Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

[col]There was one way to describe Nanami right now.

She was lost.

Hopelessly and terribly lost.

It wasn't her fault! She was so used to her small town on Hashima Island. This village, this city, was at least twenty times larger than her hometown! She had asked directions towards the nearest, cheapest hotel so that she had a place to stay. And she did follow said directions...

Okay, maybe she didn't follow them exactly. The new surroundings, the interesting sights, had distracted her and had left her feet wandering.

So here she was... wherever this is. Although, judging by the amount of little people running about, this was a school of some kind. Most likely shinobi. She didn't think a civilian school would be this well equipped.

"Great... just great, Mizushima. Now, they might think you're here to kidnap their children," she sighed, scratching her cheek. The doctor didn't even realize she had said that out loud. Her thoughts were often so loud that she would think they were her own speech. She'd think something, when she was supposed to say it and she would say something, when she was supposed to think it. That got her into funny situations sometimes.

Still, maybe she could ask one of the older kids for directions. Directions to the nearest adult at least, as she doubted they would want anything to do with such an old woman like her. And she doubted the local children would know where the cheap hotels are, seeing as they live here.

"I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you have NO idea where you are." Raito said from his perch. He was sitting atop a rather large stone boulder eating a papaya when he heard some lady speak aloud something she probably shouldn't have, especially on the grounds of a shinobi school. He was still lying on his back when he made the announcement of his existence, still munching on his fruit, when he finally decided to role over and examine the person before him. She wasn't a Shinobi, that was obvious, and she didn't appear to be from the city, but that was obvious since she looked lost, not to mention was talking about kidnapping kids. Standing up from his perch, throwing the rest of his snack aside, and brushing his hands off on his pants, he said, addressing his new aquiantance, "Name's Hitoshi Raito, and if you're lost, which you really look like you are, I'm probably the best person, at least in the nearby vicinity, who can help you find you're way."

Raito jumped down from the rock and stood before the lady, in all his young, five foot three inch glory, which really wasn't too impressive, but he didn't care, and continued boldly, "So, whatcha looking for? Room and board? Drink and Nightlife? little underground market stuff? promise I won't judge, my hands aren't exactly the cleanest either." He leaned in a little quieter for that last part, his hood undoubtedly too close for the average person to enjoy. Raito was simply bored and needed to get back to the life he was familiar with, not the pretty life of the clan families and there privileged brats, but the slums and the streets and the noise. This was too calm, to dull, and just. so. irritating! Maybe this newcomer could make his life less quiet.

[col]The doctor's expression was caught somewhere between a grin and a grimace at being so obvious. She couldn't just wipe off her expression, school her thoughts on a whim in a casual situation like this as your orthodox shinobi was most likely prone to do. The woman was a civilian, in the crudest sense of the word. So it came as no big surprise that a student could easily decipher her reasons, or lack thereof, for being here.

"Doctor Mizushima Nanami," was her immediate response at seeing the kid.

It was a defence mechanism for potential hostiles. If they knew of her line of work, they were less likely to bode her any ill will. At least, that was the case back at home. She was rather well known for being the odd civilian shinobi doctor. They left her plenty alone, knowing the money in her wallet went to the clinic and the medicine in her pharmacy. They knew she did good work. Here? Not so much.

But she knew his type from a glance, at the very least. Sewer rats. Street urchins. Although, on the island, they had called them Port Frogs with the way they tried to sneak onto boats for one reason or another. He wasn't one of those big shinobi hotshot kids who thought they were too good for their britches. The unkempt hair and baggy clothes said as much. She wouldn't begrudge them of the lengths they went to, in order to survive. It was not their fault they were borne of poverty.

Nanami was a Port Frog, once upon a time too.

The boy looked well enough for a Port Frog (did Sand even have ports?). He had been eating after all... and a healthy papaya too, which she approved of. And at a height of five foot three, it meant his health wasn't completely compromised unlike her own when she was a youth. Just look. The doctor herself was at a height of five foot three.

