Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Soons Haven

West of Sunagakure, Soons Haven is a merchant community found on the coastline. The journey to Soons, even in the absence of the maelstrom was perilous. The blistering hot sun threatened to sear the overlord and the ever shifting dunes seemed to be nature's way of diverting the Senju clansman from his path. Despite the natural dangers of desert travel, something a man with experiences such as he would likely be able to overcome with minimal incident. His journey be it by foot, sandstrider or carriage would end when he came to the great alabaster gates of Soons Haven. With walls that seemed to pierce the heavens, security in this small merchant town seemed to be even greater than that of Sunagakure. In Sunagakure he was welcomed into the community, and even welcomed into the home of the village leadership without second thought. Here, there was a sense of concern. Guards were stationed at the gates of the village, they were documenting who was coming and who was leaving through a singular passageway.

If Kazuki was to walk the perimeter of the village, he would discover that this merchant town was not very small, the radius being well over ten miles. The village was not open to entry by land but it was by sea. The harbor was open, but required entry by ship or water. The prospect of entering by water was perhaps more dangerous than identifying himself at the door. An armed man swimming to shore or stowing away among the cargo of a ship would make him appear guilty by default. Entering by land and through the gate might be advantageous if he was not there to kill a merchant lord and while his benefactor might want his name known, the same cannot be said of Kazuki. There was also the concern of his armaments, would his weapons be allowed inside the merchant village considering this new state of lockdown. In the recent past there was no security here, but due to recent allegations made by a businessman naming one of the Merchant Lords partially responsible for the Cabal's incursion among other trespasses.

Notes:
  • Clever use of jutsus is always a plus.
  • What you do here will have village-wide ramifications in the near future.

When a path leads to assassination the last thing you want is to attract attentions to oneself. Unless that is just part of the plan. Kazuki was not so certain if having his presence widely known across Soons Haven, was the best course of action, therefore he chose his feet was the primordial way to traveling to his destination. Sure, the desert was blistering hot, and he could die from dehydration before reaching the end of the journey, but he was a trained ninja with extensive traveling experience. And he possessed something most shinobi did not, he could use shadows to speed up any travel he had to do. Since the Overlord of the Senju Clan was suspicious of Aburabuta's true motives and he had such a handy skill at his disposal, the White Wolf crossed the desert by foot. Merging with his shadows, the Silvery Haired Man traveled at double of his normal pace and under cooler temperatures than it should.

Eventually he reached Soons Haven and what his eyes saw did not amuse him. High walls surrounded the entire community except for where wall met sea. Entering by that route was entirely out of the question, unless he really wished to look like guilty from the get go. He had to use the gates, but security was tighter than in Sunagakure. Only one entrance point and heavily guarded and scrutinized. Unless he had any desire to have his presence known, he could not enter. No so fast at least. There always the possibility of creating an alias or using a transformation jutsu to hide his real appearance, but there was no way to tell if those guards had any shinobi training or not. Unless he was to fight them. The former ANBU Sennin had no desire to face them, not unless forced to. If entering by land and sea was out of the question, a different approach method had to be used. Being the minion master that he was, Reaper had a large pool of creatures to bring forth to do his bidding. Most of them had interesting abilities that were useful only in certain circumstances. Right of the bat he considered two. One frail but sneaky and the other gigantic and destructive. It was just a matter of select what the best approach was. Sneaking seemed better for starters. He had no real knowledge of what it looked like inside those alabaster walls. He needed to learn what was inside before taking any other action.

With a tap of his left foot, a small wavering shadowy orb raised from the sandy ground. It started to grow in size and assuming a humanoid shape. Eventually all motions ceased and next to Kazuki stood a female. It had blond hair and her body was covered in a tight, black and white, full body outfit.

"Enter the village undetected and scout for me. If you find this woman return immediately." the Overlord instructed it as he showed a picture of his mark. Silently nodding, his summon seemingly turned invisible and walked toward Soons Haven.

Beyond the white walls Soons Haven was bustling with activity. Brightly colored awnings shaded merchant stands that possessed mediocre wares that ranged from produce to baubles to silken textiles.Shopkeepers called out their prices, a sea of words and sounds from the fishmonger to the seamstress. The narrow dusty streets were densely occupied but the overload's minion went largely unnoticed. There were some with perhaps shinobi training or inhuman senses that recognized the invisible presence. It was something you could see in the eyes, their lingering gaze or the half smile granted by some as they looked away without a word. Business was business but it seemed that for the most part the men and women besides the guards preferred to keep to themselves and avoid making a scene.

The village of Soon's Haven had an obvious socioeconomic gradient. The outskirts and the periphery, the places first seen by Kazuki's minion housed these temporary stalls with toothless, hungry, leathery vendors. The prices were cheap but the quality was reflective of the price. Perhaps one-hundred feet from the gate or great white wall on every side, the bazaar-like atmosphere of the border transitioned into meager storefronts. Most in disrepair, but the shop owners seemed to wear better rags and some even had teeth in their mouths. There was no actual security here, even in the poorer parts only at the entryway.

Eventually it would be assumed that Kazuki's minion would travel onward. Beyond these dilapidated storefronts, the buildings seemed to appear taller and increasingly more splendid the further from the walls and the closer to the epicenter one would traverse. Gleaming stone and glistening glass, ornate stonework and merchants in finery. There was a certain social divide that was readily apparent, especially to an outsider that was not looking at the unofficial caste system their entire life. Housing, much like livelihoods would reflect similar disparities. The beggars and the street rats could be found along the periphery and the most affluent with their mansions and manicured lawns could be found nestled safely at the center.

There was roaming security in the wealthier portion of the village. Daresay, competent security at that. While the minion was a sly one, slippery, hidden and quick... The guardians here seemed less willing to turn a blind eye. One called out as the minion turned the corner, "hey you! Stop!"

