Kamaru rubbed his eyes and looked up as the knock came. The young lady was ushered in and Kamaru put away the folder. Although it was related Kamaru didn’t know if it was worth mentioning.
”Shigemitsu.” he greeted her watching her sit, the guards watched her as well before looking at him and nodding and deposited themselves outside the door closing it behind them.
”So someone told me the location of the artifacts…” he stated getting a knee jerk rigid reaction from the woman. She had been giving information and trading things for that information, the more things they found out on their own accord that were beneficial meant less things she had to trade knowledge of.
Clapping his hands together his elbows on the table Kamaru made a slighted comment that made her a bit nervous, Kamaru knew she didn’t have a poker face to lie outright to him. It was aparrant when he finished the comment.
”Investigations into the site showed it had been raided… There’s a job through the Embassy related though of possibly someone selling a cache of recently acquired artifacts on the black market…I guess for the most part we’re done with that avenue with you than. You’ve told us all you’ve involved with the organization trying to break someone out of maximum security lockup. Just wanted to let you know your subordinate is fine… although a bit larger than normal by three extra people. I’ll let the guards know it’s time to take you back.” Kamaru explained.
As Kamaru stood the look on the woman’s face was as if he had pulled a noose out of his pocket and started to tie it to the ceiling for her.
”W-w-where the reports of selling artifacts coming from small villages in the Akatsuchi Farmlands?” she offered up not making eye contact.
Kamaru stared at her and replied calmly, ”Yes.”
She sighed heavily and didn’t make eye contact. When she looked up she noticed Kamaru staring straight at her with dead eyes.
”Why? Are you involved somehow?” Kamaru asked staring trying to read her reaction.
As her eyes moistened Kamaru continued to stare at her his face emotionless.
As the water welled up she started to cry, ”Yesh! Why is you face so creepy!!!” she blabbered out.
Kamaru sighed as Tsuya let him know of her older sister Takami who had gotten her the current job she had been on before she was put into confinement. The fact her sister dealt in smuggling made Kamaru sigh.
”I don’t see how you’re always getting into more trouble locked up than you did when you were out and about.” he commented massaging the bridge of his nose with his index and thumb. He felt a headache.
Kamaru having brought back the artifact had been supplied a new subject matter expert to take with that didn’t related or deal with underground criminals. Only a few days back in the village Kamaru found himself departing again to investigate things before requisitioning already stolen artifacts and possibly arresting the older sibling.
Tomokichi Fukurai was the person going out with Kamaru and by the amount of books think glasses and smile that was either from someone excited and happy or possibly going a bit crazy Kamaru found himself moving out for another mission wondering where things fall out this time.
After checking into a local inn with Tomokichi Kamaru had a general sense of the guy, he wasn’t all that bad but too ingrained in his work. Kamaru didn’t think he had that much room to judge considering his missions lately were the only thing on his mind. With the researcher held up at the inn for safe keeping Kamaru scouted out the area but found something or rather someone he didn’t want to see really.
The black trench coated wearing lady seemed to be on a security detail or body guard duty, Scanning the area Kamaru recognized the possible VIP being escorted by a few similarly dressed individuals in all black. The black slacks and boots and white bandaged chest poking out from the unbutton coat had Kamaru sighing, especially seeing a similarly emotionless girl in a black set of tank tops and shorts with similar boots looking around. By the facial expressions and thick eyebrows alone one could tell they were probably sisters. From his background with the two Kamaru knew so for a fact. Seeping out of the grounded area next to the two Kamaru wasn’t really noticed by the rest of the detail guarding the VIP directly.
”When I said to get out of Fire Country and start a new path, this isn’t really what I expected to see you doing… hopefully you’re doing something a bit more honest.” Kamaru commented not looking at the two.
The younger sibling jerked a bit adjusting suspenders from her shorts as she looked over at Kamaru, although she had grewn a bit taller she looked mostly the same, her expressionless face didn’t tell Kamaru much although the words did.
”Sssh, we’re on a job… If you’re going to try and hit on my sister do it after hours when we’re not at work…” she explained looking at him before scanning the area.
”He’s not that sort of guy. And I’m just trying to make ends meet so it’s not what it looks like.” she explained not looking at Kamaru still surveying the area, ”You look good though.” she added with a hint of a smile on her face.
