Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The room was fairly standard, but small. It was generally used for interviews and the like, and when it wasn't it was a quiet hideaway for various admin staff who needed a break. Today it'd be used for its main purpose.

Akira had sent a message to Junko. They needed to have a more formal discussion on the medical branch, Kitsune was no longer Sennin and would have made her announcement by now.

He had Junko's record sitting before him, it was impressive, but it was also clear that he hadn't had the chance to truly go through exams and the like to get to his current position. The issue for Akira is that it also seemed like he was ready for those exams, which meant that it came down to needing to hold them, which was decided wasn't needed. Or at least that's how he'd have to look at it despite Kitsune's words. Yes she was correct, he headed a group and thus needed to be a Chief, but that didn't mean that the boy wasn't ready to be in that position.

Still, Akira would need to speak to him, ask him questions, get from him what he could only hope to be the truth, and then compare that to the other candidates.

"A meeting?" Junko thought walking into the Torre. The previous sennin was no more and he recently finished his research. Managing to get a nap in before the meeting, Junko smirked as he stretched in front of the receptionist. "I'm here for a meeting." Junko said looking at the young lady.

"Tsuyoshi Junko right? You've been getting a lot of talk around here lately. Well, you're meeting is held in the conference area. First door to your right."

"Yeah, I've been busy. Thank you." Junko said with a nod. Moving to the conference area, Junko entered into the first room to the right. A rather ordinary conference room, but it was okay. It was time for business. "Good afternoon Raikage-sama." Junko said taking a seat.

Akira stood as Junko entered the room, nodding his head to the other.

"Good afternoon Junko. Please take a seat." he said gesturing to the seat on the other side of the table.

"Just to be clear, we're here today because we're looking for the new Sennin for the medical branch. You and others will be interviewed by me and I will make a decision based on what I believe is in the best interest for the branch. Whoever is chosen I don't want the other candidates to do anything other than support them in their leadership, to do otherwise is to doubt my decision, to doubt my leadership. Do I have your cooperation?"

He would wait for a yes to that question before continuing. If it was a no then the meeting would be instantly dismissed.

If a Yes was received then they would continue.

"Can you give me details on how you have shown your leadership as a member of the medical branch?" He would ask first, waiting for the reply so that he could delve further into the answer if required.

Do I have your cooperation?"

"Yes." Junko said with a nod, knowing that this would be an interesting meeting

"Can you give me details on how you have shown your leadership as a member of the medical branch?"

"Well, one of the biggest things I've been doing is teaching. Taking on several pupils, I've passed down knowledge and formed great bonds with them. Just like my sensei did with me. I see the kids more as family then anything. I've taught a few classes, really ensuring that the future of the medical branch and kumogakure will be taken care of no matter what. Rather I live or die." Junko said with a pause.

"Aside from that. As you know, we have had trouble at the gates. Arriving on the scene, I was the only medic during the battle with the Yakuza. I managed to prevent casualties as my brother, ANBU personnel, and several students caused them to retreat. I've been the only medical shinobi leading or doing kinjutsu surgeries and taking on psychological evaluations." Junko said looking up as he scratched his head. Thinking, the medical chief had been doing a lot and was quite active. Did he ever get a brake? If not, he needed one.

"Let's see, as head of the kinjutsu surgery division, and only Biologist master from my knowledge, I've been restoring the broken division that weakened the branch. Sadly, when the old harvesters left they took valuable information with them along. That was quite a lot of staff members, so imagine the slacked that had to be taken up." Junko said shaking his head. "On the plus side, I've recently made a breakthrough less then twenty-four hours ago after studying Kushins complex work. Believe it or not, I just set the grounds that recovered his work, and will improve his work to take things a step further. The information is quite important and I can't let things be lost again." Junko said smiling as he rubbed his eyes a bit. Despite his nap, he still lacked sleep. "People of the medical branch have literally watched me grow and be raised up to the guy I am today when I think about it. Even patients have seen my transformation. It's quite amazing when I think about it."

