Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

[col]Psychiatric medicine is a Medic specialty that cares for people of all ages with mental illness or mental distress, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychosis, depression or dementia. Medics in this area receive more training in psychological therapies, building a therapeutic alliance, dealing with challenging behavior, and the administration of psychiatric medication. A majority of the Medics in Sunagakure have some experience with mental hygiene and illness due to the traumatic nature of their professions. A majority of the mental care performed in Sunagakure is performed in the Asylum. Perhaps considered archaic and even barbaric by some, many of those locked away in these rooms are not of the conventional 'troubled' kind but rather they are dangerous individuals who are utterly incompatible with society at large.

  • Bipolar: Bipolar disorder makes an individual switch between two main moods: [1] mania where the patient would experience strong or passionate emotions like happiness or anger and [2] depression where the patient would experience emotions such as sadness or guilt. Unlike the media interpretation, Bipolar disorder’s mood swings usually take a long time. Each swing lasts about a week on average, with a few days’ transition in between but variants exist. Bipolar has been known to cause psychosis in some patients and for this reason some have to be admitted to the Asylum if they suffer from a severe case, but for the most part it manifests in irrational actions, heightened emotions, and lack of sleep during mania; and tiredness, aches, and lethargy during depression.
  • Antisocial Personality Disorder: Also known as sociopathy and psychopathy. Individuals with this disorder either have no empathy, leading to no morals, or no emotion at all. The ones who have emotion, but no empathy, are extremely dangerous. They make excellent liars, are often charismatic, and feel no remorse for any harm they cause anyone. Their brains simply can’t make the connections to evoke empathy. Because of this, they can do terrible things without a care. As you might imagine, most Antisocial patients become involved in crime. A majority of serial killers have been diagnosed with this disorder. Some individuals, especially the emotionless ones, are able to fit in to society without causing any harm, but can never relate to people on the same level normal individuals can. Those who are a danger to society and those we fear may soon be a danger have been locked away in the Asylum.
  • Dis-associative Identity Disorder: Also known as DID, Split Personalities, or Multiple Personality Disorder, is a very severe disorder that we believe is caused by severe trauma. In Ninpocho, that is not always the case as demonic or spiritual possession might also come into play. In the end, the result is still the same -- an individual with this disorder will split his/her personality into two or three different identities and cycle between them. This disorder has also had a lot of media coverage but is very misunderstood. Individuals with this disorder rarely take on more than three identities, but two is most common and it’s almost impossible to make a patient aware that they have this disorder. These patients cannot live normal lives because they may switch identities at any point, sometimes staying an identity for years, sometimes for hours. While most are harmless, some have a propensity for violence when they take on a certain persona. Once those individuals have been identified, sadly they have to be locked away.
  • Schizophrenia: Is a loss of reality. Symptoms include inappropriate (or few) emotions, paranoia, obsession with media, false beliefs about the body, beliefs of being famous or powerful, auditory and visual hallucinations, and catatonia (a completely unaware and unresponsive state). Unmedicated schizophrenics can’t tell what is in their head and what is real, leading them to act strangely. There are different levels in the loss of reality, some are able to function normally for short periods of time or even indefinitely. Most medicated Schizophrenics are able to function completely normally, as long as they take medication every day. The disorder will never go away and skipping just one day of medication can jeopardize the patient’s sanity. The crime rates of schizophrenics are actually not as high as other disorders, but the individuals are much more troubled and much farther from reality. For this reason they are often not locked away but do often visit the Asylum for evaluation and health maintenance. It also allows the Asylum medics to keep tabs on these patients because if they miss a meet-up, they can be sought after and helped so they can remain in touch with reality.

Please note, these are real-life diagnosis' so please be sensitive when RP'ing about them.
Mental Conditions
Mental Illness is most often treated with medicine, but those housed within the Asylum are considered too broken to be treated with a placebo, an actual remedy or a few therapeutic words. As such, alternative and daresay 'barbaric methods of treatment have been considered. Many of those who have taken up residence in the Asylum are considered criminals, wards of the village or 'unwanted' by society as a whole and therefore have no advocate or protection (except for perhaps you dear reader).