How near or far the minion happened to be from her target's present location, it is hard to say. Evidence suggested that her home or place of work could not possibly be far. The estates rather splendid, the places of business awe-inspiring.

Caught. That the word that best described Kazuki's summon current situation. Although her ability to go invisible was a handy one, it was completely useless against trained shinobi or those with the ability to sense more than a regular human should. Sometimes she could fool ninjas, but today was no such day. After traversing most of Soons Haven relatively unseen, it had now been spotted once richer grounds had been reached. It was clearly in a zone were the richest of the village lived and that meant the Overlord's mark was also there. Reaper had always been a patient one, but his capacity to wait out had grown severely thin since Leaf shinobi had been expelled from Leaf. His years of ANBU training now meant almost nothing. He was still a patient man but he was becoming rasher as months passed by. Assuming a sly smile, Invisible Woman turned visible. It was quite a looker. Well endowed, wearing a form fitting outfit. Shoulder long, blond hair. Milky, white skin and blue eyes. It had the necessary traits to stun a man. However she was just serving as a distraction. The Silvery Haired Man could sense where she was, even if he was still outside the walls of Soons Haven. It was time to initiate his plan of attack. Soons Haven was about to meet hell.

His next summon was anything but subtle. Massive was the best way to describe it. Few others in the former ANBU Sennin's army had the capability for destruction this one had. There were other more powerful, but nothing else could match the size. Assuming Invisible Woman had been able to distract the guard, not that the man would be able to prevent anything, a large summoning circle slowly appeared on the ground near the wealthy villas. Everyone's hearts would grow heavy and a sensation of impeding doom would invade everyone's minds as long as they were in the vicinities. As this feeling grew to unbearable levels, a sudden stillness followed and a large explosion ended it.
Straga.jpg

"I AM STRAGAAAA." the creature shouted as he emerged from the ground. This new being was massive, heavily armored and nigh invulnerable to conventional attacks. The act of taking him down would need a concerted attack from many powerful people. Straga immediately started swooping his massive arms around and each motion could easily destroy buildings and trap, if not kill, those inside. Invisible Woman now had a shocked look on her face and tried to throw the guard toward one of those deadly arm swipes of Straga.

Meanwhile, the White Wolf was still outside Soons Haven and despite the distance, he could still easily see his massive summon. It was time to enter the city. But he was not going alone. It was time to bring forth two of his most powerful followers. Just like before, two shadowy orbs emerged from the sands. And as previously they took humanoid shapes. But the power these two new beings had was on a different level altogether. If Invisible was useful but frail, these two were incredibly powerful on their own. Capable of fighting the strongest shinobi and, perhaps, win.

Bulky, powerful and deadly they were. Together, all three marched toward Soons Haven. Would they appear as saviors or would they add to the chaos? We would soon learn.

OC: Sorry for the delay. =( The 90's Marvel Universe seems strong in your threads.

IC:
A woman appeared, slender and blonde, the kind of girl these two schmucks would ogle at in magazines or occasionally do more with in their dreams. So, sure she was distracting, what hot lady in spandex-like attire wasn't? On second thought, most people are decidedly not a good fit for spandex. These men were not your average run of the mill rent-a-cops, these were the kinds of men that were so skilled that they were sought be these wealthy merchants to serve as sentinels (but not this kind). Perhaps their gazes did linger, but they were also intelligent enough to also recall the moment earlier when she was translucent. Their fingers reached for their hips and curled around the handle of their revolvers. With a flick of their wrist and finesse reminiscent of the failed two gun kid they drew their weapons and let them spin around the axis of their fingers.

On the ground not far a summoning circle had formed. The language not being one that either guard knew but also unnoticed as they were more concerned with the stealthy blonde than the terrestrial changes. The two guard released a series of shots, they were aiming for the 'woman's' heart. These men were the kind to kill first and ask questions later, a practice that had proved rather effective for the most part. As a hailstorm of bullets were aimed at the invisible woman, a monstrous beast had been summoned not far.

"I AM STRAGAAAA."<i></i>

A powerful voice boomed as its sweeping hands scraped against walls and buildings nearby. The thundering monstrosity was a greater cause for concern than the bimbo. One of the men reached for his headset and announced with a calm rarely seen in times of chaos, "The Law... has been broken... I will be needing assistance at the gates of the Guchi estate."</B><i></i> He let out a sigh as he looked over at his partner, the woman flipped him over her hip and hurled him in the direction of the creature who declared itself to be Straga. "Stop playing around Gon," he complained as he was flung into danger's way.

"No problem bro!" the heavier-set guard replied as he took a series of shots at Straga in transit. Most of the bullets seemed to cause minimal damage, but those aimed for the maw rather than the body of the beast seemed to break through. He emptied the casings out onto the ground and started to reload as Straga's hand swept him aside. Airborne momentarily, he smashed into a wall. "...minor problem bro," the guard groaned as he peeled himself free of the indent his body made in the stone wall. Steadying his arm with his other, they shook not from fear but from pain. Gashes and abrasions bled onto his suit as he fired off another series of rounds at the beast. The combustive shots exploded a second time on impact with Straga, some cracking his facade. Fire rained down, setting the ground ablaze.

"Evacuate the merchant's heart!"<i></i> The guard announced, referencing the central part of the city they, being the blonde and the monster had infiltrated the city. The city, comprised of the wealthiest at the heart of the city and the poorest along the fringe, the 'heart' as he called it was a moniker given to describe the wealthiest portion of the village. A horn blared in response to the guard's command.

