Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

History:
The Tsukinowa are an old fallen clan of lumberjacks. Once a very rich clan that held more land rights than a family of tree cutters should rightfully have, an early Kumogakure war tore apart everything. The current leader of the clan was easily swayed, and backed the wrong side. In a single week the Tsukinowa went from one of the richest clans in the Lightning Country to one of the poorest. Due to the original large population and the amount of land that was suddenly rescinded, a civil war broke out and splintered the main clan into six different smaller ones. After the small war finished and a new head was installed, the clan once again saw a minor return to their glory days for about twenty years. Then, the war between Bear and Marsh broke out, and once again the Tsukinowa pushed money into a hopeless war; this time hoping to be on the right side. Reaping the rewards of a war could have easily pushed them back up to a stronger clan and fold the broken six back into the one. Of course, it didn’t end with one side over the other, but with a treaty, and the Tsukinowa found themselves once again ostracized for helping to inciting it. The clan was officially broken down into a single family unit, their bonds and savings removed and given to war orphans, and then banished far away from Kumogakure to live in the Southern Trading Port.

Shinjo was born shortly after this. Or, so his father, the last head of his clan, who quickly became a raging alcoholic, claimed. His mother was a passive aggressive woman that had been beaten into submission by drunken abuse, and took out her anger on the son she seemingly never wanted. As the clan’s old trade was the removal and processing of trees, his father went into the actual labor force for the first time in his life and was constantly ridiculed for it. The man had no real world experience, and only knew what a lumberjack was supposed to do, not how. His ability to manage the woodcutters would of been useful at the time, but due to his dishonor, all he was allowed to earn wages for was manual labor. This turned into heavy drinking to drown away sorrows, which only dragged up deep rooted anger he continued to take out on his small family night after night.

After twelve years of physical, mental, and emotional abuse, Shinjo was an apathetic child who reacted to very little. Fights were common in his house, and he no longer winced at the sound of fists pounding against flesh, or the pleads for help. His world had always been like this, and he saw little reason to stand up against his father after the drunk broke his arm from the last attempt; some six years before. It wasn’t until the man’s anger was finally turned from mother to child did the event that shook his day-to-day finally occurred. Shinjo’s father had one thing to his name worth anything. It was an heirloom katana made from foreign metals. The blade itself had mysterious runes in an old language acid etched into the sword’s guard, and when drawn, it appeared to glow a soft yellow, as if reflecting moonlight. The gemstone embedded in the pommel’s cap was worth their entire house supposedly, but for some reason, Shinjo’s father refused to sell it no matter how destitute they got. One night, an argument about said sword was brought up, and the words “you care more about that rusty blade than your own son,” were thrown around; unfortunately Shinjo’s father was willing to prove how much more. He drew the blade and moved to drive its point towards the child who was just standing there watching with horror. His mother, who had not shown any outward kindness to him even once, dove before the blade and impaled herself to save the child from certain death; she died instantly in his stead.

Everything about that night after watching his mother die was blank. Even now, some three years later. No one knew how, but the then ten-year old boy managed to wrestle the katana away from his father, and beheaded him with what appeared to be a single clean stroke. The child was immediately sent back to Kumogakure to be placed into the Academy due to a clear underlying strength that could be drawn out, but his godparents managed to intervene. They were an old shinobi couple, members of the Main Branch, and managed to get their government to at least put a hold on entering him into the Academy until he could shake off the tragedy of losing both his parents so violently. In a rare instance, Kumo agreed, and allowed young Shinjo to move in with them instead, under the clause that they keep a watchful eye on him, and immediately submit him into the Academy if he continued showing any signs of powerful chakra; to ensure this, a doctor would check him once every six months. A single year later and the boy had changed little except that he now lived in the Village Hidden in the Clouds instead of a fish-reeking port. Even his low levels of chakra continued to stay just out of range to be drafted and he had developed an asthma problem in the meantime.

