Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Peeling Back the Sands [private]

Her song persisted. It insisted. It rang out a fearsome melody in a language only herself and the Deep Court Lord could recall. There was pain and sorrow laced in the words of this ill-gotten tune. Her words had power still, the authority to twist and pull at the sinews of one's heart and stir one's mind.

It might be a terrible thing to admit this, but Shiori or rather Suna had only heard rumors of the Sunahoshi's return so she did not recognize the gaunt and lean man beneath the mask but she did know that it was not the same face she recalled from the day they met. Yes, she was one of the few to see his true face, but it was only for a moment in the darkness but at the time her ears were her keenest sense. In fact they still were. The deep green tresses and the pallid flesh of a man, a living man with a beating heart. How he scraped by differed from her -- she took refuge in dolls rather than flesh which to her seemed macabre. So she truly lost this moment and this reveal for its actual significance. The pain and the regret that likely washed over the Steward and the cavalier sense that Mikaboshi likely relished was only theirs to experience. Bat-like wings spanned almost the entire room and devil-like horns protruded from his head, deep within the recesses of his eye sockets the eerie eyes of not a man but an antediluvian entity that perhaps had not seen the dawn of time but had seen the beginning of mankind. This was as close to Mikaboshi's true form as Suna had seen in centuries, she cocked her head to the side and said to herself silently 'always one for the dramatic brother.' He had grown greatly in power over this past year, to have such a vast store of souls at his disposal and to have this kind of energy already. It was a fearsome display considering she was murdered here only minutes earlier, the contrast was disheartening -- he was great and terrible and she was still just a whisper... just a ghost. It enraged her and she felt a bitterness deep within herself at this fact, it was a very human emotion this jealousy and this anger that she forced herself to hold at bay and prevent from boiling over.

The winds whistled and screamed as she compressed her element into a whirling sphere and hurled it at her former cousin. His durable physique would suffer only minor grievances before she attempted to bury him and his newly freed ally to their necks in sand. She missed the potential half-breed and she scowled at her own incompetence. The Senju needed to stay still and stay out of the way, as cold as it was in his frozen prison he was safe from them. By them she did not necessarily mean herself and Mikaboshi but also his apparent ally Sousuke. The man, like all humans would betray him. It has happened over and over again through the years, not that Ancients had not earned their ancestor's ire but now it was a generational grudge. Would Kazuki force her hand in combat? It was something she did not desire, there were so few of them left and even a distant shred of their heritage needed to be preserved. She did not want to assault the possible mutt. "Stand down Kazuki," Shiori insisted in a low guttural voice. "This is not your cause," she declared once he was free of the frigid prison and somehow evaded her follow-up binding attack. That was if nothing else his excuse for non-intervention, something he relinquished when he moved out of the way.

Mikaboshi had decimated Sousuke in a single, brutal blow of frigid might, Kazuki was caught in the dark attack. Sousuke crashed onto the floor, limp. They had gone too far for her to mourn over Sousuke's safety or his fate, Sousuke declared war on her kind when he subjugated one of their own. When he refused to relinquish that grasp. When he greedily took what was not his as if it was his to take -- he feigned necessity but in truth he never considered the wants and the property of another. Everything was his and he would find an excuse to make it so. Mikaboshi would soon finish the deed and that would only leave the Senju and she would regret would she was about to do. She was not going to kill Kazuki, she did not want to see him die. She just wanted to be free and to have the right to live like anyone else. It was a liberty that far too many took for granted. Sousuke could rot for all she cared, the Senju's greatest sin was allying with the wrong man thus far. She took in a whistling breath and sand started to pour into the room from every side. Writhing and roiling underfoot, tendrils of earth would lash about. It was time to end this.

