Character's Physical Description: Rei has the both the title of the smallest and tallest in her family. At one time she was no taller than 4’10’’, she now stands at over 6’3’’. Rei has shaggy purple hair, hazel eyes, and a natural scowl that keeps most from ever interacting with the mechina woman. Almost all of her flesh is fake, most of it either really supple wood or reinforced soft metal as Rei is as close to a cyborg as one can obtain in this world. Her heart is a motor, her guts a specialized biotube made to mimic intestines and a reinforced stomach capable of absorbing small explosions; just to name a few replaced organs. The only thing that remains human is her brain, even thought that too has seen augmentations through Sealing Ninjutsu to keep her pain tolerance up, her body from rejecting the mechanical parts, and to fog certain areas of thought just enough to keep from going insane; again. Despite this, she looks 100% human and nothing like the machine she actually is. Her clothing varies as most people with any taste of style has, but on missions she always wears the same: a pair of shades, short black leather jacket, tank-top, jeans and heavy-duty sneakers; on the back of her jacket are two large red letter R’s. She carries a bandolier on her hip with this outfit and a small dagger hilted at the small of her back. The knife itself is only for starting fires with the flint necklace she wears as a good luck charm, while inside the slots of the belt is at least 4-6 different colored scrolls that are her true weapons. Rei’s other weapons are built into her body, and beyond those she has other inter-lockable parts that she can attach to her body hidden away in the scrolls at her hip that change the tactic she needs to face an opponent. Anything from a high-powered chakra flamethrower with the power to demolish small villages to a gem made of crystallized chakra especially tuned to ward off Genjutsu. Her greatest weapon is a second, smaller motor that fits right under the motor that is her heart. It temporarily multiplies her chakra capabilities, giving a temporary boost in raw power.
Character's Mental Description: Rei has always been the odd duck of her family. The branch of Ryuu’s that escaped to Kumogakure to avoid the wrath of Tengokai were his own cousins, so naturally they have the strange quirkiness that has always been the mother of invention for them. Rei, the youngest of this branch of the clan, was anything but quirky, though. She was stoic, serious, and a bit hardboiled. To the child, everything came at either black or white, there was an explanation for everything, and no one could tell her otherwise. She grew up with that mind set, never coming across an event that would change it, and became one of Kumorgakure’s top non-combative scientists by the age of sixteen; specializing in shinobi weapons and tools. She wanted more, though. She wanted to be able to use the weapons her hands created, but never had the body for. Before long, Rei began to break into deeper and deeper research, particularly on ways to increase her own chakra outputs as they were so dismal that no one in her family had been selected for the Academy in generations. This, unfortunately, lead to multiple mental breakdowns. Some of them were brought on by the pain of her own self experiments, while others attacked her mind from the countless failed ones. After a year of mental therapy she was forced into after they found her nearly dead after having repeatedly experimenting on herself in a fit of madness, she has managed to find some control. Shortly after being released from the mental ward, Rei picked back up her work with a gusto, and was able to complete her life-long dream of obtaining a body that granted the capabilities of fighting alongside the people she created weapons for. The only downside of it, was that she felt less human than the shinobi she now put her life on the line to protect, but as time goes on she sees it less and less of a detriment.
Character History:
Ryuu Rei was born premature and has always suffered weakness. As she was growing up, all the way to age ten, Rei was constantly reminded that her first three years of life were terrifying for her parents. The smallest cold had nearly killed the toddler once, and thus she lived an annoyingly sheltered life. By the time she was ten an older sibling had created an elixir that boosted her immune system so long as she continued to take the medication for the remainder of her years. The little girl, who until that time had accepted the sad state of her boundary filled world found herself amazed at the possibilities that could be offered by her brother’s studies. Unlike any other child who would just go about their life and use their newfound freedom to the fullest extent, Rei locked herself in her room instead; with every last book in the house.
Thus, her childhood was different. She didn’t have any friends, and those that she called “friend”, was little more than someone she was using for a personal experiment. Rei approached learning social norms as a scientist would; cold and calculated. Through multiple “boyfriends” and two “girlfriends”, that was part of another study as well, she eventually cobbled together what most people considered a fully functioning personality. Despite this, however, most people have no idea when she’s being genuine due to being one of the few people in Kumogakure who can go from a roaring laugh to a deadpan face in half a second. The clearly sociopathic tendencies the, now teenager, used to forge through the world worried her family; especially her own parents. Tengokai was her father’s uncle, and so the touch of madness that inflicts both the Suna Scientist Tama and his father could very well inflict any one of them as well, at any time. Rei’s black and white approach to every situation only further compounded those fears. Before they could confront their daughter of these fears, she was snatched up by the Kumogakure military over some blueprints for a flamethrower that ran off chakra. Despite not having a strong enough coil herself to test the theories she often proposed, her reasonings were sound and based in known fact. The weapon was commissioned to be created, and it worked with one-shot use. Once they realized the potential she had, Kumogakure quickly made a move to strike a deal with the budding scientist.
