Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The overcast of clouds hung over the village, unloading droplets of cold rain. Everyone seemed to have been prepared for this type or weather, all except for Shimamura Yosuke. He came to school in the same inattentive and half asleep manner, but something was different about him. It was obvious to Shizuka that he had something planned. As soon as he came in that morning, in his tired state he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and said, “You won’t believe what I have planned for later Shizu,” His eyes sparkled with excitement. But whenever she would ask him about it he would change the subject, yawn, or act like he was asleep. Sometimes actually falling asleep.

But when they were finally dismissed he jumped from his seat, rubbing the sleepiness from his eyes, and he was finally free. “Shizuka, be ready, I’ll be at your house in a few hours.” Ready to rush past his friend, he caught a glimpse of lightning from his peripheral vision and groaned. The boy forgot to take an umbrella to school, and now he had to run home under freezing cold rain. When he got home he waited until the rain cooled down to a light drizzle and prepared to meet up with his friends. Oushi probably had no clue he was going to get dragged into it either, Yosuke would’ve told him, but he wasn’t in the same class as the other two.

So when the clock struck six in the afternoon, and the sun was slowly falling over the horizon, Yosuke walked out of the front door letting his Uncle know he would be hanging out with Shizuka. His Uncle nodded, giving him more leeway after getting to know the ‘Senju Girl’ as he called her. First things first he’ll sneak to the Academy grounds and knock on the window to Oushi’s room, in the Academy Dormitory. He walked through the streets with his hands in his pockets, day dreaming the whole way there. But snapped back to reality when he reached the gates, running off to the side and climbing over the wall adjacent to the dormitories. He hid behind some bushes, until a group of teachers walked pass. When the coast was clear, he snuck out of the bushes, and rushed up the dorm wall. He peeked through windows, trying to find which belonged to the boy and luckily found him with ease in his room. He tapped at the window and waved.

“Oushi! It’s me,” He had a big cheesy smile and waited until he opened the window. When he did he barged in without permission. Dusting himself off, he took this time to inspect the room. “Huh, it surprisingly smells good in here. No offense,”

He plopped himself on his bed and laid back looking up at the ceiling, “How does it feel to live where they teach everyone? Must be real boring,” He puffed his cheeks out and looked at the purple haired boy. “Get ready! We’re gonna go training. Hurry up too, Shizuka is waiting for us.”

The weather had never really been that much of an issue for the quiet boy. Rain and sun were good for the fields, at least what fields were fertile enough for farming. The cold, not so much. All that mattered even less to him though, both weather and fields, his new life making sure of that as he had only just begun to get settled into it. There were still plenty of basics for him to learn about the shinobi life, but he would just have to get through them a bit at a time until he could feel a little more confident in his own abilities. That being said, Oushi found the lessons rather exhilarating to participate in and study, glad to be given a chance to learn and have a proper purpose. He was quite attentive at school for the most part, so long as he focused on the work at hand and not the presence of girls, making sure to keep a minimum of an arms reach away. That was the distracting part, his unfortunate reaction to the opposite sex.

He was already deemed as weird for this by a few of the other students, try as he might to explain it so that they might understand, it was already too late. It just wasn’t easy. Fortunately, there had been a couple of fellow students who did. One of them was even a girl no less! It took lots of patience, trials and not to mention errors, but he had gotten to the point of being able to be near Shizuka without bursting into a stuttering mess and wanting to distance himself from her by practically jumping back halfway across a room. Despite this, the gentle youth had made a friend in both her and Yosuke and for that he was grateful for small miracles. Even with the shenanigans he got pulled into.

That being said, when class was done for the day, the purple haired boy would not have been expecting the visitor he was going to be having at his window later that evening. His room in the academy dormitories was rather simple and plain but it was a comfort to him nonetheless, providing him a space for peace of mind. There was a desk to one side of the room for studying, a bed on the other and enough floor room for him to do a few simple exercises which he liked to do. It did him well to stay nimble in case he needed to make a strategic retreat from the female persuasion. All in all, it was a clean and tidy room, the walls barren save for a single poster with helpful information for studying and training.

Oushi had resigned himself to sitting at the desk, mildly eager to get in a little extra studying of what they had gone over in class that day, when he heard a tapping at his window. It alerted him at first, but the moment the boy’s caramel brown eyes noticed the head of pink hair and the big cheesy smile he let out a soft sigh. ‘Here we go.’