Outside the village, where the white wolf waited he would notice a change as well. The guards were getting a transmission on their headsets. They would look inward at the city and see nothing, it was quite some distance away, the heart and the fringe that was. The look on the guards face was that of concern as he nodded in agreement and spoke rapidly into the headset. It was nothing that the wolf did not already know, there was something violent in the merchant's heart seeding chaos and destruction. <B>"Lower the gate!" The guard yelled finally, the gate starting rattling downward.

What was the unit marching to do?

It would be fair to say that the fringe guardians lacked power and skill, the invisible woman was able to traverse a majority of the city with relative ease. However, at the heart of the village where all the wealth laid, also the greatest skill. If the gate crashed down before they entered the village, they would have to find their own way in, if it was the method of the juggernaut or if they elected to climb over the walls, dig underground, or enter by sea. Hell, if he/they were confident enough in their skill and felt they had the power and skill of a... Apocalypse and Thanos? Welp, good luck Soons Haven.

Professional and brave. Those two words were easily the best descriptions one could find for those two solitary guards. When facing a giant demonic monster like Straga, the act of not crapping their pants and not flee in sheer terror, was commendable of them. That or they were completely stupid turds whose comprehension of fear did not exist. Nonetheless they were doing their jobs and quite aptly. And there was one more thing to add. Although human, and with no apparent ninja training, those guys were very tough. To survive an arm sweep from Straga and survive pretty much unscathed, that took some superhuman toughness. "Straga will kill you for that." Kazuki's humongous summon shouted as its outer shell was damaged first at its jaw and later through those combustive rounds. Although capable of being harmed, the general of forces of hell was super tough and they were just getting him angry. With a massive clap, Straga sent a small shockwave whose main purpose was to unbalance both opponents so he could then squash with them with those massive fists of him. Invisible Woman, on her hand, was forced to conjure to conjure a forcefield around it to shield itself from some bullets that were shot. Assuming it had the ability to survive that initial projectile barrage, it would then start a counter offensive. Using that forcefield skill it seemed to possess, the Overlord's second creature would conjure a field around one of the guard's head. And said field would shrink and shrink, and keep shrinking until the man's head simply exploded. If that was not enough to take care of him, it would do the same with his right leg, and then his left leg, followed by right and left arms.

On the outside of Soon's Haven, the Silvery Haired Man and his bodyguard duo were heading toward the village. Since the alarm had been raised, walking at their own leisure was no longer an option. Haste was needed. The gates were closing and the White Wolf wanted to be inside Haven sooner rather than later. Unless teleportation was used, the trio did not have enough time to reach the gates before they were closed. An alternate method was needed. With yet another summon, the former ANBU Sennin hoped to stop the gate.

This new creature was green, mean and and hulked out. Strength was his game and few could match it. "Stop that gate from closing." Reaper instructed. A grunt and a giant leap later, this Hulk would be near the gate. Positioning itself in the middle of it, it would attempt to prevent the gate's closure by sheer force. If it was too late for that, the creature would simply use those fists and punch the gate into crumble.

With excellent compensation comes an adequate workforce, or at the very least men proficient in their jobs in the event of a cataclysmic event. The eruption of a giant demon-beast certainly qualifies calamitous happenstance. A mere summon alone was not qualified to overtake something of their wage-grade, regardless of its clumsy brute strength. While shinobis are famed for their formal education, Soons Haven has not remained independent from the rest of the country without a level of aptitude in combat. A single person, even one armed with a small contingency of summons would not be able to take Soons Haven head-on. That was something 'Hirotomi' was prepared for, perhaps he counted on a shinobi's aggression to play into this mission. Did he even consider the possibility of success? Did he really care? The truth be told, as a fellow Merchant Lord posing as the distinguished businessman he had little affection for the other Lords -- it was nothing personal, just good business.

"Straga will kill you for that."

The lanky guard ducked, assuming that those massive hard fists were going to be directed at him. "Get down!"</B><i></i> He cried as the ground quavered under his feet, knocking the guard onto the upturned earth. On all-fours the guard struggled back to his feet. "He's strong!"<i></i> He shouted to his partner announcing the obvious as he pulled a pair of revolvers from his hips. He released several shots in rapid succession as he took a series of large steps backwards until his back was pressed against the iron gate and he punched a button built into the wall that caused the floor to open up beneath his feet and for him to fall away. Like a mouth that opened and then closed with a single long mechanical sigh the door shut tight.

<B>"Duude," the huskier guard replied as he released the shells from his revolver onto the floor and refilled the chambers with a practiced dexterity. A force-field, some sort of power-set unknown much like summoning city-destroying monsters or manifesting so many thralls in such a short-span, formed around the sentinel's head. It grew progressively tighter... and tighter... The air grew thick as the man reached for his neck and tried to peel away the ever shrinking restraint. It was getting hard to breathe, his face was getting cherry-red and his screams were silent. His head imploded, his skull cracking and collapsing onto itself as his flesh maintained a perfectly spherical shape, until this gelatinous remains were squeezed through the narrow rind about the base of his neck in a sludge. His body fell to the ground, quivering still as the last moment of life was spent.

A green monstrosity lumbered towards the great gates of Soons Haven. Upon his muscled back he bore the weight of the great gates upon his massive shoulders. The pure weight great enough to instantly crush most, and unless this being was the actual legendary hulk of myths he would too be crushed under the burden but the closure would be momentarily delayed. Long enough if they made haste, but they might want to consider their own skill-set because the difference between civilians and Lords is great. Their unbridled greeting had already alerted anyone of import with resources to find safe haven, the only ones that would suffer now would be the poor miscreants around the periphery and the unfortunate defenders of this community. In a country where shinobis exist and this walled in merchant town was able to exist independent, a single man would not be able to destroy the village. In fact, the gate seemed to slow for a moment before the hulk gave way. Long enough to ensure the wolf and his associates could enter with relative ease.

