Character's Physical Description: Uxirusu is pretty outwardly eccentric. His dark brown hair varies in style from short and shaved to long and braided, to tribal cut and random. His eyes are crystal blue and his skin is alabaster white. His skin is riddled with seemingly random tattoos, though I'm sure if you asked him he'd have a story for each one. To go along with the lavish imagery, he is regularly pierced in different places all over his body, including his mouth edges and elbows. He is also known to gain dense muscles and weight or wither to bones from year to year. What doesn't change about him? Possibly only his height. Uxirusu stands at 5'11" tall.
Character's Mental Description: The man lives by a motto: Live so loudly that no one has a clue what's lying just underneath. Friend or foe, no one else is welcome in. Uxirusu comes off lavish, obnoxious and strange-humored. His loss and the pain of those he loved so dearly turned an open man, a loving man, into a harsh, realistic one. His real heart is hidden behind a nearly impenetrable wall. Uxi puts his work first, or perhaps second, but only just. He is happy to be a tool for the causes he believes in and a weapon in the hands of his superiors as long as it allows him to protect and care for his #1: Hanami, his daughter. He is a man of strong conviction, loyalty and dependability, but only to those he has sworn himself to. He isn't incredibly likeable and usually a bit of a loner.
Multiple Personality Application: Dx ew
Character History: A disease. A blight. A virus...
Once upon a time Uxirusu was a young boy. Plain and reserved, but hopeful and eager. Once Uxirusu was known as Okida Katashi. He was the 10th living son of Okida Ichida's 18 children. Ichida was a powerful, giant of a man with a chest the size of a barrent and arms the size of small tree trunks. Hana was Katashi's mother and Ichida's 4th 'wife' and Katashi was her only living child.
Ichida had taken 5 'wives'. His first and true wife lived with him in the Hidden Village of Leaf where he and she were born. She knew nothing of his other wives and their families. The other four he married in secret, each from a different shinobi village and knew nothing of any of the others save for Hana. Hana was from stone. She was his favorite. She was beautiful, tall and lean with burning red hair and hazel eyes. He told her everything, he could never hide a secret from her. She was his porcelain doll. However.. there was no love. Ichida did not know how to love. They were all simply possessions and property. He felt by entitlement he deserved each wife and child like a prize for his prowess. In truth, he used them all. He would travel to his 'families' from time to time when the opportunities arose but it could be months or years in between visits. He would come to his wives, stay for a day up to a few weeks then leave. Many times the wives were left pregnant and alone with previous children to care for on their own.
For a long time Katashi knew nothing of his strange family. His mother Hana was careful to hide the truth from him. She wanted to give him a happy, normal life. She had been a shinobi herself until meeting Ichida. To make her obedient and 'safe' he had broken both of her thigh bones a year after their 'marriage', before Katashi was born so she could no longer be a shinobi. It had destroyed her career and ruined her. She grew very depressed and miserable, but hid her sadness from her child as best she could. Though she could not be a shinobi, she could still teach her only child the ways of the ninja. She became Katashi's teacher from toddlerhood, giving him an edge before he would be old enough to join the academy. Since Ichida was only ever around once every year or so, it was easy to conceal. Despite his lack of time in their lives, he demanded his children were raised under his beliefs only. He would punish his wives for disobedience if he found it. Hana kept it all away from her young son and protected him from his wrathful father by putting on a fake face and pretending to be what he wanted her to be while he was around. It was something Kata learned from her later.
But his mind would not always be a child's mind and his wit would grow sharp with the years. By the time Kata had joined the academy at 10, he knew the wretched man his father was and the weak, broken soul his mother was when his father was around. He couldn't understand it either. Why would his mother chose to entertain a man like that? It wasn't as if he was there in their lives all the time. His mother worked and took care of them. She had skills and a kind heart and a sort of quiet strength they could rely on when the times got tough or even dangerous. But around Ichida, she was always smiling and radiant on the outside... but all dark fear on the inside.
