Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Character's Physical Description
Rei Asari was always a girl with lighter skin, but since spending most of her days in the mountains and forests of the Fire Country her skin was almost a sickly pale. She had a youthful look about her, standing a couple inches over five feet and a small frame. Her black hair was long, reaching the middle of her back, but she had a fair amount of bangs that stopped just to reveal what used to be her beautiful piercing green eyes. The green in them, and with time even the white, had now been overtaken by red. For this reason, she was always found wearing dark sunglasses, so as not to scare anyone in the village she now called home for a few years. Her lips, neither thin nor plump, barely reveled much emotion, as she kept fairly serious in all that she did. Her wardrobe was mostly full of greys and blacks, with very little color variety, and she was never far from her headset and radio.

Character's Mental Description
Rei Asari was a devoted individual. She was most interested in knowledge and power. Survival in this game called life depended on these two things. She had seen many people die awful, painful deaths in this shinobi world. People close to her, people she had never met before, it didn't matter everyone eventually died to the cruel rules of this world. Instead of making her afraid, this fact drove her to work harder, to take every moment in for all the details, and to overall never settle.

For such a young woman, she had been through more than most so this did have quite the toll on her soul. Sleep was hard to come by, and Rei never dare let her guard down. Trust was an illusion. Her heart was seemingly icy, not full of much emotion for people these days. It wasn't always this way, and there was one item in particular that held dear memories to her heart of better days, the Konoha headband from her father.

Leaf held many hopes, dreams, and opportunities for the kunoichi since she had taken refugee here. Rei holding a rank in the innermost secret group of Leaf, the ANBU, made her feel a little more belonging to something greater than herself. Her skills being dedicated to the better for the village, Rei's soul felt, if only a little, redeemed in her previous actions.

Character History
Mina Chigokai was a young woman from a clan she ran away from at a young age. The blood that ran through her veins never changed, no matter how far she eventually resided from the settlement in the Wind Country. Her eyes had turned red, not even sparing the whites, proof of the clan she spent most of her time running from. Years passed happily by after she met some friends in her new home of Konoha. Eventually she married one of her fellow shinobi, a handsome man she had fought by for most of her time by the name of Makoto Asari. He was a Jounin, and he was never afraid of the young woman despite her almost dark battle powers, and almost-evil appearance. He himself was rather bland in his opinion, with short brown hair and green eyes he stood not more than perhaps an inch over his love interest. Mina Chigokai was unlike anyone he had ever met before, and instead of being afraid of her he was drawn towards her differences. Together the two had a couple of happy years immediately starting their new family with a beautiful baby girl. Rei Asari was born on a winter evening in the Konoho hospital, but it was the last winter they would spend in the city. The family packed up and left one summer evening after having noticed several changes around the village that made them feel not as safe as shinobi anymore.

Mina and Makoto took their things along with all they'd need to care for Rei and never looked back. They became constantly on the run, never staying in one place too long, and always watching their backs. The months turned to years and the couple, now fast approaching thirty, had successfully raised a baby on-the-go. Either of the pair was strong on their own, each having earned Jounin titles back in the Leaf Village, so together they had no problems fighting off bandits and average criminals that they crossed paths with. Life wasn't perfect, but it really had fallen into an alright rhythm. The young family was together and safe, and that was more than enough those days.

Rei Asari grew up in much different circumstances than most children. In those days it was the only way she knew; never staying somewhere for long, walking to far away places, and even watching her parents fighting off the occasional tough guy. As the toddler grew up she didn't speak too much, most days were filled with more thoughts than conversation. Toys were rare, and much loved, but her favorite time was when she got to watch her parents train and fight. They were both so strong, and she idolized that about the pair. No matter what each day meant, the nights were filled with smiles and laughs and Rei spent her first several years a happy girl from a nomadic family. It seemed the trio would be always like this, that things were just that simple.

As Rei grew up, she found herself attempting to mock her parents' training efforts. She couldn't have been even ten years old before her mother started to officially train her. It was only after many days of requesting, and a few of Rei's secret training episodes being found out. Mina knew if her child took after her, the stubborn little girl would be attempting to fight if she helped or not. It was better off with her being taken under her mother's wing, the older woman decided. Even if she was small, the raven-haired child was smart and a quick-learner, she picked up most jutsu that were taught to her, and even began to practice with throwing weapons. Of course, the lessons she received were made clear to be just that; lessons. Both Makoto and Mina forbid their little girl from taking part in any fight that may take place. As much as it upset the young Rei, she agreed in order to learn and train more. It was the best part of her days.