Opening the window to see what exactly Yosuke had wanted, he quickly found himself backing out of the way as the other boy shimmied through the space and into his room. His mouth opened in an attempt to protest, but found no words, hoping that Yosuke had the sense to not get caught. Noticing that his room was getting an inspection, the shy boy wondered perhaps if it was a little too much on the plain side. It wasn't like he had company all that often anyways. But no, he was met with a...compliment? On the other hand, it sounded like he expected him to keep a mess about his living quarters, giving it some horrid smell. Gently rubbing at the back of his head, the purple haired youth simply took it as it was. “Uhh, well thanks...I think?”

He gave a slow blink as friend promptly laid back on his head, looking up at his very bland ceiling and spouted a question. Shrugging, the boy placed a bookmark in the textbook he had been looking through and closed it shut for later. “I dunno. I find it gives me peace of mind. Better learning environment than at- eh? But-” Oushi’s gaze was quick to find Yosuke again, and he was even quicker to cut himself off in his own puzzlement. “We’re going? Going where to train?” He wasn’t about to just say no after the pink haired boy spent his time ‘sneaking’ into his room. That would have been rude. Ruder still if they made Shizuka wait too long. Making sure he had on his person whatever it was he needed in preparation, the boy gave a nod that he was ready to go along with whatever he had planned.

Yosuke donned the usual long sleeve shirt with the high collar and long black pants. His hands were wrapped in tape, per usual, and he walked anxiously or rather, excitedly while his friend gathered his supplies. Yosuke was a strange boy, usually being seen as the silent type that was often lost in a daydream to most people, but when he was with his only two friends he was unrecognizable to that person. He became this competitive, often happy boy, that supported his friends to no end. Even if Oushi was a new member, he just became another victim to Yosuke’s overt competitiveness and very different style of kindness.

"I hope you’ve been practicing those Jutsus Oushi,” He teased and patted his friend on the back, “You’re going to need it today. As for the training site, I can’t tell you! It’s a surprise.”

Yosuke kept this place secret from his friends for long enough. He hasn’t told Shizu about the place, even after the training with Shieo-Sensei, where he started to push his body to its very limit. Since then, he continued to use the training site in the woods away, every single day after school. He expected that Shizuka just thought he was lazy in school, which is why he always fell asleep, and he never felt the need to tell her where he really went. As for Oushi, being the ‘new guy’ in the group and all, he really didn’t feel like he deserved to know...yet. But the other day, he came upon a brilliant idea while resting after an intense training session. He felt lonely, and thought back to Miraku-Sensei and how he told them they could better their Ninjutsu through training. So, what better way to train then to train together? It was the perfect idea, or so he thought it was.

It was a bonus that Oushi was mostly new to the academy too, so training with Shizuka and Yosuke would help advance him faster than usual! His idea was flawless! He gave another toothy smile as he thought his plan over and over, wondering how he ever got this smart. Then when Oushi nodded he turned on his heels back to the window, “Let’s get going,” He opened up the window and looked back at Oushi and then at his room, “You should add some decorations by the way, smells good, but looks bland. I rate it a 6.5/10,” He teased, knowing that Oushi hadn’t yet seen the pigstine of a room Yosuke had. He didn’t even allow Shizuka in there, spending all their time in the parlor when she would come over.

He wall walked down the dormitory walls, expecting Oushi to know how to already, and led him over the wall’s of the gates and then back into the village grounds. He could now walk to Shizuka’s house, in his usual manner. He leaned back a bit, put both hands behind his head, and looked up at the sky. It was still slightly cloudy, and you could smell the rain droplets in the air, “I hope you’re liking it here Oushi, It’s good having another guy around.”

Suddenly his cheeks became tinted with a pink color, similar to his hair, “Not that Shizuka is bad and all...just sometimes it’s awkward doing things with a girl that’s usually done with boys.”

“Her house should be up this way, just have to take a right on the fork. She lives so close to the Academy,” They turned on the splitting paths and kept walking until he came to an abrupt stop. “Here it is!”

“You wait here, I’ll go get her,” Yosuke knocked on the door, being met by Shizuka’s mother. He gave her the innocent sweet talk, asking if it was okay for Shizuka to come over to his house to do some studying, he needed some help for the Genin-exam that was coming up pretty soon. He waited at the doorway as her mom went to get her, and when she came into view he waved with a cheesy smile.

He hasn’t told Shizuka exactly what they would be doing, so it wouldn’t surprise him if she was suspicious on the whole studying lie. But I mean, it was sort of like a half truth, right? “Hey Shizu, ya ready?”

He waited for an answer instead of walking away and expecting her to follow, which was uncharacteristic of him, but probably because her mother was still in earshot. Then when they got outside he led her over to Oushi, “Tadaa, we’re gonna go training!”

