Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The Lightning Bird is one of Kumogakure's ancient legends. The legend goes back to when the elements ruled the lands and people hid when they were angry. The Lightning Bird was said to visit the Thunder Mountains every four years, there it would perform its dance to attract the mate which would never come. Every four years during this dance it would bring with it terrible monsoon rains and the lightning would strike the earth with such power that avalanches the size of half a mountain would come down, rolling through sometimes half the continent and wiping out all who stood in its path. These would cause new hills, divert rivers, sometimes filling lakes entirely. It wasn't until Raiden reached maturity that it is said he went to the Thunder Mountains with the intent to do battle with the Lightning Bird.

What happened that day remains untold. The story instead says that Raiden was next seen at a nearby town. His expression like that of someone who had seen a ghost. He was gaunt and exhausted. He never told what happened in the mountains, but after that day there was never again another storm like those of old.

Sightings of the Lightning Bird still happen to this day. Yet since that day it is said by some that they see more than a single Lightning Bird. That now every four years when the storms come, those who are blessed enough to witness the creature, witness multiple.

Once every four years a storm hits the Thunder Mountains, at this time the number of pilgrams making their way to Raiden's Lookout increase in the hope to see the Lightning Bird for themselves. This year as part of Kumogakure's celebration of the first founding all shinobi interested in going in search of their own legendary creature are to gather at Dragon Tooth Pass. Even academy students will be allowed to take part in this event.

Once at Dragon Tooth Pass everyone will need to fill in forms so that the village is aware of who is outside the village on this quest. Once everyone is registered names will be pulled out of a box and people partnered up at random. When everyone has their search partner they will be able to head out into wherever they want in Lightning Country in search of a legendary creature.

There are no prizes for taking part in this event, except for the tale you may be able to tell should you be successful in your search.

[OOC: Post your character arriving at the location and filling in the form. You have until the 20th of September to post your desire in taking part. Post after this date can still take part, but you will be partnered up simply with the next person who joins the thread.

Once partnered up feel free to go and create a roleplay thread outside the village in search of a contract creature. Good luck!]

Kechi gave a cheeky grin as he watched everyone from his gate booth. He had purposely requested today for his guard duty, for reasons easy to explain...profit. Young and old alike gathered before the gates, chatting with one another as they prepared themselves for the journey. Off to see the Lightning Bird, if they were lucky anyways. Kechi himself had no desire to traverse the mountains, but the idea of finding the bird and selling a plume...that thought definitely intrigued. However, unless someone wished to pair with him, he would remain in the village.

Once enough people had gathered, Kechi waved some papers in the air. "Come one! Come all! Get your paperwork to pair up for this extravagant, once in a lifetime event! Only 100 yen for a page! It's a bargain realOW!" A swift smack from the other gate guard signaled that the shinobi wouldn't allow Kechi to swindle the masses. "Touchy. Touuuuuchy. Fine. It's free. But if anyone needs a partner, then come see me! My services are always available!" Kechi finished the rest under his breath. "For a price."

Today was a day that Ri actually wanted to get up early. This would probably be the only time he would ever WANT to do something as insane as this, but today was a special time. The Lightning Festival. Although he had only been to it one time before, he knew that it would be the perfect time to go around town and drink his heart out. Of course, that wouldn't be until later in the day, but why not participate in some of the events they have set up to get him excited for what was to come? One thing that interested him was the one based around the Lightning Bird from legend. Maybe it was unlikely, but it seemed like this was going to be a pair of people getting sent out to hopefully find a contract beast. He'd read about those things, mythical creatures that will form a sort of contract with humans they favor. Ri is already able to use several advanced elements, so how bad ass would it be to have some powerful creature to add on to that?

The shinobi remembered you were supposed to meet by the village's gates, and that's where you'd be partnered up to begin your search. He grabbed something to eat from his home's kitchen, which he hadn't done in forever, and made his way out the door so he could get to the first event he planned on visiting. It took him about half an hour to finally reach his destination, and it already seemed packed. "Man, didn't think it would be this popular..." He mumbled to himself. One of the gate guards made an announcement around the time he arrived, and after the procedure was explained, he went up to collect one of the one-day passes.

After he finished filling the form out, he approached the same gate guard that made the announcement and handed him the slip of paper. "I'll assume that you're the one I give it to after I'm done." He said. Ri would stand there for a moment to make sure he wasn't doing something wrong, then walk off to the side of the crowd to wait for the pairs to be made. Hopefully he wouldn't end up with someone he would end up hating...

