Harsh weather conditions, the elderly woman had told him. Freezing cold, she had told him. Right now, Yoshihisa hadn’t really experienced either as of yet, and by the looks of it he wouldn’t be any time soon. There was enough challenge however on his rather slow paced quest of finding the roots she had specifically asked for, as he had taken some of his steps the hard way in order to train himself as he went. And these harder steps weren’t all figurative speech. It had been mentioned earlier in one of his classes how one of the first steps of mastering chakra control was to climb trees, scale walls and even walk on water without as much as a sweat. Another step for him to overcome on his path to become a Shinobi, and one he was willing to fight for. So with already plenty of supplies gathered for the time being, he set on to solely focussing on his training.
Resting on his back after yet another failed attempt and following crash, Yoshihisa’s limbs were strained all over. He knew he probably kept Akeno-obasan waiting, but in the end he kept of trying, the thought in the back of his back telling him she would also get something out of it: After all, the most tasty roots were often the ones hardest to reach, right? But after what appeared to be hours and with the gathering clouds and cold wind threateningly rushing above him, it became clear that there wouldn’t be much longer before the upcoming storm made it impossible for him to keep going. With more effort than he would have liked to admit, Yoshihisa got back on his feet, just staring up at the heavens like there might be an answer there. But all there was was a faint rumbling and the first lightning strike roaring down from the sky. Perhaps it was better to keep a move on and just do as he was told to. They might have been slightly bruised by him falling down every so often, but at least the roots were still edible or edible to begin with.
As he walked below the ridge, Yoshihisa couldn’t help but hear the silent taunts of the roots he hadn’t managed to obtain. Being well aware of how incredibly foolish it might sound to others, all he could think of was giving it another try. It would also be the only chance of success he wanted to offer himself: Before even realizing it, the remaining roots were hurled down into the canyon below, giving him at least two worries in return. Not only would be fail now to clear the mission, but it would mean plunging to his death was going to be his most realistic course of fate if he didn’t master this technique. He decided in the end he didn’t care about it, as failing here and now would mean he most certainly would fail again elsewhere. The chakra building up in his feet was stable, despite these troubled thoughts. While it didn’t appear to be enough at first, the first quick steps left him a little wonky from the shift of position, but also the fact that he was now hanging upside down to look down at where he was standing moments before! It would only be a matter of time now before he would return to Iwagakure, hopefully with enough supplies stocked up to keep Akeno-obasan from being too angry at him. Without an doubt.
"Looks like I will be managing to live another day, huh..”
