Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It had taken months of experimentation, fine-tuning and modification, but the fruits were finally beginning to be born. In his first few months of activity, he had to make do with hand-me-downs and ramshackle components. Puppets that would have made any experienced craftsman cry from disgust, but he had managed to make them work. Now, however, he had quality resources and tools at his disposal! Gone were the old archaic ways of restricting component integration due to overall functionality, and nigh was the era of adaptive design!

Ren raised his hand and gestured it into the air, twitching his fingers in subtle but purposeful motions. With almost no delay, the humanoid puppet seemed to leap from the ground, a kunai blade in its mechanical hand as he slashed, spun and kicked at the open air. Its second arm thrust forward and a volley of needles erupted from a small hole its palm, scattering into the air before disheartening into the distance. The area was not often traveled, and served as a testing grounds of sorts for weapon creation, so the likelihood that a few stray senbon woulds find a mark was minimal. Then, like it was flying, the puppet man floated in place, making odd motions that tested and pushed against its range of motions and controls, contorting at unseeing angles and positions. Its two arms slide in half and separated into four smaller and thinner ones that too contorted and shifted around unnaturally.

He could design small metal bars to serve as a skeletal structure for these cretaions that were thin, light and durable enough to separate what was once an arm of modest thickness to one as narrow as his finger, and yet was able to halt a blade and flex slightly without breaking. With enouhg of these, it simply became a test of how many separate pieces could be woven together to replace key sections. An arm could contain four of these at each joint, and could then split into four separately controllable micro-arms at a moment's notice just with a small bit of chakra and careful planning. It was not as strong or as durable as the fully formed cohesion, but between shinobi, the loser was usually the one who ran out of surprises the quickest.

Out in the blazing Sunan heat, the recently re-accommodated genin pulled a wheelbarrow of metal ingots without too much difficulty. Naoki had agreed to take care of this mainly because she'd been effectively skipping out on the regular training for years due to a lack of space, time, and frankly motivation, so she is now trying to get herself back into the swing of things. After heading to the hospital to ask about how best to approach her regular training regimen, she'd managed to work out a decent plan of action that involved the same exercises she went through for most of her time as a genin before washing up on the shores of the worst six years of her life. She didn't even remember her birthday anymore, and she told herself she really didn't care... But as she walked and remembered that she had forgotten those things she had taken for granted as a child, she quickened her pace to try and get this over with faster by reaching her destination: Ren's workshop thing.

She couldn't hear very much through the door, but she decided to knock on it. "Rensukeeee, I have some goodies for you! Open up!" she called, hoping the boy would hear her. While she waited, if at all, she would attempt to keep her mind off the regrets of not keeping up with her training as a result of her circumstances. It wasn't something she blamed herself for, but she was in the middle of scrambling to keep up with those others who were sure to have been training while she wasn't. Sure, she might've gotten some more practical training, but no amount of practical training beats regulated exercise and raw muscle buildup, at least in her opinion.

She thought of her figure. It wasn't nearly as impressive as it would've been had she been given weight training to supplement her usual workouts. Naoki had always admired the few people she'd seen with protruding muscles and overall imposing figures, but Shiina was insistent on keeping her figure lithe and thin as she was, so as to keep her strength under wraps. As a result, while the other female fighters had tight-fitting outfits and some even got armor, she was stuck with baggy clothes and little more than leather by way of armor. Mobility was nice of course, but she wanted to be the wall that stood between the challengers and the champ's title! I can do whatever I want now, she thought, but what's the point? I'm probably past the muscle-building phase or whatever... She sighed, and if Ren still hadn't come out by now, Naoki would knock again. "Rensuke! Open the door man, it's hot out!"

Days like today were the ones Shin disliked the most. His father manufactured puppets and their designs to be used by the Shinobi Forces of Sunagakure and frequently tested the betas and prototypes out in the testing grounds not to far off from the newly designed Sunan Residences. But because of this constant testing and redesigning the man often leaves things laying about where ever he played with his incomplete toys. Apparently he was testing a new mechanism to allow for instant reloading of some of the bulkier traps in his Proto V:3.7A offensive design. To be honest Shin couldn't distinguish the Proto V:3.7A from the Proto V:3.6D but apparently it was enough difference to be classified as a different build instead of an updated version. Shin's father's puppet all seemed to mirror a common theme, animals. For example Shin had to help structure the wings on the Alpha C:7 series to mimic that of a Sunagakuran Crow because apparently they moved to similar to that of a buzzards. Don't let me get Shin wrong, he loved his father and all of his creations but this tedious redesigning was exhausting especially when Shin had to run all of the errands.