"As a medic. No, as a citizen and chief of kumogakure. I've made sure to keep facing anything that's come forth. No matter what. Rather if it was comforting the branch after losing our previous sennin, giving any information possible to find Justice or sprout peace. I've been quick to Speak for the people of the village and my branch." Junko said thinking about their previous meetings. "And... I'm sorry, I feel like I'm babbling." Junko said stopping. He was pretty sure the Raikage got the picture. Junko really wasn't the type to go on and on about himself. The fact that he just did was awkward. He'd rather let his actions speak louder then his words.

One thing was for sure, the young orphan boy with no home had surely grown. He earned the right to become a medical ninja after dealing with a traitor of the medical branch, but he didn't quite earn his chief title through an exam. Or did his hard work simply pay off? Studying, teaching, training, researching and working was Junkos regimen. Hell, he was often told by many that he works too much. He was actually doing more then kitsune, and she held the title of sennin. Filling the slot of sennin based on "circumstances", the most she did was monitor kinjutsu registration, attend regular sennin meetings, do the tiring paperwork, and defeat one or two young shinobi at the gates. Aside from that, she was seen as a traitor or coward by a handful in the branch.

Akira started taking notes. Only small ones and only to remind himself and make sure that he didn't miss anything.

The first point raised was a focus on the students.
Second was his willingness to get to a scene of violence to help prevent casualties.
Third about how he's currently the only shinobi performing Kinjutsu surgeries.
Fourth was his taking on psychological evaluations.

He then went back to the third point to explain more clearly what he did there. He's been working towards restoring the group which had been removed, Akira assumed this was the Harvester division, and was confirmed when he went on to mention their name. Akira nodded acknowledging the 'slack' that had needed to be picked up. A level of excitement entered his voice as he began to describe how he'd managed to study Kushin's work and take it a step further.

That was followed by an off the cuff remark about how he'd effectively grown up in the branch. Something Akira could appreciate as he'd experienced something similar with the ANBU many decades earlier. The rubbing of the eyes however told Akira that the young man in front of him was tired, so he excused the comment as it wasn't really on topic, or needed.

He then made his fifth point, it was to do with his efforts with getting information, giving that information to the right people and trying to find justice.

After this Akira spoke.

Don't worry, I understand that you've been busy and are tired. Being tired does tend to make one's mind wander. Yet with what you've told me I have to ask, would it be wise to raise you to Sennin at this stage? I know that Kushin was the head of the Harvester Division, but he managed to form it of a group who knew how to perform the tasks that were required, running it was little more to him than giving orders to his team and in addition to that he had the previous Sennin Kogan as a member to help as well. You are still in the stages of recreating it and this would take a lot of resources to achieve, a lot of time, which you would have less of if you were Sennin.

Letting the raikages words sink in, Junko nodded. "Personally, I believe I can handle it. My sensei always set up my schedule to be part time in mostly all the parts of the hospital. I've done work under the harvesters, sentou Henka, general surgery, you name it." Junko said reminiscing. "As far as time, I don't stress it much. If I wanted time to study, sleep, or just free time. I have a place I could go." Junko said referencing his reality void technique that the Raikage already experienced back when he was the ANBU sennin.

"I didn't have the privilege of being taught by kushin, but I was blessed to be taught by Daisuke-sensei. My sensei had much respect for the man. Looking into his work, I've gain respect for him myself. His research has help me improve my own skills. I'm sure I'll have help rejuvenating the branch they worked hard to create. In fact, since the time I've been made chief, I've been having many candidates looked at and analyzed to create a proper team for the division. Once things are set, I'll teach and pass on the information to them along with my pupils. Honestly, some of my pupils may be apart of the team. Anything new, I may publish like Kushin." Junko said with a pause. "Any information that wouldn't be wise to put out publicly, I'll store it. In the end, the division and branch will improve." Junko said nodding.

"Regardless if I'm sennin or not. It's my job and passion as Daisukes pupil, and a medical shinobi." Junko said smiling.