Kagami Miro changed the path of which Shin walked. An Uchiha descendant, the very leader of ANBU found the boy experiencing night terrors while he was out on the streets at night. In a mirth of sadism, she approached the child and placed him under a powerful Genjutsu born of her Kekkei Genkai that forced him to confront his father’s death for the first time, fully, since it happened. Through an explosive show of hidden chakra potential, the fellow teen was able to brake away from the powerful illusionary trap and swing a weapon at the Sennin’s throat that had been given to him and dared to do so; if he could break out of her mental games.

The very fact that he, untrained, had managed to do that at all spoke levels of hidden potential that his godparents were somehow hiding. Miro knocked the child out and carried him to the Academy herself to be entered and enrolled. He woke up the next day in a bunk bed all alone within the walls of the Aurora Eruditio. All of his actual belongings, and his father’s sword, were in a trunk at the foot of his bunk-bed that he eventually ended up sharing. From there he was given his very first lesson by the ANBU Sennin herself, a study in the very power of illusions she had used against him. In a marvel the boy was able to pick up the scroll tossed at him, read, and replicate what was written on it right there on his first try. Miro knew then what she had found and how he could be used, and from there on out kept an ever hovering hand over what studies were fed to him.

However, Shinjo proved to be something above the rest. Due to a yet undiscovered tragic past, the boy actually had the latent chakra potential and talent of two other people literally layered on top of his own. Every last thing sent his way was mastered within the week. Genjutsu, basic Ninjutsu, Kenjutsu, Taijutsu, Marksmanship, Elemental Nature Change…the list goes on. It seemed that nothing could stop the potential powerhouse that was his genius as he blew past his peers within months, all up until he encountered his one true weakness - stamina. A weakness in his lungs that could only be related to asthma inflicted his ability to keep up with the rest. Despite his overwhelming natural talent, his stamina was even now less than that of a child. Which came as a mystery since, for as long as he could remember, he had no problems running around in the lower lands near the ports. Even his first year within Kumo he had only experienced very small problems breathing that his godparents assured was just adjusting to the altitude. This single weakness had every chance to ruin his shinobi career before it ever began, but the ANBU Sennin who earmarked him from the start wasn’t about to allow such a frailty to pass. Enlisting the help of the Medical Sennin herself, they conspired to diagnose and find a working treatment to help his weak lungs. The result came in the form of a special rebreather fixed with two small canisters on the side that would create an aerosol spray of medication that counteracted against his asthma when activated. With this new device, and a personal inhaler for casual days, Shinjo once again rocketed to the top of the Academy.

On the week before the eve of his Genin exam he went to visit his godparents after discovering that his family history did not line up with what he grew up being told. However, Shin had truly forgot even that, and had simply come to visit his only remaining family to celebrate his accomplishments. He was greeted with not the godparents he had known in and out of his life, but with a drunk and a suspiciously passive godmother who looked on with indifference. Triggers from his abusive childhood rode his back the entire conversation where the pair revealed themselves traitors of Kumogakure and begged Shinjo to break ties and flee with them. The revelations revealed floored him for a number of reasons, but at the top of it he saw a link into the reason his father was such a prick; he had been destined for something far greater, and it had been robbed. The teen decided to turn them in to the authorities instead, but before he could draw his sword his godfather attacked and pinned him to the floor with the aims to choke the life out of the boy. It was there that it was casually revealed that they had been poisoning him the whole time, and it was that reason his stamina was so weakened. The trauma of the betrayal combined with the clarity of his allegiances unlocked a special Kekkei Genkei that is unique in its power to Shinjo. With it, he was able to kill his godfather in an impossible situation, and then his other parent followed immediately after in order to secure Kumogakure’s safety.

