Miki was born during a period of relative peace, well as much as she can honestly remember, to a family of non-shinobi. She lived a simple life, but she didn't miss anything as her parents did their best to provide everything that she could ever want. It was an easy life up until her chakra manipulation abilities began surfacing, which is when things started suddenly changing. At first her father was reluctant to send his only daughter to the academy, but in the end he decided it was what was best for both her and the village. To Miki however it was a very interesting experience as it was different from anything she had ever done before. Every day was a challenge, but it also brought a certain satisfaction.
During those early days she really didn't stand out at all. Her abilities were bog standard, maybe even somewhat below average when it came to taijutsu techniques. There was one thing that did make her stand out from the rest, even if it wasn't exactly linked to her chakra manipulation abilities. For some unknown reason Miki was able to easily figure out what other people were feeling. Well at least that was the case around her peers. When it came to trained shinobi it was a much more difficult task. Some people weren't that hard to read, but others had an impenetrable wall around them, which completely blocked any and all emotion.
Maybe it was due to this that she utterly failed when it came to training to hide her own emotions. No matter how hard she tried it was completely impossible for her, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Why you ask? It is relatively simple - her emotions actively gave her power. This ability surfaced during her final year in the academy and has since then become one of the major aspects of her fighting style- the ability to influence the feelings of her opponents. It wasn't something that worked all of the time, but every once in a while she could stop her assailant in his tracks (I am talking about Charm Person. Stating that just in case).
Miki graduated from the academy with completely average grades all across the board and went into training to be a medical shinobi. She figured it was the best way to use her innate ability to sympathize with others in order to do something good. Again her abilities at the start were absolutely nothing special, but during the second half of her training she showed a rather strong knowledge and understanding of the toxicological aspects of medicine. When it came to any different type of toxin she was easily the person to go to and it was due to this that Miki ended up being promoted to a Medical Ninja.
It took her a total of seven years from entering the academy to becoming a medical ninja and at the time it really felt like an accomplishment. However there was still much more to learn. The next two years Miki spent on going through every book on toxins and poisons she could find as well as working at the hospital. Luckily for her the times she was called out on missions were relatively rare and mostly involved acting as a field medic more than anything else. Life was relatively simple once more.
Promptly after her nineteenth birthday Miki left the village on a journey to improve her knowledge as there wasn't much left in the library she had yet to study.
During that time she traveled from settlement to settlement, helping everyone she could and learning all sorts of different new approaches to medicine as a whole. During the six months of her journey she was also able to begin work on a new technique. In all honesty it was more of an accident than anything else, but the result was still the same.
