[spoilername="History"]Kouhantei Kouyuu was born to a petty bourgeoisie family somewhere in Wind Country. His family name was noted for numerous scholarly discoveries and achievements, and the desire to continue the tradition shaped Kouyuu's early education. His mother saw to it that from a young age, he was taught a breadth of academic subjects, of which many were rather esoteric and holding little practical use for day-to-day life. It was during this time that he became a close friend and occasional classmate of Oishi Yogi. While he followed this track of life from birth, at some point as a young man, Kouyuu was apparently caught up in a sudden burst of patriotic spirit, and enlisted as a shinobi in Sunagakure. The more likely reason is that he wanted a sufficiently exciting intellectual outlet and thought that being a shinobi would serve nicely.

Transitioning from a leisurely civilian life into the rigorous and regimented martial lifestyle of a shinobi was initially awkward and difficult for Kouyuu, and in certain ways, remains to this day. There were however, certain pre-existing talents and traits that he was able to build upon as the basis for a relatively successful career. The first being his talent for marksmanship and archery, a skill which he had developed from an early-age hobby into his primary method of combat. His eyes' natural tendency for severe farsightedness further complimented this ability. His second set of talents were those he derived from his early academic and intellectual efforts. With a sharp mind, and a preternatural ability of observation, he was able to catch the faintest of details and piece them together as a pattern of evidence that would otherwise go unnoticed. These skills, along with an intellectual interest in the law and legal matters, formed the foundation for his earliest successful missions and endeavors as a shinobi; namely, criminal investigations of various types. His success in producing successful criminal prosecutions in difficult cases eventually caught the attention of the ANBU. While petty criminal cases were well below the purview of the ANBU's jurisdiction, they were however quite interested in acquiring someone who could assist in investigations and matters pertaining to dangerous criminal organizations, interrogations, as well as psychological profiling.[/spoilername][/col]

Watson is Kouyuu's faithful servant and boon companion. It is uncertain how the two met, or from whence Watson came, but they have been together for a number of years. Watson is incapable of speech, but his piercing, beedy little golden eyes convey fathomless wisdom. His stare is said to be able to make grown men cry. He's also quite an expert brewer of tea.

• Watson is referred to colloquially as a turkey. He is not really a turkey and only bears a passing resemblance to any real-world variety of turkey.
• He is actually part of a yet to be named species that is endemic to [REDACTED].
• His appearance is loosely based off the legends of the Fenghuang (凤凰), or Chinese phoenix.
• Watson is not a Contract Summon. Any resemblance in appearance or lore to Contract Summons or Contract Leaders is purely coincidental.
• Watson is a dependent Animal NPC, and follows all related site rules. He is very rarely seen without Kouyuu in the same topic, but may sometimes be used as Courier NPC.