Shin cracked his neck as he walked towards the village gates. He had done a patrol early in the morning and had been looking forward to participating in the event since it hand been announced. To go after such a contract would be a worth challenge of his skills. Having a chance to go up against something that had even made Raiden struggle against was clear worth investigating. Of course had would have to find such a creature first, and Shin had a feeling that it wouldn't be an easy task. He eyes strained slightly at the morning sun as he began popping his hands joints as he ready himself for the event.

As the shinobi finally reached his distination, he took notice of the crowd that was beginning to build near that gates. It was a logically turnout, that more people he participated in hunt, the area of search for the bird would be narrowed down. It would also be helpful to learn of the different shinobi within in the village, giving him a way of planning on how best to use each other abilities. Walking forward, he grabbed one of the passes and began filling out the paperwork.

Finishing the paperwork, he walk to one of the guards and handed it to them. Once he found a location with a small amount of people, he began waiting for others to arrive.

Today was a special day in the Cloud Village and Yuu was completely excited for this. He heard about the Lightning Bird when he was still a kid and now, he has a chance to find this creature as his Genin privileges allowed him to have a pass to leave the village for a while. With his promises to his family that he will be back safe and sound, Yuu then ran straight to the Dragon Tooth Pass and didn't hesitate to stop by at the booth first. As per the rules of the village, he needed a pass to leave the village for any missions and leaving without a pass considered them as missing, so he didn't want that.

When he arrived at the booth, he was completely surprised at how many people at the gate who wanted to see this mythical Lightning Bird. "Wow, I can't believe at how many people wanted to see the Lightning Bird so bad. Regardless, I won't miss this chance!" After the guards announced the procedures and about the one-day passes, Yuu then filled out his paperwork to earn one of them.

Amegatsu was completely frustrated today, for he considers himself an artist and yet he cannot display his art in the one show he qualifies for in this festival. These were the days he wishes he was genin again. To participate in a show in which he can display his work with snow and ice. Amegatsu desperately needs something to get his mind off of this afternoon’s event. Perhaps this hunt for this legendary bird would spark some inspiration for the Lightning Show. As of yet he has no Idea what he will be doing.

Kou managed to arrive at the gates of Cloud where people seemed to be gathering for some reason, weirdly he was in a much better state that the he was when he first stepped on land. He made his way towards the gates where a small booth stood and people lining up, fetching a piece of paper and filling them in and whatnot before handing them out. Surely he was an outsider and he would definitely stand out of the crowd, hopefully these people aren't the type to bite strangers but he never did had many plans other than visiting Cloud and wasting time, guess fate had other plans and that plan was to make his life a bit more exciting.

He lined up with the others and as the queue started moving forward, he could feel that he might be in the wrong place, but people were pretty much excited so maybe he's just feeling nervous. Right at the moment he was next, he quickly nabbed a piece of paper before quickly retreating behind the crowd, hoping nobody saw him - not that it would make him suspicious or anything. He took out the paper and it read:

A sign-up sheet for some event of some sort and a few information required in the paper already disqualifies him from entering, he didn't want to forge it or make up information, he wouldn't definitely try something stupid to get himself killed while in the territory... but it wouldn't hurt at least try and hopefully get in.

Taking out a pen, he started writing down his information into the blank form. A few thoughts and whatnot, he was done and it did take him a while to fill it while for such simple information. He started looking left and right for other people before approaching the booth once more and handing the piece of paper with the hopes of being accepted.

One thing did bother him, though if ever things go to flight and everything was fine, he had no idea what business he's getting into and maybe someone could shed some little light on the things that are about to happen to him.

Dressed as if a cardboard cutout of the Kumogakure Academy Magazine, if only she was pretty enough, the Auburn girl stood waiting with the slip of paper on a wall and a pen in her hand. The paper only required a little information and she would be given a partner and a place to go to. Two issues hit her mind, the first was how stupid it was for her to risk someone else’s safety by bringing her along and the second was that she was really only doing this so she could meet someone and maybe form some kind of a remote understanding of one another.

Her hand, however trembling as it was, wrote down everything it was that she would need to state and then simply turn it in right or wait…did she need to hold onto it? Panic was already starting to form onto her brow.

Calm down little bird…remember one thing at a time. First let us actually write down everything that she needed. She brushed away the few red strands of her shoulder length hair out of her face and finished writing everything down.