Shortly after he was given a Genin Exam by the ANBU Sennin in the form of a stamina test and then combat trial. The stamina portion was to climb to Raiden's Shrine, and old place of worship that was affixed near the top of one of Kumo's famous mountains. The combat part was facing against the very Sennin herself. While he was clearly outmatched in every category, the boy managed to hold his own and even break free of the Uchiha's powerful strength over genjutsu. Immediately he was given a position in ANBU as a trainee, his first payment as a member of the Kumogakure military, and his own apartment. At 15, Shinjo had a lot of free space that most teenagers his age would literally kill for; something that was quickly tasked for him to do. The very first mission as a member of the special ops went off flawlessly and brought back with him a list of informants to a growing threat; Tenouza. During the train ride to this first mission, the ANBU member ran across something he had not experienced before - affection. True, honest affection and loving attention from a girl born of high status. His second mission was to assassinate her father and any member of her family that he suspected had ties with Tenouza, based on the information he had found from his first mission.
Terrified of losing the first love he had ever known, Shin instead donned the disguise he had made for himself on the first mission and visited family as a boy determined to become a man. He posed as a lesser noble in love with the girl he had met on the train, and found himself in deeper than he intended as her father pushed for them to marry. For the first time in his life, the shinobi saw a path of life that gave him a choice; a life of love and peace, or a life of violence as a member of ANBU. Foolishly, he chose the former, and decided to betray his village in favor of love. That choice came back to bite him that very night when he went to go research into the family's background and their contacts to make sure they weren't actually Tenouzan spies; which, of course they were. Shinjo brutally murdered his fiancee's father in a burst of anger that was reflective of his father's rage, and in the moment his fiancee had snuck up on him. Shinjo whirled around and attacked, as trained, accidentally killing his first love. The rest of the night is blacked out from his memory, even now, but the act clearly broke something inside of him as he killed every single last person on the plantation; his target's wife, their children, and even the servants. ANBU found him sitting on the steps of the noble's home, the entire house and fields on fire, with the dead family lined up before him.

His return to Kumo from that point on was a problem. He quickly turned to poisoning himself with both alcohol and literal poisons to dull his mental anguish. He became sloppy with further missions, his actions began to reflect badly on the Sennin, and the constant use of poisons broke his mind down so hard he began to hallucinate his fiancee tormenting him with a single question; "Why?" Eventually his actions came to a full head when he started to kill ner'do'wells in his own village that should have been arrested and brought in for processing and proper justice; instead of being bludgeoned to death with a hammer. He was caught and broght into the hospital, something he had been in an out of for his mental instability, to finally be 'fixed' by his master the ANBU Sennin herself. Through unspeakable torture he was finally freed from his self torment as the guilt was literally ripped out of his mind. The process had been so harrowing though, his hair, once a mess of long ruby splendor, had turned white and fell out. His dojutsu that appeared to be a mutation of the Sharingan did as the Uchiha bloodline did though, and evolved through the stress into something grandiose. What was originally an ability to tear off bits of his own chakra to create spiritual weapons, he now could use to spread out his chakra in a fine film and mess with the very fabric of time itself.

The power of his new dojutsu, however, was something he kept to himself. After his rehabilitation Shinjo dropped his splendid technique with the sword and instead began to heavily train with a modern weapon that had been created originally for the powerless chakra latent people of Kumogakure to fend off bandits; guns. Through a long request of bribes and favors, Shin managed to get his favorite guns and have them submitted to the Kumogakure Weapon's Development to have them tinkered and transformed into something more useful for a shinobi. These weapons were then taken and sold back to the gun companies who created them to further upgrade their guns to keep up with the times, under the condition that he always had access to the first fully functioning prototypes for a full year before mass production. To wit, he's the only person in Kumogakure that has a short-barreled shotgun, and a handgun with quick reload capabilities.

Temporal Strider

General Effects
- The user's Temporal Strider skills have priority over any other action occuring at that same time.
- The user may not lose more than 2 AP in a round due to the effects of others (e.g: Suppression, Max AP reduction and such)
- The user can carry over up to 2 AP that has not been used from the previous round. You cannot start a round with more than 12 AP and any excess AP are loss.
- At any point in a round, you can spend either 1 or 2 AP to trigger an Epoch. You can only choose one Epoch each round and whenever you activate one, you regain the spent AP for the following round as if it has not been used.

Epochs - Mastery over time allows a Temporal Strider to utilize their given time to produce a wide variety of law-defying effects and brief, but momentous events.