Inside, they would see what the invisible woman saw:

Brightly colored awnings shaded merchant stands that possessed mediocre wares that ranged from produce to baubles to silken textiles. Shopkeepers were not presently calling out their prices, but a sea of words and sounds came from everyone from the fishmonger to the seamstress. Sounds of distress and dismay -- their community was under attack! The narrow dusty streets were densely occupied, there were some with perhaps shinobi training or inhuman senses but most chose to flee. The walls constrained their movements, they would not be able to escape but that would not be the case for those with means. As previously mentioned the village of Soon's Haven had an obvious socioeconomic gradient: the outskirts and the periphery housed these temporary stalls with toothless, hungry, leathery vendors. There was no actual security here beyond the gate guard who had already started to flee. He was not strong nor was he stupid or suicidal it would appear.

Competent guards made competent defenses. But even the strongest defense can fall. And their foes combined massive strength with craftiness quite well. Their appearance and the chaos they had created had a goal. To create a diversion so Kazuki could enter the city. Considering his goal was assassination this would seem counterproductive, but the Overlord of the Senju Clan worked in mysterious ways. First and foremost, he was showing them that Soon's Haven could be struck right were defense was the greatest and he was also proving that a single man could do it. He knew very well, that no matter how strong a single individual could be or how great a force he could muster, no single man could conquer an entire village. But leaving a permanent scar was achievable. With one guard dead and the other gone, Invisible Woman's and Straga's presence was no longer needed. They had played their part. One dead and a few buildings down. Now he had their attention. A faint sound later and they were gone. Vanishing out in thin air.

The Silvery Haired Man's latest summon, a green hulk managed to halt the gate's descending motion, albeit temporarily. Even its massive strength was not enough to stop the gate from closing. Fortunately, both he and his apparent bodyguards managed to enter before they were blocked out. With its job done, the hulk also vanished without a trace. The gate completed its descend with a bang, leaving them all inside without an escape route. Poor villagers. Inside chaos ruled supreme as expected. There was little defensive force, if any, and the sole gate guard was fleeing for his life. It was pointless. The rest of the populace, the ones that had not flee were in panic. "Is that the proper way to greet a visitor? Lowering the gates, sounding the alarm. I've seen many villages throughout this world, but never before I received such a welcoming party. My decision to come here is becoming less appealing by the minute." the former ANBU Sennin noted to no one in particular. There was no doubt people would hear his words, but there no one to talk with. Certainly not that coward of a guard. "Tell me what is going on so I can help you. This wanderer only seeks to help those in need. You seem to require aid so allow me." Reaper stated. His voice was calm, reassuring, confident. Nothing in his stance was aggressive. From all point of view, the Dread Lord's desire to help seemed genuine. "My name is Reaper, my companions are known as Thanos and Apocalypse. Where should we start?"he questioned. Who would answer him though?

The chaos at the heart of the village did not go unnoticed. A panicked call from one of the guards. The open line that heard a guard's last breath. The cacophony of sounds - the roar of a building being demolished and rattling noise made by the quavering earth. Dust darkened the sky as particulate debris extended into the atmosphere.

The villagers, or rather the poor villagers would suffer the greatest during this turmoil. Those with means had an out, there was always a bunker, panic room or tunnel that would lead them to safety but what of the average man? The unwashed (some for several days) masses? Left without defense or recourse, some had the skill-set of a mediocre shinobi at best: a lucky shot. They were essentially a natural meat shield for their betters, a fact few actually understood and those that did appreciate the disparity also understood that it was simply the way things were. There were screams of both men and women, some of children in response to the chaos. There were no heroes here. Terrible and shrill were their cries. The clatter of wares falling to the ground and the flurry of color before one's eyes was dizzying as merchants and consumers alike scattered. Departure from the great walled in village would not be easy, in fact it would prove impossible for these unfortunate bystanders who were trapped like rats. With the gate down and walls neigh near unscalable for those without chakra-manipulating skills, their only recourse was the sea. Some thrust themselves into the icy waters, the dangers of ships moving in a harbor or the creatures immediately below the surface less of a concern than whatever was happening inside.

That is where the Overlord and his bodyguard came in -- during a period of unmitigated chaos. The people were frantic and terrified. Most did not even hear the dignitary greet to populous.

"Is that the proper way to greet a visitor? Lowering the gates, sounding the alarm. I've seen many villages throughout this world, but never before I received such a welcoming party. My decision to come here is becoming less appealing by the minute."

He announced as he brazenly entered the merchant community, the hulking green giant dissipated into ether. While some would never see the verdant beast-like creature, those who did would associate him or it with the pert stranger. Regardless of seeing who or rather what was with him, his lack of fear was enough for the crowd to part. Much like how a man who smells of feces would have a several foot barren space, this man who hopefully did not smell of shit or anything bad at all did give off an aura of sorts. None in tune enough to cal it malevolent, malicious, beneficent or benevolent -- they could say it was serene... calm in the face or chaos. In a situation where one was not like the others such as this -- that one was the one to avoid. That was a survivor's mentality at the very least.

"Tell me what is going on so I can help you. This wanderer only seeks to help those in need. You seem to require aid so allow me."

He continued, intrepid and compelling. But when you spawn a chaotic scene, perhaps it would be best to hide among the vagrants and the agitated masses. To be among them unless he wanted to appear as the hero undoing a pain and a terror that was of his own making. An adult with their honed self-preservation instinct would not respond to the Overlord's 'charitable' offer but a child... yes, a child would look to the man so tall, fearless and great and revere such a paragon of potential. And that it was, a child, a small little mouse of a thing stopped at the 'Reaper's' feet as he introduced himself.

"My name is Reaper, my companions are known as Thanos and Apocalypse. Where should we start?"

