General Description:
Shigeru is of moderate build. He stands at the ever so average 5’9”, with plenty of lean muscle covering his body. He is a pretty man with prominent cheek bones and a chiseled figure that many men chase after. He has short cropped hair, dark in nature, sometimes looking black and at others dark brown. Shigeru carries himself proudly; he walks with his head held high, his gait calm and sure. Shigeru is most notably known for his booming laughter, which he releases whenever the moment arises. Shigeru’s chakra is thick and hot, just like his personality, manifesting itself as higher body temperature, since Shigeru does not have complete control over his powers. Walking through the streets of Kumogakure, the snow appears to melt off of him, sometimes to the point where steam hisses off his exposed body parts.
Shigeru never stops going, acts like a firecracker all the time, but never truly stops moving. He is an animated and happy person. Shigeru is very emotional, his love for fire is reflective in his personality. He is passionate in all things, and he wears his emotions on his sleeve, though he doesn't wear those often. When he is angry, he flames, and when he is gloomy, he wanes. However, Shigeru is not insane, he is just passionate. He belongs to that rare group of 'artsy' types that just feels more than your average man.
History:
Shimatsu Shigeru is a man of humble beginnings. His small family consisted of one mother, one father, two brothers and a sister, of which Shigeru was the runt. Home life was nothing to really write about. Growing up, his father, Shimeru, was some kind of clergyman, Shigeru was not interested in the exact details, and he brought home a respectable wage. The family, as such, lived in Kumogakure proper, in a district near to Market. Mother, Kiyoki, stayed home and tended to the family, though she was a respectable seamstress, her woven cloths being the reason her and Shimeru had met. She was a good mother, a quick tongue kept the children in line, while her compassion kept them human.
The older boys, nearly twins, Hio and Togeru joined the Kumogakure Shinobi Academy at the age of 8, a young Shigeru watched them go with awestruck wonder. The boys soared through their classes, bringing home not only good grades but many stories of bravery. Every day Shigeru would wait on them with baited his, his small doe eyes would grow ten sizes larger, and he began to dream of his own future in the academy.
Shigeru’s sister was next. Her schooling consisted of letters and numbers, and the stories she brought home only heightened Shigeru’s need to become a shinobi like his older brothers. However, one day she did bring home something back. It was a simple lute, but the music that it could produce brought a smile to Shigeru’s face. Her fingers, though clumsy, danced on the strings, and Shigeru began to fantasize about making beautiful music.
Then it came time for Shigeru to realize his schooling fate. He pleaded with his parents for a simple life of a musician, and they assented. They already had two warrior sons, and even though their bloodline was strong with chakra, the Shimatsus let their son become an artist, with the stipulation that Shigeru had to take some basic classes at the academy to not become a danger to himself and those around him.
So Shigeru’s life began for real. He learned the art of music, specializing in vocals accompanied by the small lute, and he took a few classes to learn and dwarf and control his especially large chakra pool. The academy schooling was a distraction, but one teacher did instruct Shigeru in the way of bolstering his singing voice with his chakra. Shigeru, through rigorous training and chakra, learned how to make his singing voice ring out loud and clear. Shigeru quickly rose to small fame among the locals of Kumogakure. He played weekly at local taverns and eateries, and people were moved by his music.
All was looking up for Shigeru, and it would have continued had he been an only child. Life, however, was not that kind. One day, while he was at the age of 15, Shigeru was sitting in the common room of the Shimatsu residence, his parents cooking up a family meal as they did most days. A knock came at the door, and Shigeru went to answer it. Behind it was a simply garbed man, plain grey and featureless. His face was flat, and he brought with him only death. The news came fast, Hio and Togeru were dead. No, they could not divulge any details about the death. Yes, they were heroes. Yes, they would be remembered. No, you could not see the bodies. No, you may not inquire further. Then he was gone, but the death stayed behind to haunt the family forever.
Shigeru felt emotions that were not happy that day. He had felt pain and heartbreak before, but it had never been this complete. His mind and body reached out for something to keep them sane, and they found the lute once more. The song that came out of him was one of utter despair, and that song of pain and suffering filled the streets as Shigeru wandered the icy plane of Kumogakure, his anger building and his emotions unbalancing. All his practice at infusing chakra into his singing came out, only building the sound of his song, which drew attention of all those around him.