Mikaboshi's ruthless attack hit home and he felt Sousuke go limp behind it, falling to his feet into unconsciousness as the blast of dark power slammed into his body behind the weight of his claws. Looking down at the defeated form of Sousuke, Mikaboshi felt nothing. No satisfaction, no panacea for the anger in his heart. Only bitterness and hatred remained as he gazed down at his victory. It wasn't enough. He'd only defeated Sousuke in a battle -- he'd known before going into this that he'd be able to do that. He knew the Steward's combat capacities better than anyone else in the village and as he was now Sousuke was simply no match for an unrestrained Mikaboshi with the stolen power of the spark of Primus behind it. He needed to force Sousuke to feel the way he did. He needed the Steward to experience the same loss and despair of his own before he could begin to move on.

There was still much work to be done.

"You are not worthy." Whispered Mikaboshi to the unconscious form of the Steward before the force of his presence skyrocketed once more causing the flames to dance around him in response. From behind the chiropteran form that Mikaboshi had taken a long sinuous tail snaked out and wrapped itself tightly around Sousuke's throat before hefting the beaten man into the air before Mikaboshi.

"YOU!"

"ARE!"

"NOT!"

"WORTHY!"

Each word of Mikaboshi's accusation was punctuated by a brutal assault on Sousuke's body from Mikaboshi. It wasn't enough to cause lasting damage to his body... at this point Mikaboshi was just venting his anger rather than fighting to actually harm Sousuke. Taking his breaths in ragged order, Mikaboshi fought to get the rage that clawed at this mind under control. He'd never felt anger so hotly before and it was all he could do to keep from tearing Sousuke apart right that second. It came as a complete surprise even to his venerable mind that he could experience such an emotion so intensely. He felt anger and outrage in a way that he'd never experienced before and beneath that... there was something else that he'd never felt before but could not put into words having so little experience with it.

"Humans. So much has been given to you and you don't even know it. Or if you do, you don't care. You don't see creatures like I once was as equals because we lack the right to Choose in the way that you do and for that we are as inanimate as stones to you.

As Mikaboshi seethed it would likely become clear to both Suna and Kazuki that he was no longer addressing Sousuke personally but rather humanity in aggregate. Or perhaps it had always been that way and Sousuke was just the proxy which had the unfortunate destiny of bearing the weight of Mikaboshi's outrage.

"And what's worse... the lives of those who don't follow with that perspective are worth even less than that."

"Humanity. Your reckless hatred took so much from me. My freedom. My kingdom. My people. My mercy." Mikaboshi's rant trailed off for a moment as if he'd forgotten momentarily what he'd been saying.

"Her." He said quietly as his extremely brief gap in lucidity passed and the expression that took over his face seemed to be hardened even further as a result if that were even possible. "Yes, there is much to be called to account for. And I assure you my former lord... your debts will be paid with interest."

With what appeared to be a casual toss by the thin but tightly muscled form that Mikaboshi had adopted the ancient lord tossed Sousuke's ragged form out through the wall that he'd shattered shortly after revealing his transformed state. Finally Mikaboshi turned his head to regard Kazuki. The expression that he wore was one of singular warning; interfere and I will break you as I did him. He said nothing to Kazuki but there was no need for words. The simmering anger reflected in his eyes was threat enough. And with that, Mikaboshi turned and attempted to walk out of the burning house that was quickly disintegrating around them. Once in the street where Sousuke lay on the ground, Mikaboshi's tail would coil around Sousuke's throat a second time before the transformed ancient's wings spread wide and then with a gust of wind and flame announcing his departure he would disappear into the darkness of the cavern with the Steward in tow.

Sousuke's last attack was an effort to free Kazuki from his icy prison. It was an effective attack, but only managed to create a crack on the solid bind. And an opening was all that he needed. The Overlord had been mustering the dark energies that allowed him to unleash his ultimate technique. The glow surrounding body intensified until a single fist emerged from inside the prison. This was no normal human hand though, but the bind suddenly exploded. As the icy dust settled down, something else, far different than the White Wolf, was revealed.. Skeletal hands and skeletal wings was all that was revealed. The rest of the body was concealed beneath a purple robe. The face was also shielded from view by a hood. The right hand firmly gripped a massive, sinister looking, scythe that was easily as big as the Silvery Haired Man. Unfortunately as soon as he had been freed, Sousuke fell down thanks to the combined assault from the two ancients. Mikaboshi then proceeded to further add injury to the fallen Steward by brutally beating him. Not content with that, the former ANBU Sennin practically kidnapped the Takahashi Highlord and fled the room. Before he did that, though, the Deep Lord Ancient stared at Reaper. Threatening him with the same kind of treatment if he dared to intervene, but the former Leaf Sennin was in a different wavelength now.