But you can't just rub the streets off like you, just like that. It had taken her a while, years, to be even considered seriously in the medical profession.

"If you're really offering to help, I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth," the woman shrugged, her mouth twitching into a kind smile. The kid was blunt, she'd give him that. "I was actually looking for a place to stay. The cheaper, the better. Although, on principle, I'm going to ask what exactly you're doing with black market knowledge, kid."

"Hey, guy needs a fence," Raito bluntly announced, shrugging at her question of his understandings of the seedier side of the world, "As for a cheap place where you can lay down comfortably and not get your stuff ganked from you while you're sleeping, I suggest Burū jūkyo. It's a decent little motel about a quarter mile that way," Raito pointed up the road with one hand, fully open to indicate he hadn't stolen anything himself, after having just mentioned that stuff like that happened, and he may or may not have been involved with said stuff in the past. In reality, the thought of being helpful to at least one person other than his twin brother was refreshing for once. He and Yami had spent the last three years only watching out for each other, so the slight change of pace to being among others was nice, to say the least. At least my knowledge is useful..

"Also, there's a little ramen shop just across the way from the motel's entrance, that has some pretty decent noodles, that I swear won't get you sick like most of the others will, but there, you most definitely need to keep a keen eye on your wallet." Raito took a quick look over at this doctor, this, Nanami was it? She wasn't very tall, actually about his height. Then again Yami and him did seem to grow at a disturbing rate. Is that just how tall adults normally get? He was curious, to say the least, about her reasons for being here when, to his knowledge, the gates were still sealed shut.

"So," He began, taking off his hood to reveal the full fledged unkempt beauty of his jet black hair and crystal blue eyes, "What brings you to Suna? I'm assuming you're not from around here, otherwise you wouldn't be asking a street rat where things are." Also, how in the hell did you get in the city without the Cabal detecting you?! He kept his thoughts to himself, but his curiosity was shown as clear as daylight. If she told him, it would be because shefelt like disclosing the information, not because he asked...yet.

OOC: Glad to join, always fun to meet new people. ^_^ and if you want to make an av/sig, that'd be cool. I've already asked one of the shops, but i like options, ya know? lol plus my IRL/IC brother will need one, which I could pay for if you need me to.

[col]With an amused chuckle, the woman shook her head and shrugged. She doubted the boy could get into too much trouble, with the number of older, stronger shinobi around here. He probably only did courier work and pickpocketing for the yen... smuggling, at the very worst. As long as he didn't maim, murder or a third horrible thing (which she rather not think of), she didn't feel like meddling with it. It wasn't like she could take the kid with her or give him a legitimate job. Or a home (but she rather not think of having children either, at this moment).

"That sounds good. But, like I said... the cheaper, the better. I think I can handle myself against your common thief," she hummed. To emphasis her point, she let her chakra flare. Civilian she may look and act like, she was technically a shinobi who had the basic grasp on using her power and energies.

It certainly took enemies past off guard, ones who'd thought she was an easy mark. The harmless doctor. It couldn't be further from the truth... and even she herself didn't know that.

She wasn't picky about food either. Sanitary or not, she had a pretty good immune system given her skills... well, except when she had exhausted her chakra from overuse of medical techniques. Then, her immune system would be shot to hell. She assumes it's the cost she has to pay with healing others to the extremes. Equivalent exchange of sorts, although not always equal. She had brought several patients back from the brink of death, after all, and all she'd had to pay was a week with an annoying fever.

A hand on her hip, she nodded. "I'm from the Water Country, actually. Not Kirigakure... that whole village has been a frozen wasteland for a while now, no. Hashima Island. It's pretty unknown; small compared to here," she informed him. Questions about her being able to go through with the recent chaos didn't even come to the woman's mind. As far as she knew, all was honky dory considering how much trouble shinobi got into. Even if she was involved in the whole terrorist mess at Toraono Dojo. "It's my first time in the big city actually. I've travelled a bit before but I kept to the outlands most of the time."