Soon, Shigeru was stopped by that same shinobi who had brought death to his house. With a gesture, the ground trembled slightly under Shigeru's feet, a thinly veiled threat and a promise of power. The act shocked Shigeru out of his despairing stupor. He apologized profusely, promising to never act in such a way again. It was unbecoming of a man to let his emotions rule him. The shinobi offered no peaceful words, just a suggestion, honor the memory of his brothers by taking their place in the ranks of the warriors.
The thought had never occurred to him before, but after careful pondering the notion did make sense. Though he could never replace two with just one, even a single addition could honor the memory of his brothers, so full of life and hope. They wanted nothing more than to protect the village with their lives, but should their sacrifice mean the end of that dream? Looking at his lute, Shigeru knew that his life could amount to more, and he cast aside the instrument. Walking immediately to the nearby academy, he enrolled himself permanently.
The academy days went by quickly, since Shigeru had already taken most of the basic courses. Age seemed to be the defining factor in some of the more physically intensive classes, but because of his age, Shigeru had little problem really passing them. His ascension to Genin came quickly, and he took his new role and ran with it, wishing to get to a true position inside the village. Shigeru rarely complained, and did his work with a smile on his face, a song springing quickly to his lips even on the tough days.
The village recognized this hard work and determination, even from someone who started so late, and gave him more responsibility quickly. This only made Shigeru work harder, taking on harder missions and doing more to aide the village. This brought about his Chuunin exam, which was a test of skill and tactics rather than power. Shigeru's quick, bright mind gave him the upper edge, and he aced the exam almost unscathed, both in pride and body. With his new appointment, Shigeru took a slower role, he knew that he needed more knowledge before continuing on the true path of the shinobi.
Delving into studies at the Great Library of Kumogakure, Shigeru struggled to control his growing strength. His problem, as it had always been, was focus. The primary element that Shigeru clung onto was Fire. It came easily to him, because fire was fueled by passion, which Shigeru had in spades. He could explode at a moment's notice, blazing a bright banner in front of him, but rarely could he focus the flame into a point, as he had been shown by many stronger shinobi. Training consumed his time, and Shigeru fell a little from the limelight of the village, not pushing to be at the forefront anymore. Though he was growing stronger, he was giving up his calling, honoring his brothers' memory. Putting down the books, Shigeru once again decided it was time to push for the next stage.
Core Ability: Pyromaniac
Shortly after his entrance into the Academy the second time, Shigeru had a short class about elemental affinities and how some shinobi could bend their chakra into the very elements that make up everything. Shigeru was, of course, intrigued by this notion, questioning further about how one goes about finding which element chakras were attuned to. The teacher passed out small sheets of paper to everyone and asked them to release a bit of chakra into the paper. When they did, Shigeru's paper instantly burst into flame, burning out quickly. His question was answered.
Shigeru went to another teacher later who was teaching them some basic ninjutsu, where Shigeru asked if they could learn to channel fire. The instructor hesitated, but decided to try and teach the simple fireball technique. Watching the man with rapt attention, Shigeru studied the hand signals, taking it to heart. When it came time, Shigeru funneled his chakra into the jutsu, but being inexperienced, he overcharged the jutsu and ended up laying on the ground, scorched. Instead of being dismayed, Shigeru burst out laughing, his voice booming out into the training grounds. Making the fire felt like making a melody, he had just made a bad one. He got up and tried again, this time singing the fire into existence, blowing a large fireball out into the world. The feeling was pure ecstasy.
To say this indulgence into the flame was just a passing interest would bring shame to the true obsession that Shigeru developed with the flames. It was the perfect balance of chaos and beauty, mirroring his love for music. Pairing the perfect harmony with a melody was like creating a beautiful flame from his chakra. Though it blew up often, Shigeru only seemed to enjoy this pain. After intense training, his body was covered in small burns, and the hospital became well acquainted with the young Shigetsu. Essentially, Shigeru was trading the pain of creating a flat musical score with the pain of exploding his own chakra in close proximity to his body; he saw no problem with this.
As he got older, he used this obsession with the flames to achieve success in many of his missions. Many a time, while threatening opponents, Shigeru would just explode, lighting everything around him in flames just to scare opposing combatants, which was normally a winning tactic. This is not to say that Shigeru was insane, he just had embraced the wild nature of fire, as it perfectly represented him. He was a fiery person with a strong passion to match, why then should he dull himself? Would the greatest musician stop making music simply because critics did not agree with the results? Shigeru applied this philosophy to how he tackled every problem, over the top and without restraint. It did not always make him a favorite, but he was always noticed. He substituted the power of restraint for the flash and flare of overwhelming force, because Shigeru wanted nothing more than to be one with the fire he embraced. [/quote]