So he'd been unspecialised, probably only entering into a more specific area of training recently. This might have added to slowing his advancement, and yet at the same time given him a level of knowledge about how the whole branch. Something which would be valuable for a Sennin as it would give a level of understanding on how to run each sector of the branch.

It seemed to Akira, though perhaps Daisuke had planned to have Junko lead the branch, that perhaps his training had been incomplete.

Nodding as the other finished he made some notes and then continued.

Recently you helped aid me with information as you mentioned. You looked towards there being justice. What are your thoughts on my punishment for Kitsune?

"Well, I don't see it as much of a punishment. More of a slap on the wrist." Junko said bluntly. "I'm actually still trying to understand it, but I think I get it to some degree. The investigation isn't finish to my knowledge, and killing her could be a lot. Your image as the Raikage could be at stake, especially with the investigation still unfinished. Maybe, you're peaceful like shin-sama and would never resort to that." Junko said thinking of the possibilities scratching his head a bit.

"The ANBU sennin mentioned death. Jail could've been a option. After all, Shima Ai was pretty much placed in a mental jail. Umm, you could just be giving the future medical sennin a test or decision. To see if the individual trust your judgement and let kitsune remain. Or goes against your judgement and trust to remove kitsune from the branch." Junko said focusing a bit more. He was still tired, but always as sharp as a tack. "You could've just didn't want to remove her yourself and was leaving the decision to the medical sennin. Once again, kitsunes actions would be put to the test to see how she takes it. Hmmmmm. Sir, why did you choose that punishment? If you don't mind me asking." Junko said getting to the point after realizing he was babbling a bit again.

He knew that the decision would have probably troubled Junko, in part it was why he raised the issue, to see what the other thought. It seemed the decision didn't sit overly well with him in the end, he was speculating as to why the decision was what it was, but wasn't able to justify it in full. Asking about the reason behind Akira's decision.

Putting down the pen he looked at Junko.

Very well. I will explain myself because I feel that it's important for you to understand the things that you need to take into consideration when making decisions such as this one.

Kitsune is a clan leader of a clan which supplies the village with goods, in addition she has other family members, one of which is also a possible replacement. I had many options available to me, these included execution, imprisonment, having her citizenship revoked, the list goes on.

The Medical branch has several candidates, but the main ones are young with only a little shinobi experience, like yourself. By allowing her to continue to serve you think I'm being peaceful, but I'm enabling the replacement to be able to access her knowledge, she is able to continue to benefit the village this way and by doing so she is able to redeem herself.

What use is she to me or the village dead? What use is she to me or the village imprisoned?

From what I can tell she didn't stand aside maliciously, I don't sense that she is lying when she says that Daisuke told her to live and not fight. This doesn't make it right that she didn't fight, in that situation she should have, it was clearly her duty to do so.

You see it as how harsh is her punishment, I see it as what is the best thing for the village.

She betrayed two of my best friends, but the circumstances of her betrayal doesn't make me think that she couldn't redeem herself.

Do you see?

Listening to the Raikage, Junko seemed to wake up. His words made sense. The old hag wasn't a terrible person, Junko simply disliked her decision in a critical situation. As Saito finished, Junko nodded. "I understand Raikage-sama. I agree with your decision." Junko said with a smirk.

"Now, it all makes sense. Since my senseis death, a part of me couldn't wrap my head around her actions and it still doesn't. Looking at kitsune, her experience, and now her long history, it becomes even more puzzling." Junko said shaking his head. "Do I hate her? No. Would I trust her with my life? No, but she may very well redeem herself. Only time will tell." Junko said looking up.

"Ya know, the candidates may be young Raikage-sama, but if they're under watch by the A-Team. I'm sure they'll mature as leaders and gain plenty of experience." Junko said laughing a bit. His senseis death ordeal wasn't over, but Junko managed to keep an smile on his face through any pain. Just like Daisuke. Looking at the Raikage, Junko waited for his reply or next question.