A sigh would slip from the blonde's lips as he slowly made his way to the training grounds. His father said the part looked like a plate sized gear with a couple carmot fragments in the design, but with the sandy winds who knows if the Yamanaka would ever actually find it. Turning the corner to actually enter the area commonly used by shinobi to test out new weapons Shin was surprised to see another boy that looked to be about his age. What's more the boy was wielding a rather uniquely designed marionette that Shin had never sen before. Spacing about the reason he was actually out here the boy would raise a single hand to waive at the other child. "Yo."<i></i> Shin would call out to make his presence known. He was wearing clothes of his normal fashion, a white shirt with a black and yellow scarf tied around his neck. A pair of black shorts leg covers both had yellow trimming and covered the lower half of of his body. "Impressive model you have there. Didjya make it yourself?"<i></i> As he spoke the young student would walk closer to the puppet to get a better look, but he knew the true dangerous of such weapons so he didn't get too close.

Ren paused in his movements as he heard the front door to the practice arena thud with a loud knock, followed by the now all too familiar voice of the ex-deserter. "The front door to the practice arena is not locked." He loudly and bluntly called, his flat voice almost sounding condescending, despite any actual attempts to sound as such. He twitched his hand around and willed the pullet's arm to fold back into itself, reforming the sturdy four barred arm as its shell snapped close over it. Outside of the interesting modifications and quirks that Ren was testing, the puppet looked as plain as could be. It looked humanoid in form, perhaps even identical to Ren in size and form, but it lacked any decoration. Its head was blank and smooth with no distinguishable featured and its body was equally barred with no clothing, markings or color to give the puppet any style or flair.

An unfamiliar voice called from behind him: A male youth that Ren quickly presumed to be below the age of maturity, given the modulation of his voice. Showing no signs of alarm, Ren turned from the door that Naoki was hopefully making her way through. "Alternatively, you could have entered through the other open side passages, as this one did." His comment was little more than idle musing, but it sounded as if he was stating a fact more than trying to make a joke. In stark contrast to the puppet that floated in the air nearby, Ren's garb was outlandish and almost haphazard looking. It was the outfit that the boy had almost always worn, since he arrived in the village, but it looked like he was dressed by a blind person.

"Model?" Ren asked, looking to the boy, who didn't appear to be much, if any, younger than himself, if his body type and features were to be judged alone. "It does not possess an identification number, if that is what you are inquiring on. This is simply a working prototype that I have been making iterative design changes on. To answer your question, however, it is of my own creation. It is not in a completed state, but one day it perhaps may." He paused a moment, taking a glance towards Naoki before asking Shin, "you are familiar with the creation of puppets such as these, I take it?" It was purely a guess, but Ren was not adverse to making blind presumptions if the statistical possibility was significant enough to outweigh any failed presumptions.

As Naoki made her way inside, he took a moment to glance over towards her, appraising the cache of metal bars she had arrived with. "Is this a delivery from the former Kage? I will not be making use of such material at this location."

Becoming slightly annoyed at the tone of Ren's voice, she had to remind herself that he wasn't used to modulating it to sound friendly or accommodating in any way and pushed the door open. "Well my fucking bad, I didn't think this place was a public area. None too familiar with how it's laid out either, but I'll be sure to just barge in next time with no prior warning, as is customary for well-adjusted adults," she retorted, expression visibly deadpan but still staring Ren down with sightless eyes, voice dripping with sarcasm as she let off a series of finger-snaps to better grasp the surroundings. "He told me to just bring it to you and I've done that, so unless you have another errand for me, I'll be leaving."

She turned to face the other boy who entered before her and waved, but if she didn't catch his eye she didn't make an effort to do so after the fact. Naoki was used to being pretty awkward anyway and tries not to let it get to her whenever someone doesn't reciprocate a greeting.

[Yeah no probs :D I'll probably be leaving soon anyway, unless either of y'all wanted me to stand around trying to decipher puppetbabble]

"I only know a little bit, my dad make mass produced models for the Sunan Forces so I help him while he designs and redesigns his prototypes."<i></i> His widened a little bit as he looked over the mechanism. "She's beautiful by the way."<i></i> Taking a few steps back now the boy would return the friendly greeting of the woman that was snapping. "Hiya, the name's Shin."<i></i> His gaze would be shifted to the delivery as the boy spoke up. "From Sousuke? I just delivered flowers to him the other day. i think he has a secret admirer."<i></i> The boy would shrug. Though he was pretty intelligent for his age he was still a kid. He didn't really understand most social situations, hence the odd announcement about Sousuke's love life.