The little boy, his eye wide like a saucer and a hat that shaded his face pointed towards the heart of the village. "Bad" the little boy announced as he pointed towards the homes of the merchant lords. "The ninjas will kill us all," the young boy added sagely. The statement astute and direct despite his limited years, but children in these parts had to either grow up quick of die. "We've been told that they are going to come... come for some time,"<i></i> he added. "I would hide if I was you mister. Hide from the bad shinobi men."<i></i>

Chaos, chaos and more chaos. It was everywhere raging uncontrollably. Kazuki was its cause and hoped to end it. Unfortunately his master plan was not working very well so far. His magnificent speech had been largely ignored by the local and panicking populace. While among them, the Overlord represented calmness. But those folks were not after it. The Silvery Haired Man's plan was going fine but he did not account for the fact that he was on a foreign country. And foreign countries meant foreign people with different mentalities. In the Fire Country people procured those that were calm enough to guide to safety. Such happened countless times before, the more recent being when Konoha was evacuated. In the Wind Country that was not happening at all. It would seem that the White Wolf's presence was akin to a foreign body, someone to be ignored and avoided. Alas he kept trying and eventually he attracted someone, not what he was expecting for though. A boy with saucer wide eyes and a hat approached the trio and spoke to them.

The Dread Lord knelt in front of the kid as Thanos and Apocalypse protected them both. "I do not fear them child. Let them come and I will face them." the former ANBU Sennin reassured him. "However I am not from around, I do not know these shinobi you speak of, so it could be better if I hide for the time being. Do you have a shelter? I can take you there." Reaper questioned. Perhaps showing a sympathetic side and helping the common folk would aid his cause.

As the stranger knelt to meet the child's impossibly blue eyes he utter words of assurance to the potentially foolish youth.

"I do not fear them child. Let them come and I will face them."

The child amidst the chaos shook his head 'no.' He like many children his age was without a family. Some because their parents died, others because their parents felt that they would have betters lives free from the responsibilities of childcare. His story was a sad one but also an utterly irrelevant one. The child's face however did not reflect such misery, rather one of simple curiosity and blind faith. "When the other bad men came I hid under the streets," the young boy confided. He was referencing an event that took place in Soon's Haven several weeks earlier. Unbeknownst to him the Cabal had visited Soons Haven prior to journeying to Sunagakure, in fact they had made several trips here in the past. They were not the villains this time but rather the heroes this day, stopping a band of bandits from looting the poorest portion of the village before adept guards could intervene.

"However I am not from around, I do not know these shinobi you speak of, so it could be better if I hide for the time being. Do you have a shelter? I can take you there."

Calm in the midst of a storm. He was standing out by the the sheer fact that he was not afraid. That he too was not fleeing. That he was a stranger. "Bad people like to come and take stuff, it makes me mad,"</B><i></i> he added as he motioned for the stranger and his allies to following him as he rushed into the heart of the panicking crowd. Little legs and astonishingly nimble, the boy ducked and weaved between the scurrying masses. many of them also seeking shelter and refuge wherever they could. Doors boarded up, curtains drawn, the street within moments transitioned from a place of pandemonium to a place of reticence. Even the sounds of life seemed somehow muted, not a whimper or a cry. Even the young boy seemed to vanish into thin air. If the Senju clansman looked he would see a pair of big blue eyes looking back at him from beneath a building. It would appear that he crawled into a storm drain. The bars that often covered such were absent here. Come to think of it, a storm drain in the desert. Makes more sense if you do not think about it. The boy waved his hands and made a barely audible hissing sound to get the Overlord's attention.

That was one direction the Overlord could travel. However there seemed to be options. In the absence of chaos, he could see distantly a pair of men in full body armor with their faces covered. Both were armed, with swords. Side by side they ambled down the streets, the fact that something terrible was happening seemed to be the least of their concerns but conceivably also the reason they exposed themselves as such. They had not focused on Kazuki yet but they were traveling in his general direction. <B>"Come with me,"<i></i> he young boy hissed urgently. "They are going to get you,"<i></i> he warned.

If he looked to the right the Overlord would notice a third locale of interest. A massive mansion, they had made their way to the epicenter or rather close to it. The buildings here were much nicer than those where he entered. In face reminiscent of what his summons saw when they traversed the city a short time earlier. A sign labeled Gucci could be seen on a wrought iron fence, it as simple and unadorned but likely expensive considering the weight and size of the foreign ore used to manufacture the perimeter. The lawn was lush, green and short. The grass more like moss it was cut so fine. The building itself not far. A two-story building- white and fine. Why people like white things so much was a mystery that would not be pondered here. Large wood framed windows adorned the face. The building seemed easy enough to invade if that was his desire, although it seemed odd that the wealthiest among them would leave such splendor undefended.

What is an Overlord to do?

What Happened?
  • Options... options... options... you have three places you may consider.
    • The little boy is encouraging you to go underground.
    • A pair of what appear to be samurai are walking down the street.
    • The Guchi estate is to your right.
  • The streets are now for the most part empty -- weird eh?

It seemed the kid could not be swayed by whatever Kazuki could conjure from his mouth. Perhaps he had been hardened by a life of poverty and malnourishment. Or the Overlord lacked the necessary qualities for a true silver tongue. Regardless what was said was said and there was nothing to change that back. Under the street the kid explained. Shelter could be found there as the Silvery Haired Man knew so well from his trip to Sunagakure. Considering the proximity to Sand, it was no wonder if Soon's Haven also had a system of tunnels, where the inhabitants flocked under times of great danger. "Bad people like to come and take stuff, it makes me mad" the boy added as he motioned for Reaper and his bodyguards to follow him. "What if you could fight back? Would you turn such an opportunity down? What if you could prevent bad men from taking your stuff or anyone else's stuff against their will?" the White Wolf muttered back. Despite the evilness of slavery, most slaves were quite content in being slaves. And once freed they usually had no idea of what to do next, sometimes even becoming enslaved again. This pattern was also prevalent in people that could not defend themselves. They were so accustomed to not having the means to fight back, that they grew content in just fleeing from harm, never considering the thought of fighting back.