In time, Rei Asari began to find her own fighting style, and she gravitated towards throwing kunai, shuriken, and even needles as her primary weapons. After a couple of years with learning about chakra and beginning to control it, her mother began to teach the young kunoichi a few ninjutsu. She started to pick up on the jutsu just as she had been doing for the basics, but always wanted more. The eleven-year-old developed a habit to sneak outside late at night, when she was sure everyone else was asleep, and practice some more on her own the techniques she learned during the days.

It was a mid-summer night, with the full moon hanging low in the sky when Rei slipped out of her bed once again. This must have been the hundredth time, maybe more, that she had awoke in the middle of the night. She made sure that both of her parents were asleep before sneaking away from the camp they were currently settled at. The young kunoichi walked a couple hundred feet from the camp, far enough that she found a small stream of water. Rei decided that this would be a good place to start her nightly training and so it began just as any other night leading up to this. She threw kunai into trees for a warm-up, and then changed to needles for even more accuracy.

Next up was her chakra control training, with jutsu training just behind that. Rei sat down and did a breathing exercise to lead-in to the next phase. Instead of her chakra activating as she usually felt it, instead tonight she felt her blood running through her veins very vividly. More concerning than just sensing her own body, she heard the sound of blood pumping in others' veins for the first time in her life under the light of the moon. She felt the blood slowly running through her mother, and her father's sleeping bodies. There was someone else, though, she heard the blood pump faster in this body. Whoever it was, they were definitely awake, active even, and nearby.

The young girl's bright green eyes opened quickly, and she gazed into the water in front of her. The reflection of the moon could be beautifully seen on the surface, but not far from that was the worried reflection of a girl with long black hair and light skin. Her black clothes were slightly dirty, with only a couple of tears here and there. Rei got up with a push off the ground, and her small shinobi-shoes her parents had bought her not too long ago were soon walking back towards the camp she had recently snuck out from. The walking quickly turned to a sprint as she heard the acceleration of the new arrival's veins.

Rei watched from behind a tree as a tall figure approached her camp. He had skin that seemed to glow in the moonlight, but all his other features were dark. His clothes were jet black, and his hair color matched as it fell messy around his face. He grinned just before he made quick work of the two most important people in the young girl's life. Her green eyes watched the whole event, wide with fright. Tears began to fall, and the girl felt a rage she had never before. Her blood began to boil, and she felt warm all over. Hatred like this had never crossed her mind, she never thought someone would be able to take out her idols, especially so easily.

'How did he sneak up on them? Why did he murder them when they were sleeping? That's just dirty!' Thoughts raced in the raven-haired girl's mind. She hated this stranger so much she pushed her fear to the side for the moment. She heard a loud cry from the man, and he immediately met her eyes.

"That burning! Are you responsible, little girl?" His voice was smoother than she expected, and with not much more than a couple of seconds after he spoke, he was behind her. The rage, the anger, it was all still there, but her fear was kicking in once more. She shook in fear, feeling the warmth of the dangerous man's close body to hers. Instead of stabbing, slicing, or any other form of pain she was expecting to come next, she heard a laugh.

"What's so funny? If you're going to kill me, just do it." Rei knew she was at the hands of her parents' killer, and she had never felt closer to death.

"My objective was to take her and her husband out. Nobody said there'd be a little Chigokai." After the older man spoke, the short girl turned to face him. 'What does he mean objective?' Rei's green eyes searched the pale face for answers, with little success.

The man also looked upon the person facing him, taking in her features for a moment before he knocked the young girl out. The shady figure took the young girl over his shoulder and gathered a few items from the dead bodies before he set back out on his way, now to receive payment.

The next few months were very strange. Rei found herself now following the man who was responsible for her parents' murders. It was a bizarre time and place as she felt very cold and distant toward her captor. The man attempted, although never with much effort, to tell the young girl who he was and where they were headed. Rei pretended to not listen, always having a sour attitude, but truth be told she held onto those details very closely. The man introduced himself as Hisato, a former shinobi of the Village Hidden in Snow who now spends most of his time doing other's dirty work. He had explained that there was a place for children like her; talented and abandoned. She didn't speak up for several months, and because of this Hisato gave her the nickname "Chi". It was a shortened version of the clan she originated from, the one from which her powers mostly stemmed. Despite her silence, Hisato didn't return the same distance. He told her stories of his past, mostly stories about how he got to where he was now. One night he told the story of his trials, explaining that he had graduated to be the very best in his class. There was always more to learn, but details given were short and sweet.