Unfortunately the position isn't one which I want to feel the need to be teaching. The medical Sennin needs to be someone who can hold their own amongst the rest of us, I need them to lead the branch like Ayumu and Nobuyuki lead theirs.

I want you to describe to me what you believe your leadership style would be, how would you lead the medical branch?

It was both a very important question and at the same time something a little misleading. In the end Akira knew that what someone thought would be a good leadership style, how they see themselves and how they actually would act were two very different things.

Still he asked it, hoping to learn what it was that Junko thought of himself.

"Through Unity." Junko said thinking of Kahako. Smirking, he could still remember their last conversation. His eyes lowered slowly as his thoughts flowed. "Many have ruled through terror or softness. Fear isn't what I want. Overly kindness isn't either. I'd lead by bringing the branch close like family. As family, we can depend on one another, love one another, work to better each other, and risk our lives for our comrades. Junko said looking at the Raikage.

"I have the strength, courage, intellect, and much more to lead. Leading Is all useless if I'm not bettering the individual beside me though. If I'm not, I'm failing as a leader. So, as I become better, so will the branch. When the branch becomes better, so will the village. At the same time, every leadership faces problems. I'll deal with each problem without doubt and without hesitation. Quickly and effectively. My kindness will never be seen as a weakness." Junko said with a pause.

"I'm not just about the medical branch. Neither would my leadership just be about the medical branch. As the leader, The medical branch would better ties with the Anbu, main branch, and the citizens. Many would get a totally new perspective. Some see medics as weak and that would definitely change. Sitting back and healing all day? No, as a medic, you're a survivalist. If medics are injured theirs no more major healing. So, they'll all be trained to defend themselves and to fight just as good as any other shinobi in any branch or country. Plus, they'll still have their medical training." Junko said with the image of the future in his eyes. He could feel the change that would transpire.

"Only my actions can prove my words though. As an orphan, I created and formed my own family, but I started with only my brother. I started with nothing and now I'm leading my own division. As a Medical chief, I started with nothing, and now I'm in the process of gaining members. Being under daisuke gave me more then enough foundation for anything in my opinion. He's the reason why fear doesn't strike my heart and I can take on anything." Junko said speaking from the heart.

Akira nodded slowly and continued making notes. A family was one way to describe it, but it didn't quite sit well in Akira's head. He'd need to clarify things, but let Junko continue, hoping that perhaps the answers to his questions would be answered by the other through everything else he had to say.

I'm not sure if people view the medical branch as weak. When I was a trainee we had an interbranch tournament, ANBU and Mednin. It certainly wasn't as one sided as one might think a tournament like that would be. Akira had had the deciding match, and successfully defeated his opponent Hinote. But that it had come down to that match to decide the winner showed how strong the medical shinobi were.

This alongside the fact that at the time Karubin had been their Sennin. There was little doubt that he would have won should he have fought the ANBU Sennin at the time, so it could have been very different.

Either way, I have a question regarding your answer. You said you wanted to run the branch through unity, lead it as though it were a family. In a family scenario there are many issues which need to be dealt with. For example, what would you do if someone disregarded an order and did what they wanted? What if this ended up being a good thing? What if it ended up resulting in deaths of allies? Should they be dealt with differently or in the same way?

In a family scenario you relied on people listening to you, but often at certain ages Akira was aware that children would begin to misbehave. What Akira was assuming is that if Junko were to run the branch in this way then this could happen. The seeming set of rules in place there to be tested by others who might not be quite so obedient.

Thinking back, Junko didn't know too much about the event. When Saito was a trainee, Junko probably wasn't even thought of at the time. "I know only a small amount about that event. Since then Though, a new generation has emerged. With my times as a trainee, things were different. I had a shinobi deny me training, simply because he thought I was too weak. He thought of me as nothing more then a healer that would cower behind my comrades. He often made fun of the branch with sly remarks." Junko said shaking his. "It wasn't a big problem, but it let me know that we have people in our village with that ideology." Junko said with a nod.