  • That's a good RPing attitude! Keep at it.

I'll make you and your brother a set each, as soon as I'm able. Just a bit busy right now. No need to pay; not that it's allowed anyway. It used to be.

But I do like twins. The character I had before this one was a set of (surgically) conjoined twins.

Is THIS close to what you guys had in mind, when thinking up the twins' look?

Nanami was confident, Raito had to give her that, but when she demonstrated her control over her chakra, Raito was slightly shocked, and very impressed. Most of his teacher's hadn't even demonstrated that to them; the sheer power of their chakra flow, and to be able to bring it that close to the surface and still control it. Raito caught himself staring, eyes wide and smiling bigger than ever. That is cool. Focusing and looking her in the eyes finally, Raito spoke up saying, "Alright, color me impressed. Cheapest hotel you can get is 'Akashingō', which is about 5 yen a night, and smells like booze and dirty sex, and yes, i know what that smells like, and by the gods, I wish I didn't." Raito shuddered as his memory almost brought the smell back to his nostils. I don't care how easy it is to swipe a coin purse, I'm so not going in there again... Once again, bringing himself back to focus, he cleared his thoat and continued, "It's about an hours walk outside this tunnel, and into the Grand Palais, or the dust market, or whatever you wanna call it, depending on who you ask. For me and my brother, that's home.... not Akashingō, the market." Throwing his hood of his cowl back on, and readjusting the fabric so it sat more comfortably, Raito started walking up the tunnel, "I'm done with school today, so I'll just walk you there so you don't get lost again." He added that last part as a playful tease to the doctor. Sure, she could probably twist him inside out with her mind, but sometimes, it was fun to just laugh at the small things, and if she couldn't take it, he'd know soon enough.

"So, Water Country. Think my dad went there once before. Can't remember really.." Raito trailed off slightly as he mentioned his dead father. When the anarchy started, his parents were some of the first to lose their lives, and Raito and Yami, the first to lose their parents. He quickly continued, brushing passed the thoughts, "So what's an island like? I've only ever known sand and tunnels, really. I mean, I've seen vids and pictures, but I know that's not the same. I'm sure the size makes it nice and quiet." Then Nanami said something that caught his attention. "Wait, this is your first time in Sunagakure and you want to stay in a broth- I mean, cheap hotel? No, see, that's just not ok." Raito stopped and stood directly in front of her. "Here's what up, Doc, if this is your first time here, you need to spend your night in the Desert Crown, the nicest part of the city. I know a nice place, still not to pricey, but at least there's running water that is clear, not off-white." He smiled broadly, sizing her up, and the pointing with a grin, "What you need is 'Gōrudensaboten', which may or may not have the best damn whiskey in the city." Was that too obvious? no, I'm still good. "Not to mention a nice sized, not huge, but decent, bathhouse." Raito turned and started walking again, "If this is your first time in the city, then I can't allow you to stay the night anywhere else!"

MFT WC: 550

[col]She reigned in her chakra as soon as she could. For all that it was useful, she still felt uncomfortable flaunting it about. As far as she was concerned, her chakra was like a jacket... a thick, fluffy jacket that, when worn too long and under the wrong circumstances, could become really stifling.

Five yen a night? Now that was a steal. Heck, she'd just picked up a hundred yen coin a while ago... One of the reasons she had gotten lost, with its distraction, most likely. She could put up with the disgusting perfume of that place if it meant bringing home more money for the clinic. There had been a pretty bad outbreak of malaria, last she heard from her doctors before entering the Great Village...

"Oh, hush you. I've been in every Elemental Country all over the world. It's not my fault all your buildings look the same to me," Nanami huffed good naturedly, falling into step next to the boy.

