Name: Ozaii, Rikimaru
Age: 10
Gender: Male
Eye Color: Slate Grey
Hair Color: Dark Brown dyed with Cerulean streaks from nape to neck.
General Description: Born into a mid-ranking family that had produced a modest amount of Shinobi whom of which have been productive but not prolific additions to the village. Rikimaru as a young lad excelled in most everything he did. Whether it was based in the realm of physicality or mental ability Rikimaru had always possessed an affinity to adapting to the exercise at hand; a quintessential example of a 'fast learner'.
He never really had any problems with any of his peers in the village and was generally liked due to his seemingly ever-present high-energy and amiable disposition. That being said, Rikimaru did not shy away from conflict if said altercation was deemed unavoidable. And while his incredibly wise mother always told him to settle all matters, within, reason, using his words, Rikimaru did find himself, on more than one occasion, having to stand up for what he believed in using flesh on bone rather than word on tongue. To him as long as it meant defending what he thought was right, honourable and just then there was no way he could lose.
History: Upon his 10th birthday Rikimaru's parents, Oien and Tsubaki, finally deemed their youngest son fit to formally embark on the path to becoming a Shinobi. Rikimaru felt that he had waited more than enough time. For the past two years he watched other kids in the village become enrolled in the Academy. He knew he possessed far more prowess and aptitude than any of them. Rikimaru's parents always praised his ability but whenever he asked to be enrolled in the school their response was always the same: "You lack maturity Riki." In the back of his mind he knew the real reason for their hesitation. Ryousuke Ozaii, Rikimaru's only sibling, had been killed 2 years back during a reportedly "botched mission." The news of Ryousuke's death had a devastating ripple effect that resonated throughout the Ozaii Clan; it had nearly torn Rikimaru's nuclear family asunder.
This was the first time Rikimaru had been old enough to comprehend the convoluted concept of loss and death. Immediately after hearing about Ryousuke's death he ran to his favorite place to be alone, a fairly secluded meadow not far from his home. His soul traversed a gambit of emotions at a dizzying rate. Confusion; how could Ryousuke just be gone? Sorrow; my only brother is now dead. Anger; how could his squadmates just let him die?! Finally followed by an overwhelming sense of nothingness. An emptiness that left him drained physically, mentally and emotionally. Silence was his only company for a long time in that meadow. And as his only companion left a new one stepped in to replace the Silence; it was his father Oien. Oien understood the visage of his now only son almost immediately and walked over to the stump he was seated on.
"Stand up son." Oien said gently.
Rikimaru complied all-the-while trying to hide the tears that streamed down his face.
"It's okay to mourn your fallen Rikimaru. The way of the Shinobi is filled with perils that will endanger you and your squad. Ryousuke fully understood this cornerstone principle before he enrolled in the Academy and it's vital that you understand it was well Rikimaru. As mortals we all must be lain to rest eventually, that is my destiny, it is your destiny, truly every man's destiny. Now, do not be disheartened by this fact. No, rather, embrace it and derive strength from its inherent power. Rikimaru, in the years to come you will face many hardships along the path to becoming a Shinobi but remember that you have been handed this single life. Cherish it and push yourself to being the very best you can be Rikimaru."
Rikimaru was quiet for a long while and after silently saying goodbye to his only brother he wiped the tears from his face, looked up into his fathers eyes and gave his reply.
"I will."
Ryousuke was eight years older than Rikimaru so they had never been terribly close but Rikimaru's instilled sense of familial honour and obligation provided him a path, a direction, a basis for motivation in his life. The day before he started at the Shinobi Academy he vowed to uncover the truth surrounding his brother's fatality.
Ryousuke was the first instance of loss in Rikimaru's life but somehow he knew it wouldn't be his last.