  • Haste - Grants you or a target of your choice +3 Dodge/Save and 10% Auto-Dodge for 2 seconds for every 1 AP spent. (minimum of 2 seconds).
  • Slow - Grants you or a target of your choice -3 Dodge/Save for 2 seconds for every 1 AP spent. (minimum of 2 seconds).
  • Flow - For every 1 AP spent, you can reflexively force an action to be modded as normal timing.
Abilities
World Standstill - Kinjutsu Ability
Perhaps the most frightening ability of a Temporal Strider is their capability of halting time for very short periods. To the unknowing, it could even appear as if the Temporal Strider is conjuring attacks from from thin air, or warping from one space to another, unaware of them moving very regularly in a time seen only by themselves. Though exhausting to the user, even the briefest of extra moments can offer a momentous advantage during battle.

Information
Prerequisites: Temporal Strider

Effects: The user may stop time, which acts as a "round-within-a-round" occuring at that point. The duration of this sub-round may last 1, 2 or 3 seconds (user's choice). While time is stopped, only a Temporal Strider may perform actions, while all others are "paused" and immune to all actions which hit them in a sub-round (harmful and beneficial). Once this sub-round ends, the round continues from where it left off, uninterrupted.

Cost: 1 AP, and 1.5% Max CP x seconds stopped

Note:
- World Standstill may only be used once per round, regardless of how many Temporal Strider are present in battle. The user has a 15 second cooldown before they may reuse it again.
- Actions may begin inside the sub-round and carry over into the real round. Example; performing a 2.5 second action within a 1 second sub-round, will cause it to complete 1.5 seconds after the sub-round ends.
- The stopped time sub-round has no effect toward any duration/cooldowns.
- Paused targets are only immune within this sub-round of stopped time; if the user delays a jutsu to resolve after the sub-round ends, it may affect the target.

Chronostasis - Kinjutsu Ability
Time being like so much liquid to a Strider, then can easily throw their chakra forwards in it to form into its essence later--even controlling where and when it appears.

Information
Prerequisites: Temporal Strider

Effect: Once per round, the user may reflexive delay any attack for between 10 to 20 seconds, or until the user delays a different attack through Chronostasis.

Notes:
- Can be used reflexively against a different target's attack, or be used directly to their own attack.
- Delaying a target's attack is automatic, even if an enemy.
- All costs are paid as normal at the time of casting. Any maintenance costs do not begin until after the jutsu occurs.
Techniques
Rewind - Independent Special Action
One of the notable abilities of a Temporal Strider is to forcibly push back an object or a person to a certain point in the past, rendering it or them to their state as before. Normally seen as an ace for Temporal Striders when dire situations are presented to them, but often times can be used offensively by means of putting someone back in a dangerous situation where they may previously escaped or avoided.

Information
Prerequisites: Temporal Strider, B-Rank

Rank 1: Negates the effects of the last jutsu to hit the user. This treats the jutsu as if it had never affected the user (removes damage, effects, and etc).
Mastered: Can target others.

Special Action: Rather than the usual effect, the user may choose to re-apply the last effect that had been affecting the target, but had been removed early. (Such as successfully resisting a Genjutsu, or a Poison, or escaping an Arena or Bind, etc).

Cost: AP equal to the negated Jutsu (minimum of 1 AP). Re-applying an effect costs 1 AP.

Notes:
- Each individual target (to include the user), has a 15 second cooldown before they may be reaffected by Rewind again.
- For the special action, choosing to re-apply an effect must be an effect that has affected them and they removed it. This does not include if the effect is a jutsu that is being maintained by another player and has been disrupted/dropped, causing the player to drop the jutsu affecting your target.

Fast Forward - B-Rank Non-Elemental Ninjutsu
Many consider time as a mere concept, a made-up to keep track of things as the day progresses. For a Temporal Strider, time is something tangible and a force to reckon with and when things are set in motion, they can turn the flow of time against it, speeding up their destruction and quickly passing their time to which none may benefit it's presence in the present.

Information
Prerequisites: Temporal Strider, B-Rank

Rank 1: Strikes a target at +2 accuracy, dealing 1800 damage and inflicting Wither to a jutsu or effect of your choice afflicted to the target or being maintained by the target.
Mastered: Strikes a target at +3 accuracy, dealing 2250 damage and inflicting Wither to a jutsu or effect of your choice afflicted to the target or being maintained by the target.

