Character's Physical Description:
Character's Mental Description:At first glance one would think Xiao is frail and girlish. He is pale-skinned and has a lean build, weighing a good 135 pounds. Being androgynous can make determining his gender difficult. The back of his straight orange hair has several braided locks as is Xiangtian custom.
However his girlish appearance, it is with his shoulder-length tangerine hair and green eyes that very few women can resist his charms. His appearance is enough to catch the eye of a renown beauty or two. Of course, that is only referring to general women, not hardened kunoichi but all are considered challenges for him.
His typical attire consists of a long-sleeved pink dragon-patterned Chinese style robe that goes down to his ankle. White cotton pants and leather boots complete his outfit.
Among his family the young Xiangtian is not that tall, only 5'8". Compared to his father and brothers' heights of over six feet two, he is indeed one of the very few under six feet. His appearance and trait are attributed to his mother, the sole concubine of his father. The only thing he inherited from his old man were the common Xiangtian green eyes.
Multiple Personality Application: N/AIf there was a word that described Xiao it would be carefree! Being the last and sixth son of Xiangtian Tenglong and a commoner concubine, he's had a carefree life being ignored by the clan due to his low status within the family because his other five brothers share the same mother who is the only wife of Tenglong. Ignored by his clansmen, he was free to drink, eat and womanize all he liked. He is often viewed as lazy and untalented. However there was naturally more to this playboy of the ancient Xiangtian clan.
Hardened by his experience growing up in the nomadic Xiangtian clan and as a former mercenary, Xiao came to understand that the world was cruelly unfair and that only the strong can triumph the weak whether one walked the Jianghu* or roamed in the shinobi world. He is kind-hearted and friendly but if necessary he can be cruel and merciless. Otherwise one may not live long in the harsh world of Jianghu. As such he holds this certain principle to heart: "if you are a friend and benefactor to me, I shall do my best to repay your kindness twofold but if you are my enemy I will ruthlessly crush you and make you suffer tenfold!" Regardless of how girly and frail this Xiangtian clansman looked like, he is a formidable hidden dragon.
Being perceived as a playboy is his intention. He understands that having high perception in the shinobi world is a huge factor to survival. His experience has taught him that people seem to constantly underestimate those seen as the weaker. Such underestimation has led to the deaths of unwary foes. As a cultivator of the Dao of space, Xiao's dao-heart (mentality) is powerful. He considers himself one with the heavens and stars and firmly believes there is very little in the world that can shake him.
Under the tutelage of his master the scholar Lord Dongliu ("to flow east") Xiao considers himself a philosopher and often carries a scroll containing the sayings of Dongliu, which may or may not exude wisdom.
In general, Xiao is a kind-hearted and friendly but is also one with an astonishingly strong will. True to his forename (Xiao means laughter), he would dare face any storm, laugh and move on. He is also lively and enjoys a good fun, a contrast to the traditional shinobi, but will take things seriously when the situation calls for it.
*Note: Jianghu (lit. "rivers and lakes") refers to a community of martial artists and to "walk the Jianghu" means willing to get involved in a world where death and competition is a high factor. If you died then you can only blame yourself for being weak. In a way Jianghu can also be used to refer to the shinobi world as well I suppose!
Character History:
Note: Okay to skip the majority of the origin chapter (Xiangtian) if you want. The later parts of it are the most important, close to the asterisks.
Years later this boy, now a teenager, spent his time farming and researching. He spent whatever little money he could save on physicians and doctors to understand his problem. Months later revealed the root of the problem. His foundation was ruined. The methods of the sect, though powerful, did not match his chakra and thus strained his chakra coils, now paralyzed in progress. It was akin fitting a square block into a circle. One may be able to stuff such block into a circle with force the block would eventually end up ruined. That was his situation. For a while, the prospect of overcoming his stars and rise to prominence with the use of chakra now became very bleak.
Even so he was not discouraged. He decided to focus on his physical aspects and master the ways of Taijutsu. This meant giving up the life of a farmer and walk into the Jianghu. Every day consisted of pushing to his physical limit and then each night laying down to look up at the stars. There was something about the twinkling stars that made his heart beat with joy. So each night he would just stare for few hours, contemplating upon them. If one had looked at the young man they would notice his eyes would occasionally glow with silver.
He made his living as a mercenary, selling his fists to the highest bidder in order to take up experience to strengthen himself. The teenager was now a twenty-five years old man and received news that the village he once farmed in was under the threat of a roving warlord. To his understanding the people of the village had enough of the harassment and struck out. Angry with this defiance, the warlord decided to announce he would return in two days with his band. Though two days was enough to evacuate the village, the warlord cleverly placed men around the village and after a slaughtering of five people, the villagers no longer had the notion of fleeing.
