Physical Appearance: Kyoshi has the small frame of a boy his age, as well as the leaniest amount of muscle beginning to form due to the basic shinobi training and discipline his father has instilled in him. While this has yet to make him physically striking in any way, a well trained eye will still be able to pick up on the boy's athletic build. Framed in shaggy black hair, Kyoshi sports a small face with big grey eyes and otherwise small features. The first thing someone will notice about Kyoshi is his red glasses, which he wears more to enhance his sight then out of actual necessity. Typically dressed in simple grey or black clothing suitable for students of the Shinobi Academy of Kumogakure, Kyoshi doesn't make much effort to express his individuality through his appearance, preferring the simplistic and practical attire commonly worn in the cold climate of the Hidden Cloud village. The only other exceptions to this besides his glasses, is the symbol of his clan on the back of his clothing and the multitude of bandages wrapped around his hands, arms, and legs, covering every inch of his skin not otherwise covered by clothing save for his neck and face.
Personality: A bit naive and by no means intimidating, this shy lad can still clearly be seen as a ninja in training, baring the marks of time spent hardening his metal against the training offered to him by his father. Still, Kyoshi lacks a certain depth to his discipline and even his skills as a shinobi require far more training. Even so, and perhaps because Kyoshi is still a bit naive of the world, partly due to his isolation is the Saito compound, yet mostly due to age, the young member of the Saito Clan is genuinely happy to have been accepted into the Shinobi Academy of Kumogakure. Despite understanding what will be required of him going forward, Kyoshi is mostly excited about the possibility of making friends who aren't necessarily related to him. This doesn't make Kyoshi carefree however, as he is constantly aware of his duty to exceed in his studies like his sister before him, and to carry on the Saito name as a Shinobi of Kumogakure. It's the crippling dread of disappointing those that expect so much from him that keeps his more childish tendencies at bay.
History: Growing up in the Saito compound, Kyoshi was isolated from the rest of the village and the world beyond for most of his early years, having only seen the outside on the rare occasions his sister would let him climb on top of their home's roof. Kyoshi knows little about the everyday lives of his fellow Cloud citizens, and is only familiar with the village's layout via maps, given to him by his father for study. Despite this, Kyoshi can't really complain, after all it would be disrespectful to his elders within the clan and cast a shadow of his father, a respected veteran of the Cloud's ANBU.
Kyoshi's father, Kaito, having been injured and permanently disabled on a mission more than a decade ago, did the only thing a member of the Saito clan could in such a situation. he married, settled down, and began having children to carry on his legacy where he could not. Kyoshi's mother was a refugee from the Land of Tea, and while not a shinobi herself, she was of Hyuuga blood, making her a perfect candidate for marriage. Once married, Kaito and his new bride, Ahmya, had a daughter named Ayashi shortly after, with Kyoshi following four years later, and most recently, a daughter named Kaida. Being raised in such a sheltered environment has imprinted upon Kyoshi the value of family and his duty to his clan.
Being trained by his father from the time he could walk, and sparring with his older sister since the time he could wield a quarterstaff, Kyoshi is no stranger to bruises and the pain that comes from failure. It has been a constant companion for as long as he can remember, and the punishment for that failure still motivates the young Saito to develop his skills and be the best shinobi he can be for his clan and his village. This was made more difficult by the fact that his older sister Ayashi is somewhat of a prodigy, having been accepted for training to become a future ANBU shortly out of the Academy. The days and nights Kyoshi has spent in his family's garden, training with his sister and father has prepared him for what is to come during his time at the academy and hopefully beyond.
With so little knowledge of what life is like outside the Saito compound, Kyoshi has little idea of what to expect. Luckily, his older sister, Ayashi, has told him a lot about the outside since she went to the Shinobi Academy before him, but with her new missions and training, Kyoshi gets to see and train with his older sister less and less frequently and with little Kaida being to young to begin her own training, not only does Kyoshi spend most of his time training with his father alone, Ayashi isn't there to take the brunt of their father's frustrations, leaving Kyoshi to endure a new level of physical training more demanding than ever before. The bruises of his many failures covered by the many bandaged Kyoshi wears over his body. Due to Ayashi's stories and the physical discipline of their father, Kyoshi can't help but look forward to his time outside the compound and excited to enter the Academy.
