Amy stood in front of the Rat Tail Inn and rolled her eyes a little before pushing the door open and stepping inside. She had stepped into a haze of smoke and she coughed a little before pulling her long red hair over her shoulder and covering her mouth with it. Squinting her emerald eyes through the fog, she spotted the bar on the other side of the long room and started toward it. The soles of her speed boots made hardly a sound as she crossed the room, passing rickety tables and uncomfortable looking chairs. The patrons of the bar turned to look at the teenager strode past them with her bright crimson hair and violet samurai-styled armor. On her hips swung two swords; one was a golden-hilted, ruby encrusted broadsword with a shining steel blade, the other, a blue tinted scimitar with a hook in the end, both sword’s blades glittering dangerously in the dim light of the bar.
Finally reaching the bar, the young shinobi placed her hands on the edge – this looked a bit odd as the girl only came up to chest height with the tall counter. “Excuse me, is the owner here? I was asked to come by to take care of your cellar problem…” Her voice, as it always did when she was in business mode, held an extreme amount of authority, and she was careful not to say that there was a rat problem in front of the patrons. Naturally she was used to omitting such details in the middle of a business as she ran one herself.
The bartender, a gentle looking middle aged woman with broad hips and heavy breasts, sauntered over and smiled, “I’m the owner dear, follow me, my husband can get you started.” With that, she lifted the gate to the bar and allowed the redhead to pass through before leading her through a door and down a short hall to another door that stood ajar. There was a rotund man with salt and pepper hair sitting at a large, wooden desk with a pair of reading glasses on and a pile of papers strewn across the surface. “Dear, this is the shinobi we asked for to take care of the cellar.” She said, placing a gentle hand on Amy’s shoulder before turning to look at her. “Thank you, by the way for not mentioning rats out there…we’ve been so worried people would find out.”
“Oh, it’s second nature for me, I run my own business. I’m Suchiru Amejisuto, of Suchiru Arms, at your service.” Amy smiled widely at this, extending a hand to the woman before she turned to face her husband. “So, rats in the cellar is it? I think I can help you out…and I was already briefed on the, er…special traits of these rats. However, I’ve come prepared as I’m sure you can tell,” she gestured to her swords with a fond expression on her face, “and I’m sure you’ll find I’m more than qualified to take care of the problem.” Amy smiled widely, the owners grinning a little as though they found her confidence cute. Swallowing back the desire to inform them that she was serious and if they thought she was cute that they should follow her down into the cellar and see just how ‘cute’ she was, she continued, “Now, show me where this cellar is and I’ll get started.”
The man pushed himself to his feet and grabbed a cane from where it was leaning against the wall and led Amy out into the hallway. His wife gave him a quick kiss before heading back to the bar, her voluptuous hips swaying back and forth as she walked. The rotund man cleared his throat and shook his head out a little as he tore his eyes from his wife’s back and looked at the teenager. “Okay, right this way.”
He led her into the next room where there were crates of alcohol and bags of bar food plus a door to a walk in fridge. Back in the corner behind some crates were two wooden doors in the floor with a large chain and padlock on them. Amy looked down at this and bit her lip. Just how intelligent were these rats? Surely not to the point of being sentient…
The man squatted down, his knees popping slightly as they bent. Pulling a key ring from his pocket, he unlocked the lock before pulling the chain off and opening the doors. Beneath the doors was a stone staircase, leading down into a room with packed sand walls. “Alright, not a problem…” Her voice was a bit smaller than normal as she looked down into the dim cellar and the man turned his gentle eyes on her.
“I’m sure they wouldn’t have chosen you for this if they didn’t have complete confidence in your abilities, dear.” He said comfortingly with a smile as he placed his strong hand on her shoulder.
“Thank you, sir.” She said, patting his hand before she reached down and crossed her arms to draw her swords. “I’ll take this from here, don’t you worry.” Her voice held the confident authority once again as she looked up at him with a smile. “Lock the doors again behind me, I’ll get your attention somehow when I’m done…I don’t wanna scare any of these suckers up into your bar.” She finished with a wink before heading down the stairs.
At the bottom of the steps, the redhead stepped into a small room with crates and barrels stacked in the corners, it was lit with dim chakra crystal torches, a few of which had gone out. She made a note to let the owners know about that detail once they had control of their cellar again. Across the room was a wooden door that was held shut with a rickety wooden chair from the bar wedged under the doorknob. Chuckling a little as she heard the chain being wrapped around the handles to the cellar door above her.
Crossing the room she sheathed her blades for a moment before removing the chair and drawing her blades again to open the door and step into the next room.