Kamaru shook his head, ”Just stay out of trouble please.” he stated moving out of the area as to not draw attention.
The auction for the artifacts would be in a few days giving the buyers time to get into town. As the two sisters went back to their duties Kamaru wondered if he’d end up calling them on staying out of trouble.
Under the cover of darkness two figures moved into the warehouse from a window that had been carefully removed silently before they slipped in. With minimal light they moved around eventually finding a chest. With the target confirmed they looked to each other and nodded before they lifted the chest halting suddenly when someone spoke up.
”I said to stay out of trouble. Put the chest down.” Kamaru explained. The two figures darted a glance around in the darkness around them trying to pinpoint his voice since it seemed to trail about.
”I can tell you two apart in the darkness from normal criminals… you should have hidden your eyebrows better.” Kamaru commented, the shorter one reached up to adjust their headgear hiding their face. The taller one clucked her tongue.
”I told you it’s not what it looks like.” she explained.
”It looks like you’re boss had you case the place and ordered you to steal the artifacts before they go on sale. Or you’re doing this on the side and using the security detail as a cover. Either way put the chest down it’s not worth it and you don’t understand what’s really going on.” Kamaru explained.
The two ladies exchanged a glance.
As the smoke exploded around them Kamaru sighed as he heard the light tap of the chest scrapping as it went out the window.
Kamaru just sighed and made his way out himself and back to the inn.
Upon arrival back the two checked behind them again. Kamaru not following them made them wonder what was going on. They might be good but they weren’t ninjas. It made them nervous. The older sibling let their boss know when they got back of what happened and their encounter. The fact they weren’t followed though was dismissed.
Kamaru back in his room looked at the researcher who looked at the food supplies and water jugs. Pulling out a scroll Kamaru unsealed an item and gave it to the man, ”You have about an hour till I swop you to the next one, we’ve got about thirty items to get through. When you’re done I seal all your notes with the item. No buts. As discussed earlier we don’t leave the room until you’re done.” Kamaru explained winding a clock and going to sleep.
Having the rooms sounds sealed off from the outside world and a thin invisible shell around it the researcher shrugged and got to work since Kamaru had explained this part as they traveled to the town. In the meantime chaos moved about the town as the darker forces stewed over the outcome of the previous night.
Someone had stolen the artifacts before they went on sale. Several people accused one another no one had any proof. Even the siblings’ boss had a valid reason to say he didn’t have the items since he didn’t he did openly admit he wished he did since they were stolen. This wasn’t all that bad but when Kamaru finally emerged from the room he yawned, although he was waking every hour to switch the target of study for the researcher he was getting in a lot of sleep if and when he needed it. For a town full of criminal elements he was surprised on how quite it was. Visiting the siblings he found out something a bit more surprising than what he expected.
Finding the inn the two were staying at with their boss was easy enough to remember but when Kamaru walked in to see the entire place seemed to be dead or asleep it gave him a moment of pause, checking the rise and fall of several people close to the door made him pick the later of the two. Although they looked to have been in various states of what was happening at the time was apparent to Kamaru, some had been put to sleep first before others that seemed to either escape or move towards someone who had been walking through the inn, namely to the room Kamaru was in front of with a broken door. Those inside although asleep seemed to be in pain since their faces were contorted as such. Finding the two siblings he thought it odd they had their hands on their ears. Shaking them Kamaru wanted to know if they were okay and also what had happened.
The older sibling was the first to come to, she could see Kamaru’s lips moving and realized he was talking through site before she actually heard him as he kept repeating himself.
”Are you okay? What happened?” Kamaru said before she finally said something back.
”Take off your shirt, I need to see your abs.” she replied.
Kamaru stared at the woman for a long second before moving on to her sister, commenting she must be fine due to the odd nature of her question.
Although she let him know she was serious he continued to ignore the request. Once able to hear and talk the younger sibling shed a bit more light on the situation through more common speech.
They had heard a commotion downstairs before everything had gone silent. When the door came off its hinges everything the man said sounded off as he entered, they had gotten pretty tired rapidly, or exhausted, all they could remember on the way down was the man’s bare chest and his sculpted well defined form. The younger sibling looked at Kamaru as she finished explaining and tried to start unbuttoning his shirt. Kamaru quickly smacked her hand.