Rank 1 Cost: 730 CP
Mastered Cost: 910 CP

Notes:
- A target may only be affected once per round.
- May use any Accuracy of your choice (e.g: Ranged, Gen. DC, Ninjutsu, etc).
- May not choose Bleeding as an option.
- Wither treats the selected Jutsu as if 10 seconds had passed, also triggering any associated effects which would have occurred during that time (for example, maintain costs, resistance checks, DoT, etc). All costs/damages are immediately paid.
- In addition to the above note, Wither affecting jutsus that has HP (Creations or Clones) is reduced by 20% and jutsus that restores HP over time only restores 60% of the usual amount.

Favor of Time - A-Rank Non-Elemental Ninjutsu
There are ways to cheat time. Temporal Striders are able to step into the currents of causality and hop "between" strands of probability... and drag their opponents along with them. This means that any time an opponent would choose to face a Temporal Strider with the proper mix of cunning and strength they do so with the forces of fate itself working against them.

Information
Prerequisites: Temporal Strider, A-Rank

Rank 1: For 15 seconds, the user may reflexively select any two actions which require a roll, granting the action either Advantage or Disadvantage of your choice.
Mastered: For 15 seconds, the user may reflexively select any four actions which require a roll, granting the action either Advantage or Disadvantage of your choice.

Cost: 3 AP and 2000 CP

Notes:
- Has a 10 second cooldown between uses.
- Selecting an action only needs to be declared and likewise is modded as instantaneous as a result. Casting Favor of Time still takes time as normal however. Can choose actions from other players.
- Advantage causes the action to roll twice, taking the result which favors the caster more and discarding the other.
- Disadvantage causes the action to roll twice, taking the result which disfavors the target more and discarding the other.
- If the action has multiple rolls involved, you may specify which part(s) of the action you would like to impart this jutsu's effect on. Each roll you choose to apply this effect on a single action is considered as another action.
- If Favor of Time is used on an action, it removes any other effects that would allow the action to be re-rolled.

Broken Timeline - S-Rank Non-Elemental Ninjutsu
While time traveling is something that can be done with extreme precaution, a Temporal Strider will take that risk to do such thing. The ability to break the time itself, risking themselves as they call upon consumed time into the present, their own self that has yet to experience what is to come. These versions of yourself tend to appear distorted and gray, lack of colors as they are out of their own time and even so, they present danger to those around them and to the present self as the lack of communication prevents either past and present from exchanging information, although some find ways to order or prevent themselves from doing something in the past.

Information
Prerequisites: Temporal Strider, S-Rank

Effect: Summons a version of yourself, a Time Echo, from one of the last 3 rounds. Lasts 10 seconds.

  • Has secondaries equal to user's.
  • It will perform all actions and conditionals performed by the user during that round, choosing the same targets as before.
  • You can cancel or re-direct any actions your version would had performed during the round. You cannot order your version to perform new actions.
Cost: 4.5 AP and 4,620 CP.

Note:
- Has a 20 second cooldown from the time the Time Echo disperses.
- Any HP/CP damage taken by the Time Echo would be dealt to you instead.
- The Time Echo does not have any AP; it will attempt to perform the same actions, with the same amount of time passing between them as they were originally used. It's actions may be spill over between rounds (example; it performing a 2-second action at 9 seconds into round 3, will cause the action to occur 1 second into round 4.)
- The Time Echo is not treated as a Clone or Creation. This does not allow you to bypass any limitations such as barriers, creations, clones, etc.
- Both "Once per round" actions and those having a cooldown, when performed by the Time Echo, do not count toward the user performing them in the current round. This only applies to these kinds of actions (not once per battle ones, or things target may only be affected by once per round).

Name: Dr. Sutahoshi, the Reality Chip

Description: – Dr. Sutahoshi is the mind of a genius housed inside of a computer chip created with mysterious metals completely lost to history. It’s about the length and width of a fully grown human male thumb. Its casing is an electric purple color with the intricate chip inside boasting a glowing golden color with arcing purple energy that grows when the chip is held by a person. When it is placed at the base of a human skull, the metal fuses with the flesh and inserts the chip itself to touch the medulla oblongata. From there it can send impulses to the person’s brain to make the see Dr. Sutahoshi or to instantly relay information that is stored within the chip. When not slotted into the base of a human skull, the chip can project a hologram using the original host’s stored chakra. The hologram is a display of the Doctor that can be used for conversation with humans other than the one that owns him. This form both within the head and outside the chip is a rather plump man in an oversized labcoat, dress pants, white button-down shirt, and a thick walrus-like mustache.