Turning his field of vision back onto the boy and his puppet he would ask. "So what are you wanting to improve on, seeing as this is a prototype and all?"<i></i> Shin was an odd child but if he say a chance to make a friend he would take it, as he didn't have very many of those.

Ren looked over towards the delivery girl, appearing visibly confused, "I was not aware that such was customary, the unannounced barging, but you have my appreciation for informing me." Naoki had not necessarily known Ren for too long, but given what she knew about him, it was entirely possible that we was giving legitimate thanks for the advice. "Also for the delivery as well. I will transport them to the corresponding location for future use. You appear out-of-sorts. Perhaps you should vacation for a few minutes at your preferred relaxation location." He let his gaze linger on her for a few moments before turning back to the fellow child.

"Yes, the stock models that I have seen strewn about. Simplified and comparatively ramshackle compared to individually crafted pieces. It perplexes me how one can make use of intricate tools without designing them one's self. I am sure a number of deaths or failures can be attributed to the haphazard use of mass-produced designs that were used by ill-prepared individuals." He paused for a moment, looking over towards Shin who likely had a less than enthusiastic reaction towards Ren's blunt comments. "That said the... designs were very functional. I am sure the decline of their usage in recent times has little to do with the design quality. It is more likely due to the complexity of using such a nuanced stratagem that requires much more careful consideration than swinging a sword or throwing a fireball might. In that regard, the simplified mass-produced designs likely actually helped keep a semblance of interest in the field alive by simplifying the craft down to its most mundane and straight-forward components." He would continue onward, but at this point more sensible and socially adept shinobi likely would be butting in...

Looking mildly confused for a quick second, her face straightened out into an understanding, wry smile and she walked over to pat Ren on the shoulder. "Don't worry about that, it was a joke. My bad. I'll need to teach you about sarcasm at some point... or get someone with a little more patience to do so instead, because..." She trailed off, shuddering at the thought of having to teach this one how to use something as delicate as sarcasm. "And another thing, vacations aren't minutes-long things. No one can relax in that short a time frame."

It was at this point that the new one, Shin, spoke up. "Ahh yeah, him. I still call him Sousuke-sama out of respect by the way, so if you're looking for said admirer, that person sure ain't me."

And then, the one in the stranger set of clothing, and the even stranger notions of what might be acceptable to say about one's father's livelihood, decided to go on and ramble about what he thought of the mass-produced puppetry. Holy shit, I knew he was dense, but this kid-- She jumped in between the two just as Ren began talking about how the line's popularity was due to their mundane simplicity, using a louder and more panicked tone to try and drown out the puppetboy's unintended jabs. "OKAY, that's enough puppet talk, I'm getting pretty bored, ahaha! S-so, uh, Shin, what'd you come out here for?"

Then she got a little closer to Shin so as to try and minimize the amount that Ren hears from her, "Sorry about that guy, he's not exactly socially..." she glanced back at the offending Ren, "Agreeable. When we met, he almost blew a whole gambling arena up on top of me due to a miscommunication. Well, kinda. He means well, he's just really fucking blunt about how he puts things." Stepping back to a less invasive distance, she stretched out her hand. "Samejima Naoki. Nice to meet you, and Mother Suna help you if you try to talk to him for more than 5 goddamn minutes." She ended with a good-natured grin, eyes wide open though they really had no use outside of being pretty at this point.

Shin would raise an eyebrow at the other boy in the room. He would listen as the puppet user in the room would begin rambling on about his crafted pieces were better than any mass-produced design. While this was true he clearly doesn't understand the use of mass producing a standard model. "Puppet Masters craft their own designs, this is true, but in order to get to the point of mastery in any form of the ninja arts you have to start some where. Taking the less complicated designs that's commonly used amongst students and genin and mastering those allows for the wielder to better understand the essential functions of the varying frames..."<i></i> The boy's voice paused for a second. He felt something odd about this child, or better yet he couldn't feel something. He would continue, "If someone claims to be an actual puppet user and they wield my father's design I know that their skills are still elementary at best."<i></i> The Yamanaka boy would look at the girl as she approached him.