The green-eyed man remembering the village that once took him in came as soon as he could and faced the warlord in one-on-one combat. The warlord lost his head in an instant and the man received renown. The local lord was shocked to hear of such a powerful figure and invited him to his palace. After a lengthy chat, the local lord told the man he had a physician who may be able to fix his stagnated chakra coils. The man thought that was pointless but giving the local lord face, he decided to see the physician without much hope. The two went to find a wizened old man with eyes still containing sparks of intelligence.
Surprisingly the physician told him it was possible but he would have to start all over again in foundation, which may take time to build up once more. Attracted by such a prospect, the man went for it immediately. He was a hard worker and starting all over again, he was certain, would not take long. Given a pill and a bottle full of blue liquid, the man took ingested both the pill and liquid. Almost instantly, he collapsed and started shaking. The progress he made as child began to vanish and then his body started to emit a silver-blue light. He started envisioning the stars and beyond it. He saw galaxies, nebulae, and meteors... basically the essence of the universe.
Then he understood. I was blind but now I see.
The light stopped flickering and the man slowly stood up. He bowed to the local lord and physician, requesting to be giving an isolated room for closed door training. The local lord was stunned but quickly agreed to the request.
Two months later the green-eyed man left the room with a smile on his face, his clothes a little tattered. His eyes contained wisdom rarely seen on a man of his age. He changed clothes and thanked the local lord for his hospitality before leaving.
Months later the green-eyed man, nearly reaching the peak of his newfound powers, stared up at the dark sky. He had established a base for himself and had many loyal warriors under his command. Due to his power, he rose to prominence unhindered and became a lord in his own right. With the local lord as his ally, especially after marrying his daughter, no one questioned his prowess. No one... but the heavens itself! His power was one unseen before and it allowed him to touch upon the Dao of space, a power no human should have. Indeed he stared up at the dark sky in disbelief. Reddish-purple lightning could be seen flickering and flashing within the clouds. The lighting was condensing in the clouds, building up. It was as if the heavens did not yet approve of him!
The man gritted his teeth and roared at the sky, "Heavens! You cast me away to a life of poverty and hardship but I overcame them all and understood this power of mine! And now you say I may not be worthy of it? Haha... then allow me to show you!"
The man's hands glowed with a golden-white light and just as he got ready to leap up toward the skies, a bolt of reddish-purple light swiftly shot toward the man. The man, though prepared for any attack, was shocked at the speed of the bolt. He growled and thrust his palm forward. The bolt collided with the golden-white palm and dispersed. But not even two breaths later, two more bolts shot down just as quickly as the first one. The two bolts arched and flanked around him. One was incoming to his left and the other his right. Caught off guard at the brutal speed, the lighting clashed at his body but there was no reaction. A second later, the man appeared few feet away. The man had warped away so fast the lightning could not catch up to him. The people down watching this fold out were astonished. Logically one could use an item, a log or such, and replace it but the green-eyed man did no such thing. He vanished then reappeared somewhere else, leaving a scorched and disfigured earth! No wonder the heavens were acting up like this.
The heavens, seemingly furious at this defiance, shot one more bolt, thicker than the last three. The man felt a great sense of crisis and the golden-white light on his hands glowed brighter as he charged out to strike at it.
"Great Golden Buddha Palm!"
The moment this thick bolt of lightning struck the two golden palms, it distorted for a second before destabilizing and disappearing few seconds later. The man panted and then collapsed from exhaustion. The skies returned to normal, the heavens approving of his courageous stand. The surrounding people were so awe-struck that they bestowed upon the man a well-deserved name: Xiangtian, the heaven facer.
A few days later after his fight with the heavens the man thought for a while before naming the technique. This style, exclusive of the Xiangtian clan, shook the world for countless of years and is called Sundering the Heavens.
Eventually the clan moved to a continent that had specialized users of chakra called shinobi and learned their ways, leaving behind numerous descendants.
***
"...and that is how our great ancestor, Xiangtian, shook the world more than a thousand years ago with his Sundering the Heavens Art: Great Golden Buddha Palm technique." a white-robed middle aged man said, surrounded by children under age of ten. He was holding a scroll that contained the portrait of the ancestor, looking at it with veneration. The portrait was of a smiling green-eyed man with short dark blue hair and a single braided lock that hung from the left side of his face, as was Xiangtian custom. Because he was the first to have only one braided lock, no one else in the clan dared to emulate him in that aspect.
One particular child stared at the portrait of the ancestor. His was the only bright-colored hair in the room, completely orange. All the other children had black or dark-colored hair. The only thing in common were the bright emerald Xiangtian eyes.
The child enjoyed the telling of the ancestor and wondered if he'll ever become that strong. His father, Tenglong, would be astonished for sure and maybe for once proud enough to visit him again after all these years...