He waited for their replies, with hands on his hips, and his chest all puffed out. He was exuding confidence, still feeling proud for coming up with the idea. “Well, we’re going into the woods, and training for three whole hours! Our Ninjutsu needs work, and what better way to train then together. I mean, no one is gonna get in trouble unless we get caught right? C’mon, it’ll be fun, plus you guys are here already.” It was six in the afternoon, and if his idea went as planned they would finish by nine at night. His uncle became used to him never being around, thinking he was always with the Senju girl. So he was safe from any scolding.

He smirked, and then leaned towards them, “Plus, there’s this super secret training area of awesomeness in the woods, that none of you have seen before. It’s a once in a lifetime chance.” That was the trick up of his sleeve. Enticing them with promises of some cool training spot.

Of course it was his choice not to let her know what it was exactly that he was scheming, and she knew that he was planning something, but that didn’t help her curiosity at all. The only thing that saved him from a whack on his head was his tiredness. She could understand the need to sleep and the inability to keep open your eyes during one of those boring history classes. That’s why she had decided to make him pay later, once he would have the energy to handle her vengeance.

With enough time to plan his punishment, she was enjoying a cup of tea while trying to sketch one of the more remarkable trees in her garden - the terrace’s roof protected her from the pouring rain, when her mother came with the news of ‘friends at the door’. Once the word “studying” had passed her lips, Shizuka had to keep her facial expression smooth and somewhat annoyed - otherwise her mother would know that there would probably be very little studying, not that she didn’t already. Shizuka had always preferred to do her homework alone. Perhaps it was the lack of siblings that had her prefer silence when working, she wasn’t sure, but studying in the library had never brought anything to fruition. Regardless of that, her mother didn’t try to stop her from going outside.

“Be back before dark,” was the warning she got on her way to the door where she found both Yosuke and Oushi. The taller guy frequently looked like here was in some sort of pain, but she had grown both accustomed and fond of him. “Hey, you two.” The door fell closed, she raised a skeptical eyebrow.

“Study? Really?”

Shaking her head in disbelief she quickly hid her hair under the soft hoody of her jacket. By then the real reason of them standing at her door was out. Training. The tip of her nose twisted a little in response to that. The idea of running through the wet forest and get all muddy didn’t appeal to her that much. All of a sudden books and the comfort of a dry home -even if for studying- seemed quite interesting. Not that there was any stopping Yosuke once he got that like.

“You do realize that everything is..” she vaguely gestured with her hands towards their surroundings. “wet.” Oushi seemed to know that, but Yosuke had them with the ‘super secret’-part.

“It better be awesome.”

Her jade colored eyes told him everything he had to know. Then she offered Oushi a smile. Threatening him hadn’t become a habit, yet.

“O-Of course I’ve been practicing.” Oushi protested, feeling the pink haired boy pat him on the back. His expression gave way to a subtle pout, wondering just what sort of training they would be doing. Though he more so wondered about the surprise. Just what was so great about this super secret training spot that he couldn’t just say it out right? Well, he’d have to let it slide this time, as they would have to get going if they didn’t want to keep Shizuka waiting. All would probably be revealed once the trio had met up. Yosuke had headed for the window first, but paused a moment to look back at the purple haired boy’s room, giving it a final judgement.

“Eh, a 6.5? That’s almost kind for how bare I suppose it is, haha! I’ll see what I can do about sprucing it up.” The boy let out a soft chuckle, not wanting to be too loud in case someone got curious and knocked on his door. He was a quiet sort, so anything out of the normal would seem odd...not that anybody really checked on him otherwise. Interior decorating would have to wait for another time though. Yosuke was the first out of the window, walking down the wall and making it look almost easy. Oushi still wasn’t all that confident in his chakra control, but he gave it a half try, doing a mixture of scaling the wall like a rock climber while using his chakra to secure his grip as best he could. If he tried to do it like Yosuke, he figured that he’d just end up flat on his face. As the purple haired boy was last out the window, he had been sure to keep it open a little for his return. If he was sneaking out, he might as well sneak back in.

The same deal was had with the gates, getting over them in his own way. When they were both on the other side, Oushi gave his hands a dusting off on the thighs of his pants. They were now free to make their way to Shizuka’s house, that much closer to seeing just what this secret training spot was all about. The young boy walked alongside his friend, casually stowing his hands away in the pockets of his vest jacket. His caramel gaze trailed from the pink haired boy to around the path they walked and finally the cloudy sky. He sniffed the air, finding the smell of rain pleasant and earthy. A gentle smile rested on his features, glad that Yosuke came to get him. The smile was quick to turn into a grin with a nod of his head, his untamable cowlick bobbing. “Yeah, I liking it here a lot. I think I understand what you mean, though maybe for another reason. If I had to be surrounded by nothing but girls, I don’t think I could manage. As little as I’ve gotten used to being in the presence of Shizuka, it makes it easier for me with another guy around. Evens it out, I guess?”