She had to draw a heart…the word death was in this thing! What if there was trouble or she simply was too slow! She simply saw it now. The Raikage looking down on her and smiting her where she stood because she was scared and camped out over night or was a few minutes late. The man was really scary…

She folded up the paper nicely. She gave a small weary smile and attempted to look as useful as possible given her situation. Maybe someone would actually enjoy having her around.

|Akane walked up to dragon tooth pass, this was her first time participating in this event in any form. She had a little more courage this time around after all. She had heard that the lighting bird brought thunder storms, which always made her weary of even trying to see it. This time though, they were granting access to go out and find a contract, which was something she was eager for, even though she tried not to show it. She had her hair down, under a cute hat. She wore her winder clothing, a black peacoat, a white skirt, and a pair of hiking boots. She had on a back pack, it held various items, including a change of clothing. She had her crimson blade at her side as well.

Akane walked up to the booth to grab one of the papers to fill out, then walked away with a pen to do so. As she was filling it out, she wondered who else was there, he noticed some people she recognized, others she didn't. She noticed that they would be partnering up with others. She didnt see her two best friends there, but they could be out of sight. So if she had to choose between the two... She wasnt really sure. She could see Kun anytime, but if Yoshi was there, she didnt see him much at all. She was kinda still mad at him for brushing her off, instead of explaining to her. But she wanted to spend time with him. So if he was here, or if he was on his way, she'd know she would want to partner with him.

Akane was puzzled for a moment, as she was not sure if she should write all three names in her signature. She refused to give up the Tsukino name, but out of respect for her father accepted both Shinrya, and Tsukino names. So it took her a moment of thinking before she handed the in the forum. She believed this to be a free event, so she did not pay any cash.

after that, it was the waiting game. Maybe she would speak to a friend, but she was a little anxietous. She knew it was only legend, but what if the lighting bird came, and brought a thunderstorm? She had nowhere to hide here, and even after the four years of training with Junko, she didnt face that fear. She somehow was also able to keep her fear a secret from them, as far as she knew, they didnt know. Akane sat on a rock, and waited.[/col]

Riku had heard the announcement of the upcoming Lightning Festival and the events taking place. Last time these events occurred Riku wasn't allowed to participate as he was too young. Not too mention he was out on a boat with his father helping the fishing business. But now the child had grown to the ripe age of 15 and as a Genin he wouldn't work with his father anymore. Instead, Riku planned to make the most of the festival to be.

Donning a fancy black and green kimono, Riku seemed to be without his shinobi tools. A rare feat for him. However, his weapons pouch was merely attached to his belt on the inside of his kimono. A fishnet shirt and black slacks that only went down to the hallway point between his knees and ankles were worn underneath the garment. The boy was currently in a phase of being fashionably dressed with a kimono over his shinobi battle ready outfit. Really, it was the oversize sleeves. Twirling around with his arms out just looked so cool.

Only ever leaving the village to take part in missions, Riku was excited to be part of a fun event outside the Kumogakure walls. The boy approached the Dragon tooth pass ready for a great adventure. Standing in line he awaited his turn to take an entry form and fill it out according. It was only a small amount of information so it wouldn't take him long to finish it and turn it in. When completed, Riku handed the form back to the guard he received it from and stretched his arms to limber up. "Let's get this show on the road!" The boy exclaimed excitedly.

Deciding that this was something he needed to at least show his face at, Akira turned up at the gates in his standard travel gear. Padded leather armour covered his torso and fur lined trousers kept out the cold. The massive sword on his back told that he was ready for anything with regards to what could happen outside the village. He wondered where he would go, though knew already who he was going to partner up with.

In a way he felt excitement. It had been a long time since someone had taught him something. So to begin his mednin training was going to be interesting to say the least.

Waving to a few people he recognised he took one of the forms and filled it in.

Arriving on the scene, the crowd was above what The two had expected. Junko wore his usual attire while Yoshi was dressed in the standardized Anbu armor. Equipped to the highest degree, the Tsuyoshis were ready for the journey ahead.

Luckily, Yoshi didn't have to hide his identity. Sensing Rose nearby, he could finally apologize and set things straight. A part of him felt bad by the way he had to do his girlfriend. His girl. maybe just his friend, Or future girlfriend if you're thinking outside the box.

After greeting a few individuals, the two approached the registration table. After signing the document, it was time for the two to part ways. "Alright Yoshi, be safe. Tell Rose I said the same. I have a new student that I'll be traveling with today."

Giving a nod and a wave, Yoshi parted ways to search for Rose. Meanwhile, Excitement was spilling through Junkos pores and every minuscule cell in his body. His new student was a veteran of battle. It would be interesting to see how'd he perform.

