Physical Description: Akahiko is a fair-skinned male. He is a bit slender for his age standing at 164.6cm (roughly 5’4) and weighs 47.7kg (roughly 105lbs). He has smooth skin except on his hands as they are slightly rougher from woodworking. He has shoulder-length dark brown hair that frames his face nicely. He has thin eyebrows that sit above his large gray eyes which have nice oval-shaped irises. Akahiko’s nose is small with a slight point upward. His lips are thin with teeth that could only be described as typical for a boy his age. His usual outfit for a school day consists of a high collared and flare bottomed black jacket with a red interior and accents. Underneath this Akahiko has on a long sleeve mesh shirt, red pants, and knee-high black sandals. His outfit is finished off by a black cloth belt at his waist and black lace tied to his right leg. If he has any of his puppets with him he carries them in a large gray rectangular shaped case on his back. He also has a small black pouch he carries around his waist that he uses to hold small items.
Mental Description: The first thing a person would notice upon talking to Akahiko is his coldness towards people. When speaking he isn’t necessarily rude to others but definitely isn’t nice either. This is largely because he purposefully suppresses himself when talking to others as to not show his actually rampant emotions. He also tries to view situations from logical standpoints and does his best to not let his wild emotions dictate his actions. The only exception to these things is when it comes to his family. He takes familial issues very seriously and won't tolerate anyone who talks bad about them or moves to harm them. This is especially true when it comes to his younger sister Akari who he strives to protect from harm. Akahiko can be very nervous about a large number of things but shows strangely high courage and calmness in situations of actual horror or danger. This is largely due to his familiarity with such events thanks to constant recurring nightmares he suffers from. He also shows this same courage and calmness in battle when he is alongside his puppets. Akahiko has an above-average intelligence in certain areas that he uses to supplement for any of his physical weaknesses.
History: Akahiko was born under very unfavorable circumstances. His family was very poor and did not want the financial burden of a child. Not wanting him after he was born his father wanted to abandon him. Though his mother resisted and wanted to keep, quite possibly the only loving thing she ever did for him. After months had passed their financial situation worsened and any shred of love his parents felt for him disappeared. This led to a quickly intensifying situation in which he was being abused. At first just by his father but then by his mother as well. Eventually, this situation culminated into quite possibly a miracle in which they decided to abandon him on the street. While not typically a good thing it was a better fate than to stay with his abusive family. So at the age of three, he was homeless and alone with no way to do anything.
Then around his fourth birthday, he was found, in terrible condition, by Kaoru and Hiroko, a pair of newlyweds. Fitting to their giving and loving personalities they took him in unable to see a child in such a terrible state. They quickly discovered that the boy had no memory of who he was or where he came from. After spending time with him they gave him the name Akahiko and decided to raise him as their child. As a child wanting nothing more than to be loved he took very quickly to his new parents. Something undoubtedly helped by the fact that he couldn’t remember his true parents. Over the next year, they became very close and the couple helped him deal with all of his issues. The biggest of which was recurring nightmares brought on by the subconscious memory of his abusive first family.
Around a year after he became a part of their family they decided to adopt another child. This was when three-year-old Akari came into their lives. Eager to show love to his new sister and make sure she always felt protected and loved Akahiko supplied her with no shortage of attention. He loved the idea of having a younger sibling and being her protector even though he was only a year older. As the years went on Akahiko and Akari became very close with each other. Eventually even more so than they were close to either of their parents. This despite the differences in their personalities.
Around the age of six Akahiko began to develop an interest in Kaoru’s woodworking job. At first, he would simply watch in awe as his father did his work. Though he quickly began to borrow tools so that he himself could work with wood. Primarily this came in the form of whittling little dolls out of wood to give to his sister. While he was young his ability with this was impressive to his parents, and with Hiroko’s permission, Kaoru took Akahiko under his wing. He would spend the next years of his life devoted to learning the craft. Much against their parents' wishes Akari also took an interest in woodworking but was unable to help. Akahiko would always be there for her though reassuring her and taking time to teach her little things about woodworking when he could.
Having a large amount of emotional trauma his nightmares continued to plague him as he grew older. He found woodworking to be a good outlet for these emotions and eventually took to carving small puppets out of wood. These puppets, fashioned after the various creatures that assailed his dreams, became a form of therapy. He was able to take what controlled his sleeping mind and control them himself in the form of puppetry. While this wouldn’t stop his nightmares it would turn into a very important form of therapy.
Eventually, after years of learning his father’s craft, Akahiko found he desired to learn something that would help him protect his family. Not being the most physically capable of people he struggled to find something that he could use to keep them safe. After researching for some time he learned of mystifying shinobi who were capable of fighting people using only specially crafted puppets. He did as much research as he could and did his best to learn the ways of these shinobi. Though he quickly realized that in order to be able to actually use the skill he would need proper learning. Then at the age of twelve, he set his sights on joining the local shinobi academy in order to achieve his goals. Here, he hoped to become stronger and learn to use his puppets to keep his family safe from all harm.
Though before he could join he would need a puppet with which to learn and hone his skills. So he and Kaoru set out to make a large puppet modeled after one of his smaller designs, but fit for use in battle. After a large amount of trial and error working they finally succeeded in making such a puppet. A large bulky doll built for defense at his parents' behest and named Senchineru. Thus finally at the age of thirteen, he was ready to go off and join the academy.