It was interesting to know that their female friend didn’t live all that far from the academy itself. He supposed it must of have it easy to get to class on time, or perhaps more likely to try and sleep in more. Either way, it seemed she had a pleasant walk to school during the day, a nice stretch of the legs. In some ways, he would have rathered that instead of having to live in the dormitory. He couldn’t help but wonder what it felt like to actually be born into a shinobi family, instead of his own parents having been paid off for him to sent away. Oushi shook the thought as they arrived at Shizuka’s house, wanting to stay alert. He didn’t want any surprises of the female variety, so stood off to the side a bit till Yosuke retrieved the girl from her house under the guise of ‘studying’. When the trio was finally complete, the purple haired boy raised a hand in a small, shy wave. While he had only gotten used to Shizuka a little, the boy still had a ways to go, but something like that couldn’t hurt, right?

It was revealed that they would be heading into the woods to train, for a whole three hours. Again, the secret spot was...still secret, but would be shown to them in due time. It must be pretty fantastic if he was holding out for so long to say what exactly was so special about it! He was getting a little excited to see what it was all about finally. Though he understood Shizuka’s point of everything being wet, Oushi was alright with it. Sure, they’d probably get a little dirty, but that just meant they put the extra work into it. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal. Now that the three was of them were assembled, all that needed to be done was follow Yosuke to their super secret destination. The excitement was starting to build up in him though, so when Oushi nodded in agreement with Shizuka, his caramel brown eyes sparkled with expectancy.

“Stop being such a big baby! Live a little,” He crossed his arms across his chest, and stuck his tongue at her in a pouty expression. He then turned on his heels and started leading them on the path towards the woods. Rather than going the normal route, he took them through shortcuts like the alleyways in between houses, climbed over fences leading into the backyards of homes, and showed them the uniqueness in how he gets around the village. He would usually run through the rooftops, but he didn’t want to take the risk with Oushi who might not be so used to it.

He didn’t say a single word to them the entire way there, letting their curiosity build up. Even when they entered the woods all he seemed to utter was, “Almost there.” He ran them through the forest, where everything was strangely tranquil and terrifying at the same time. There were the sounds of crunching foliage, and hooting owls, watching with bulbous eyes from the top of branches. Curious crickets chirped, and the flashing of fireflies danced in the air. After being around the forest for so long, Yosuke grew accustomed to the sounds of the night when he would walk home. It drowned away his fatigue from the night’s training and filled him with a sense of repose.

Finally he turned around, “We’re really close! Get ready for this.” He was smiling and you could see his face in the dim moonlight flashing down between the leaves of all the trees. He walked in through a small space in between two bushes and on the other side was a small open field. The field was surrounded by dozens of trees, some were marked with X marks, many singed and black like they were burned. The floor was scorched, and there were three dummies made out of log in the middle of the open field. The rain began to fall again, not nearly as hard as it did earlier that morning. It pitter pattered against the trees and Yosuke stood in the middle of the field by the dummies.

“Welcome to the super secret training area of awesomeness,” He thought about the name and scratched the back of his head, with an awkward chuckle, “I’m still working on the name. But this is my personal training area!”

He stood proudly with arms crossed on his chest, “This is the reason why I’m usually exhausted at school, and why I don’t really hang out with you guys much afterschool-I’m usually here.” He awkwardly scratched an itch on his neck, “But if I’m being honest, after Shieo’s training, Miraku’s showcase, the tournament, and seeing all these strong fighters. I got really lonely, and well. I never truly fought someone myself…”

He clasped his hands together with an energetic smile, “So, today, after some basic training, we’ll be holding a tournament! Ehr-well...some friendly sparring. You two will go toe-to-toe, then the winner fights the King of the super secret training area of awesomeness!”

Perhaps with a bit more time she would grow used to how big the contrast between the two guys she hung out with was. One was silent, around but seemingly slightly absent, pulled into himself. Oushi reminded her a bit of a shadow. On the other side there was Yosuke whose energy overflowed whenever he set his mind on something, and just because the other half of the time. That’s why she had been slightly surprised by his quiet behavior lately. Not that you would hear her complain about it. Shizuka had figured that if something had been bothering her pink haired friend, then he would tell her in time. Today appeared to be that moment. Suddenly all of the pieces fell into place. He had been training, hard. That explained it.

