The day Ronin was born it was a completely normal, sunny yet misty day in the mist village, but as soon as he was exposed to the outside world, his eyes white as snow, a powerful storm brewed. Many though the child was born blind, but his father and grandfather knew. After their first child, Ronin's brother Kouin, was born with no Santaru prowess their father and grandfather had accepted it, but when Ronin was born they were so excited. That excitement ended quite quickly.
Ronin was only a child when their grandfather died, he wasn't even old enough to be in the academy at the time, death wasn't a concept he understood at the time. Ronin's training begun quite early, it had to, his temper tantrums created storms, arguments would cause lightning to strike, tears would cause heavy rainfall. His emotions would cause the weather to change too abruptly, that would not be acceptable as a shinobi. His father would teach him how to control his more erratic emotions before teaching him how to control the weather at will. Once he was old enough he joined the academy in mist, he wasn't in complete control but as long as he concealed and didn't feel, they wouldn't know.
Ronin was not quite out of the academy when the warnings came, which would lead to Ronin and his older brother leaving Mist and wandering for years. During that time Kouin would aid Ronin in his training, already being jounin ranked by the end of Mist. Even while Ronin learned a lot from his brother he always felt that there was some disconnect between them, but he never spoke up, he always believed that his brother knew best. About three years of wandering Kouin, and by extension, Ronin joined the cloud village.
Ronin had already been too old to be considered an academy student, he was allowed to take the gennin exam a few weeks while being in the village. It was a straightforward test, testing his skills in all three ninja arts. He could have passed with flying colors but he had suddenly discovered a crippling fear of being in the limelight. He kept it simple, and showed that he could carry his own, but he was seemingly average with nothing special to him. Kouin knew this wasn't true and had definitely had a discussion with Ronin, who could know accurately explain his actions.
Within the time span of two years Ronin had slowly began to show more of his cunning and prowess. During this time Kouin had somehow became the ANBU sennin, and while that should have been a secret its not something he could hide from his brother. As Ronin showed more of his skill his brother told him to join the ANBU corps, and while it didn't seem like the division for him he wouldn't disobey his brother. At the age of 16 he joined the ANBU corps. in training, and just now turning 17 and moving up to a full fledged ANBU member.
It wasn't quite easy to obtain that trust from his brother, however. There was a bit of nepotism involved in his ANBU promotional trial, instead of being lead by any other ANBU it was a duo mission between him, and AiT at the time, and his brother, the ANBU sennin. The mission was simple, retrieving a kidnapped merchant.
At first Ronin though this was too simple and easy, he was being underestimated or his brother was playing favorites, both didn't sit well with him, he would never speak against his brother however. They took the job but there was no information on what the merchant was trading, only it was of vital importance and they only had two days to retrieve him, kill all the bandits, yet leave no trace. That was all the information was given. Ronin was suspicious but continued to keep quiet, it wasn't his job to question.
They began tracking the bandits early the next morning, the trader had a specified route and it was quite obvious where they deviated from that path. The bandits, however, were strangely able to hide their tracks pretty well, but there was an odd smell. Neither Kouin nor Ronin were familiar with this smell. They followed this scent to a strange village. This village had definitely seen better days, the people looked malnourished and angry. The brothers stayed outside the village for several hours, circling the perimeter, hoping to catch that scent.
Early in the morning, long before dawn, Ronin heard a carriage leave the town while he was on watch. He quickly shook his brother awake and asked what they should do. Kouin merely shrugged and told him that its his exam, he leads. Normally it would be good to catch them when they're most vulnerable, but they were still near the village and witnesses would need to be eliminated, Ronin didn't believe in unnecessary deaths. It didn't matter, they found their target and still had one full day to apprehend them.
The brothers followed them, watching their break patterns and mannerisms. It was at this point that the two witnessed how they covered their tracks, they moved quickly and quietly, almost as if they had some shinobi training. After Ronin had felt they were far enough from any watching eyes he began his plan. His eyes clouded over, green irises turning white. Dark storm clouds formed above, quickly and quite obviously unnaturally. It had been a while since Kouin had seen Ronin utilize his gift from their clan, Ronin had stopped using it when it brought too much attention to him.
Ronin kept it simply, strong wind and rain, no lightning as that would be too flashy. The rain made the roads muddy and difficult for their horses to travel, and the wind made it difficult to navigate. As the roads became rough a barrel fell out the carriage and cracked open, releasing its contents. The brothers stopped for a second to analyze. Black powder, though it was becoming mud-like due to the rain. Ronin had heard of this before, gunpowder. It was new, not really utilized in any villages but it was said to be powerful. The two took off to catch up with the carriage.
They were nearing a bridge, crossing it would make being hidden difficult to Ronin decided to destroy it, making it look like lighting had struck it. Using the same power he used to create the storm he called down a powerful bolt of lightning directly in the middle. The carried slid to a halt, almost toppling over the edge. Several bandits exited the carriage, looking at their surroundings, planning their next move.
Ronin knew there were several bridges across so he took this opportunity to eliminate them. Quickly going through handseals he summoned several guided storm beams to strike three of the bandits that had exited the carriage. Caught unaware the lighting had turned them all to dust, that either blew away in the wind or turned into mud. He, however, had not removed all the aggressors, who were now aware that they were under attack. They took the carriage and made haste to get away, unfortunately making it harder to get in and keep the merchant unharmed.
As the brothers followed the carriage they could inside the back, the merchant was tied up and gagged, two more bandits and another one driving the carriage. The two bandits took out long weapons that Ronin was unfamiliar with, They began pulling triggers and with a loud bang several projectiles went flying past them.
The brothers hid within the tree line, obscuring vision from both parties, but it didn't bother Ronin. Creating a bow out of lightning allowed him to fight at a distance. Pulling the bow string back he created a thin blue arrow and locked onto one of the bandits. His arrow flew and followed the man, almost as if it was destined to hit. He quickly notched another arrow and released, finishing off the second bandit. The driver continued driving toward another bridge, but it was too late and Kouin had caught up to the carriage and grabbed the merchant.
The driver continued driving, not knowing that they had already failed. This time Ronin let him make it part way across the bridge before calling down another bolt of lightning, this time on top of the carriage. What he didn't expect was the carriage to explode, the combination from the lightning and gun powder. The bridge collapsed, looking like another natural phenomenon, the bandits were dealt with, the merchant was safe, and there was no witnesses. Mission Completed.
