Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Void Log :: Day 4 of Umashi's Disappearance (Konoha Time) // Day 656 of Umashi warring against the Will of Fire (Void Time)

As strange a concept as it might have seemed, the Will of Fire was broken. As was explained to Umashi, the civil war that had ravaged the Fire Country had on a fundamental level severed far more than emotional and political ties within the country, it also fractured adjoining realms as well. So far as Umashi was able to wrap his mind around, the Phoenix had been split into two forms, that of Dark and Light and with them separated, the balance of the scales was unstable and thus needed to be fixed. Even to Umashi the idea of it all seemed like something conjured from a child's bedtime story, a dream or some sort of quest from a contract creature beyond what even he knew of. Treating the ordeal like any other test of courage, Umashi held faith that in due time all would be revealed.

Coming to know the men and women that he was traveling with, Umashi learned their names but through the various battles and skirmishes that they endured, names and faces seemed to come and go. One particular older warrior that he'd come to know was a kindly fellow, a man who went by the moniker, "The Sage". Like so many, he too spoke of being called to duty for the war that they were waging on the behalf of the Phoenix of Light. Rubbing at the beard that he'd developed, if there was any indication given by the amount of time that the Sage had apparently spent in fighting the war then Umashi had a long hard road ahead of them.

Umashi had long ago stopped trying to figure out the in's and outs of the reality that he was in. As he reckoned, he'd been in the dark reality for well over a year but he couldn't quite pinpoint when. Guided by the Phoenix that led him, he followed along in her wake lost in thought. When he was able to catch glimpse of his home from time to time, he was unable to pinpoint just the amount of time that was passing on the other side. From what he could discern, Yomi was thankfully elected Hokage although he was sure that the burden that she was bearing was great. Fortunately for her, there were those that Umashi trusted that had surrounded her in his absence but if his time away dragged on for too much longer, he wasn't sure that they'd be able to fight the vultures off that were surely waiting for his demise to be truly made evident.

In those moments that the Phoenix of Light had allowed him to peer into the events of Konoha, Umashi experienced a rush of emotions. Emotions that he leaned on to get him through the ever twilight ridden war world that he now was forced to call home. The Hokage's pride didn't allow him to overly question or gripe about his lot and about wanting to go home. If there was one thing that Umashi had learned in all of his days it was that endurance worked out many situations more than stubbornness. Nudged out of his thoughts by an elbow from the Sage, Umashi looked around to notice that the landscape had changed from that of the twilight plains to that of a rocky plateau overlooking a large forest.

Floating above them and noticeably scanning the area before them, the Phoenix of Light turned around and landed before them. Though typically bathed in glowing flame, the red haired fair skinned woman dropped the aura that she typically donned and spoke to them with urgency.
"We are drawing close to the Dark Phoenix's strong hold and his forces approach from the forest. Prepare yourselves for a long battle as they they will attempt to hold the line." As if on cue, a number of eyes floated towards Umashi and he blanched as he realized why. It hadn't been a secret that for being known as the Hokage that victory didn't come so quickly for him. Rumors had begun to swirl that perhaps he wasn't worthy of the title that he held and despite all of their victories, Umashi couldn't say that he blamed them.

When Kami had originally Umashi branded with the Kotoamatsukami, there was no thought or credence given to the idea that it would ever be a hindrance to the village. The idea was to convert a criminal into a law abiding citizen and while it had initially worked, the very genjutsu that had given Umashi a new lease on life was threatening to allow the very end of the Will of Fire to come to pass. Being that the both the Dark and the Light Phoenix were the living embodiment's of the Will of Fire, to attack one directly was be quite literally attacking the Fire Country. With the command that Umashi was to never harm Konohagakure, once Umashi was made aware of what the Dark Phoenix represented, like a dog on a leash he found himself time and time again unable to do it harm.

In his inability to act, he'd even almost caused the Phoenix of Light's forces to lose a large stronghold. The question of what he'd do this time if the Dark Phoenix appeared and attempted to protect an important junction occurred to him, but the sound of a battle horn recalled him to the moment at hand as he and the other warriors of the Light Phoenix looked down from his vantage point, Umashi saw the familiar swirling clouds of dark chakra emerge from the forest and creep onto the soon to be battle scarred plains between the two forces. Taking shape, the mindless chakra fiends began to bang and slap their weapons against their shields and armor before a dark cloud of screeching birds took flight from the forest and began to approach from the air. Calling her forces to her side, Phoenix of Light readied her soldiers with a war cry as she took to the sky in a showy display of power and the battle begun.

It didn’t even matter. As the flames that he so desperately needed to help him backfired and nearly killed him, Umashi dropped to one knee as the dark hordes kept coming. With his clothes somewhat charred Umashi continued to fire off ninjutsu after ninjutsu, attacking with everything that he had. Long since separated from the main offensive team, Umashi found himself lost in a sea of dark foes who used any and every trick to do him harm. Going into a flaming frenzy, Umashi continued his onslaught as he climbed to his fight and snapped his fingers, sending off another wave of fire chakra around him that sadly didn’t do enough to stop the rolling tide of the horde.