Looking over the place she was quite impressed. There was barely a spot that hadn’t been touched by fire. The trunks wore other signs of abuse like cuts. She was quite impressed. For all she had done was mess around a bit here and there, and look into their family’s legacy. Dad had helped there, taught her how to slowly heal some of her injuries. But none of her training had left such extreme marks on the surroundings. Especially not the chakra binding.

“Thanks for sharing this spot with us,” she grinned, appreciating the gesture. “But yeah, you’ll really have to work on a better name for it than that.” Teasing now she found herself chuckling lightly. Her eyes then drifted from Yosuke’s excited form to Oushi.

She could still remember running into him. His muscular frame (in her eyes) might form a problem should she have to deal with it. Taijutsu wasn’t her strongest side, and she would need to keep a distance between them should he prefer to go hand-to-hand.

“Alright! Let’s do this then.”

Knowing that there was no way around getting dirty she took off her jacket, figuring that at least she would have something warm to put on later, after the fight. Especially if she would have to watch Oushi and Yosuke have a go at each other. Sweating, then cooling off, nahh, she didn’t feel like getting sick.

“Hold this for me, thanks.” She practically pushed her jacket into Yosuke’s arms, not wanting it to get dirty and wet. Now Oushi would know that he hadn’t been a victim of hers during the boat trip - not really. Shizuka sometimes had the tendency to be somewhat demanding of those around her, in her own ways of course.

“We count to three?” Or were they going to do it the sneaky way?

**

The trek through backyards had been an interesting one. The quiet boy had wondered if this was Yosuke’s usual route to this super secret training area, if so, it seemed a little unusual. Though, maybe he was taking into account their different experience levels. Oushi was still much fresher comparatively than the other two after all. He would just have to try and catch up as best he could skill wise. Till then, this was just how it was going to be. After they made it into the forest, the purple hair boy felt it...relaxing. The natural sounds of the atmosphere and the cool, damp air. He could smell the earthy tones that were dredged up from their running. This was familiar to him.

Every so often he could hear the reassurance of his pink haired friend, letting them know that they were indeed almost there. Oushi simply nodded, feeling the bound oxen tail of purple hair thump against his shoulder. His concealed excitement was starting to bubble over, a small smile creasing his lips. Soon, the secret would be revealed. It wasn’t long at all since the last ‘Almost there’. Yosuke had turned around, and told them to get ready, his smile visible by the moonlight. It was time. He let Shizuka follow after their pink haired friend before him, still keeping a little distance. It was also polite to let girls go first. He was taught that much at least, not to mention it helped him with his problem if he didn’t have to worry about a girl coming up behind him.

Following them both afterwards through the bushes, he found he wasn’t disappointed. It was a small open field, and it looked like it had seen its use of training. There were burn marks from what he could assume being from fire jutsu, not to mention there were three wooden dummies, which were excellent for practice. An almost joyous grin spread across his features. His normally docile looking eyes excitedly looked from tree to scorched earth to training dummy, the boy’s body turning with his gaze. As one who liked to physically keep himself busy, this was a wonder. Quick like, he turned on Yosuke. “This is wonderful!”

This was about the most excited the two would ever see him, to record. He didn’t even mind the name, really. Oushi was plenty ready to delve into some training, but there seemed to be some additional plans in mind. Yes, they would be their basic training, but Yosuke was thinking of having a, albeit small, tournament. The first match would be Oushi versus Shizuka, and then the winner would go against Yosuke. His excited expression wavered for a second, seeing as how he would be fighting his one female friend. It’s not that he was against it at all, but he would require some strong focus. He didn’t want to disrespect her will to fight after all. “Ah, um, alright.”

Giving himself a moment, Oushi took a deep breath and closed his eyes, pushing himself so that he could take this spar seriously. When he opened his eyes once more, he looked focused, though his mouth held a nervous twitch of a smile. Rolling up the sleeves of his black shirt up to his elbow, the wrappings on his hands more visible. “Okay, I’m ready when you are.”

Unsure of which direction to go she figured to at least give her friend some sort of warning in case he went with the whole ‘ladies first’ thing. While such an act was quite odd for a ninja, it wasn’t out of the question for Oushi. At least not in Shizuka’s opinion.

Her hands weaved the seals for her opening jutsu; a water type she hoped to turn into a wooden one in the upcoming weeks. Right now, though, it would be good, old, plain water. “Three!” she grinned widely, throwing the start sign at Oushi before following up with water style.

“Aqua Fang!”