Examples of Treatments Include:
  • Trepanation: A shinobi's life was not without its hazards. Between wars, drunken duels, and the occasional run-in with an inadequately Armatunk, it's no surprise that shinobi skulls sometimes have big holes in them. Not all holes are created with equal abandon. Sometimes a purposeful hole is drilled into a living person's skull in hopes that insanity is caused by demons lurking inside the skull. Boring a hole in the patient's head creates a door through which the demons can escape. While for the most part phased out as less invasive procedures were developed, the curious and the believers still continue this practice.
  • Hydrotherapy: water being a rare and valuable resource in Wind Country, it is no surprise that some obsess over water, feeling that it may have healing properties. Building off the idea that a dip in the water is often calming, attempts to remedy various symptoms with corresponding liquid treatments has been a hobby for some Medics. For instance, hyperactive patients got warm, tiring baths, while lethargic patients received stimulating sprays. Some doctors, however, are perhaps a bit too zealous about the idea, prescribing therapies that sounded more like punishment than panacea.
Rotational Therapy: Some believe that spinning around really really face can reduce mental congestion. (Pssst -- it just makes you dizzy and crazy, sadly some believe it still works).
Lobotomy: Based off the belief that mental illnesses were generally caused by problems in the neurons of the frontal lobe of the brain, this surgical procedure is still in practice. The procedure is simple and takes only a small dose of anesthesia to perform where a small ice pick is inserted into the brain through the eye socket and wiggled around a bit. It is their expectation and hope that with this procedure the mental maladies that affected the patient would be resolved. While it tends to have a calming effect, the functionality of the patient is less than desirable.
  • Electroconvulsive therapy: Also known as ECT, is a procedure, done often general anesthesia, in which small electric currents are passed through the brain, intentionally triggering a brief seizure. ECT seems to cause changes in brain chemistry that can quickly reverse symptoms of certain mental illnesses. Considered safe, but on occasion higher doses of electricity are administered with insufficient anesthesia, leading to memory loss, fractured bones and other serious side effects.
  • Classical Conditioning & Aversion Therapy: Also known as Operant Conditioning, this is considered by some to be a form of brain-washing used to treat mental illness but also to 'reform' criminals, better control problematic heirs in affluent families, among other things. The basic theory is to create a negative association to something one had either a neutral or even positive association with previous. Famous Example

[legend="Mission: Psychiatric Treatment"]Above listed is several common diagnosis's that Suna Medics commonly deal with. Certainly there are other ailments as well and while you complete your Asylum rotation it is your job to treat them all and then some. Feel free to think of your own psychiatric condition or embellish on these.

  • Rank: Variable. This can also be done by entering a thread with a player and treating a PC as well. While the player being treated will not get mission rewards, you as a medic may submit to the moderator staff of Sand a request for payment and as long as it fulfills the criteria of a GROUP self-modded mission, then you will be compensated as such.

Details: Treat at least one patient who enters the Omni Prime Medical center's Asylum. You will probably not sure them but you can at the very least make sure that they continue to get medical and mental care
[/legend]

[legend="Mission: Psychiatric Research"]Sometimes you just need a physically healthy person to work on to see what happens. Not too many normal, healthy civilians or shinobis will willingly give you consent for treatment, however you have an abundant supply of patients in the Asylum. There might be a bit of red tape involved and you might not be able to be as forthcoming as you desire but it is for the greater good, right?

  • Rank: Medic or Medic Captain, this can also be done with an MiT "learning" or assisting.

Details: Use an Asylum patient as a test subject for something. (Try to limit this to using them for something that is a part of your actual story so this less than ethical practice is not every week unless that is the kind of character you are using. After all, you are not being a 'good guy' here doing this.
[/legend]

[legend="Mission: Reconditioning"]We will not admit this, but sometimes we send sane people to the Asylum so that they can be retrained. This is a common practice among the ANBU as well and truly the only difference between the structures is the fact that your establishment is more sterile, pleasant and you have anesthesia. The process of reconditioning is more synomous with brain-washing but here in the Omni Prime we prefer the gentler, more professional term of 'reconditioning.'

  • Rank: Medic or Medic Captain, this can also be done with an MiT "learning" or assisting. This will be a self-modded group mission also if it is just a single medic with a PC player being 'reconditioned.'

Details: Recondition a patient. Upon success, you will have a mission success.
[/legend]|
This is Considered to be a Self-Modded Solo Mission
Important: Self-modded missions may be done twice in a week, however the second mission done yields half normal rewards. Players may also perform one mission with 2x the word count in order to gain the rewards of having done two missions. This still only yields half rewards for the second mission.

What Rank of Self-Modded Solo Missions can I perform?
  • A user may only perform a mission of their current OOC Rank or lower. This mission is considered to match the Rank of the Medic or MiT who performs the mission.

What are the rewards for Solo Missions?
  • This depends on the Rank your character is OC'ly. But the rewards are as follows:
    • D-Rank: 2,000 Yen
    • C-Rank: 2,500 Yen
    • B-Rank: 3,000 Yen
    • A-Rank: 4,000 Yen
    • S-Rank: 5,000 Yen

What is the required word count for this mission?
  • The word count is dependent on the rank of the mission you undergo. The word count minimums are as follows:
    • E-Rank: 250 Words
    • D-Rank: 300 Words
    • C-Rank: 350 Words
    • B-Rank: 400 Words
    • A-Rank: 450 Words
    • S-Rank: 500 Words

Someone else has already completed this entry, what now?
  • This entry is considered to be a repetitive entry, meaning that when this mission is completed, it will happen again someplace else. That is the problem with diseases and people catching them! So it is POK for multiple players to do this mission separately.

Can this be a group mission?
  • The answer is YES. Just look-up and follow all group mission rules, this can be a modded or a non-modded mission. As a group (modded or otherwise) mission, this can be used to count towards your Captain status.

I have completed my mission, what now?
  • Drop you mission off in character (IC) HERE.

I am not from Sunagakure but I am visiting and I would like to perform a solo mission listed, is that OK?
  • YES! While you are always welcome to join our community (and we do encourage it), leaving people out of the fun goes against the out of character spirit of this community. You can serve as a mercenary or a helpful foreigner and complete these missions as well, just keep it in character and drop your mission off at the office as listed above but re-linked HERE. Just be sure that you have gotten permission from your primary community.
