It had been a couple of been almost a month since she was placed into her position as Hokage. As much as it pained her, she knew it was about time to inform the public of what was happening, because, Umashi had no sign of returning soon. So far, the branches were running as per usual, but, a public statement needed to be made. Although she originally was going to do it immediately, Yomi pulled away from it, hoping that Umashi would come back and this whole thing would have been sorted by now. However, the days passed slowly and he was not back yet.
So, the newly instated Hokage was forced to do this. Asuka set up, as she always did, to have the public address in Kitsune Park. A stage was erected and podium with a microphone connected to speakers strategically placed around the park. Looking over her speech notes she shook her head and crumbled them up. This was not a time for word fancy turn of phrases and carefully crafted statements. She was hurting, and soon, a lot of people who also loved Umashi, would be hurt by the news. It was time for some straight talk, from her, to the people.
Asuka stood next to Tamashii on the side of the stage, watching as Yomi crumbled up the notes. She squinted before nudging the Sennin to alert him of what had just been done.
“She’s going to wing it…” Much like Yomi, her tone was even, yet more dry. But alas, there was nothing either of them could do because she was already standing at the podium, about to talk. Asuka looked up at him shaking her head. “I hope you’re ready to field questions.”Asuka knew what she had written for Yomi on the notes would not leave a lot of room for questions, but, a random speech? Not so much.
Before starting, Yomi would clear her throat.
"Good Morning,
“As a lot of you know, I am Yomi, Medical Sennin of Konohagakure. Today I am here to do my best to provide the public information relating to the status of the leadership within Konoha. Currently, The Hokage, Umashiashikabihikoji, has been missing from Konoha for over three weeks. The investigation, of his abrupt disappearance remain the villages top concern and The Office of the Hokage’s highest priority.
"While details of the investigation are classified, what I can say is that all branches, including Medical, have been working non-stop to determine what has happened, where our security protocols were lacking, and who is responsible for this act. Let me be 100 percent clear, Umashi, is not dead, only missing. Any allegations to the contrary will be not be tolerated in any way.
"In the meantime, Konoha still has too run. It still must operate, it still should function. The law states, that should the current reigning Hokage be unable to fulfill their duties in an abrupt manner such as this, leadership is passed down to a Branch Leader, and should they be unavailable, a Sennin that is not confined to a Branch. As a Branch Leader, the responsibility of Hokage has fallen to me.
"I once said, for those of you were in attendance for it, that I didn’t wish to only gather out of duty or in times of tragedy, and I meant it. While the news is solemn and brisk, make no mistake that the Will of Fire is strong within Umashi, as it is in all of us. If you feel low and cold now, let the Fire consume you and keep you warm. Do not let this news deter you, but, make sure that your Will of Fire burns so bright, it can light his way home so that the next time we gather this way, it would be in celebration.
"I know there might be some questions from the press or from anyone really, so, I will turn it over to Tamashii, Sennin and Special Advisor to the Hokage.
Yomi waved to Tamashii to bring him over to the podium to stand while Asuka moved to help Yomi off of the stage.
“I feel ill.” Yomi muttered as she walked down the stairs slightly dizzy from the speech. While she hoped it cleared the air, a large part of her wanted to die. This was not how she should've been spending her as a newly wed. The like of a shinobi was bloody and unfair. Asuka only nodded as she pat her back.
“I need…to sleep.” Asuka looked over the Hokage like a helicopter mom, as Yomi smoothed out her dress. Satisfied that she wouldn't pass out from, lack of sleep, poor eating habits, and pregnancy, she replied. "Fine, I'll have Ezo escort you home."