A pilgrimage to the mountains, it had been some time since Kin had been able to set foot in a place of worship. He grew up in a temple and life in the barracks was not the same; the worship of raiden became the worship of the kage, the art of prayer and cleaning were replaced with killing and reconnaissance. There is a peace of mind that lets time slip away within such a simple life, something Kin's mother had denied him once he was sold. Since he was shipped to the main village he hadn't had any sort of communication with his mother, perhaps by choice of the state or maybe her choice had severed said tie. In any case this trip to the mountains may be something Kin could use to reconnect to his younger years and if he was lucky, he might even be able to slip back to his home village.

[col]Gathering at the gate with a pack of food to sustain him for a few days and his combat gear the young shinobi made his way to the registration table. Taking the form and filling it out as best he could he quickly covered up his head with his helmet after his identity was confirmed with the gate guard. Setting up to head out he sat near the gate, waiting to be partnered off so that he may have the village's blessings to leave. Thinking about it Kin debated how likely he would be to see the legend. Kin figured the thunder bird, being a religious symbol, would only appear to those of faith. His body shuttered as he thought and it struck him, for the first time in a long time, he would see the outer walls of the village. Perhaps he would find the bird of lightning, maybe he could make a stop at the nearby temple, or perhaps he could escape away for a short trip to see his mother. Only time would tell and his partner might be an obstacle if he wasn't one to pray or care for family ties.|

The Lightning Bird, huh? One of the great legends of Kumogakure, and one of the rarest sights in this part of the world. Everyone knew the legends about the fabled bird, but only a handful had ever been able to claim to have actually seen the living legend. Many people dismissed the tales as just that, not wanting to believe in what they considered to be a fable. Others really did believe the rumors, and gathered every four years to maybe spot the mythical beast. As for Kotsuko? Kotsuko was a man of science, reason, and calculated logic. Did he believe the rumors? As he walked through the crowds, making his way to the sign-in sheet, the young white haired lad turned to look at his audience, addressing them as he occasionally would. "The question isn't whether I believe in such things, as whether I consider the possibility of its existence overpowering to my great skepticism of the tales. In this case, I'd rather it exist than not. Unfortunately for me, wanting things to exist doesn't always make them be so." With such a cryptic answer given, the white eye's man pushed through the last of the crowd to grab his own sign in sheet. He was terse with the man giving out the papers, who seemed to be one greedy little man. "You really expect us to pay for those? Give me a break." Kotsuko would have smacked the man himself if the other guard hadn't. Kotsuko picked up one of the sheets without even a second word to the cat-eared man, completely ignoring his weird anatomical anomalies on top of his head. Moving his hand over one of the pens, he seemed to pick up the instrument without even grabbing it. Strange.

Dropping the pen back onto the table, the young man looked to the cat-eared man again with a look of reluctance. He didn't really want to keep talking to this greedy little weirdo, but he seemed to be the one responsible for filling out the forms. "And we just give it back to you, then? Or are you going to charge us a Collecting Fee, as well?" Electing merely to drop the form off with the anomalous man, Kotsuko looked around into the crowd. There were a lot of faces he knew here, and a lot of faces he didn't know as well. Seemed like everyone wanted their chance to catch the Lighting Bird in action. A breeze slipped through into the crowd, making the young man very glad he'd elected to dress warmly. A heavy dark brown jacket covered another few layers of dark grey clothing underneath, and a gray scarf covered his neck to keep him nice and warm. Thick brown boots wrapped up over his beige pants, and it looked like a few things were hanging from his belt near the back of his waist. If one was able to get a close enough look, they seemed to be about eight to ten gourds attached to his waist with a charcoal colored cloth. On the cloth was printed white the symbol of Kumogakure. The young man was definitely well prepared for this excursion.

Moving off to the side of the large crowd, Kotsuko decided he'd simply wait until they would begin. He lit a cigarette as he sat down on a nearby bench, inhaling the fumes and watching as the thin smoke dissipated into the air above him. He leaned his head back to look at the dark grey clouds forming above them. Would they per chance find the mythical Lightning Bird? Who knows. All Kotsuko knew is he wanted to be around if it happened.

[ooc: Topic Entered. Note, I don't actually want to go solo. That's just something Kotsuko would write.]