Listening to the raikages question, his reasoning made sense. Sooner or later, a leader or family head would face decisions such as this. Wasting no time to answer, Junko replied. "If an individual disregarded an order and did what they wanted, it would all depend on the results. Say if it ends good, and betters the branch. The branch isn't the village, but only a part of the village. Their decision could have a negative fallback on the rest of the village. Then their "noble" deed is examined in a totally different way. If an order is ever disobeyed, the results would have to be better then my strategically calculated plan. That would be the only way I'd find it acceptable. " Junko said with a pause.

"We live in the shinobi world where things go bump in the night. Everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes a shinobi disobeying or calling a different shot is a good thing. If everything's set as the truth, then maybe kitsune and keiji disobeying the order or option to stand down would've been a good thing. Our comrades could've still been alive today. Sometimes, it's a tragedy. Keiji and kitsune could've been killed in action as well. As shinobi, we know, Comrades die." Junko said as the fire in his eyes began to ignite. The passion he felt seemed to oxygenate the medical Chiefs body. He definitely was no longer asleep. "Under my watch, if I feel like the actions taken were not in the best interest of not only the branch, but the village as well. The issue would have to be dealt with accordingly. I'd weigh the importance of the individual, their contributions, and so on. Killing isn't always the answer, the individual could serve as an asset and still be punished. For example, kitsune." Junko said letting that sink in.

"What ever decision is made or punishment I decide, I'd ensure that the individual would learn from their mistake. If force is necessary, I'd ensure to humble my fellow shinobi like id do a younger brother. If death was ever necessary, I'd kill out of love of my fellow comrade and the protection of my villages future. So, in the end, my will is to protect the people, shinobi, and children of kumogakure. Anyone opposing that, be they a friend, sibling, or my own children, will feel my wrath. For the sake of the village. If the result is fear, so be it, but that's not my wish."

Looking at Saito now, things were different. The first time he met eyes with the man, Junkos eyes filled with darkness. On that same day, he reinstalled the light within Junkos eyes with an important letter. Training was Junkos forte, he spent years inside his void doing so. He grew physically and mentally. He was a twenty five year old man, with one of the most intense drives in the village and he was still growing. "If you don't mind me asking, what's your thoughts on me leading the medical branch? Also, what's your thoughts of me as a shinobi and individual?" Junko asked curiously. For the chief to be in this meeting, he had to see something in Junko.

Going back to the point you mentioned about Keiji and Kitsune. If they had disobeyed there is a chance that your sensei and my friends could have been saved. But if they had been killed as well then perhaps we wouldn't have been able to unearth the issue. The logical way to cover up the slaughter would have been to disintegrate the bodies, we would have had nothing to prove who performed the murders, the council wouldn't have had anything to cover up, perhaps Haruka would have remained in her position of Raikage as she knew that the chances of anyone uncovering the truth were next to none, and with no-one to act as a witness against her. So perhaps, using your own point about Keiji and Kitsune, their standing down and saving their own lives has enabled us to uncover the truth and thus act.

Akira said this after Junko had finished talking. There were points that Junko had spoken of which raised some concerns with Akira. Junko asked Akira of his thoughts on Junko as an individual, as a shinobi, and in his ability to lead the branch.

Akira decided to answer with the following.

As to your question. I believe that you are already a leader of the medical branch. Your records show that you deserve the rank you currently have, and perhaps should have received an exam earlier, however this wasn't the case. Certainly the length of time you have spent as a Medical Chief counts against you. You have strong ambition, and I would say that as long as you continue working the way you do that you will one day become the Sennin of the branch, the position often results in burnout which is why the high turnover. This isn't to say that you may not become the Sennin during this process but I do have my concerns.

At this stage of the process I believe that you would make a better second to Kahako, though I haven't interviewed her yet, I believe that the pair of you would run a very strong medical branch.

