十二 Persona
- Standing at a petite 4'11", most people assume her to be a teenager if not a child. Her body is slender and seemingly underdeveloped, sporting an almost nonexistent bust and negligible waist curvature. Momoka's hair is short and blonde, whether or not that's her real hair color is debatable due to the occassional darkness of her eyebrows. The little lady's eyes seem to change color with her mood or perhaps circumstance, or maybe without reason at all. Most often they're a soft shade of pink, but have been seen colored blue or even gold at times. Feigning poor eyesight, she can often be seen wearing glasses when fully dressed or when expecting to read. Her ears have been pierced multiple times, and how many earrings or bars she chooses to wear will vary...While not always occupied, close inspection will reveal holes for piercings at her bottom lip as well. The girl is petite beneath the average standard, weighing no more than ninety pounds at any given time.
十三 History
- For the most part, Momoka's what you'd expect from any civilian girl. Typically shy and inquisitive, she can be surprisingly sociable once the ball gets rolling. Her compassion for all things living and passed radiates from her being even in times of sadness. She doesn't know much about Shinobi, or the life of killers in general. What she does know, is abuse and mistreatment. After being rescued by Jin'ichi, and following him to Sunagakure, she'd seek respectable work. There's a deep fear inside her, of getting close to anyone emotionally. Used to being used and treated as less than human, she had very little self-esteem. The only worth others had claimed to see in her was in subjugating and degrading her, and those experiences left her scarred.
Her fears however; being social , dissipate in times of danger. More often than not, she'd seem to disconnect her thoughts from the events happening to her at the hands of her captors, or fade in mind while forced to perform. This coping mechanism helped her mind keep itself together through the years. Despite being small, and generally helpless, she will not beg. She will not scream. She will not tremble. Ever standing resolute and defiant in her silence, awaiting the next assault. When alone, she can break down, but never be forced to. Accustomed to pain, she added more piercings to her body on top of what she was force to bear. With Jin'ichi treating her as a person, her self-esteem and sense of pride has begun to bloom. Despite Jin'ichi's firm denial of involving himself in any kind of relationship with her, she does her best not to broach the subject.
Liquor can do another thing entirely to her, and losing herself to repressed experiences becoming flirtatious. It is during these times of extreme inebriation, she will make and accept advances on just about anyone. Jin'ichi does his best to keep her protected, but has his own priorities and can't save her from herself forever. She understands fully that his mission is to become a Shinobi and slay his father. She knew he wouldn't let anyone get between him and that mission, certainly not her. Still, their friendship is something beneficial for them both since neither of them socialize much. Not that he'd ever admit any inkling of a need of anything from her.
When Jin'ichi was preparing to leave the island, he left drenched in blood. Momoka was working at a night club, the same one his mother used to when he was still about seven or eight. Jin'ichi always knew a little too much about everything, like a dog sticking its nose in all the wrong places. It only made sense that if he'd leave and maybe never return, he'd kill the man who had his mother in debt for a few years. With a knife he went in one night, while she was working. Momoka was a dancer, but a dancer among many. Sparsely clothed, and surrounded by blue-collared men throwing in their yen. Jin'ichi himself didn't make much of a scene entering, wearing a simple black kimono and black shawl. He'd sit at a table quietly, watching without lust in his eyes. The hardened and yet glazed look told of disgust, pity, and irritation.
It wasn't until he removed himself and walked towards the door of the management did things change. He let himself in, closing and locking the door behind him. That went unnoticed, save for a guard or two. By the time they reached, they were struggling with the lock and pounding on the door itself. Nothing could be heard over the throbbing bass of the music, sending waves of worthless words over a thoughtless people. Momoka noticed at some point, surprisingly not drifting away as she usually did. Remaining silent she kept to herself and focused on her moves, reaching down to tap her ankle. Her eyes fell back to her reflection on the floor, and memories began to sever the ties between her reality and her past. The music faded away to her, and instead she giggle as she moved to a harmless whistling.
She remembered back when she was really young, not just seeming so. She'd lived in the country, on a farm with her grandmother. The old lady was knitting and whistling as a near toddler version of herself spun in circles. Unspoken words crept into her soul, spoken in the crackling voice of the old woman telling tales of those passed. Momoka herself had always been able to see them, ghosts that is. Most were kind, but nearly all were sad. She and her grandmother never spoke of it, but coincidentally all her tales involved a little girl who could do just the same. Stories filled with so much truth hidden behind their creativity. Then the memory would fade as it burned red in her mind's eye, images of their home being raided and the old woman slain. Momoka herself was beaten to a pulp even then, and sold like goods to be shipped away. Unlike most of the other dancers, she truly belonged to her employer.
Passed around and brutalized physically and emotionally since then, once she hit thirteen she was forced to work. It was the same ever since, every day became a blur and all the different faces did as well. Everyone went through abuse of some kind there, why should she be any different? Coming back to reality she noticed blood splattering against the door window the guards were banging on. Just as she stood up to spin, the door caved in and the men rushed inside. There were screams, and more blood. People began to panic, and almost everyone was trying to leave. Except, she just stood there. About a minute later, he walked out, dripping in blood from head to toe. Clutched in his hand was a small meat cleaver, and in his other a bag of yen. Noticing he was being watched, he looked at the only person there, not quite repulsed by the lack of appropriate clothing. She laughed a little, but quickly covered her mouth.
After a smirk and a shake of his head, Jin'ichi himself burst out laughing for a moment. She joined him, and in their small fit of laughter the world disappeared and neither of them were doing anything to change that. Jin'ichi ended it first, collecting himself and covering his mouth with the back of his hand, only to smear blood on his cheek. Reality set in, and his eyes looked towards the cleaver and the small bit of flesh stuck to its edge. He let it drop and leaned forward, into a full march. She called out after him, but he left her alone but alive. For the first time she was free, and quickly gathering her things and some of the leftover money. She wasted no time in tracking him down once she was situated, and quickly followed pursuit after he'd already left the island. When she did catch up at him at a small port, he ignored her entirely and told her to go away. She never did, but he always left.
After the second or third time, she'd noticed that he never actually called her out of her name. Furthermore, he never attempted to yell at nor strike her. He referred to her as lady, miss, and a bunch of other courteous titles while turning her away. Then he was gone, and when she caught his trail he'd already gone into the vast desert. Determined, she prepared herself for the same. Though days behind, and almost losing her way several times she'd arrive in Sunagakure. Not being turned away, and knowing that this is where Jin'ichi would be spending most of his days, she settled in. At present, she works as a waitress at a coffee shop in the Diamond District. With a steady income, and a place of her own she was able to return to her memories...And it came to her, that ever since the raiding murderers took her life away she'd never seen another ghost... With Jin'ichi being the one source of light in her darkness, she often bothers him and stops by the Takahashi household. Instead of escaping to another place, he found himself too lazy to move from his place of laziness. Thus, Momoka and Jin'ichi began a steady friendship.
Not bothered by her far less than voluptuous form, he does often let her know she looks nice. However; one day he made it perfectly clear that he and he couldn't ever become involved with one another, without giving reason why. Without being forced to leave, or spoken to harshly, she stayed and they remained friends. They've even begun hanging out together at certain places of common interest, like looking for horror films. Throughout all their encounters, they'd never spent a single night together...One always returning home. Jin'ichi has mentioned that her child-like appearance reminds him too much of the way the females in his family are built, making it weirder than it already was. Never taking offense at his rather harmlessly honest remarks, the two get along well.