Her words were barely out when two streams of water twirled towards their target. To her best ability she tried to have one come in first, and then the second one a little bit later from the other side, slowed down just enough to have her opponent confused by the first stream. It worked! To her surprise it actually got Oushi. Perhaps not in the exact spot she had wanted him to be, but enough for her to prepare herself for what might be coming next.

It didn’t take a long time for her friend to recover. The seals he performed were vaguely familiar but she wasn’t sure which jutsu to expect. That’s why the shifting in the ground took her somewhat off guard. Stumbling a bit to the side, she managed to get away from whatever Oushi was doing before her feet ended up being stuck in the ground. At least that’s what she expected would have happened should she have stayed in the same spot.

Continuing to fumble with the seals she knew that they hadn’t been perfect. Regardless of that, they worked. The bolt sizzled to life, dashing forward but slamming into one of the trees on Oushi’s side. Apparently two jutsu hitting home after each other was wishful thinking. That, however, didn’t mean that she wouldn’t try again soon. For now though, it was time to dodge.

Thud, poor tree. The stone bullet had come way too close to her face. She didn’t like that one bit. Splinters of the injured tree were scattered across the forest soil. She stepped on them, narrowed her eyes, then let her hands meet to work on her next move. Hopefully it would come together the way she wanted it to.

It didn’t take long for Shizuka to set the tone for their spar. By the time she counted to three, her hands had already went through the motions of hand seals for a jutsu. Her wide grin notified the poor boy that he was in for rough start. The two streams of water struck their intended target, causing Oushi to flinch at the sharp sting of liquid.

This was not how he wanted to start, but it didn’t take him long at all to recover, shaking the water off his body. Oushi was a quiet boy, so yelling out his actions was not something he was ultimately used to. His first move would reflect that. With a subtle tap of his foot, he put his earth jutsu to work, trying to catch Shizuka’s balance off guard by shifting the dirt beneath her.

She was quick to see through it though, whether she knew what the move was or not. Once again, the girl was completing hand seals for another jutsu. Would it be another water type? No, the bright light of the bolt of lightning proving otherwise. Its first signs of crackling caught Oushi’s normally docile gaze and set him to jump out of the way, leaving a tree to be the storm bolt’s victim.

Upon his landing, his own hands came together to form hand seals of his own. As he quickly rose from his position, a stone from the ground jumped up with him. In a blitz of movement, the boy kicked the stone with a push of chakra, sending it flying in Shizuka direction. Though much like her storm bolt, the boy’s jutsu found a target elsewhere, connecting and shattering a bit of tree behind her.

He was only just getting started. Perhaps it was time to switch up his tactics a bit.

Expecting for him to shoot more stones toward her, Shizuka formed the seals necessary to create a mud clone. Whether or not he would see through her move was unknown, but she could try to misguide him in attacking the clone, that way she would get the time she needed to set up her second jutsu. Hopefully it would work, she thought as she slid to the side, eyes on her opponent in case of him trying to trip her with some sort of jutsu.

Quickly the mud rose from the forest floor, manifesting as her. She grinned, and so did the clone. They dashed towards the opposite side, but not before switching places. Crossing herself, she started to perform the next seals - clone doing the same. Only one would actually channel the chakra for the tendrils, but as long as Oushi couldn’t pinpoint which of them did, she had a chance of getting away with it.

When he lashed out toward the clone she had to put some effort into keeping her face from lighting up too much. Mud spread across the area and hit her friend in the process, this gave her the opportunity she needed to let her Wooden Tendrils jutsu rain free. Unfortunately only one of them was a solid hit, but still she felt quite happy with it. Though, her happiness didn’t last long. Oushi was already on the move, despite the mud he moved swiftly and would quickly form a danger if he came too close. Being bad at taijutsu was an understatement in Shizuka’s case, so she did what she could to dodge the incoming attack, she just fled to the side as fast as her feet would carry her.
They were still too close to her liking, if she was being honest.

“Oushi!”

In the time it took for him to decide his next actions, Shizuka was already ahead of him, making hand seals for a jutsu. To his surprise, there were now two of the girl, and for a moment the boy panicked slightly. More than one female opponent? Not exactly what he had bargained for, but he would have to take a chance! It was only in the heat of battle that he would even consider doing what he was about to do.

Oushi zoned in on the closest Shizuka to him and threw a punch at her before she could complete her hand seals, though came to instantly regret it. It was a mud clone! The mud Shizuka dispersed upon impact, sticking to him in order to slow down his movements. Not to mention he was about as dirty as he was probably gonna get. There would be no point in trying to keep it clean now. That was all fine and dandy, except the true Shizuka had completed her seals while he went and messed up her clone.