Kechi motioned for everyone to drop off their forms, shuffling them into a pile as they did so. However, his eyes caught sight of a name he was supposed to remember...Kotsuko. Luckily he was already grinning like a fool, or he would have giving away his glee at seeing the name. He wiggled his eyebrows at the white-haired lad. "You know me sooooo well! I'm sure destiny will pair us up for sure!" He pocketed the page in secret, and turned away from the crowd as he filled out his own page, making sure to include a certain youth's name as he did. Slipping that paper into his pocket as well, he flung the sheets into the air. He spun and swayed, collecting them two at a time. It was a rather silly way to pair people up, but Kechi wanted it to seem as random as possible, which it was...for everyone but him and Kotsuko that is.

Once all the sheets were coupled, he slipped his and Kotsuko's pages into the mix. He cleared his throat loudly. "The pairings have been decided through a completely showy and random action." He gave the crowd a toothy grin before continuing. "When I call your name and your partner, raise your hands so you can see each other, unless you already know your partner, in which case it would be rather silly and you don't have to but hey, it's your search party and you can raise your hand if you want to so be my guest." It was impressive the way the Tanuki could prattle on like that with only one breath. "Once you have your partner, you may leave at your discretion. Here we go!" He read out the names:
Shita Rirakkusu & Kurogane Shin

Kashino Yuu & Yagiyo Kin

Shikame Amegatsu & Yoshida Kou

Kaido Chiasa & Santaru Riku

Tsukino Akane & Tsuyoshi Yoshino

Saito Akira & Tsuyoshi Junko

Sasaki Kotsuko & Tanuki Kechi

With all the pairs declared, Kechi hopped over his booth and plopped onto the bench beside Kotsuko. "Told you so. We were fated to be a comedy duo. I call the straight man! Heeheehee!" After his chuckling, he leapt from his seat and spun to fully face Kotsuko. "No time like the present, am I right? Right." He held his foot out, as if he was about to step towards the gates. However, he kept it hovering over the ground, waiting for his new partner to follow.

[Topic will be left with Kotsuko]
Tada! The pairings! Go ahead and post meeting your partner and heading off into the sunrise in search of magical creatures! Remember to mark your started topic out of the village as a dual contract search! (or a contract mod won't know to help you out) Also remember to follow the rules contract searching found ->Here<- (there is a specific section on dual contracting, so definitely make sure to check that out)

A reminder that people may still enter the topic and participate in this event. However, you will be paired with the next person to enter. (Faceless Gate Guard Number 5 will pair you up and send you out)

Have fun everyone!!!

Osu was very excited for today. The Adventures of Raiden had been his favorite picture book series as a younger child (the books are currently hidden behind some medical texts in his bedroom). Raiden, more than any other shinobi, had been an adventurer. There were few things more exciting to a kid than a legendary adventurer, which was more appealing than a god. Osu on the other hand was not the adventurous type, he was hesitant, careful, not all that brave or strong, only a little smart and had confidence issues from time to time. Osu knew he was more similar to one of Raiden's companions that he met on his travels than he would ever be to Raiden himself. Still, maybe if he found his own contract that he could connect with he might be a bit more like a hero.

The fact was he knew that if he was to take this adventurer thing seriously he needed to find someone who acted without thinking, rushed willingly into danger, strong, smart and heroic. Mochizuki Tama possessed at least half of those requirements which was good enough for Osu. Now he just needed to hope maybe some of that adventurer-like spirit of hers would rub off on him. Of course what he didn't expect was that they might be running late. According to the flier he had they had more time but he had been informed it was a misprint. Putting on his headset Osu began speaking urgently into it. "Tama they are already sending people out! We gotta get going if we want to make it to Moon and back before the day is up!" Upon arrival he nearly knocked the guard over in the rush to fill out his pass information and began waiting bouncing on the balls of his feet for Tama to show and to make a mad dash out of there.

The crowd was larger than expected, but everything seemed to move in slow motion for Yoshi, but that's how things always was. People were just too slow. It took awhile, but through training in a void for a few years, the young seikon realized that it was because of his bloodline abilities. He was unique, which was probably another reason he was recommended for the ANBU corps of kumogakure.

Yoshis eyes shifted from individual to individual. He could feel Akanes presence and her chakra. By the feel of it, it was still gentle, but dense. she'd grown stronger. That was for sure. In a matter of moments, a single gap revealed itself in the crowd. In this gap, Akane stood wearing a white shirt, a nice hat, and stunning boots. Everyone seemed to fade as Yoshis eyes and heart seemed to only focus on Akane. A sun-Ray seemed to burst from the sky and illuminate her beauty.