It was so much different than traveling with her parents. For starters, they spent most of their days hidden away sleeping, and most nights on the move. Secondly, when her mother was her teacher, things went a lot more slowly. Hisato-sensai was not afraid to teach her a vast majority of techniques an jutsu that he had picked up throughout his years. Although he did not possess the bloodline that gave her the powers she started to develop, he was knowledgeable on them. He pushed her in training much more than she had ever been before, and late night training sessions became a thing of the past. He seemed very interested in her abilities as they began to develop, and she did her best to learn all she could from him, even if she still considered him dangerous. The last major difference from her parents' travels and her current ones was that Hisato never stopped in towns and small villages. He was clearly a wanted criminal, and he seemed to get most of his supplies from shady taverns along the road and other passerby's that he knew.

The nights were becoming colder in the autumn, and Rei was still following and learning from Hisato. She saw him more now as a strong man who made a few wrong turns. His life wasn't perfect, and he was mostly the result of too much violence. That didn't excuse his actions in her mind, the preteen was unsure if she would ever forgive him for what he did to her family. Something changed within her, though, since she had been following him. One day, during training, she told him her name, after being called "Chi" for what felt like the hundredth time. "My name is Rei, not Chi." Her tone was quiet, from not having used her voice in so long, but the annoyed tone still cut through.

"Well, what do you know, you do speak. I was beginning to wonder if I had picked up a stray animal." Hisato's words lightly teased and he let a smirk out. The remainder of the months that were left before the two reached their destination in the mountains were spent a little more lightly, with conversations no longer being one-sided. Rei never let her guard down, but she did start to form some semblance of trust for the man who had been keeping her alive all this time.

Deep within the distant mountains of the Fire Country there is a hidden settlement. This settlement is mainly made of missing ninja from surrounding Hidden Villages and children with no other home. When Rei first arrived she was in awe at how many kids around her age there was, and they all seemingly had someone who brought them here. Mysterious men, women, and children of all ages wondered about in the dimly-lit inside of the mountain. There were stalls selling things like food, armor, and weapons as well as what looked to be a few taverns. If you followed the road all the way down to the center of the settlement, there was a large arena. Hisato went straight to the older-looking tavern and, for the first time since their travels together, booked a room for several days. The man had previously stated how he had too dangerous a reputation to stay in villages or towns, and besides that their sleep schedules had become quite opposite most who travel. Now, in the depths of the mountain, there was no sunlight no matter the time of day so it really became hard to tell when days would pass, other than simply sleeping.

Rei spent the first day in the mountain town trailing behind Hisato, as she had been doing for almost half a year now. He put their things down in the room, stopping for a few minutes of rest before they went back out into the busy street. The tall man wandered to the center of the town, just outside of the arena, where he then stopped in his tracks and proceeded to quickly turn and face the young Chigokai. "This is it, Chi, remember everything I taught you and you'll make it through the trials just fine." His words seemed sincere for the crazed man, but Rei became annoyed at his choice of words.

"My name isn't Chi! How many times do I have to tell you-?" The girl's anger was put to a halt by the older man's rough, pale hand over her mouth. It shocked her more than anything, but the method silencing definitely had her attention now.

"Keep on your toes. These kids are all going to be aiming for the same goal, and you're one of the steps in the way. Just remember the jutsu we went over together, and don't be afraid to use everything you've got. You're opponents will, you can count on that." Hisato removed his hand slowly and kept his eye contact with Rei. Her eyes used to be a pure green, but since her abilities were starting to come in he noticed that the color in them was starting to change to more red hues. The Chigokai clan was said to have incredible powers over blood, and their blood red eyes were said to not even have whites. The girl he had taken under his wing was already quite powerful, and quick on her toes. He would be betting on the young Chigokai, but he knew that just one mistake was all it took to end everything.

Without further ado, the older man signed up 'Chi' for the trials, taking a quick glance at the others who would be participating and their respective missing-nin. There was a few on the page already, but Hisato knew there was a few not yet listed. He walked away from the sign-ups, and back to where Rei stood waiting and watching. "Time to get in some sleep, the trials start tomorrow morning." His voice was serious, and the girl with mixed eyes followed him silently back to the tavern. Rei thought it was a bit strange he didn't want to train before the trials, but she was so excited to lay down in a real bed again that she didn't protest.

