. He would lock himself in his room and push himself out of his seat. Repeatedly the boy would smash into the ground, dirt rubbing into his skin and scrapes making themselves apparent. But never did Koji give up. After weeks of this the boy was quickly confronted by his parents. They noticed how dirty and bruised up the boy would be and immediately forbid him from trying this. He could after all truly hurt himself.
But this wouldn't stop Koji.
One night when Koji belived the room he shared with his brother to be alone he tried to stand up out of his wheelchair. The boy pushed up with his arms, which had gained a considerable amount of strength due to Koji's 'training', and attemped to push upwards. Just as he was about to push himself up the door flew open to reveal Koichi. Startled Koji misplaced his hand and fell forward onto his face with a thud.
"Damnit Koji!" Koichi yelled to his brother. "You shouldn't be doing this! We tell you repeatedly you are going to hurt yourself! You need to learn that you can't do that!" The older brother moved in to help his brother when he noticed the boy sobbing.
"I know that I'm meant for better than this Koichi!" The boy spouted in between incoherent sobbing. "I just know Koichi... I saw it in a dream... I should be able to walk!" Koichi stood silently and watched his brother. Tears began to form in his eyes as he bent down and picked his brother up, embracing him in a hug. "If you say you can walk... then I believe you." Koji looked to his brother who was grinning. "But, I don't think there's anything that says you have to do it alone." "But you need to train for the academy!" Koji blurted out. Koichi laughed and looked to his brother. " It can wait, I'm the best in the class anyways." He smiled a reassuring smile. "After all, that's what big brothers do right?" Koji could do nothing but sob, this time tears of joy.
The first month or so went as Koichi thought, with no progress. But around the two month mark Koichi notcied something remarkable. Koji's toes began to wiggle. At first it was hardly noticeable but soon Koji was able to shake his feet. Koichi could see maybe he was helping to motivate Koji. The two fed off of the bond and before long Koji was able to stand on his feet. Koichi would notice Koji's chakra build up as he trained to stand, it appeared th boy was already beginning to grasp controlling his chakra which may have been why they were seeing results so quickly. As the years went by and Koichi became a full fledged ninja Koji worked hard to walk and stand on his own two feet.
Now at the age of 10 Koji is able to walk, run and do most things just as everyone else does. He has a small though somewhat noticeable limp if you're looking directly at his legs, thus attributing to the boys shyness. He is ready to show his family that he was meant for more.