Though the weapon wasn’t cleared for field use the potential it had to be tinkered with and whatever other ideas Rei might have quickly became prized by the military. She was never given the warnings of the family heritage, and what things to avoid to falling into the pit of madness Tengokai had hubris’d his way into. Before either parent was able to talk to her the teen was whisked away in the middle of the night to be admitted onto a secret team that would be the creative mind into creating a new style of using Puppets. It was here that she earned the most praise as she applied her weapon theory to the limited knowledge of Puppet Jutsu and Weaponry, and excelled where other scientists with twice her chakra reserves had failed. She was able to fashioned a new line of Puppets that were smaller than the large humanoid ones Suna used, had far less parts to control which made them easier to control, and packed a devastating punch. Rei’s hands crafted a whole new style of idea for the weapons, relying on stealth and element of surprised contained in a small form; engineered based on the idea of how she saw herself. The frail girl who, even with medication, still got sick easily was bulldozing her way through the ranks of the military science world; but it was her weakness that continued to force her drive, not the success. Eventually Rei became the head of the project but it was shut down two years later. Despite the ease of which her contraptions were used, they were often single-use and only a small handful of shinobi had the forethought to use them correctly.
The scientist, now 17, still saw the entire project as a success. She now had a firm seat in Research and Development, good pay, and a life inside Kumogakure that one would dare say could be luxurious. It wasn’t enough, though. Romantic interests lined themselves at her door but she could care less. Money came in from every which way as free grants from companies that sent them as offerings, hoping that she might spare with one of her many blueprints yet submitted to anyone; but they were all refused. Rei had a high-rise apartment with three rooms, two baths, and a walk in closet the gods would envy - yet she spent her time in cheap dive bars wearing commoner clothing. The life she had, was not the life she wanted, and gnawing ever at her core was the knowledge that her first project ended up shut down instead of glorified for the genius it was. The scientist wanted to join the ranks of her comrades. So much so that she even began to undertake physical training, became an peerless marksman with all types of ranged weapons, but, because she had next to no chakra to work with her stamina wouldn’t allow her to even keep up with Genin. The military held out a hand to offer to train the youth as she had become
that good of a shot, but it only worked to further along a growing depression.
Then, with her large source of funds, she began to become more and more reclusive. Work always came to her door, and it was sent back with no personal comment - just completed. Food was delivered to the address, and no one ever saw her face; only a hand that snaked out to grab the bag. After a year the work started to pile up and the address stopped ordering food. No one knew exactly what Ryuu Rei was up to, or, if she was even actually still alive. She wouldn’t accept personal calls, the door remained unanswered when someone personal came by to see how she was, and in the end, ANBU eventually broke in and found a deserted home. A search was issued to find her or her body immediately due to the host of dangerous secrets she had at her fingertips.
Eventually, they found her inside the city about a week later. She had tucked herself deep within the Cronopolis in a tin shack; a once renowned scientist. Her left leg was missing completely, replaced by a mechanical one that was too painful to stand on from the infection where the flesh refused to bind to machine. The right foot had been mutilated in the attempt to replace bones with “working” metallic ones. Organs were replaced by half-functioning ones, some where just missing totally but it was unsure if they were removed in the name of science, cash, or both. She was immediately sedated and sent to the hospital to have most of the half-baked inventions removed and replaced with organ transplants. Both legs had to be removed, one from gangrene and the other from the misalignment of machine to her chakra coil. The irony there was that due to her weak nature in chakra, they couldn’t supplement her with working mechanical parts that some shinobi used when they lost a limb. When she finally came to, madness had taken it’s hold and she was forced into a mental hospital after the third suicide attempt. For next to an entire year she remained sedated to a point of near comatose, as for the moment they lowered the dosage on any of her behavioral drugs, she would immediately begin doing everything she could to force death’s hand.
It was sometime in the winter months, about a week before she turned 18, when Rei received the visit that changed her life. The doctors had decided to lower her dosage one more time in the attempt to coax her out of the deep well of depression and self-homicidal rage she had fallen into. Nothing seemed to work as Rei continued to remain unresponsive to each therapist until the final one walked in her cell; the Raikage herself. What was said between the two is still a subject of debate, because Kitsune left Rei’s room with the patient in a wheelchair in seemingly full cooperation. In a moment of clarity the staff had never seen, she signed herself out of the ward and calmly allowed the Raikage to set up a simple apartment with a wheelchair access for her to live in; without any supervision. Another year came and went where no word came from Rei, and when her family went to visit to celebrate a year out of the metal hospital, they found the same kind of abandoned apartment that ANBU did two years ago.
Except, this time, it was because she was working alongside shinobi. Carrying herself into the battle on do-or-die missions with a new body made of metal and chakra enriched wood. Her presence inside the community is once again back to the levels it was on her first project. She uses a fake name in public, changes her physical face when she needs to, and keeps private life from work completely separated now as he carries out some of the most dangerous missions for Kumogakure under the ability of being nigh unkillable. Those that have gone with Rei on missions have each reported that she’s been dismembered, beheaded, eviscerated, limbs literally ripped from her body; and not once is she ever been phased. A scroll from her bandolier and the body part is replaced, she switches heads, or an entire new body is summoned. The only part of her that doesn’t chance is a amethyst charged with her original chakra imprint that acts as the host for her soul and personality as well. Due to the fact that her own coil was originally weak and small, the crystal itself is also small enough to go nearly completely undetected. It remains attached to the base of her skull, hooked into the metencephalon muscle group of her brainstem. In theory, Rei believes that so long as that crystal itself survives, she cannot die, and though a lot of injuries might prove her right the fact that her brain itself has never been destroyed leaves the theory open. One thing has been made certain: she has no heart and though she feigns the emotions of a human, Rei is every bit as brutally cold as a saw blade in winter.