Wooden tendril after tendril came at the purple haired boy. Despite the mud weighing him down, he was able to put up his arms in time to help block some of the damage from the first hit, even slipping away out of the second strikes range. The third tendril managed to get him from the side he wasn’t expecting though, getting in a full hit. “Oof!”

He needed to get serious! Brushing the pain off as best he could, Oushi dashed for Shizuka, mud and all. Only in the heat of battle could he put aside his fear of girls and show her the respect he had for her, as future shinobi and kunoichi of the Cloud. The docile look to his caramel brown eyes was exchanged for one of determination, as he got close enough to her to throw a kick to her side. She was quick to react though, moving out of the way while she called his name.

He shot her a brief confused look, his eyebrow raised. His breathing was a little laboured from the extra weight of the mud stuck to his clothes. “W-What?”

He needed to stay on the offensive!

While he replied to her call her attempt to lure him closer failed. Either he had noticed the seals she was making to prepare her next jutsu, or he hadn’t planned to punch her another time. Maybe Oushi worried about it turning into another clone. Drowning in mud wouldn’t have appeared to appealing to Shizuka either. Hence the energy that she had gathered around her hand went to waste. A shame, really, but there was nothing to be done about it. Or.. wait, she grinned, realizing that there was a better way to use this chakra than to simply let it fade. While doing what she had in mind wouldn’t safe all of the energy, it may allow her to spend a little less, and that was always a good thing.

Unfortunately she was tripped before her Stormbolt was ready. Sliding to the side, she hit the ground with her right knee. This earth moving jutsu was a really annoying thing to deal with. The idea of fleeing into the nearby trees briefly tugged at her thoughts but she figured to shoot the bolt first. To her surprise it hit, probably because her friend had taken it upon himself to close the distance between them as she had been struggling with his trap.

His next attack left her unscratched. A moment of advantage gained by her height giving her the opportunity to dive beneath the incoming fist. She thought about trying to punch him, but realized it would be better to go with a bit more lightning. Her hand-to-hand was a mess while he appeared to be quite familiar with the fighting style. His motions were smooth, hers were only good for dodging.

“Electroshock,” she mumbled, fingers weaving through seals. As she snuck past him, Shizuka let her left hand touch his shirt. The short contact allowed her to release the chakra into the fabric. She hoped to strike him with it and catch him off guard long enough to gain some time to put distance between them. A thud, however, forced her to turn around.

“Oh, oh shit, Oushi!” Awkwardly sliding to a stop she turned to dash back to her fallen friend.

“Yosuke! Come here!” She yelled, while carefully tapping Oushi's cheek.

Should she..?

Shizuka squeezed his nose shut, then inhaled deeply.

Yosuke was watching from the branches above as his two friends fought down below. He watched in awe at both of their movements, Oushi was still slightly new to this whole being a ninja thing, but for someone who only knew the rudimentary skills he held his own against Shizuka. But Shizuka’s abilities truly wowed Yosuke. They’ve been working together for about the last three months, as teammates, as close friends, and as Yosuke’s very first friend in the last two-three years.

But he rarely got to see how strong she truly was getting. Her skills were advanced, even learning a clone jutsu that caught Yosuke’s attention. Throughout the entire fight though, he saw Shizuka in a new light. She was his friend, but up until now he never truly saw her as what she was. A girl, who was also a member of one of the most ancient clans that originated in Konohagakure. She had potential like no other and that challenge made his heart race with excitement. So above all else, she was competition. A competitor in the same race to become the strongest Ninja in all of the cloud. They were two of the many in the new generation, that could arguably be deemed as the strongest batch of upcoming Shinobi and Kunoichi to date.

There was no way he would let her win. He had a big goofy grin as he thought about the fight he would hold against her. Oushi did good, for someone he wasn’t around as they were he held his own and there was obviously potential to build upon. Surprisingly, to Yosuke, Oushi seemed really strong for having such a small body. He would have to ask what he does to get so sturdy, because if there was one thing Yosuke was missing was the muscle mass.

“Yosuke come here!”

He heard her calling and jumped down quickly running over to Shizuka who held his unconscious body. He realized what she was gonna attempt and a sudden sense of jealousy rushed over him. He paused then held his hand out, “Wait!” He put his ear against his chest and then looked at her. He wasn’t breathing, and if he was it was hard to hear the faint beating. “Looks like...we’ll have to do it.” He nodded slightly, a worried expression on his face.

Come on Oushi, wake up.
This training exercise could take a dark turn if he doesn’t.