Personality: – Sutahoshi was a man so curious he decided that, in order to see how humanity would evolve, he etched his entire personality onto his greatest invention: the Reality Chip. The one that houses his mind was especially designed to grant his extensive knowledge of things rather than reprogram someone. His purpose in doing this is to seek out humans of his future and teach them the lost information that has gone missing throughout time. It is unfortunate that throughout the time spent in isolation in the mountains most of the information he stored away became corrupted. Aside from this yearn to guide, the man is akin to an overly caring grandparent. The first thing he asks when someone uses him is if there is anything that he can help with. If asked a question he knows, the doctor then goes through a thorough explanation of the topic, and it is granted within seconds to the user. The sudden information dump, normally a painful process, is usually left instead with a state of calm.

History:
The land of Kumogakure was once said to be a place where the gods and man walked side-by-side. The heavenly beings blessed upon the creatures of the world their presence and their knowledge, causing the civilization to rise up in Lightning practically overnight. However, the truth of the age and its realities have mostly been lost to either time itself or purposeful sabotage. Only a small amount of records from the period of time even exist anymore, and non of them really describe anything in detail save some of the technology. Many lifetimes have been spent deciphering what remains of the ancient knowledge of Lightning, but it has always pushed the country forward as a whole when the old technology either finally bears fruit or someone else is inspired by their teachings.

Some technology, however, never should have been created in the first place. Doctor Sutahoshi Ise was a man devoted to the science of his time and was a major part in creating many inventions those in his time enjoyed. Yet his crowning project, the thing that gave him the most fame in his name, was a device that even he, himself, condones. Originally given the project by the rulers of his time as a way to cure mental illnesses, the device Sutahoshi gave birth to was known as the Reality Chip. He purposed it to be something that could be inserted into the base of a human skull to literally rewire a person’s entire personality to literally erase the mental issue all together. Unfortunately the overseers of his time decided to use the devices, which were easily changed, to create perfect monsters, destroy other intelligent men, and reign ruin on their society. Eventually the devices were culled and destroyed, and the man who created them exiled into the deep mountains.

In those mountains, the doctor flourished. Being pulled apart from the society that enlisted him to create such a horrible device gave him realization on what was wrong with mankind in the first place; their lacking knowledge. So, with what limited supplies he could afford and barter in, the doctor went back to transforming the small stash of Chips he kept to himself when the culls started, and began to work on them one-by-one. Inevitably, he destroyed all but a single Chip, and it housed his greatest creation. Once inserted into a head the device in its blank state would record an entire being’s personality. From there it could be easily removed and placed inside of another person so that it could speak to that person and share knowledge. It was his own brand of immortality in a single device about the size of a thumb. He tweaked it once it was removed to keep himself from exploring any taboo topics that were scorned in his own time, or to even mention what his own life was like. That wasn’t the knowledge Sutahoshi wanted to pass on. It was information about the vast amount of technology they had, the outright library of jutsu he personally knew of and how to preform them, and secrets to the human body that would enlighten anyone who inserted the Chip into their brain.

Sadly, the good doctor’s noble quest was cut short as his enemies, the companies he helped create so much technology for, razed his compound in the mountains. The Reality Chip he had secreted away remained untouched for over a thousand years before Shinjo literally stumbled upon it. By that time it had been damaged by time for being locked away for so long. The Sutahoshi that appeared before the assassin was glitchy, and at first could only speak in strange riddles. Once Shinjo unlocked the Chip’s built in security, the projected spirit claimed that it could not help him in the way he wanted; which was to rearrange his entire personality to not be crazy. Instead, the doctor promised to help him try master any power he came across and didn’t know of, and still had access to some of the information regarding Ninjutsu and body enhancement. Sutahoshi was still, after all, a curious scientist who wanted to make Shinjo a better man.