He began to understand that if one wished to turn their hand into any kind of weapon, one must first be extremely familiar with said weapon! This meant becoming a master of a weapon's dao and essence. And so young Xiao began his harsh training. He was pushed to his limits over and over again, repeatedly told that he can never be a master of the Sundering the Heavens Art if he cannot see beyond the limit of human understanding. He was given a sword and told to never be apart from it, even sleeping, eating and showering with it if necessary. He had to start with 100 swings then increase the number by 100 everyday after the first set. Not only that he must always finish before noon. Starting every day from around seven in the morning to noon, Xiao rigorously trained.
Though the first month was difficult, Xiao gradually began to feel something after a year. He was getting faster each day as he poured complete focus in his activity. Training, sleeping and eating was all he did. Before he knew it, he burst through his limits and learned the One Thought Two-Finger Sword. His hands covered by golden-white light, he formed two fingers on his right hands and moved about as if using a sword. Trees were felled by his slash and he was happy to see that using blade techniques with his Two-Finger Sword would not be impossible at all.
So this is unarmed swordplay? I wonder if I should...
The next day he requested a spear and started using the same method for the sword. A two years and a half later the One Thought Five-Finger Spear was born. With the Sundering the Heavens Art, Xiao obtained an incredible advantage. He could easily switch between a hand-sword and a hand-spear. This type of flexibility allowed him to overcome any enemy, whatever they may be. Combined with his inhuman speed and spatial technique, even trying to land a blow this dragon among men in battle is of extreme difficulty.
Though mostly ignored in the clan and thought as an untalented youth due having a mere scholar as a teacher, he was a son of the Dragon after all! Letting him die out there unprepared was risking being killed and banished to a spatial rift. Xiao sighed and did what he could. Not wanting anyone to know his true strength, he showed only enough to prove he can defend himself, such as basic mastery of using the Divider of Heavens weapon. For extra measure the clan decided sent one dao-protector with him.
So began a mercenary who mostly spent his wages on... drinks, food and women. This naturally infuriated the clan elders but Tenglong did nothing to stop it, as though he did not care. Xiao traveled wherever he could and once came across an abnormal giant named Kyojin. He liked the honest fellow so much he gifted him one of his precious interspatial rings, capable of storing objects due to the small dimensional pocket within.
About four years later Xiao heard rumors that the Leaf village was being rebuilt. Having enjoyed wandering about for a few years, he thought it might be nice to settle down a bit somewhere. Why not Leaf? They may have use for a mercenary.
He found his way to Leaf with his dao-protector Chen and proved his worth by showing his prowess. Now a Leaf shinobi, he considered calling his clan here, allow the Xiangtian to contribute. The clan did have deep resources...
But for now he would need to make a name for himself.
Maybe I'll convert some people into daoists. Should be fun.
Xiangtian (lit. "Facing the Heavens")
In a time when chakra was still being understood, there was a green-eyed boy born to a long-forgotten clan. He was given away to a sect, whose name is lost to sands of time, due to a debt incurred by his father. Upon birth it was detected that he possessed high latent potential and the mentioned sect was extremely pleased. When he was about five years old, the sect used an unique stone tablet that can detect chakra levels to measure the boy. It was revealed he had extremely strong, mysterious chakra. Immediately, the elders of the sect had the boy trained under a specific way of chakra cultivating and techniques. However, later on this strong chakra was disregarded as the boy seemingly could not use any of it! The further he trained in the sect's methods, the more clogged his meridians, or chakra coils ended up. Months of resources and time was spent on a boy who could not even use a single technique in their arsenal. Disappointed with this waste of time, they kicked him out of the sect. The boy, only seven, wandered and found his way to a village where he stayed most of his life as a rice farmer... a farmer with high ambition.Years later this boy, now a teenager, spent his time farming and researching. He spent whatever little money he could save on physicians and doctors to understand his problem. Months later revealed the root of the problem. His foundation was ruined. Sundering the Heavens Art
The eleven years old Xiangtian Xiao, the sixth son of Lord Tenglong, sat cross-legged as he began his secluded closed-door training. He pondered on the Sundering the Heavens Art. In his hands was the bamboo scroll that depicted the history of the Art, how one can utilize the unique chakra of Xiangtian bloodline and eventually be able to rip reality apart. From Xiao's understanding, it seems that one must first be able to maintain the unique chakra, if it can be called that, on one's body constantly. Then minimize said energy to their fists which then can become anything one wills, be it a sword, spear or hammer. Xiao remembered his father demonstrating a small part of this aspect by covering his hands with golden-white energy and then quickly slashing downward to cause a small tear in space as though he wielded a sword. He began to understand that if one wished to turn their hand into any kind of weapon, one must first be extremely familiar with said weapon! This meant becoming a master of a weapon's dao and essence. And so young Xiao began his harsh training. A Man of Fortune
Wanting to see more of the world, Xiao had to convince the clan elders he can survive outside of it. Members who had done so became mercenaries who eventually brought their wages to the clan. That is one of the ways the clan made its living.Though mostly ignored in the clan and thought as an untalented youth due having a mere scholar as a teacher, he was a son of the Dragon after all!