It wasn't something he got an answer to right away. Katashi made genin a year after joining the academy and chuunin at age 13, just 2 years later. He was skilled in taijutsu and ninjutsu and could resist the abilities of many genjutsu users. He was praised for his skills and watched carefully by the interested eyes of those above him. Ishida had not visited the boy and his mother for many years. It was because she had lost her 3rd baby, each during mid to late pregnancy, the last when Kata was 9. Ishida had accused her of killing them and beat her almost to the point of death before leaving. It wasn't until Katashi had reached 15 years old that his father returned to the stone village again. By then the boy was more a man than a child. Already at his full height and strong of body and mind, Ishida was not greeted by a meek, scared child and his obedient wife, but a fierce, protective male ready to kill someone who would lay a hand on his mother.
The tall, broad leaf shinobi arrived late one evening. He was on a courier mission apparently and would only be there for 2 nights before leaving Stone. He came into their home as if it was his own, walking in the front door and kicked his boots off. The lines on his face were deeper with age and his hair was starting to silver at the temples. Katashi and Hana were sitting at the dinner table. The food was already eaten, plates and dishes waiting to make their way to the sink in the kitchen and the two were sipping on sake and talking about his last mission. The moment before the old man arrived, just a moment, Hana shivered and seemed to withdraw into herself. It was like a small animal would do when it smelled a mighty predator nearby. Katashi was confused and reached for his mother's hand. She took it away swiftly and put on a glorious smile. She looked 10 years younger! Then the man came in.
Katashi turned toward the sound of the door and his blue eyes narrowed in immediate distrust and anger. He was there. He felt rage boil within him at the sight of the shinobi who now had his back turned to them while he began to remove his cloak and shirt. Katashi was about to rise when his mother's hand was back and touched his arm so gently. "No." Her melodic voice ushered. It was soft, yet commanding. A parent's decisive command to her son. So he stayed sitting, gritting his teeth as the man came into the dining area. With the grace of a feline, his mother rose to greet the man. He descended upon her life a hungry wolf, devouring her mouth in a manner that made Katashi have to bite his tongue had enough to draw blood and look away in disgust. He contemplated gutting the man with a butter knife, skinning him alive with just his nails or taking him to some river and drowning him, that was, until his father spoke. His voice was gruff and mean. "Leave us, boy." That's all. No acknowledgement of him, no consideration, just a command. If his mother didn't plead him with her eyes then he wouldn't have gone, disgusting as it would have been to be in that house at that point. So he rose and fled the house.
When he returned in the morning, Ichida was gone. He had been called back an hour prior, earlier than expected. Katashi found his mother sitting at the dining room table, looking out the window, but not really looking at anything at all. She looked vacant and tired. For everyone else, she wore a guard in the form of a smile, but not to her Katashi. He came to her side, putting a hand on her slim shoulder.
"I did it, you know. He was right." He waited, knowing there was more but it never came.
...
Time flies when you're busy having fun. Katashi fell in love with his life for the next few years. Every mission was sheer delight. He could test his skills in battle, hone what he already knew and increase his knowledge base. He would learn something new on an almost weekly basis. Being a chuunin also meant more responsibility and... more pay. He soon found he had enough monthly income to take over caring for himself and his mother. He persuaded her to move to a new house with him, something bigger and to enjoy her life for a while without worrying how to makes things work for them. And it was good.
For his 18th birthday, Katashi's closest friends, comrades and old genin team got permission to take him out of the village as a present. Their leaders coupled it with a small escort mission so it could be a semi-legitimate reason to let them out of the gates (and turn their heads the other way when they would come home a few days late). A kindness. The group of 10 shinobi traveled from the village and ended up near the northern border where they were able to relax at a small, well known hot spring and resort for a few days until their escortees arrived in the small town nearby. The visit was uneventful and enjoyable in fact, but it was not the highlight of Katashi's 18th birthday. The glowing point of interest was embodied in a young, beautiful girl named Remika. She was slight of frame and stood only 5 feet tall, with long, waist length black hair and pale eyes. Despite her demure appearance, Remika was a fiery soul. She was quick witted and sharp .. and mean. Katashi had never been interested in anyone before her, at least little more than physically, and found himself drawn to her like a moth to a flame.
