Kaen allowed himself a reprieve of sorts from time to time. One can't honestly expect a shinobi to be going 110% all of the time, not even one as committed and powerful as the keeper of Homura's Flame, Ruin of the Sunagakurian Anbu, hybrid to the court of flame, everyone's favorite redhead, Kaen. But I suppose today isn't about Suna, the Ancients or even Kaen himself per say, no. Today's events would be something nobody could have predicted or even thought possible, but I suppose we ought to let things unfold and speak for themselves when the time is right. For now we can talk about the country of Tea.
While Kaen had not anticipated his mission would take him this far away from home, the journey wasn't exactly a bad one. The heat never bothered him anyway, but the arid, dry and just generally plain geography of Wind Country was... Well Lacking is a good word I suppose. While Tea on the other hand not only is leading the booming industry of trading, its lands are exceptionally more bountiful, rich and fertile, a pleasant change of scenery for any sane individual. One might even call this a small vacation, if you could look past the official orders and the tracking of a wanted criminal who's in possession of a wondrous artifact capable of leveling a small village, but who's keeping track anyways, am I right?
In the distance a small farm could be scene on the cusp of the green horizon, the river nearby turned the water wheel that was detached from the farm's main building. Moss clung easily to the sides of both foundations giving it a pleasant hue of colors to gaze upon. A single man could be seen tending to a pair of cows roaming in a nearby field, a pair of children giggling as the older looking boy chases his smaller sister around the the outside of the house. A grove of fruit bearing trees was just south of the farm, an open field of what appeared to be wheat growing on the northern section of his plot of land. A crudely graveled road ran between them from east to west and there sat Kaen atop a knoll type hill with a single tree at its summit. Kaen was seated at the base of the old and grand tree located at the center of the hill, the large leaves provided ample shade in this otherwise balmy, sunny day. A few clouds lingered in the sky, slowly crawling their way across the canvass of brilliant blue hues.
Kaen hadn't packed much of a meal, mostly just a few pieces of dehydrated strips of meat, some fruit from the grove of trees in the distance and a small sack filled with military grade ration pills. He intended to save those for last as they aren't particularly tasty. But he couldn't afford to be too picky as he wasn't quite ready to venture into the city, no sense in rushing in and scaring his prey away. Might as well take a load off, sitting at the base of this tree eating a small, quiet meal. There was a few travelers from time to time that crossed his path on the gravel road, but nobody seemed to notice or care that he was there. Kaen liked it here, people minded their own. He would linger a while longer as he snacked with what little time he could afford to spare.