Kazuki, if it was Kazuki, was staring at Suna. In this new form, not only did his appearance change. All those strange phenomena that accompanied him, seemed to have been magnified several fold. Everything was so much intense, that even those immune would feel it, at least temporarily. Sousuke had always been not affected by it, but even the Purple Haired Man felt the chill, when the Overlord transformed near him. Reaper suddenly spread his wings and slightly raised his head. A large roar came forth from inside the hood. A roar so intense and terrifying that would probably make nearby civilians, piss their pants. "Stand down Kazuki. This is not your cause," Suna would reason with him. The White Wolf would lower his head again, upon hearing her voice. Shiori would be able to notice that his eyes, yes they could be seen now, were glowing purple. "You."he would declared as he pointed toward her with his scythe. "You have no idea what my cause is. Death owes no explanation to any mortal, even to Ancients. I answer to no one and I will reap mankind as I please." this alien creature, or the Silvery Haired Man, would state. The voice was also different. It had a lower tone, almost whispered. (Think the Witch King's voice from Lord of the Rings).

As soon as he had said that, Kazuki's body began to shift again. Dust elevated from his body as everything that made him alien began to vanish away. Once he had changed into his normal form, the Overlord dropped to his knees, wrestling for air. He was tired, very tired. Sousuke was gone by now. They had fought against two ancients and had lost. The power levels of their enemies were nothing but impressive. They never stood a chance against such mighty opponents. While Mikaboshi and Suna fought like a well oiled machine, the White Wolf and the Steward did not. To make matters worse, the Silvery Haired Man had been frozen solid throughout the fight, unable to assist the Takahashi Highlord. With him gone, there was no reason for Reaper to continue the battle. In fact, he did not think he could. His stamina was gone, washed away as the transformation faded. "Do you think you will be free if Mikaboshi kills Sousuke?" Kazuki said between breaths. Shiori had to realize this would mean war with no quarter. Regardless of their incredible might, the two living ancients would be slaughtered. "Sunagakure will rise against you and you will be hunted down." he continued as he got up to his feet again. "I had no quarrel with you and I still don't. But I ask you to go put some sense in your brother's skull." he noted as he dusted himself off. "You have won today, fair and square, but things will be different if we ever face each other again. You know I have an advantage the other guys don't. Their growth will become stale, but mine never will." the Overlord warned her as he cracked his neck. In the span of a few moments, Reaper seemed rejuvenated. Was that the legendary healing ability all Ancients had? "Talk some sense into Mikaboshi and flee the village. I will find you. We have a deal remember?" he remembered her as he prepared to leave.

OC
I surrender...but with style!

There was a transformation -- into a creature or perhaps a man she did not recognize. The boiling sands rushed in from every side, through forgotten and unseen cracks and crevices as if being pulled by an invisible current to this earthen sea. Suna's wrist flicked and the wall to the bedroom was broken asunder. She begged Kazuki to back down and to not raise his hand against her or her brother. There were so few of their kind left, it would be a travesty if one more had to be destroyed. A skeletal visage looked back at her, making the Senju a rather random-seeming man. She did not recognize the skeletal face that stared back at her, the form, the robes or the massive scythe in his hand but that was not an Ancient who looked back at her. She looked back at whatever he or it was knowing in all probability that Kazuki was unlikely a man, an Ancient and whatever this thing was.

"You... You have no idea what my cause is. Death owes no explanation to any mortal, even to Ancients. I answer to no one and I will reap mankind as I please."

