It was deep within the midnight hour. A cloud-filled atmosphere covered the quiet and ominous village setting. Tonight was one of those evenings where you felt an abnormal chill, and the sensation of fear triggered by sheer paranoia. You are certain something will go wrong, but have no idea why. Patrols made rounds: a measure created to make the villagers feel safe. No matter how safe the village was, there were always moments where a watchful eye was absent. Tonight the eye of justice sat closed, and the scum of society went unchecked.
A chill swept through the empty streets, and a doe-eyed waitress scurried down the block with her skirt flapping in the breeze. She was young and vulnerable, or so she seemed.
A Pass under the candle-lit streetlights revealed her full form. She closed a diner two blocks back, and must have been heading home. Her hair was silky auburn tresses tied into a bun, and her skin was creamy and soft. A clay-colored purse hung from her shoulder, and was like a t-bone steak to the filth that watched her pass from the shadows.
"I'm not out to get into any trouble, tonight" Jomei reassured himself as he placed a vigil eye upon her from the rooftops above. Forgoing punishment on his web supply, Jomei used his agility to keep close to the girl as a measure of his nightly routine. He had taken a liking to doing good when good seemed impossible, and was doing his own patrols after hours to have some extra fun. No one cared if a vigilante was abusing out-of-place villagers, and no one asked any questions. "No trouble... let's just keep the peace and get some practice."
Jomei expected the girl to run into trouble at some point, because that was just how things were in this part of town. But what Jomei didn't expect was the worst kind of scum to come knocking at the innocent girl's door. Even as he watched, Jomei did not see what was coming once the waitress disappeared in the blink of an eye. Instead, Jomei heard a scream so horrific and loud that his ear-drums nearly ruptured.
"Help!" The girl's call for aid became a beacon for Jomei as he readied himself to take action and blindly leapt off of his perch. He shot two webs and swung down onto the scene where he last saw her, only to find nothing but a trail from her resisting struggles. He'd have to act with a quickness, and with his best detective eye or else the girl would be gone for good.
