Physical Description: Hikaru is a light, even girl with dark hair that falls to her shoulders and seems to brighten to a soft brown in the afternoon sun; her eyes, defined by brief flecks of hazel around their edges, often match this brown shade. She has somewhat pale skin lightened from many mornings spent indoors, reading and helping her father with his research. Her stature is very nearly average- she stands just below many of her friends at 137.4 cm, although it doesn’t matter to her. She always wears an open, kimono-like robe colored light red with sections of green and yellow-gold over plain t-shirts, accompanied by simple tan cargo shorts. Her feet are always bare inside, and she wears sandals out of the house. She shares many of her physical aspects with her late mother, but she has her father Kaito’s unmistakable grin, rare as it may be to see her grin instead of a small smile.
Mental Description: Hikaru is an agreeable, booksmart person who cares for everyone she calls a friend. She’s logical, but a little spacey sometimes: she can live in her own head for days at a time, making half-formed plans of escapades for her and others to embark on and reading books cover-to-cover and back again. While she might be absent-minded at times, she always has a goal in mind and works towards it as best she can. Her biggest dream is to become a ninja to protect her village like her mother was and her father dreamed of becoming himself, and many of her elaborate fantasies follow her and her fellows, all grown up and keeping their home safe. Hikaru has strong ideals, however she chooses to show them, and dedicates herself to keeping her loved ones afloat (if mostly in her head). She can be stubborn, however, and often takes it personally when her and others’ values are disputed, leaving her temper much shorter than it normally is. Above all, she enjoys spending time in peace with her father, her friends, or by herself.
History: Hikaru was born early on a breezy mid-April morning to Miyazaki Kaito, a bookworm-turned-researcher with old dreams of becoming a ninja, and Miyazaki Mitsuo, a Leaf Kunoichi. The small family enjoyed their quaint life together, but Mitsuo died after only a few precious years, leaving Hikaru to be raised by her father. He took his now monumental role in his daughter’s development seriously and fed her every book and journal he could get his hands on. Striving to be anything but the boring, workaholic dad he thinks he is, he takes every opportunity to take his daughter to festivals and tell her her mother’s stories about the ninja world. These stories especially inspired Hikaru, and are the reason she has wanted to become a ninja for as long as she can remember. Her father is a big reason she is the way she is: she enjoys helping him out with his historical research, and many of her close friends are children of his co-workers with similar dreams in the ninja world. It was with these friends that she learned early on how to get along with other people, and it’s a skill she carries with her through every disagreement and misunderstanding.
Core Ability: Chakra Attuned: As far back as she can remember, Hikaru’s dream has been to become a ninja. The walls of her room are lined neatly with pictures and diagrams, autographs and excerpts from books on ninjutsu. She read every book her father could get for her and listened to every one of his stories, but she became insistent on real-life experience. With The Unofficial Gennin Handbook: Volume 1 sitting open on a table between them, Hikaru and the braver members of her friend group stood in her family’s side yard one afternoon, eagerly dissing the prospect of developing their own jutsu and being sent on exciting missions. The group decided to practice and see what they could do, naturally a little overconfident in themselves. Hikaru leafed through the Handbook as others around her began throwing stick ‘kunai’ and making any hand seals they could think of. She came to a section detailing Chakra control, with a diagram of a figure standing upside-down with their feet firmly planted on a ceiling. A smile crossed her face- one of her cherished memories of her mother was one where she hung from the ceiling to put up decorations for a festival gathering and lifted her daughter up to help. She lowered her hands from the book, lost in memory- but it didn’t fall. Startled, Hikaru shook her hands wildly, and the book landed back on the table. Beginning to realize what she had done, she placed her hand on the cover of another book and felt her chakra, an ever-present kind of energy in her body she had barely paid much attention to before, connect with the book’s surface at her command. Her arm lifted, and the book stuck. At the end of the day, her friends gathered back at the table to demonstrate what they had learned: a young Uchiha boasted his newfound ability to ‘predict your movements,’ a couple of others had hit paper targets with their play-kunai, and one had even managed to produce a few sparks from her fingers. When Hikaru picked up a book, though, and tried to explain how it was derived from the wall-walking technique, the group was in awe- walking on walls was an elite ninja skill, everybody knew that. After her friends had gone back to their homes, she told her father what had happened, recounting the story of her mother and how she had held the book by accident. He beamed, “I always knew you and your mother are related! You would never have inherited that kind of mystical talent from me, that’s for sure.” His daughter smiled wide and raced over to a stack of books in the corner of the family’s sitting room, trying to lift each one up with her newly discovered talent.