Placing a hand on his hip and positioning his hand in a nonchalant way the boy would answer her. "My father was testing out his V:3.7A Offensive Model the other day and lost a gear of some kind in this general vicinity. The design mimics that of a scorpion so who knows where he had that thing crawling."<i></i> He let out a sigh. His father was brilliant and an idiot at the same time. Closing his eyes and shaking his head slightly he'd once again continue. "But so far I haven't had any luck."<i></i>

As the girl approached him the boy would respond to her statements. "Yeah I noticed, but there seems to be something off about him."<i></i> Being a Yamanaka the boy had a heightened sense and could feel the presence of life around him and could tell when someone was different. Kazuki-Sensei, the man called Fate, and even the ANBU Fuu all had this same vibe to them. Maybe there was something more to this child than he let on. Regardless Shin would extend his hand as well to formally meet the girl named Naoki.

Appearing quite perplexed about the sudden interruption, Ren kept his silence as the Naoki attempted to seclude Shin and herself momentarily away from Ren. He wasn't able to catch every word, but managed enough to gather what it was Naoki was suggesting. "For the record, I provided you a timetable and adhered strictly to it," he paused a moment before adding, "a timetable that I actually extended by five seconds to ensure you were outside of the kill zone for a blast of that magnitude." There certainly wasn't any misunderstanding between them as far as Ren was concerned, and he believed he went above and beyond to minimize the likelihood of serious trauma to the ex-missing shinobi.

The puppet that had been floating mid air, gently floating down to the ground, still upright but motionless as the strings kept it stable. "I do not believe I made any negative statements about your father's craft. Substandard production is a natural byproduct of mass production, and the pieces in question are more complex than melting iron into a cast for a kunai." He would not disagree that he was straight-forward, but he was not quite sure how that was a negative aspect. "If you felt any offence at my observations, you have my most sincere apologies." He bowed forward, his movement looking stiff and unnatural, in part because it was quick and extremely precise.

He righted himself and turned from the pair, surveying the mostly flat landscape. Sand layered upon first made up for most of the field with a mixture of sandstone and wooden targets both circular and torso shaped. "I did not observe a stray gear laying around. What would the size of this object be? If we are speaking of a item as large as my hand, we can sweep the area, but if it is smaller than an inch or two then it may be nearly impossible to sweep through the entire sandy ring in a time, effective manner. If it is heavy enough, I believe I have a means to quickly eliminate possible hiding locations, but if the object is too light, it would be a net-loss to attempt such." He continued to survey the area, which was roughly a hundred feet from center to edge.

"Also, to answer your question from before. I am simply attempting field-testing of new modifications. I am hoping that through trial and error, it is not as scientifically sound as I would hope, but I have found that inspiration is as, or perhaps more, effective than straight logical conclusions." He paused only for a brief moment as he switched topics, "It is also unsurprising that Sousuke would have individuals in the village who admire him. He is quite a proficient shinobi and he had led the village for a consecutive number of years. While I am sure there were detractors towards his reign, I observed no sizable population that would openly attest to such."

I'm not even gonna try and argue about that... True, she didn't clarify that he was to wait until he saw she was clear from any adverse effects of the blast, but she thought that would've been a given. It's a goddamn miracle she was able to react in time to dampen her hearing, and subsequently force the sound away from her (which had actually made the blast much more destructive, but in the other direction) so she didn't permanently lose it at that distance--Suna knows what she would've done if she lost that too. "Aw hell, a gear in this pigsty? Place is practically chock-full of 'em! Heeere, scorpy scorpy scorpy!" she yelled, practically enveloping the place in sound waves.

As they returned to her, she would be able to pick up on quite a bit of information. If the gear had been buried under something she likely wouldn't have been able to detect it, but if it hadn't Naoki would jog over to where she thought it was and retrieve it. Regardless of whether or not it was the correct piece of hardware, she picked up something she thought resembled a scorpion, and held it up to the boys. "This look about right?"

[Hrgh sorry for the late ._. Have had many exam things to deal with]

"In all honesty I'm not sure the size nor the design of the gear. He also told me that it could be in any of a numerous locations. He had that thing allover the village. This was simply my first of many spots to check."<i></i> The boy let out a sigh and shifted his weight once again. If the gear was here it was buried in the sand and practically impossible to find. "no real need to worry about it though. I'm sure the old man isn't expecting on me finding it and is probably already working on three or four different replacement designs."<i></i> The Yamanaka would look over to the other boy. "You would be amazed on the people who come in placing orders for people that they probably shouldn't."<i></i> The boy chuckled as he has probably witnessed a fair share of extramarital affairs. "Well if you are wanting to test it out wouldn't it make the most sense to use it in a more practical sense than just in a mere sampling of movement and motion?<i></i>

The boy looked over at the girl who went by Naoki. "How about it? Would you wanna help help'em out?"<i></i>