Rei Asari slept well the night before the trials were to begin, safe in her comfortable, temporary, bed. She had thought hard about what Hisato had said to her about the others she would be facing not holding back, but she decided there was no point in stressing about it now. She was as ready as she could be and that was that. She didn't really get what the big deal was, but the following morning held so many answers. Rei had slept well that night, so she woke up early to get ready for her big day.

Rei took the time to brush her teeth and shower before she got dressed in her usual black attire. She brushed her long black hair and looked in the mirror for the first time in a long time. She noticed her eyes looked kind of funny, and her skin was very pale. She didn't look sick per say, but she no longer had the happy young girl look to her. The preteen made sure she had an abundance of kunai and needles at the ready on her, distracting herself from gazing in the mirror any longer. Strength was what she had always strived for. Beauty was overrated.

Hisato woke up sometime not soon after and the morning continued as a strange version of normal. After the pair arrived at the arena, everything changed. Rei was being pulled into a dark path by some strangers as Hisato stood waving for a moment until turning to go in some other direction. "Let go of me! Where are we going?" Rei's voice raised and her tone was very upset with the men dragging her along. She didn't get a response out of them, but they did finally push her to be on her own.

Rei was pushed out into the bright opening, and she stumbled for a moment before regaining her balance. It was so bright it took her eyes a few blinks in order to adjust. As she was gathering herself, she heard a loud voice from above her. "Ladies and gentlemen! The first match in our Annual Trials!" The voice was accompanied by cheering, very loud cheering coming from above.

Rei got her first glance of where she was and noticed the circular shape of the terrain she was on. The huge silver walls were the same as on the outside of the arena, and on the other side was a young girl. The girl had a parasol, protecting herself from the bright lights that shined above. She couldn't have been much older than Rei, but instead of black hair she had a pretty red shade that Rei envied. "Chi vs. Aiko! Match start!" The crowd erupted once more, and the young girl with the parasol wasted no time.

Rei Asari fought hard to defend herself from the onslaught of her opponent. The Aiko girl had many ranged attacks she liked to throw, mostly Wind jutsu. Unfortunately for her, Rei herself had quite a few jutsu up her sleeve, mostly of the Water and Ice variety. Rei's first battle raged on, and as blood covered the battlefield she became stronger. Eventually Rei got the upper hand and knocked out her redheaded opponent. She waited for the voice in the sky to announce her the winner, and the crowd to follow up with their adoration. Instead, she heard something like the opposite. The crowd was yelling things like "Boo!" and "Just finish her already!" that truly confused the young girl. Here in front of her lied her peer, and she was so injured she was unconscious. What more could these people want from her? Rei looked up in the crowd to search for the man who had put her up to this. It was so far to the stands, she could barely make out anyone's face or details.

"Chi has her opponent down, can she finish the job and move onto the next round?" The announcer's voice sent a shiver over the raven-haired girl. She thought back to that night in the woods when Hisato talked about his trials, and how he graduated. Tears welled up in her eyes as she threw a final kunai at her opponent's heart, causing the announcer and the crowd to erupt. She didn't like it, but she remembered Hisato's words to not hold back, and that her rivals won't dare. Everything made sense now, in a disgusting way. Tears fell from her eyes which were turning more and more red by the day. Rei bent down to pick up the weapon used by the newly deceased girl. The parasol had survived the battle well, and Rei thought it was the least she could do to respect this girl she took the life of. Rei was escorted back into the dark walkway by a couple of large figures, and she gripped tightly onto the parasol as she thought of everything that had just happened.

The trials lasted a few long days, with no breaks in the fights. Rei and the others waiting to fight were kept in a dark cell in the back room of the arena. No one talked, no one really even moved. Each kid seemed to be dealing with it differently, but the tournament-style was testing several children's sanity, including Rei Asari. The girl knew that there wasn't anyone back here who looked like they could be older than maybe their early teens, and that made everything so much harder. The girl went into the arena once again, and this time barely took the victory from her opponent, a young boy who had the powers of the Uchiha clan. He fought very hard, and this time when she killed the peer who opposed her she knew it really was him or her.

When Rei went back to the dark holding room after her second fight she noticed that she was the only one waiting, all the others had slowly disappeared. She knew there must be a fight going on at that moment, but did it mean that this madness was almost over? The consecutive fights were pretty tough. There was no medical shinobi helping them out after they were injured in fights, there was only more to win. Blood didn't bother Rei, especially her own, so she attempted to cure some wounds by applying pressure from shreds she tore off her clothes. Each match had lasted a good amount of time, so the raven-haired girl attempted to get a wink of sleep in to help recover.