For his first fight, this really wasn’t going as he hoped. It wasn’t like he was much of a fighter anyways, but maybe it was because he was so fresh at this, while Shizuka on the other hand had had a little more time to seep into her skills and techniques as a kunoichi. He shook his head, trying to keep a leveled head and calm thoughts. The last thing he needed was to lose his focus and get distracted by the fact that he was fighting Shizuka...who was a girl. His brow furrowed slightly as he witnessed her hands move to make more hand seals. They looked familiar, so he would have to do something about that.

Oushi’s focus renewed for now, the purple haired boy kept on the move so that he could try his luck again with shifting the ground beneath the girl’s feet. Subtly, his foot tapped the ground firmly as he took a step, causing the ground to shift into unsteady gravel. She hadn’t seemed to be expecting it, as Shizuka’s balance was overthrown, causing her to catch the ground with her knee. If he was going to try and get in closer and continue with the offensive, this was as good a time as any.

The determined youth dashed for her, his fist ready and prepared to get in a strike. He hadn’t noticed that in the midst of him throwing her off balance though, that he had managed to get off a number of seals once again. The repercussion was a stormbolt heading straight for him, landing a direct hit. Clenching his teeth through the pain, the boy did his best to keep up his pace, though it didn’t really show. He ended up stumbling forward through it as he approached her, his punch just flying by her as she ducked beneath it. She had other plans.

While Shizuka snuck past her, the next thing he felt was a course of electric energy making its way through the fabric of his clothes, connecting with his skin. It pulsed through him, an unpleasant feeling like nothing before he had ever experienced. Was this normal? Well, no, getting electrocuted like this wouldn’t be normal, he supposed...at least not to the average person. Being a ninja made things so...different. Before he knew it, Oushi found himself blacking out, his body hitting the ground with a thud. The pain had been too much for him.

Maybe it had been the short time that his body had been given to rest, laying on the cold ground, but the boy thought he could hear the faint sound of voices through the darkness. ‘Do...it? Do what?’ The thought echoed in his head, giving him rise to find out what exactly it meant. His body felt so heavy...why? What was this pressure on his nose? Oushi’s caramel brown eyes slowly flickered open, his eyelids still quite heavy.

His first view of the world as he woke, was the sight of Shizuka’s face, drawing in closer and closer. Time felt like it stood still, causing the panic to spread twice as fast throughout the young boy’s body, spreading from his mind. His heart beat threatened to pop out of his chest. With wide, fearful eyes, Oushi sprung to life as if he had just been shocked with electricity once again. He needed escape. The oxen tailed boy wildly struggled like a freshly caught fish, rolling out of Shizuka’s reach and backing up on the ground as fast as he could until his back hit a tree and he could no longer backup any further. “I’m f-fine! You don’t g-gotta do that!”

His voice cracked, quickly speaking so that it would reassure them that he was as he said. Though, they would be hard pressed to believe him after that display. His chest heaved with large heavy breathes, trying to calm himself down so that he might seem normal. It wasn’t, and he was aware of that.

As Yosuke demanded her to wait she did. Still unsure if what she had in mind would help Oushi at all she watched Yosuke press his ear against the unconscious guy’s chest. Half expecting him to have a solution to the matter she found herself slightly surprised when he told her to do it. So, without waiting any longer, she bowed toward the pale boy just to see his eyes snap open.

Shock, panic. His fear leaked from his eyes and seemed to seep into her skin. Every fiber in her body froze as she watched him struggle to get away from her as if she was some sort of venomous snake. The way he slid back, further and further away from her until his path was blocked by a tree trunk, well, it didn’t really look like he was okay in any way.

“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hit you so hard, like, I.. eh,” she stuttered, head slightly tilted into his directions while her palms showed disarmingly toward the sky. “Are you hurt?” The frown of confusion turned into one of pure worry.

Had the jutsu been too much?
Did he hate her now?
Did he find her so ugly that the idea of being touched by her freaked him out?

Shizuka dropped her hands. Letting them hang at her sides she calmly breathed in and out. Her eyes were soon averted to the ground. She wasn’t sure if she had to be upset, confused, or angry. Perhaps all of them. Yes, perhaps confused was what she already was.

Standing up awkwardly, she let out a quiet sigh before turning her attention to Yosuke. Maybe it was better for her to go home. This had been fun but Oushi’s reaction to her attempt to help had slightly hurt her and that was obvious in her green eyes. Unsure what to do or say now, she cleared her throat while looking toward the path they had come from. “Think I’ll just go now..” the Senju mumbled with a defeated voice.