Big words considering. Shiori did not shrink away or back down. Mikaboshi had already departed and he took with him the Steward, their fates unknown. "You are of no consequence, regardless of your form or the moniker you take. It is content that you... brother or not, lack." Tendrils of earth lashed out, cracking at the air. She would break him if she had to but she did not want to, the benevolent streak left in her would still not kill him but she would put him down, chain him up and know that eventually he would be found and she would be someplace else. If this skeletal face still looked back at his savior, he might wish himself dead. Humans had a habit of harming, imprisoning and taking from others what is not theirs.

Before her first tendril could strike, Kazuki reverted back to his human form. He fell to his knees, gasping for breath and with his descent the sands died as well. A still hush as even Shiori's melody had ceased entirely. She pulled the bedspread from the bed and tossed it over or at the very least in the general direction of the Senju. "You must be cold," she commented as she moved closer. "You should never have come," she added as she clapped her hand on his shoulder.

"Do you think you will be free if Mikaboshi kills Sousuke?"

"There is little that can be done for our sorry fate... I was dead the moment I thought that Sousuke harbored any sentiment for me," she admitted. She told him what she was, a risk she took because she did not want to continue to live a lie. Because there was a part of her and her nature that she would not be able to forever deny. She took these skins, or rather porcelain forms - stolen copies of people who once lived but were now devoured. Perhaps not in full, parts here and there that she could discern and she could replicate. "I was dead the moment I confronted him for what he had done to my brother," she added. He was there, he knew what she said and he saw the moment war was declared. "And... whatever you are is not human, so one day you too will share our fate. An ally, you might remain for some time. You feed his hubris and you are like his dedicated dog, unquestioning in your stalwart defense. But what will become of you the day you disagree, stand against, or he becomes paranoid of your intent? Do you honestly believe he would have more love for you than he would have for any of us."

"Sunagakure will rise against you and you will be hunted down."

She let out a breath in this ethereal form, it sounded like a whistle. "That they will, and their fortunes would be bleak," she mused. Kazuki pulled himself back up to his feet and Shiori would take a series of steps back. She had won the battle but a single lucky or opportune shot could change things for her.

"I had no quarrel with you and I still don't. But I ask you to go put some sense in your brother's skull."

"Sense?" She scoffed. "Humanity has already killed my children. My brothers. Toppled my kingdom and they occupy his. And with the passage of centuries they have ruled these lands uncontested, and woe... Humanity cannot preside over these lands, this country is on the brink of war. The Sunahoshi dynasty is nothing but ash, I could hear Daisuke's cries in the maelstrom. Humanity was the world's most invasive species, parasitic to an extend even. They multiply without consideration of the world around them and when they grow to excess they simply take from others - be it creatures, gods or men. "Humans hurt one another, often in the cruelest of manner and not always with cause. You saw what Sousuke had done to me,"</B><i></i> she reminded the former ANBU Sennin. She shook her head, <B>"humanity is the true monster... not I. So let them hunt me with their pitchforks and their torches, I will bury them all." She stopped just then and looked him in the eye. "And I tell you this only because we might share a heritage and there are so few that remain... I will bury you alongside them if you take their side in the coming war."

"You have won today, fair and square, but things will be different if we ever face each other again. You know I have an advantage the other guys don't. Their growth will become stale, but mine never will."

He conceded and a low rumbling laugh escaped from the creature of sand and sound. "Ancients are far more limited than they are credited for, but we have the advantage of time and a thousand lives to try and to fail or succeed. Humans live the life of a mayfly, so brief it is over in the blink of an eye. I have had a millennium to hone my skill, what could you and whats your have possibly had. A few decades? What do you have left?" The Senju was healing quickly, just as she already had. "Even half-starved, unpracticed and amnesic, you should see me after a decent meal." It was a threat, not against him but against humanity. She would eat and take her fill. She would scavenge and she would scrape if she had to and she would regain her form. Her strength and her vigor.

"Talk some sense into Mikaboshi and flee the village. I will find you. We have a deal remember?"