This was a long hallway with even dimmer lighting than the first room. Squinting a bit to see if anything was in the room, she took a few steps forward before her ankle touched something thin, something like wire, and she tripped, falling forward onto her stomach with a gasp. Just then a loud rumbling could be heard as a large, round stone boulder began to roll down the hallway.
Amy's emerald eyes widened as she rolled to the side, pressing her body as tightly into the corner between the wall and the floor as she could. The boulder passed right over her but smashed through the door to the first room. Her breathing a little heavy as she stared at the ragged hole where the boulder had smashed through she stayed in her position for a moment before pushing herself to her feet. "Soo...this may be a problem.." she muttered to herself, staring down the hall before she walked to the nearest chakra sconce and pulled the small chakra crystal out before feeding a bit of her own chakra into it to relight it, creating somewhat of a torch for herself.
Holding her light out so that she could check the floor and walls carefully before proceeding down the hall. It seemed the rats had set up tripwire and different intervals and heights all the way down the fairly long hallway. There were also doors along the way that presumably led into more storage rooms. Sighing a little, Amy slipped the chakra crystal into her belt so that it still could lend her its light and re-sheathed her swords and tied them to her thighs. Stepping back a few steps, Amy focused on where she had seen all the tripwire, and hoped that she hadn't missed any in her inspection, before curling her body down to begin a series of flips and rolls that brought her all the way down the hall to hop up onto her feet in front of another wooden door.
Taking her blades back out, she turned the doorknob slowly, trying to stay quiet, but halfway through the rusted metal let out a squeal and she threw the door open to see three large rats that stood on their hind legs but hunched over and speaking in squeaky voices, each of them carrying a makeshift club.. All three turned to face the redhead and squeaked even louder before they moved forward to attack. Amy blinked a couple of times, dumbfounded as she looked at the slightly humanoid rats before she moved forward, trying to remember that she needed to capture these things.
The first one to reach her received a crack on the head from the pommel of her golden sword - it dropped unconscious to the ground. The second rat-man took a kick to the belly and few across the room to hit a barrel and break it open as he was knocked out. The third rat backed away slowly, dropping his little club as Amy grabbed him by the hackles and dropped it into a large barrel before picking up a few heavy sacks and placing them around it to keep it upright.. "That should do it, I think...but, I better put the other two in there too in case they wake up." Walking over to the first rat, she grabbed it and dropped it into the barrel before walking over to the broken barrel and rat-man. She picked him up as well before spotting a few gold pieces glittering in the bottom of the otherwise empty barrel. "What? Who keeps their gold in barrels?" She questioned, shaking her head a little before depositing the last rat in the barrel and sealing it off with a sack lid.
Turning toward the second door in the room she walked over and spotted a small hole in the door. Lifting up on her toes a little, she peeked through the hole and saw the biggest rat she had ever seen. It was about three feet tall and also stood up on its hind legs, though this one was carrying a dagger and had bits of leather wrapped around him creating some makeshift armor.
Her eyes wider than ever, Amy dropped back to flat feet and shook her head. What the hell were they experimenting on over at that research center?! Gripping her blades more firmly, she pushed open the door quickly and ran over to the creature. It tried to block her attacks but wasn't really able to keep up, so Amy did a quick flip over him to catch him off-guard before bringing the pommel of her scimitar down on the top of his head with a crack. He dropped like a ton of bricks and Amy Grabbed his pink foot to drag him into the other room.
Luckily, she had thought ahead and borrowed another one of Tama's contraptions and was prepared to transport three large rats and a monstrous one through a bar and across the city. First, she took the two unconscious rats out of the barrel and placed them with the one large one, then, she reached down into the barrel for the third, still aware, rat but received a bite instead. Curling her hand into a fit she brought it down on his head to knock it out as well before removing the limp figure from the barrel and putting it with its brethren. Then, reaching into a pocket, she pulled a small golden cube out and pressed her index finger to a small circle on the side. Feeding a tiny amount of chakra into it, she set it on top of the pile of rats and waited a moment. This time she had asked for an explanation of what she was borrowing and how to use it, she didn't need to level a house this time. In a few short moments, the three rats were enclosed in a golden colored, opaque bubble with three round holes in the top so they could breathe, and a flat bottom with straps on it.
Amy tipped the bubble on its side and squatted down to slip her arms through the straps, then buckle the third strap around her waist, before pushing herself back to her feet using only her leg muscles. Once she was standing, she adjusted the straps as needed and walked back to the trip wire hallway. There was no way she would be able to flip through this carrying four mutant rats on her back, so she shrugged and began to run, being careful to break all the tripwire as she went.
Spikes fell from the ceiling at various intervals, a few kunai flew past her right shoulder as she leaned to the left, and various other dangerous things happened as she ran, but soon enough she had reached the end of the hall and the first room, ducking to the side just as another boulder came rolling through the existing opening.