"But the island is nice enough. I could be biased, of course. You go far enough any direction and you'll be greeted by the ocean; either a port or a long forgotten beach. Water and sand and the sun. We have to be careful when we get monsoons or tidal waves, sure, but the local shinobi keeps us safe from those well enough." Sometimes, for the proper fees, of course. It wouldn't be too rare to be saved by a shinobi from the local Mercenary Guild, 最高人民 (Saiko Jinmin), only to be charged with a bill afterwards. There was at least a fifty percent chance of that happening. Although, the doctor mostly sent them packing if they ever so much as think to charge and heckle her patients and fellow medics.

The doctor waved a hand around and shrugged. "You'd think it'd be quiet. Maybe in the afternoons, when everyone is taking their siestas. Otherwise, there are children and animals everywhere and the rowdy, loud fishermen and work people and gossiping old ladies. Not to mention all the ports, with vendors and ships and barkers. It's lively and everyone knows almost everyone." Not most of the shinobi though, what with their secretive nature.

What could have been half way through their walk though, Raito blocked her way. She had to pause and blink. For all the work she did with people, she was still not quite used to enthusiastic children. Sick, weepy and weary ones, yes... But, most of the time, she handled the older patients who often liked to call her a meddling kid.

She had to take in what he said. The woman was borderline genius when it came to her practice and to academics. But such things...

"Do I really have to?" she whined. "I'm not really one for whiskey. The only alcohol I like is the antiseptic kind. And are you sure you're not trying to make me get a nice place, so you and your brother could crash in the extra space?" she added the last part with a grin.

Raito chuckled, then turned and continued walking. Someone ain't used to dealin' with little people. Raito finally observed. "Please," He said, masking the source of his amusement, "If I wanted to stay in one of those rooms, I would, and not many would notice. The rich seem...blind, to anything around them. Unless it's adding to their expanscious wealth, of course." Raito remembered living in a nice, middle class home with his parents, never really wanting for much more than time in the day to enjoy it all, but that seemed so long ago now. Another life.. Looking over his shoulder as he walked on, he continued back to the previous statements of different countries, "As for your islands and such, you'll find we have plenty of Sun and Sand. its water that you wouldn't find an abundance of here. It must be nice, though. Water is such a cool thing, relieving one of there overheated bodies and fatigued souls. I sometimes find it amazing that the village has lasted as long as it has."

Raito could tell that she really wasn't wanting to spend a whole lot, for reasons he didn't know, but it really wasn't his place to ask, so he remained silent on the matter. If anything, sending her anywhere in the city right now was dumb. she could lose all her coin, and possibly her life, even if she could handle herself, Raito didn't want the thought of having blood on his hands this early in life. He slowly came to a stop an sighed. "Ok, look, I don't have any idea how you managed to get inside the village without triggering the explosives, but let me fill you in as best I can. We're in it bad right now," Should I even be telling her this? Can I trust her? Raito struggled with his inner thoughts, but continued, "There's an organization that call themselves 'The Cabal', and they've kinda taken the city by storm. I don't know all of what you saw on your way down here, but the city is a mess. the Grand Palais is run by the mafia, more or less, with drug cartels and gamblers and the like flourishing. The Levels are worse..." Raito trailed off, thinking of his family and their once beautiful little home. He remembered why he and his brother fled to the lower markets, and why he was now training to become a shinobi. "The levels, where most of the housing for the middle class used to exist, is now home to a psychotic bunch of escaped, or rather released, inmates who call themselves "The Hand of the Cabal", and they have public executions on the regular, just for shits and giggles, inside the temple." Raito's voice broke for a brief moment as he felt his emotions well up inside him like a sandstorm, "As for the Desert Crown, well, you might want to carry a painting at your side just to blend in. Rapists and looters galore. The only place left for safety in this GODsFORSAKEN village is the academy that you just happened to stumble upon. Even the Hospital is up to it's neck in filth from the Cabal and their never ending clutch on my home!"