Suna sighed, "you are a man attempting to stand on two sides of a war... perhaps you should reconsider attempting to learn of your heritage and you should be more concerned about the reaper who resides." She was referring the the skeletal creature he had become only minutes earlier. "I know of no court that does such things." She was not going to stop him from leaving. She would not call him back. They were not allies, they were not even friends. Perhaps they were family, but nothing more. It was enough to stave her hand, this curiosity and this idle hope that she was less alone in this world. Yet she had no doubt that he would hunt her down. That he would be able to find her, he knew more about her than most humans did and he seemed to have the mental fortitude to do something about it unlike her former 'cousin.' He might even be what killed her, despite her arrogance and her posturing, there was a reason he was left inside that block of ice. It was not entirely that she feared for his safety or that there was a great enough sentiment that he might be a distant relation. No... it was the fact that if he was everything that he might be, he might not lose.
[Kazuki is Allowed to Leave Topic]

"I was dead the moment I confronted him for what he had done to my brother. And... whatever you are is not human, so one day you too will share our fate. An ally, you might remain for some time. You feed his hubris and you are like his dedicated dog, unquestioning in your stalwart defense. But what will become of you the day you disagree, stand against, or he becomes paranoid of your intent? Do you honestly believe he would have more love for you than he would have for any of us." Suna would warn him. It was a fair warning, one that he should listen to. But his mind was set and there was on quirky thing about his personality. He hated betrayers. He had killed people over it and he would do so again. "If that time comes, then is only one thing to do." he noted. "I...will...break...him!" the Overlord stated. Yes, he considered himself as a friend to Sousuke. The Steward had helped him before, just like Kazuki had done for the Takahashi Highlord. But his hand had been forced before, first against his father, then against is best friend. And today, it was the Fire Daimyo waiting for him. No one was exempt from it. The White Wolf could and would take up with allot, but he could never forgive or forget if you betrayed him. And he would go to the end of the world to see you pay for it.

"And I tell you this only because we might share a heritage and there are so few that remain... I will bury you alongside them if you take their side in the coming war." Shiori would warn him further. The Silvery Haired Man stared at her. Of that he had no doubt, but she also had to understand he would not stain his hand when the time came. Perhaps the Steward had a soft spot and was incapable of killing her, but the former Sennin had no such qualms. Suna knew he had to kill to acquire souls, Suna knew of his compulsion. Would he enjoy killing an Ancient? Perhaps. He had never tasted their essence and he was curious to know the feeling. But even so, he would not feel joy on killing her. But he would what he must.

"you are a man attempting to stand on two sides of a war... perhaps you should reconsider attempting to learn of your heritage and you should be more concerned about the reaper who resides." she spoke to him. Reaper shook his head. She did not grasp the reality. Sousuke knew of Kazuki's plan. He knew that the Overlord would ally with the enemy to fracture them from within. And that meant traveling with her. "I don't care if you are human, god, demon, ancient, or whatever creature a mad god created long ago. If you have a deal with me, I damn expect you to fulfill it. And don't start me on with the morals now. You and I never cared about the moral consequences of our actions. This is a matter of choice and consequences. I have made mine and I will deal with the fallout as it comes." the White Wolf told her. It was curious hearing her mention the reaper who resides. She was wrong about it. This form he had assumed did not belong to a spirit that was using his body as a vessel. There was no random chance of being controlled by it. How can one be controlled by itself? Was that his true form? Or just an alternate to his normal human form? Not even he knew, but Kazuki did know something. That was all him. "You are wrong. This form you have seen, it is still just me. There is no other spirit housed within my body that assumes such shape. Just like you and Mikaboshi have a true form, that might be mine. You have told me I am a potential hybrid. Perhaps I have more than human and ancient dna within me. Whatever it is, I intend to find out." he tried to explain her.

There was nothing else to say here, except for one thing. "Five days from now. At Godsfall. I will be there waiting for you. If don't show up, I will know we are true enemies and I will act accordingly. If you do come, then we will see how things go from then on. Your choice. Tenna' tanya coiasira."