Was she an angel from heaven? If she wasn't, it surely seemed like it. Yoshis jaw wanted to drop as the single moment lasted so long. Curse his bloodline ability to receive things slower then what they were. Soon, the gap closed as reality shifted back to normal. Exhaling, Yoshi shook his head. "Genjutsu is as strong as ever." Yoshi thought chuckling a bit.

Making his way over, he placed a hand on her left shoulder. "There's my partner. Shall we be on our way Rose? Can't wait to catch up." Yoshi said with a smile. A gust of wind blew his yellow hair to the side. If she'd notice, he'd seem taller, a bit more muscular, and a bit more grown up overall. As always, his soft blue eyes gave her eye contact. The adventure ahead would be one to remember.

Akane had been spacing out, she snapped out of it when she felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned to see it was Yoshi. She was still mad at him, she didn't let go of things easily, but she would never let her to not spend time with someone she wanted to spend time with. She had a problem with grudges, she could stay mad at someone for a long time, and the only way for her to forgive someone over minor things was for them to apologize to her. "Glad to see you Yoshi." she stated, she was stuck between mad, and happy, it made her sound not so excited. She was, this was her firs time leaving the country, as she planned traveling to another country to get the beast she wanted. She gave Yoshi a charming smile, though she noticed he was noticeably taller than her. She wondered why everyone else grew tall so fast.... was she going to be stuck short forever?

And so they left on their journey.

Tama had her form ready, her absurdy long braid flapping heroically in the wind as she stood atop one of the tents in the Mochizuki compound. Ah yes this will be a day to remember, another legend to add to my memoirs, another title to add to my introductions, the young woman mused silently whilst a goofy smile was plastered upon her face. In fact, so wrapped up in her title-making and delusions of grandeur that she failed to notice the time for the event start had already passed. It wasn't until the melodious (yet worried) tones of Osu-chan's voice floated over the radio waves to Tama's headset that she realized what time it actually was.

"Ahahahahaha! Right you are Osu-chan!" the chuunin laughed to hide her own panic at the lack of punctuality she was exhibiting currently. "But heroes always arrive fashionably late! Or was it heroes are never late, nor are they early, they arrive precisely when they intend to? Anyhoo, we'll be fine, Osu-chan, I think...," the chuunin trailed off nervously at the end. Despite rushing to the gates quickly, she was worried about who might be running this event, and whether or not they would be allowed to join. But Tama dismissed that thought right away, she was Mochiuki Tama, whether or not she was allowed to join, she was joining. And dragging Usa, er Osu-chan with her.

She didn't stop running as she neared the gate. She simply tossed the form into the stack that had been collected and called out behind her, "What'cha waiting for Osu-pyon? Let's skedaddle!"

The cold, still air was incredibly soothing on the young man's skin. As he sat on the bench, still staring up into the clouds as he puffed out mouthfuls of white smoke, he listened to the hum and tune of the crowds' conversation. Some were discussing old memories, others were making dares about who would find the bird first, and still more were wondering how long until the event was supposed to start. Kotsuko was wondering the same thing, though it seemed that none of them would really have to wait long at all. In no time, the cat-eared little swindler got up onto a table and began to cry out above all the white noise around them. He began to explain the rules of this little event to everyone, and then began to call out names. It was a rather long process, as there were easily dozens of people who had shown up, but eventually Kotsuko heard his own name called. When he did, though, his eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. "Tanuki Kechi?" Kotsuko was trying to think through who that might have been for the next few moments, until suddenly the cat-eared goofball landed right in front of him. His tone was overly energetic, and his mannerisms were positively zany. As Kotsuko laid back in his seat, looking the man up once or twice, he thought to himself about the situation. What were the chances he had actually gotten paired with this man, after his earlier statement. Kotsuko narrowed his eyes at the man.

"I don't believe in fate." And with that, Kotsuko picked himself up off the bench. Still holding the cigarette in his lips, the young man dropped the little stick onto the ground, and then stamped it out with his shoe. His eyes were cold and without mercy as he spoke again to his new partner. "Let's get going. We'll head to the Thunder Mountains — we'll have the best chance of finding one of these beasts there." And so, without any other words, Kotsuko began out towards the gates. He wasn't sure if he liked this situation or not. There was no way that the two of them got paired together by pure luck. He wished he'd been paying more attention to Kechi's activities, as he might have been able to tell whether or not he was up to something. He'd just have to keep his guard up, and see whether he was anything to worry about. Hopefully Kotsuko was just being overly cautious, but you never know these days. Who knew what sort of evil might be lurking around every corner?