The former ANBU Sennin was about to follow the kid when something else immediately caught up his full attention. A pair of fully armored guys were casually strolling to the plaza. What they were was quite clear. Samurai. Bloody samurai. If there was something that could rile up Reaper, that was the sight of samurai. The scourge that had driven him away from his rightful home. The bane of shinobi, right here, right now. Kazuki's face assumed a feral expression as his eyes practically darted at those two men. His entire being cried for an attack, but he knew he was at a disadvantage here. Attacking was nothing but pure suicide. And the Overlord did not possess suicidal instincts. Shaking his head, the White Wolf followed the boy while commanding his bodyguards to do so as well. But he was not going away without a parting gift.
darksiders_straga.jpg

Because he did not need to use handseals, the Dread Lord could summon his army as easily as he could breath. A single step was all that he required. A large, crimson red, runic circle appeared on the ground, behind the unsuspecting samurai. A massive and armored fist emerged from the center of the circle, being quickly followed by an equally massive and potently armored creature. This giant being looked like a demon and it was one. "I AM STRAGAAAAAAA." the demon boomed. This was precisely the same one as before, but whatever damaged it had sustained, it had been healed. The reason for this surprise show up was twofold. One to hide Kazuki's movements and to attack the samurai.

OC:
Option A: Hiding with the Kid, but leaving something to entertain the Samurai.

"What if you could fight back? Would you turn such an opportunity down? What if you could prevent bad men from taking your stuff or anyone else's stuff against their will?"

An odd smile came over the boy's youthful face. There was a twinkle in his eye as he nodded with his reply, "this is how we fight." From beneath the earth in these hidey-holes, somehow to this boy this was apparently the 'good-fight.' Could anyone blame a child for reducing a game of survival to something as simple as hide-and-seek where those who wished him harm were the perpetual seeker. They would never find him here underground. Right. He was of course the first to scurry beneath the ground like a roach at the first hint of peril. Perhaps it was a part of human instinct despite the fact that man had no natural method for digging beyond his hands.

It was rather obvious that this man was not 'normal' as in the usual merchant traveler. In the absence of regalia marking him as belonging to one village or another, the Overlord's identity was an utter mystery. It would be considered foolish for the boy to lead a stranger of unknown allegiance into his hiding place, a closely guarded secret for most his age. Perhaps he would not like to see his next name day. "Hurry!" The boy demanded.

Into the storm drain the clansman went but not without leaving a 'gift' in his wake. The walls were dimly illuminated by what would appear to be simple, bare, unadorned light bulbs. They were set far apart but did not appear to be an afterthought: built into the wall with flush light-fixtures there was a layer of dust over the narrow lip that extended millimeters past the plastered wall edge. The unpainted walls extended several feet in either direction before they terminated visually, each making a 'T' at the end leading in opposing directions. Exposed beams broke through the ceiling at the six-foot marker every several yards, making it somewhat annoying for those blessed with the gift of height. The tunnel had an eerie silence to it, seemingly buffering the chaos and noise above, sounds surely Kazuki had heard many times before. Perhaps it was best that they were muted as they were, but from the ear closest to the 'drain' entrance the Senju could hear: "I AM STRAGAAAAAAA." With Kazuki's sense of sound, assuming it was more keen than that of an average man even in the absence of a bloodline limit he would note the sound of men and perhaps women or the presence of some effeminate men among those gathered to the North (if Kazuki had a natural sense of direction as well). To the south was utter silence. "Hurry!" The boy reminded him as he waved for him to follow. "I know a safe place we can hide until this is over and it should be soon," the boy reasoned as he moved ahead of Kazuki ducking slightly beneath each of the six-foot beams despite them being quite a distance over his head. The boy was headed North. He would take the sharp right when the hall terminated and dash through what would appear to be a steel door. The kind one would find in bunkers. The kind one would find if someone was fearful of the end of the world.

If Kazuki did not follow the boy, it would prove to be rather maze-like in these tunnels and the boy would not leave Kazuki's side entirely as he would turn about-face as the hall terminated and return to Kazuki's side. "Wrong way!" he would complain beckoning Kazuki to again follow him the way he had intended. Without following the boy and much to the young man's dismay if Kazuki decided to determine his own path he would quickly realize something he perhaps already assumed: these tunnels are man-made and serve as a maze beneath most of the city... or at least the parts worth traveling between. This would prove if he decided to map it out a path to beneath the Gucci estate.

Apparently samurai were a hot-spot for the former Kohonan, this being something the universe (or this writer) forgot about. None-the-less, these terrible samurai who had nothing to do with Leaf and Kohona's downfall and therefore cannot be held responsible for he actions performed by those who happen to also be samurais. Sadly, there was no lawyer to announce this fact. Nor was there a notary in sight, all had fled less these two unfortunate men and a crimson circle that was ascribed by an unseen hand on the earth that summoned a great beast.

"Tch."

"Looks like we have a big one this time."

Each of the men drew their weapon without hesitation. They would not make the first attack, they were not that foolish or that suicidal. They might be powerful. They might be able to take down whatever this thing was. They might not. Such questions should always be tested in a controlled environment. in a land where people can shoot lasers from their eyes and summon storms at their will, some demonic denizen could have a power unanticipated. Both of the men prepared themselves for a fight or a flight.