My thoughts on you as a person are different again. I think you are very loyal to the village, I think you're a hard worker, and I think you're the type of shinobi that the village needs among its leadership. I think that you need some time to grow as a leader and mature into yourself however. You're brash, outspoken and treat all people as equals, this is a good thing, but with some people it could rub them the wrong way. Your act against me a few months ago for example shows that at times you take perhaps the wrong route. If I had been Shinbatsu you would have died that day, if I had been Shin I'd have forgotten it already, but I am Akira, and though I understand what you were trying to do I also believe there was a better way.

I feel that if I named you Sennin this time around that though you would be doing your best, and meaning well with your actions, that there would be times when you would do something, which with a bit more thought about how others might perceive things, or about whether there was an alternative action, would have a better result. Because of this I can't say that I think you're well suited to being Sennin at this time, however I do think you would be a great second to the branch. You'd voice your opinions, you'd lead with confidence, but you'd have that other person to reign you in when you need it. I think that over time, as you gain experience, you will learn to do this yourself, and you will become a great shinobi, and a great Sennin.

Again, I say all this but I haven't interviewed Kahako yet, and so I don't know if the records on her are accurate, if she is the person I think, that I hope, she is. And in the end if she isn't then I will have a very tough decision on my hands, but I will hope that the medical branch will benefit from the two of you as its leaders either way, as your faults seem to be balanced by her qualities, and her faults by your qualities.

He hoped that Junko would take this as it was meant. He meant it in a positive way, that Junko was part of the leadership of the medical branch no matter what was decided by Akira.

We have covered everything I wanted to cover in this interview. However there is something of a personal nature I'd like to ask. I have been an ANBU for most of my life, I have those skills well honed and am shaking the rust which retirement created with training currently. However I have also been very aware of the abilities that medical shinobi have, and their invaluable contributions to shinobi. To this end I have trained myself in some of the more basic medical techniques, but I would like to learn more.

Although the obvious was obvious, sometimes when faced with perhaps the most battle hardened veteran the village still had in service, and leader of the village, the obvious wouldn't make sense. But Akira clarified.

Would you be willing to take me as a student?

Listening to the Raikage, Junko actually had no objections or felt no need to respond. He asked for the man's opinion, and that's what he received. Thinking back on his actions and life, Junko could see how those observations were made.
"Thank you Raikage-sama." Junko said with respect. He appreciated his honesty.

Listening to the raikage, Junko smirked. Out of all the people, he asked for Junko to teach him. The raikage, as a student? Who would've ever guessed. "Well, of course." Junko said in response as he stood to his feet. "No matter what, just give it your all. Not just for me, but the entire village." Junko said Extending his hand for a shake. In his heart, he knew, helping Akira meant helping the village, and he'd need nothing in return. Once they connected, Junko would nod. "Lesson one. Remember this. First clause, No medic ninja shall ever stop medical treatment until the lives of their party members have come to an end. Second clause, No medic ninja shall ever stand on the front lines. Third clause, No medic ninja shall ever die until they are the last of their platoon. Fourth clause, Only those medic ninja who have mastered the art of medical combat or intense battle shinobi tactics can disregard the previously stated rules." Junko would say before walking to the door.

"The legendary Annual contract celebration search is coming up. We'll have the chance to train, travel, and possibly form a bond with a mythical animal. See you there?" Junko would say awaiting a reply. Once the Raikage would give his answer, the medical chief would take his leave.

His request was accepted and Akira stood as well. He didn't voice his acceptance of the part where Junko asked him to give it his all for the village, Akira assumed that much was granted and taken by his taking Junko's hand in a handshake.

Though then he received his first lesson. Second clause made Akira smile with some amusement, but then the fourth clause was stated, Akira's eye closed and he nodded I would hope that my experience might allow me to be exempt of those rules for now. Though it is good to know that they exist and what they are.

Junko then raised the upcoming Raiden festival, and the story of Raiden and the Lightning Bird, it sounded like as good a time as any to get out and do some training. It would be a good excuse for Akira to get out and about that was for sure.

Okay, deal. Will see you there and we'll get the training started.
