Character Application
Name: Onirou Akuma
Age: 13
Physical Description: Akuma stands at 190 cm tall (about 6’2” or 6’3”) He’s kind of tan and he has a single horn on his head due to his demonic ancestry. He has medium length hair which he just lets gravity itself style. Even though he’s thirteen, he looks to be more like 18 due to his demon blood. Upon reaching the age of thirteen, Akuma’s body has reached its prime and will remain so until he perishes. Akuma is a simple person. He doesn’t really go all out with his attire and doesn’t really care to have different variations of what he wears. He just wears the same navy blue coat with the same white trousers and black boots. He also wears a white scarf. He has blue hair and blue eyes. He also has blue markings around his eyes that some might mistake for eye shadow, though this isn’t the case. It’s just another one of the many gifts from his demon side.
Mental Description: Akuma is brave, confident, and willing to help others. He is very proud of his ambition of wanting to become a hero, a promise he made with his mother when he was five. He doesn't hesitate to act when the time calls for it, and can sometimes be impulsive in combat, but has also displayed the capability to step back and think about the situation before acting. Sometimes to his embarrassment, Akuma suffers from nervous laughter, a condition where animals naturally grin or show their teeth when nervous, stressed, angered or uncomfortable. He developed this condition after witnessing his mother and brother die. His grin is sometimes mistaken for a menacing smirk by others, and because people think Akuma killed his own mother and brother, he gained the moniker of a devil, but fights to be recognized as a hero. All in all, Akuma is a good person and tries to do the right thing. However, his demonic side makes intensifies his rage when he is angered, something that he actively tries to suppress as best as he can.
History: When Akuma was five years old, he lived with his mother and younger brother, Ken. As a young child, Akuma was passionate about heroism, dressing up as a superhero, mimicking heroic actions from television and aspiring to become a hero that could protect his supportive family. One day, Akuma unexpectedly woke up to discover that his house was ablaze. Watching his mother burn among the flames, she cried out to him, telling him to run. In the chaos, Akuma saw a shadow. He couldn’t make out who it was, only that it was humanoid in shape. Shortly after, the house exploded, causing Akuma to fly backwards and knocking him out against a wall. Akuma was soon saved by an old man named Hiro. Hiro was a retired ninja and a family friend who would often tell Akuma stories about the wonderous world of being a ninja.
After the incident, his mother's body was found and seen by Akuma. As none of Ken’s remains were found, it was assumed he was also killed. Akuma remembered that 'black shadow' in his house during the fire, which he believed was responsible for killing his family. Nobody believed this shadow existed and it was assumed that Akuma caused the fire with his uncontrolled demon abilities.
Akuma was part demon, courtesy of his father whom he had never met; it was probably the only reason he was able to survive the explosion that took his family away from him. Growing up, it was hard for Akuma to control this side of himself. He would often break things by accident due to his extra strength. If he had a nightmare, there were times where he would awaken to a completely destroyed room. Because of this, it was very easy for the people to believe that it was indeed Akuma who killed his family.
The ordeal and shock of his mother's death caused Akuma to develop a nervous and ominous-looking grin, causing others to see him as a devil. The incident and Akuma’s grin caused people to shun him as a monster who killed his family with a smile. His grandmother refused to let him live with her out of fear and disgust for what he had supposedly done. As Akuma still couldn't fully control his demonic abilities, he stayed Hiro, who was probably the only other person besides Akuma himself that did not believe he was the one who caused the fire that took his family. None of this made Akuma change his mind about becoming a hero, however, it only strengthened his desire. During his stay with Hiro, Akuma trained rigorously. He wanted to become a ninja so that he could keep the promise he made to his mother when she was still alive. Hiro did his best to teach Akuma how to control his chakra, believing that, at the very least, the boy deserved the opportunity to see his dreams come true. He was known as a devil who killed his own family with a smile. He wanted to be known as a hero who saved people with that same smile.
Because of Akuma’s demonic heritage, he grew at a faster rate than others. By the time he was thirteen, his body reached its prime and would remain that way until he perished. Because of this, he looks much older than he actually is. He also had other demonic traits such as a horn on his forehead. This combined with his reputation, meant that Akuma spent a lot of his time alone.
Upon turning thirteen, Akuma joined the academy with two main goals: Become a hero and find the person who really started that fire that took his family away.