"This is not fighting boy, this is delaying the inevitable." Kazuki answered at the kid's so called fighting back. The boy was so wrong it was not even funny. Hiding away in a moment of crisis was a good and viable solution. Live to fight another day. But to do so everytime a crisis has to be faced will only lead to one's demise. Sure, said doom will be delayed and delayed, but until a counterattack is initiated, one simply has no chance to prevail. The more the Overlord walked through those tunnels the more it was revealed. They were man made, with periodic lamps lighting the environment. They also seemed to be constructed as a maze, but luckily the White Wolf had a guide at his side. A guide that seemingly knew his way around very well. The tunnels were also not very tall, but the Silvery Haired Man was not the tallest of men, so he was not impaired by the height. His summons, however, were and so they were forced to bent their backs. The former ANBU Sennin could very well venture on his own, but so far nothing told him he should. He had opted to follow the boy to his sanctum and he would do so. This could be a trap, but pity the fool that would dare to do so.

Straga was now facing a couple of sword-ready samurai. The massive being was an easy target for determined opponents, and despite its inherent durability, not even it could sustain damage forever without assistance. Kazuki's contact with Straga was slim, but he was still aware of what was going on, even if there was a certain lag. Without warning, the creature would simply vanish. There was no way to know if it was truly gone or had been rendered invisible.

"This is not fighting boy, this is delaying the inevitable."

The boy gave him no answer as he scurried up ahead of the stranger leading him to a destination known only to him. "HERE!" The boy announced triumphantly as he stopped immediately beyond the threshold of the room that he was leading the Overlord to. He slammed the door shut with both hands. The room as simple, small and had only a single metal chair and table. The door they entered was the only way in, or more importantly out. The floor was clean, as if was swept regularly. This was no utility tunnel, rather it was a place of relative import. Boxes lined a shelf, they were small and cardboard labeled simply -- 'dried meat,' 'wine,' 'beans' among other basic wares. It would appear that they were in a sort of pantry space.
Pity the fool if you must.

The boy did claim that this is 'how they fought.' Soons Haven has existed alongside bandits, ne'er-do-wells, dangerous nomadic tribes, rival merchant communities and a hidden shinobi village and has still been able to survive without a known military force. How could this be accomplished? By doing the one thing ninjas have forgot -- being sneaky. Sure, they have guards. Rent-a-cops who carry mace and tasers, some swords and sharpened sticks. More than enough to keep the kids at bay, a loud-mouthed indignant or even a bandit that was not very good at his or her job. Then there were those samurais, or at least armored men who seemed to make a scene with their presence but what have they really done beyond act with confidence? A walled in city that thrived on the comings and goings of people of every ethic, they had men who new how to lower a gate but not recognize a manufactured or resurrected summon. Their defense was to lower the gate AFTER the threat was already inside, not to prevent the threat or to expel it in some way. Why?
Simply put, so they can put you where they want you.

"It should be over soon," the young man announced as he pointed at the table and the chair. "The bad men never last more than a few hours," he confided. "You... seem different mister. Different from most other people visiting and you are not from around here. Why aren't you scared? Scared of the bad men?" The boy engaged the Overlord in childish banter. He pointed at the walls and started to talk a mile a minute about how he found this place a few weeks ago and how he sleeps there sometimes and how there is always food here which he likes. With a large childish grin he offers the overlord some meat or some drink, warning the stranger at the same time that the drinks taste bad and give him a tummy ache.

What Happened?
  • The boy brought you to a pantry and locked the door.
  • The boy is asking you a lot of questions.
  • The boy is offering you food/drink.
  • Does everything about this situation make sense?

This could only be a trap. But it was yet to be sprang. Kazuki, his summoned bodyguards, plus the kid, were all inside a tight, cleaned, metallic room. This division had little to no furniture, only a single table and chair, both made of steel. There was but a single entrance, a metal made door that the kid had closed. Despite the oddity of the entire situation, they were inside man made tunnels, there were certainly more rooms like this one out there, the oddest thing of all were the random supplies that littered their hiding place, properly stored in a shelf. This was a clear sign that this division was important and belonged to someone. No kid, regardless of what country he lived in, would focus on acquiring wine for their hideout. In fact, after learning the boy had stomach aches everytime he drank the wine, the Overlord was certain he had no idea of what wine really was. The Silvery Haired Man eyed both bodyguards and immediately they became more alert. Their senses were attempting to attune to whatever unseen dangers awaited them.

"I seem different, because I am different. I came from the Fire Country and in my home, we don't fear bad men as you put them. We fight them." Reaper partially answered. He refused the food and beverages he was being offered as he suspected them. Nothing in here seemed right. A boy finding an empty room that he regularly used and that kept being restocked? Something was amiss and big time. "Clearly this room was not made for you to inhabit it. Have you ever meet its owner?" the former ANBU Sennin calmly questioned. By now, both Thanos and Apocalypse were near the door. In fact, Thanos would try to open it up and see what happened then. Was the kid really only a kid? Or was there more to him? Kazuki was slowly but steadily understanding Soon's Haven defensive M.O. At the sound of alarm, shut the gates and trap the assailants inside. Use the chaos on the bazaar to lead the offensive force to wherever it was best to deal them and then land the hammer. This room could very well be the anvil. And the White Wolf been lead them just like a docile lamb. But if this was true, whoever his opponent was, he or she would soon learn this sacrificial lamb had shark jaws.

With a Knife!

The metallic room was not impressive by any means, but Kazuki's 'spidey sense' was on the mark. There was something wrong. He was right, this clean'ish storage space at the terminal point in a man-made passage could be occupied by a mere child. No blankets or rations. No childish comforts or evidence of waste. This rather Spartan setting with metallic furnishings and walls.

The Overlord identified himself as being from Fire Country. News of their tragic circumstances might not have made it to the general populace of Sunagakure being as isolated as it was but it made it to trade communities such as Soons with great haste. How did that work out for you?" The 'young man' answered coldly.