She warned him,. She was once enamored by something she saw or felt in or through Sousuke. Despite aggression and transgressions she willingly resided alongside mankind ignoring her appetite and mourning her circumstance. Of course there was a passage of time during her coexistence with humanity where she thought of herself as human and perhaps that is where she gained these sentiments. Ancients truly had no affections for eachother or at the very least they took for granted their unchanging presence. Death and loss were only vague concepts that she could truly never grasp. When Godsfall took the lives of her kin, she watched with disinterest because 'death' was nothing more than a brief intercession. If asked today she would prefer to cite another narrative. It is easy to look back at the war and the battle that served as a turning point and claim that nature alone prevented her intervention because truth be told in a war of shepherds and lambs who would have thought that the shepherds could be defeated.

"If that time comes, then is only one thing to do. -- I...will...break...him!"

A half-smile crept over her countenance, barely discernible through the swirling nexus of wind and sand. It might be too late to worry about who might betray and who might break. The Deep Court Lord did not share her sentiments and the sins against him were greater than those she had suffered, She held her tongue, there was no need to incite him further or to prod his damaged pride.

I have made mine and I will deal with the fallout as it comes."

"It seems to me that you have already chosen a side. The wrong one."</I> Shiori empathised this distinction. She was toeing the line as it was in this war, taking this preemptive, offensive stance. Humanity repetitively and insistently destroys. Once his identity is known - be it man, beast, Ancient or demon, humanity will try to have a say in his fate. "Do you honestly think I would put my faith in you?" She scoffed. A consequence - yes, for his action and inaction.

"You are wrong. This form you have seen, it is still just me. There is no other spirit housed within my body that assumes such shape. Just like you and Mikaboshi have a true form, that might be mine. You have told me I am a potential hybrid. Perhaps I have more than human and ancient dna within me. Whatever it is, I intend to find out."

He insistedn. "What will it change at this point Kazuki? IF you are what I am, you will live and die alone. even in a room full of people, you will be alone because there will be none like you. You may claim that you are both but they will never accept you and you will be alone." It was a somber truth she knew all too well. Regardless of how close she felt, the commodity she fostered, the passions or the truths that she shared... There was no gesture of fidelity, of friendship; there was no hero's journey that could close the chasm that perpetually separated their kind. "I am the desert, the wind and the sand -- I represent... I am the desert. This is my true form, yes. Sand and wind and if you listen you can even hear my song. Do you truly think that what you saw was my brother's true form?" She nearly scoffed. The gaunt, pallid man that contorted into an almost demonic visage was not the Deep Court Loird but rather a perversion of the unfortunate human inside which he resided. "He is what he is made of," she explained cryptically. That said, Kazuki's form was of bone and thread. Shiori was still unclothed, not that she had the same concept of shame and nudity as humans did but the point was more that he was fully clothed in new clothes. "What element does your skeletal countenance represent? Just as I am the wind and earth and Mikaboshi is the darkness and the shade. What are you? The anthropomorphism of... death?"

"Five days from now. At Godsfall. I will be there waiting for you. If don't show up, I will know we are true enemies and I will act accordingly. If you do come, then we will see how things go from then on. Your choice. Tenna' tanya coiasira."

She did not answer, not for lack of words but rather for a lack of an answer. She did not know if she would meet him there. For all intents and purposes they were enemies on opposite sides of the same war. She was a creature of pride but considering her recent loses and debility she was not blind to the fact that she could be defeated. The problem was not one of ability or egotism but the result of her solitary plight. Humans could pick and chose their allies, betray those who lost their value or became a threat but for her there were so few. "Two weeks,"[/color[ she called to his back.

After he left she would fall to the floor and stare at these broken walls. She was ALONE once again. There was a time not long ago where she allowed herself the brief delusion that she was not alone, a fleeting instant of mindless passion that she would now be forced to abandon. She was ALONE once again.
