Hello my friends! I am seeking to rejoin Ninpocho after a very long absence. I was a Leaf Nin named Umishio the Polite Ninja, I would like to rebirth as a Mercenary so that I can eventually ICly join the newly announced Return of the Leaves. (Stone Council approval needed)
New Character Name: Shinobu the Runner
Preferred Username: Shinobu
New Village/Missing: Mercenary
New BL/CA: Steadfast
Main Branch/ANBU/Med-Nin: Main Branch
IC Rank: Shinobu was a Chuninn when he left Leaf
Character Age: 25
Gender: Male
Sex: Male
Character's Physical Description: Shinobu's features have always been described as plain, except for his nose, the big honker of a nose is almost unmistakable and definitely his most notable facial feature. His height was never very tall nor very short at five foot ten, he has never been very skinny nor very chubby at 198 pounds. His personal hygiene has been a bit lax as of late and can usually be seen with unwashed and unkempt hair, a full tangle of a beard and somewhat oily skin. He wears standard shinobi suit with no vest but a well organized equipment belt. On his back are two weapon sheaths containing a battle axe and a fuma shuriken. He does not display his Leaf Headband but does keep it wrapped around his ankle inside out as to not reveal his old city to anyone.
Character's Mental Description: Shinobu is a survivor, he doesn't care much about what people think of him as long as he gets out alive and relatively intact. The only exception to his apathy for others thoughts is attractive women, for whom he will go to only moderate lengths to impress, once they get too difficult to woo then he will run along to the next potential date. His mind is regularly filled with daydreams about potential lives he could have had if he hadn't become a shinobi, pondering often what it would be like to just be a simple farmer or a fierce sea captain. The daydreams aren't really deep seeded desires to be something else, he just normally finds the idea of things are much more entertaining than the actual reality of the life itself and uses that as a form of escapism. He enjoys being a shinobi and wouldn't give it up for anything, his only complaint is the constant threat of death and serious bodily harm. His favorite thing to waste time on is going to the movies, the cinema is a wondrous marvel to him and the idea of working on a film set does really excite him even though he thinks he is too ugly to actually be a movie star.
Character History: Born and raised in the Leaf Village Shinobu joined the Academy at age 12 and has been training as a shinobi ever since. He earned a reputation at the academy as 'The Runner' because on several occasions when faced with a loosing training battle Shinobu would run away, and just keep running for several hours after that, not wanting to deal with the boring criticisms of his fellow students. Despite his apparent cowardice Shinobu did moderately well in his training, and he attributes this to his self developed "Thoughtless" training methods. Shinobu's theory on training is to train hard but smart, if you don't need to focus too much mental energy on a particular training then you shouldn't. One of the methods to improve his toughness and constitution was to sleep with heavy rocks on his chest, thereby giving his lungs a constant workout while he slept. He also once attached a small motor to a stationary bike and strapped his legs to the pedals to cause a constant workout for his legs while he day dreamed about being a movie star.
The only association he really had at Konoha was a slightly older shinobi named Shirokouu (approval from Kakihara Shirokouu needed) and that relationship was based more off of annoyance than anything else, Shinobu always respected Shirokouu but really disliked the guys judgmental attitude of always standing up for the right thing no matter the danger, or staying determined even when the odds are against you. The one thing Shinobu really did like about Shirokouu was the fact that he never called him a coward, something most of the shinobi his age can not say.
Shinobu was the last of his class to reach the rank of Chuninn, not for lack of skill but for lack of really caring about the title. He was able to work low ranked mission and make decent enough money to day dream the time away in the city. He did find during those formative years that he actually served his teammates best as a training partner, Shinobu had an uncanny ability to shrug off damage and take heavy blows, this allowed the other shinobi to practice jutsus on him without much fear of serious injury. This was just fine with Shinobu as he just saw it as another form of "Thoughtless" training, he could just jump around mindlessly while his peers tried to hit him, all the while his body got hardened to the various types of damage being inflicted with no real effort from him.
Everything changed for Shinobu when the civil war in Konoha broke out, he was never one of those shinobi to be sentimental or even very enthusiastic about living in the village hidden in leaves, but he did enjoy his life there. The fighting was a surprise when it first broke out, Shinobu didn't follow the political mechanisms of the city in fact he would almost instantly start to day dream anytime someone began talking about them, but the war made him choose a side, so with his fellow shinobi he fought to try and maintain some semblance of the old life he lived. Once enough blood had been shed in front of his eyes Shinobu knew that the war was going to be lost, so he did the thing most likely to let him survive, he ran. He ran away from his friends, from his teachers, from his home. He ran that day for what seemed like several sunsets and sunrises and he never looked back. He told himself it was no big deal, that he could be happy living off of his skills as a mercenary shinobi, but lately a slight nagging has been pulling at him, a feeling of guilt slowly eating away at his spirit. He had so much practice being thoughtless that he was able to push the feelings down for a long time, but like all important things in life those thoughts eventually resurfaced. Now he lives as a lonely mercenary, trying to find companionship in the village girls he is able to woo and relaxing in the shade as often as possible but he has felt a shift in the world. He has been hearing rumors in taverns and bathhouses and has begun to realize that rebuilding some inkling of the past might be the only thing that will make him truly happy again. He isn't able to quite admit it to himself yet, but in his spirit that nagging feeling of guilt from abandoning Konoha is starting to tell him that he needs to turn around and start running the other direction.