The invitation for a drink denied. The 'boy' frowned, the former Sennin seemed like the type that would enjoy the finer things in life regardless of the setting like those who came here before him. It would have been messier and it was arguable whether it would have been more humane. He was not a good or even a kind man, however like most people he was willing to make his workday easier.

Clearly this room was not made for you to inhabit it. Have you ever meet its owner?"

Me, the 'boy' replied simply as his eyes scanned the Kohonan's summons as they fiddled with the locked door. It was obvious that the charade was about to end. "Tch, door works on a timer, mate," the 'boy' explained "won't open for another fifteen minutes." His voice changed, or rather his accent did. A small knife was liberated from his pocket. It seemed worn, tired. It was no more than seven inches in length including buth the handle and the blade. "Couldn't just drink the wine and take the ea'sey way out could ya mate?"

Did Soons Haven employ children to serve as innocent seeming wide-eyed killers?

Thankfully, no. Anchondroplastic dwarfs, on the other hand, are fair game.

"I have a wee confession to make," he announced "I am not a good man."

Fight Time. You know the deal. ~

"At last..." Kazuki thought as the trap finally revealed itself. Sure, he did not expect the boy to be the actual source, but it had been effective. And well, the fact that the boy was no kid was also brilliant. Even if he was in the epicenter of it all, the Overlord had the opportunity to admire the how easily he had been played with. It was no easy feat to pull that off. "Allow me to congratulate you. What you just did was no easy feat. You truly are cunning and conniving. I can't help myself but to stand in awe and completely defenseless." the Silvery Haired Man calmly noted. The dwarf would realize that for one alone and whose life was at risk, the Dread Lord was incredibly calm. Of course he had no way to know that the White Wolf was always like that, regardless of the circumstances. The former ANBU Sennin shrugged his shoulders upon being questioned why he did not took the easy way out. "There is no such thing as an easy way out. Life as a Senju is not a breeze and other people usually find this out the real hard way." he casually commented as if he was just talking about the weather with a very old friend.

Reaper crossed his arms and eyed his newfound foe. He did not have knowledge about this guy's potential power set. He was probably skilled with a blade and subterfuge, but besides those two guesses, he was effectively fighting blind. There was no point in needlessly risking his life when he outnumbered his opponent. Sure, summons were usually weaker than proper ninja. But usually was the key word. Thanos and Apocalypse were no ordinary summoned creatures. Although the conversion from alive to dead summons usually weakened those beings, those two almost possessed the extent of their full powers. Perhaps it was time to see how good they really were. The creature known as Apocalypse morphed his right hand into what looked like a hand cannon. It summoned his dark energies and shoot the dwarf with a ball of concentrated power. At the same time, Kazuki extended his shadow toward the tiny guy so that they would merge. If successful, he would be able to paralyze the guy and force him to get shot at.
"Unfortunately for you, I am worse." he remarked.

[col][legend="[b]The Story[/b]"]Perhaps he had a bit of superficial assistance in this ruse. The transformation jutsu he was using faded away revealing a middle-aged midget. At least the size was about right if nothing else. He still donned the clothes of a youth, his eyes still too large but now a series of crevices lined the corners of his eyes now duller with age and the deep creases along his brow even when it was not furrowed.

"Allow me to congratulate you. What you just did was no easy feat. You truly are cunning and conniving. I can't help myself but to stand in awe and completely defenseless."

The midget drew a knife. It was a disappointingly stumpy little thing. "You would not be the first one backed into a corner by my cunning," he replied, feeling rather self-important at this point. "But I will do you a favor and make this quick," he added. It was a lie of course. He was a liar by nature, that much was obvious from their initial meeting. 'Strong' men rarely rely on cunning and trickery, but small men have to 'think harder' if they want to survive... if they want to win. He was not necessarily smart, he just had a few fundamental tricks up his sleeve. This being his main trick, revealing his true identity to shock his opponents. To cause them fear. He said he was 'scared' but he certainly did not sound like he was. A strange quirk...

There is no such thing as an easy way out. Life as a Senju is not a breeze and other people usually find this out the real hard way."

He added off-handedly. He identified himself as a member of the Senju Clan. The midget really did not know the family name, perhaps it was better known in Fire Country. Perhaps the wealthier circles would be familiar with the Sennin if not his lineage at the very least, but this boy-man did not keep up on politics. He had a job to do. A wage to earn. A blast of energy was released by one of the big ones. The blast of energy scalded the dwarf's arm.

"Unfortunately for you, I am worse."

Kazuki announced. "Good," the midget replied with a sneer.

Despite his size, this midget was quick. Wielding a knife he lunged at the Overlord. "I am going to slice out your heart," he declared with a strange midget-cackle. His knife cut into the Senju in several places on his torso, but all of them missed his heart.

It was then that the world started to fade into shades of grey. The shadows, dark and thick... nearly tangible. The already small battle-space was ensconced in a black dome of gloom. This was the rumored ultimate technique of the Nara Clan, not that the midget would have known. This dark haven, this hellish realm of shadow. This nearly impenetrable void of malicious shades inside a sealed room - twice isolated from the world. "I'm scared..." the midget taunted as he scurried across the floor to a secondary vantage point to continue his assault through the haze.

The shadows themselves reached for the tiny man. In a burst of speed, the dwarf was where he was... then he was in another place, barraging the former Sennin with his tiny knife. Only once it sliced into his heart. A stab that chipped his sternum. He let out a laugh when one and sadly only one of his intended attacks to break this man's brittle heart actually hit. It was still enough to cause him some pain. Some discomfort. level of trepidation for what will come. He continued to slash, but none hit their desired mark (the heart) but did slice into the flesh.[/legend]|::What Happened?::
