All he wanted was a cup of coffee. Working evenings and reading through most of the night until early morning was taking its toll on his usually fairly civil demeanor as he banged on the door to the coffee shop he realized he was not in the best of moods probably. He didn’t really care he wanted some damn coffee. As the knocking had turned to pounding of his fist the door finally opened to him kicking it repeatedly. The man opening the door looked around.
”We’re closed.” he stated.
Kamaru pointed at the open sign and watched the man grab it and restate they were closed attempting to shut the door. Kamaru didn’t like that, as he kicked the door fully open the man stumbled back. Walking in Kamaru tried to act as politely as he could.
”I’d like a cup of coffee, then I’ll leave… since you’re closed.” he stated staring the man down.
He didn’t look like the type to be working in a coffee shop, he wasn’t even wearing the apron correctly. The man went to the machine to prepare it slamming things around impatiently, Kamaru moved to the counter to wait taking a seat while it was done. If they were closed why were there two people at a table trying to look at him but not make eye contact? Why were they so nervous?
As a cup of coffee was dropped in front of him Kamaru’s nose flared from the smell. And not in a good way.
”One cup of coffee.” the man stated and waited.
”Uh uh, you drink it.” Kamaru countered back.
”Look you’re the one who barged in and wanted a cup of co-“ he began before Kamaru grabbed him by the back of the neck and forced it into his mouth. As the man gagged and spat it out he swore and making comments on the foul concoction. Kamaru nodded in agreement.
”Either you’re crap at making coffee or something ain’t right. What’s really going on.” Kamaru stated.
The man stared Kamaru down and suddenly was slashing at him with a knife he pulled from under the counter. Not seeing Kamaru where he should have been he was probably surprised when everything went dark.
As the man flopped behind the counter Kamaru turned to hear the sound of feet already running down stairs.
There’s probably innocent people down stairs… I’m too tired for this he thought to himself with a sigh as he moved to the door and down the stairs. At the bottom in the darkness we walked forward and pulled the light switch on a light bulb fixture, no light. Everything went black as he fell to the ground. As someone put the bulb back in he heard a gravely voice order someone to tie him up.
When he came to a guy with two scraggly men next to him stared at Kamaru.
As Kamaru came to he noticed the hostages in a corner cowering, three ladies and a young man. Two of which looked like customers. Rocking his head from side to side slowly he sighed, he was tied at the wrists, waist, knees, and ankles. At least the swelling was going down on the back of his head.
”You’re going to be quite for a bit so this meeting can go down.” the one in charge stated.
”Any of you hurt over there? Listen there’s a bit of crap coffee that was made in the machine still and it’s on the ground too so when you clean up.” Kamaru began to talk.
”HEY! Don’t ignore me bastard! I’m calling the shots here, I’m running the show.” the one in charge barked his voice getting a little too high Kamaru thought.
”Well if you’re in charge you know I’m just making sure your hostages are okay and not in need of medical attention. And it doesn’t matter really what I do does it? Here’s the deal, I’m going to ask you to surrender untie the hostages. Untie me and turn yourselves in. Hopefully I can get a few weeks of free coffee out of this too.” Kamaru explained before a fist came flying at his face.
What followed was a beating but for some odd reason Kamaru just laughed through it all.
The two others that had been upstairs came back down.
”Boss I don’t think they’re coming… and that guy he knocked out… he don’t look so good.” one of the two explained stammering out what he knew the one in charge didn’t want to hear.
Kamaru sighed watching the man catch his breath. ”Offer still stands.”
”What the hell you gonna do, there’s six of us and one of you, and you’re tied up.” the man roared back.
”Correction, one of you is still out, these two yahoos are on look out and you damn well know they’d bolt if they thought they were in over their head in a fight. And the two behind you been making goofy eyes for a while, probably cus they’re wondering if they’re still getting paid. Let’s keep it on the table that light goes off these five are unconscious before I turn it back on. If you don’t believe tell one of them to turn it off.” Kamaru spat back staring the man down.
”Do it.” he ordered with a smirk as he rushed Kamaru for a haymaker punch.
As the lights went out there was quite a bit of commotion. Kamaru turned the lights back on and surveyed the room, four more unconscious guys, one broken chair, and one leader with a bloody nose.
”What the hell you some kind of super cop?” the leader sputtered around his bloodied nose.
”Well I do like a good cup of coffee, and I do get pay for doing the right thing usually, so I guess I sorta am.” Kamaru admitted getting the ropes that tied him up around the leader. Going up stairs he dragged down the other criminal canceling the Leech Seal Kamaru had placed on him before coming downstairs. Since he was unconscious Kamaru was pretty sure h e wouldn’t mind. Coming back down he moved the bodies together the leader telling the people to let him loose or he’d kill the lot of them.
”You people are free to go upstairs, we’ll need to get statements from you before you go though. You though sir, ain’t doing nothing of the sort” Kamaru stated before putting a hand on the man who still had a bit of spitfire in him.
He gagged a bit and Kamaru helped him down, ”Ssssh just pouring out a bit of that piss and vinegar in you so we can chat…” Kamaru explained forcefully pulling chakra out of the man he didn’t have. The hostages slowly moved out of the corner and up towards freedom.
As they made their way upstairs there was a scream before someone came running back down the stairs.
”Which one of them tried to make coffee! They ruined the machine! I’m cutting his balls off.” she screamed ending with a possible real threat revealing the knife she was brandishing.
”WHOA WHOA WHOA!” Kamaru said blocking her; she had definitely snapped, ”Once the reports is in we can see about reimbursement… in the meantime can’t you sell tea or something and not cut parts off of people?” he tried to calm her and resolve the situation.
”Do you drink ‘tea’?” she asked positively fuming.
”Umm… not really a ‘tea’ person but I can try since it might get served by a pretty lady… how about you give me the knife so I don’t have to write in the report about a castration and you just kick them around for a bit.” Kamaru offered.
”Which one did it?” she finally asked handing over the knife. As she started to kick the unconscious tied of man it was kind of disturbing how she started to giggle grabbing hold of something to steady herself as she repeated kicked him almost losing her balance.
As the group leader watched he saw Kamaru smirking at him as he got closer. Putting his hand in front of his mouth he muttered aloud, ”Oh wait did he say you made a cup of coffee before you came down?” Kamaru teased turning towards the deranged owner busy stomping the life out of one of the former hostage takers.
”You can’t do that, you’re a cop!” whispered back fiercely.
Kamaru shook his head, ”I said I was like a cop, so why don’t you just tell me before I get creative.” he explained wiggling the knife.
They explained about how the meeting was going to go down and with whom. For the most part they were just the doormen. He didn’t like the sound of one of the invited groups to the meeting though. The United Red Insitute.
"I need a cup of co...tea..." Kamaru muttered after hearing the details and running a hand through his hair.
”We’re closed.” he stated.