Raito stopped. He realized afterward that his voice had elevated to a shout, and that he was facing Nanami, his eyes shut in a squint, trying desperately to hold back tears of pain and anger. Taking the time to slow his breathing, Raito wiped his nose and eyes on his sleeve, and cleared his throat. "If you want a free place to stay, the hospital might have a few extra beds, but the academy back there is always open to those who oppose the anarchy outside. Sorry I lost my nerve." Raito just stood there, too ashamed to look her in the eyes. You can't even keep calm when talking about The Cabal, how do you expect to help anyone...

OOC: That'd still be awesome! only difference between my character and my brothers is that my eyes are ice blue, his are bright violet.

[col]Motioning incredulously to the village's ever present ceiling, she hummed: "Sand sure. Your home is basically in a sand castle. But I don't see how we'll get any real sunlight here, unless people are allowed to just frolic out of the tunnels for Vitamin C." The whole place was underground. It was a wonder anybody could even live in here. An island had at least the basic necessities of most living organisms.

She sobered up though, when she heard the kid's real motives.

It was one thing to be a Port Frog on an island where, although none would admit it, the corrupt ran the government. But it was a whole other thing to live in the equivalent of a sand prison, worried about terrorists threats, of all things. Had she known that her entry might have triggered explosives, she would have stayed far well away. "I apologize. I didn't know the situation was so dire... although, I was aware of the situation with the Cabal," she tried to say in a comforting manner.

Taking a step towards Raito, she carefully placed a hand on her shoulder. Careful as can be... she remembered that she disliked being touched by strangers, especially by adults, when she roamed the streets as a kid.

The doctor didn't know if she should bring up the fact that she had aided some of the locals with the Cabal threat, back before she was granted full entry into the village. She decided, for the moment, to keep that information to herself. The woman didn't particularly know if her actions were to be seen as good or not.

"Maybe... I should stay in the Academy? It's a free roof over my head that isn't made of sand, after all. And I can make sure you snot nosed brats aren't getting sick or anything." Her tone was light as she suggested this.

She didn't mention that, maybe, she could keep them safe too if the place's safety was compromised.

"Meh, real or fake, sun is sun. Modern tech has helped to make sure we're not all a bunch of pasty white freaks to sensitive to UV rays." Raito muttered quietly, slight amusement in his tone. He welcomed the touch of another human being. He never really got that all too often anymore. Even Yami was distant. Raito looked up, the biggest grin he could muster through the pain, "Sorry. Didn't mean to break down on you like that. just got a little carried away I guess."

Raito started running up the tunnel, away from the school, shouting behind him as he ran, "Well, you know where the school is! you might as well stick around, now! and Welcome to Sunagakure!!" and with that, he left her, bolting up the tunnel to the next chamber. he had to go buy some supplies for what he was intending on doing. I can't hold it in any longer. I need to let others know how I feel. They need to know...

[col]Her lips quirked at the mention of modern tech.

What they had... the technology they had was wondrous to say the least. But she felt that the advancement of it was being held back by the presence of shinobi. Why create new things when shinobi could just as easily take care of it, after all? But, she was not going to mention it out loud to the boy. After all, he was a shinobi in training.

And she briefly wondered if the contact was a bad move on her part. He didn't say anything about it being so or otherwise. She assumed it was, anyway, with the hasty retreat the boy was planning to do. Not that she would stop him. It was not her place to do so and she would like to give him his space, if that was the case.

Instead, she raised a hand and gave a wave. "Well, then, you be careful. Wouldn't want to find out from someone else that... something happened to you. And if you come back here in time for dinner, maybe with that brother of yours, I'll treat you two to food."

It didn't seem too tasteful, tactless, if she were to joke about him being blown up by terrorists. Although a certain morbid, realistic part of her had almost said it. Wouldn't want to find out from someone else that you got blown up. Tactless. And he's survived so far, even without her around.

Unfortunately, his departure left her as lost as ever.

Without another soul in sight, as far as she could see.