Exhausted, and nearly at the point where his chakra was going to start burning his life force. Umashi looked around for something to help him out of this situation, anything to give him an edge. While he was willing to fight to his last breath, his desire to see Yomi again , his desire to fix the Will of Fire and his desire to grow old and see Konoha into a bright new age, all of those things helped to fuel his inability to rest peacefully despite the insurmountable odds that he faced. Unable to quickly draw up a barrier to protect him, Umashi was hit full force with a slashing arc of dark chakra and his body was flung far across the battlefield.

Hitting the ground in a crumpled mess, Umashi’s world was a blur as he heard the voice of someone calling him but was able to discern who. Beginning to black out, Umashi lost consciousness long enough for his Kage Seal to cut off. As he tried to fight off the darkening of his vision, a bright blinding light appeared to him as he recognized the voice of his old friend, the Sage.
“You’re exactly like your father you know . . . he was a fighter until the bitter end.” Not completely following what was being said, Umashi allowed his eyes to close as he listened to the calming voice. “All your life you’ve protected people, whether it was your fellowmen and women on the slavers ships, or your journey to the Earth country to see your people safe passage. Though your methods may have at times seemed ill advised and despite seeming to be morally gray, you over and over again proved that your purpose was to protect those that you loved and cared about.”

Feeling his body begin to heal from the inside out, Umashi went from feeling the coldness of near death to the warming sensation of life. From the darkness to the light, he opened his eyes to see that he was floating before his friend the Sage.
“I . . . I am what I am but right now my backstory isn’t what’s important, it’s . . .” Holding his hand up to stop Umashi, the Sage smiled and shook his head disagreeing with the Hokage. “For a fact, that’s exactly what’s important. The Kotoamatsukami placed upon you only made you more of what you were. You were always going to protect people, but you had to be made to realign your thinking. You were one of the first to begin the severing process of the Will of Fire. The Kotoamatsukami turned you from the dark to the light, which for a time worked, but now is no longer needed.”

Surprised, Umashi scoffed before shaking his head more out of ignorance of how any of it made sense. Slowly his senses were coming back to him and the Sage was beginning to fade as the battlefield was coming more into view. “Sometimes the Will of Fire needs to burn and sometimes it needs to heal. A pirate, a teacher, a medic, a leader . . . all of it while remaining nameless. What will the history books say about you? The Phoenix sent me to be your guide and I’ve seen your growth and I am giving you a new command. Now is not the time for the Will of Fire to burn, now it needs to heal. You will lead the fight as the new embodiment of the Will of Fire.” As the Sage spoke, Umashi felt an invisible wave of chakra wash over him as his vision cleared yet more and he was able to see the battlefield beyond.

The hordes surrounded him and as he reached out to brace himself for impact, the Sage finally disappeared from view momentarily as Umashi found himself surrounded by the dark hordes closing in on him to finish him off. Having at some point climbed to his feet, reached out and found that instead of feeling the warmth of fire chakra wrapping around his body, suddenly he was in tune with every living thing around him. The dark birds in the skies, the hordes around him, the ground underneath him and especially the trees from the dark and twisted forest from where the hordes were coming from, everything had a natural chakra of sorts that he felt ebbing and flowing.

Appearing at his side dressed in battle gear, the Sage leaned on a wooden staff and looked ahead to the hordes that were approaching. Speaking in a matter of fact tone, the Sage smirked as he again spoke.
“Your father died doing what he believed would be in the best interest of his family, to protect you all, to allow you to live. I now task you with living so that others may not die. Kaisenami Umashi . . . I hereby authorize you to be the Will of Fire.” Suddenly a bit giddy, Umashi chuckled and shook his head. “The unstoppable wave, eh?” Renewed with new energy, Umashi tested out the bounds of his new abilities and with ease he met the initial wave of the incoming horde force with a sweeping tree root that erupted from the ground.

Switching his focus, he took off running towards the enemy and briefly touched the large tree root that he’d created. Creating a wooden blade, he spun into action, striking and taking down foe after foe. As he struck down his foes, what he soon noticed was that they weren’t reappearing, that with every strike of his mokuton blade the tide of the battle was going more and more into his favor. Soon both he and many others supporting the Phoenix of Light had pushed the Dark Phoenix horde back into the dark forest. Glowing with a new purpose, Umashi noticed that he no longer received the same look of discontent from the others that he had before. His ability to overcome his programing and newfound ability to manipulate the physical world around him had allowed him to prove that he was worthy of the title of Hokage. With his new name and a new appreciate for the weighty responsibility to be the Hokage or Will of Fire, Umashi looked forward to finishing the fight against the Dark Phoenix so that he could return home.