Before Rei knew it, the large men were escorting her back to the arena again. The bright lights woke her up more than just stumbling around in the dark, and she saw her opponent looking quite injured and riled up from the previous fight. The announced called it the Finals and that gave Rei just the strength she had needed to give it her all this last time. Both fighters were injured and tired from the previous matches, but they both gave it all they had left. The crowd went crazy as Rei started to turn her own blood into weapons and jutsu, turning her injuries into strengths. The girl gave it all she had and, perhaps because the boy was too injured at the beginning, finished the trials with her quickest match yet. It took almost everything out of her, though, and she collapsed to her knees afterwards, looking at her hands. Those were the hands that had killed people today. It took a while for her to be able to collect herself and her thoughts enough to get up and leave. She was the victor, the only one who got to leave. How messed up could this world be?

Rei Asari went back to the tavern room that Hisato had rented out after she did not see him upon leaving the arena. Immediately, the young girl went to have the longest, hottest shower of her life. She thought about a lot of what had just happened, and decided there was nothing to do about it now. Strange that she didn't have anything but walking out of that place alive to prove her success. Not that she wanted to ever think about any of that again anyways. She had picked up a few of her opponents weapons, and that was her proof if ever any needed. After some long self-reflection in the shower, Rei stepped out to an empty room.

Not only was Hisato not physically present, none of his things were even in the room. Rei saw a note folded neatly on his bed and a shinobi headband. She picked up the note first to read the surprisingly elegant handwriting. Inside the note was a fair amount of cash, and an explanation that Hisato had went along his way without her and left her with some of the cash he won from betting on her. The headband beside the note she recognized as her father's Leaf headband. Hisato had been holding on to this the whole time? The pale girl was quite taken aback by all of this, everything in her life was changing so suddenly again. Just like that, she was on her own in the world with no one to look after her and no one to guide her but herself. She felt happy to be free, but it was also a scary feeling.

Rei slept the night in the nice bed before heading out in the morning. She left the mountain that now held some awful memories just as quick as she had entered it. The mountain was within the Fire Country so the Village Hidden in Leaf couldn't be too far. Rei set out with no idea where she was actually headed, but planned to ask the nearest settlement she came across.

The girl was searching for Konoha for a couple years, wandering the Fire Country. They didn't call it Hidden for no reason, if you weren't a shinobi it held many questions and mysteries still. The closer she came, the more people knew the reputation of the shinobi from the Village Hidden in the Leaf and they seemed to be held in high regard. Rei Asari had probably talked more in the past couple of years learning about the Leaf Village than she had in her entire life until then. It was unusual for her to approach others, but she did what she found necessary so that she might find a real home.

Konoha held so many answers for Rei about her parents that she'd never be able to ask them now. For starters were they really from the Village Hidden in the Leaf? And if they were, why would they have never spent time there? Why never tell her anything? The now teenage girl was trying to stay calm about the whole thing, but it was very shocking. The girl with now long black hair never missed a day of training and always strived to push herself to learn new things while perfecting old ones. Even though she had done some pretty bad things on the battlefield, she still felt most at home training and fighting.

One hot summer day in the middle of Rei's fifteenth year started off as just another miserable summer day searching for something never found, but turned into the luckiest day of her life. All the teenager's searching came to a wonderful halt when she saw the Konoha symbol on a huge gate with Phoenixes. It was a majestic sight, one that made the girl at first wonder if her now red-colored eyes were showing her an illusion. After calling out and actually getting an answer from a person, she was quickly shown that nothing before her was false.

The thin, pale girl told her story of survival and how she had never known anything but life on the run. The guard at the gate that day got more information than she'd ever actually told anyone about herself, but she continued to inform him of how she got the Leaf headband from her father's deceased body. It was a tale that led into a lot of questions to which the raven-haired girl answered the best of her ability. The guard informed her that her parents both had abandoned the village, but didn't seem to hold that against her specifically. She was granted access and in the following days she did everything she could to find a place to stay on what little funds she had left and find out how she could offer her services as a shinobi to the Leaf Village.

After a consultation, and a few tests of strength, with approval from the council she was appointed to be an ANBU Special-Ops kunoichi for the Leaf Village. After such approval the girl went on as many missions as she could, aiming to get some money and get back into battle, this time for the right reasons. After a couple years of dedicated work with the ANBU squad, she had gotten the notice of the right people.