From the older sister’s add in afterwards once asleep someone entered into their dreams it seemed to them. Having already gone to the boss they figured they were asking about the man who tried to stop them from stealing the shipment of artifacts in the chest, they had stolen the chest and their boss had opened it to show it was filled with chopped wood in replacement. The man had gotten into their minds after asking the question and seen an image of Kamaru it seemed, or at least they thought and the guy was going to search every hotel looking for someone who looked that way. Leaving the two to their own devices Kamaru left making his way back to his own inn. Seeing people after a while along the way sleeping didn’t sit well with Kamaru either.
As the man took notes the researcher in his slumber squirmed and moaned in pain as if being burned in his dreams.
”If you’d just tell me where the scroll is this would go a lot smoother. At least I can get what the items do in the meantime.” the man said mostly to himself, the unconscious researcher couldn’t hear him as he wallowed and bathed in fire in his dreams unable to wake up. As the sounds of stumbling footsteps and a voice came he looked up from his work.
”Where are you! You bastard! You think you can break into my place and get in my mind! Show yourself! And then you beat me in the head with a pot till it breaks! Do you know who I am?!?!?” a voice roared finally at the top of the landing.
Starting at the bleedied man his face seemed like that of the boss who he got the only useful information from that lead him here, his face though did seemed to be cut up heavily from something smashing into it. The man smirked a bit since blunt force trauma to the face wasn’t the normal way to get out of the dream state he had put him in but it worked. Brandishing a long dagger the man waved it around as he shuffled closer bumping into the wall along the way.
He was about to say something when the shuffling stopped, the shakey legs bent like a coil springing the body forward, it wasn’t the stumbling attempts of a battered man, it was the trained steps of a killer. Kamaru exploded in smoke canceling the transformation once he was within range to attack. The curved blade did seem menacing from the slashing Kamaru continuously arced the man’s way, thoughts of defensively just getting away were the first thing on the man’s mind as the dagger flew out of the Kamaru hands gloves were put on in their place. The man finally realized in the turmoil of being attacked suddenly that the burning in the wounds were poison slowly sapping away his strength. As he tried to use techniques against Kamaru to buy himself room he feel into the slippery slope most people do when faced with fighting someone using Taijutsu, not enough time to perform handseals. Kamaru walked the man mostly back into the room during the fight although it had only been a few seconds the man was starting to rally his spirit or do something to get Kamaru off him. Fortunately Kamaru had missed several time on what looked like painful attacks knowing over candles or lights that seemed to go out. Jumping backwards reading for the next set of attacks he looked around. In the darkness it was hard enough to see but he was pretty sure Kamaru was here, there ragged breathe of someone desperate. He stopped and looked around, he listened. The breathing was his, it was too dark around him he realized and he slowly found he couldn’t move. The sudden flash of light before darkness came out of nowhere as the bind disappeared. Kamaru searched his body and found a key for another inn before tying the man up and taking the notes and burning them. He woke the researcher who woke screaming and ran out of the room. Kamaru found him outside rolling around before he got a chance to let him know he wasn’t actually on fire. Letting the man get his things backed Kamaru made a quick stop at the man’s room. Finding a tall woman bound and in pain Kamaru sighed recognizing the facial features and hoisted her to his shoulder. Making his way back to the sisters’ inn he let them know where their attacker was and to bring him back to their boss who was just waking up but still groggy. They inquired about the woman on his shoulder who had a similar whoozy look. Kamaru simply stated she was under arrest and was being taken back for questioning. Pointing a figure at the two Kamaru offered the same to which they declined quickly. Picking up the researcher the trio headed back.
Once back in the village Kamaru dropped off the prisoner that was tied up for question, he turned over the artifacts and notes for now and let them know if they needed the researcher where to find him. He filled out a form while in his office after finishing the report before he had time to actually sit down. Dropping off all the forms he hung a sign on his door.
”Shigemitsu.” he greeted her watching her sit, the guards watched her as well before looking at him and nodding and deposited themselves outside the door closing it behind them.
”So someone told me the location of the artifacts…” he stated getting a knee jerk rigid reaction from the woman.