She was a refugee from the north along with almost 3 dozen others escaping death from a rivalling clan and was their escort mission. It had taken a little over a week for the shinobi group to arrive at the spot near the hot spring so it would take almost 2 weeks to return home with slow refugees under their care. In that time, no danger came to the group, but Katashi was able to get to know Remika. While she had been somewhat resistant at the beginning to his attentions, it didn't take long for her to warm up to Katashi. He learned about her family and why they were fleeing, about her heritage, which was a dormant line of Hyuuga that did not retain the powers of their shinobi cousins, but had the same look as the rest of the clan. She was 16, and perfect in his eyes, perfect in every way.
Young love. By the time they arrived back in stone, he was smitten. He brought her to his home to meet his mother, doted upon her and gave her anything she desired. She was not unkind at first, but her love for Katashi was not like his was for her. However, when asked, she accepted his proposal of marriage only 3 months after her journey to Stone.
Katashi's mother was not pleased with his decision and warned him of his haste, but he didn't heed it. Who would listen when they thought they had found their true soul mate?
It was not to be and it wasn't too surprising. Remika's sweetness and love gave way to bitter resentment. All her charms melted away as the initial infatuation died. Though Katashi was still in denial about it, the marriage lasted only a year.
The experience taught him some severe lessons about life and trust; mistakes he swore not to endure again. Not that he kept to them so well...
After the divorce Katashi threw himself into his training. He was so angry with himself and his poor judgement that he burned away the piss-tasting memories of his ex-wife by committing to long, dangerous missions and working on his fighting technique. It was the year he truly found his inner strength. He had always been skilled at water ninjutsu (as it was his chakra elemental affinity) but he was able to draw on the influences of both lightning and earth. From it he was able to merge the elements and master two forms of ninjutsu; acid and crystal.
His taijutsu was greatly improved as well by pitting himself against those in the village with better mastered taijutsu skill than his own and found a deep love of hand to hand fighting.
By his 21st, Katashi had joined the stone ANBU as one in training. It opened up a whole new tree of abilities to learn... and a whole new realm of dangerous missions to immerse himself in. It was following his 5th A-rank ANBU mission, shortly before he would be accepted as a full member of the squad that he found love again. A mild tempered, plumpish young woman by the name of Nami. She was the epitome of generic. Slightly chubby, brown eyes and brown hair, slight tan/peach complexion, 5'5" and shy enough to not be the most notable person in a room but bold enough not to be run over. She was a newly promoted mednin and the head of his case. He had been injured away from Stone in a mission to sabotage a trade line to an enemy village and returned on his comrades back. He and his squad had been ambushed. Two of them had died, only he and his leader survived. Katashi had been caught on the edge of an explosion, the one that had killed his companions, and tore the right side of his body to ribbons. He was bleeding so badly he was unconscious upon arrival.
When he awoke in the med-nin's care, he was being tended to by Nami. Her sweet smile was the first vision he had after being out for 5 days. Round cheeks, dimples reminded him of a young girl and her genuine care, that which radiated from her very being, reminded him of his mother. It was probably the latter that resonated with him subconsciously as he got to know and fall in love with her.
It took Katashi 2 weeks before he was released from the medical center and from the medic's care. Nami remained his medic for his entire stay and became his girlfriend after he left.
This time around, Katashi knew better than to jump into it so quickly. Still, he found himself falling deeply in love with the girl. She was 2 years younger than him, but probably 10 years older inside. Her view of life was grounded but good and she brought out the best of Katashi. He married her a year later.
Nami was pregnant another year later. He brought his mother to live with Nami and him as for some reason her health was declining badly. And it was good. His life was good.
Yet, happiness can be bittersweet. You can have it one day and lose it the next. Katashi was going on 24. He was a full fledged ANBU member and had taken the Jounin exam only a month prior to his 22nd birthday, passing and getting promoted to the elite shinobi status. Nami had quit her career to become a full-time wife and mother and was due in only 2 short months. News travelled to Stone that the hidden village of Leaf had broken out in civil war and that it was likely to come crumbling down from the power struggle that had erupted there. Though he hadn't seen of or thought of his father in years, it reminded him that he could be killed in this struggle or be forced to leave. He felt no shame in hoping he would meet Shinigami.
But luck wouldn't be on their side. The man came with a wave of new refugees from leaf, seeking refuge from the devastation. His leaf family had all died, or so he claimed upon entry and he came seeking to be here with Katashi and Hana. Thing was, Katashi was away on another mission when his father arrived. He came to Stone and found his wife and son had moved, tracked them down and came into their home as if it were his own.
When Katashi returned to the village two days later, he was brought to the medical building where he found his mother murdered, strangled to death and his father had hung himself. The shock and pain that ripped through him was tampered only by his fear for the life of his wife and child. They were there too.
Katashi was led to her room where she was ashen white and plugged and latched up to every machine there. He fell to her side, taking her hand in his. Another medic came in and told him that a man... they didn't even know who he was yet, had broken into his house while he was gone. He had been drunk and beat his mother violently and thrown Nami into a wall before strangling his mother to death. Nami had apparently woken up to find the man had hung himself in their living room and she and started to bleed.
They rushed Nami to the medic center where she was given an emergency c-section for their baby who was under severe distress. She had suffered internal damage from the hit the man had given her and the way she had hit the wall trying to protect her belly. She was now bleeding and had even suffered a hemorrhage from the trauma. Their premie baby was alive, but in another area of the medical department and being handled by the intensive care unit.
Katashi could not leave Nami's bedside and he was allowed time away from his duties to deal with his family issues. And despite their attempts, Nami passed away 2 days later from complications. Grief stricken, and without any real answers, Katashi was left to deal with his losses. He was alone, utterly miserable and alone. Well not completely.
He had a daughter. She was making it, despite her own small injuries and early start. Katashi went to meet her for the first time a week after losing Nami. She was tiny, only 1 lb 8 oz and was holding onto life like a fighter. His utter hopelessness and loss gave way to fierce protectiveness and the desire to care for the gem his beloved wife left behind. He stayed there with his new daughter, barely leaving her for the first 3 months of her life. Hanami he named her after his wife and his mother. She had survived.
Yet he couldn't bring himself to raise her. He was sure he was a curse now, a virus...a blight. He had let his family die, hadn't he? So he made arrangements to find Hanami an adoptive family. It didn't take too long. No one is ever interested in adopting a lost child who is already old enough to know how their parents died. People wanted babies. So since there were already tons of orphans needing homes who couldn't find them, Hanami was accepted quickly.
The new family were civilians. They were both older, mid-30's and had been unable to have children. They happily agreed to take Hanami as their own with his stipulations. She was never to know who he was or that she had been adopted out. He would like to see her from far away, but not to worry, he wouldn't intercede. If she chose to become a shinobi someday, he wanted to be able to help her without her knowing who he was. And he wanted to help pay for her financially. Though they did not need the money, he felt obligated to leave some for her care at their door regularly.
He then requested the village leaders to allow him to take a new name and hide his personal information so his daughter could be raised by another family and not be able to trace back to him. She was safer without him. He adopted the name Uxirusu. Those who knew him previously, almost all had either died or moved on with their own lives so it was almost like starting new.
In addition, he changed his appearance. It happened slowly at first, but before long he was so very different than the normal looking man he was before. Tattooed, pierced, lavish, reckless. What had started as a mask became his persona and actuality.
Now, 28, Uxirusu simply is. He has no ambition for his life and no drive other than to see his child grow up strong and safe. He threw himself more deeply into his shinobi life than ever before. Who knows, maybe all he needs is to find religion?
