It was like a sea of stars as far as the eye could see. Yet, it was not like the stars separated by the void that inhabited the night sky, but instead one that was harnessed and compressed into one massive endless star. Yet, here in the Diamond Ocean, they were merely grains of polished glass. The sun beamed down its uncaring light, hot and cruel upon the sea, and the tiny grains of glass reflected that light upwards towards the heavens. For weary would-be travelers, this meant that one had to contend with the light of the noonday sun twice. Sure it was pretty at night, but this place was a killer. Strangely, it had always been. Once upon a time, it was the host of the Diamond Maelstrom, and now that the eternal storm had finally died the land it was hiding, this land, and its bones and the dead were finally revealed. All of the signs and warnings had been there; it was a mistake to come here. Especially unprepared.
The Curiosity of Ryuzaki Megumi had gotten the better of her and led her into the Diamond Ocean without any sort of proper protection. The Desert sun, she was used to, having lived a life in the arid lands of Sunagakure, but the combination of the lights above and below was a bit much. It felt like she was crawling around in an oven. Her bare feet stung from stepping on the tiny grains of glass which were hot enough that she thought she was going to melt! The jewelry she had adorned herself with as well had grown quite hot in the weather and against her skin. It was only out of sheer stubbornness that she hadn’t taken any of it off. Take that sun! I defy you! Those were her thoughts. Still, it didn’t do much against the heat, and made things worse. Like little beads, sweat dripped down from her skin.
She paused a put a hand over her eyes as she squinted at the wavering shape on the horizon. It was… It was.. Water! An Oasis! She found one! ”Yess!~” She pumped her fist in victory and ran through the sand giggling and laughing all the way. The speed was rather refreshing as the desert wind evaporated the sweat on her skin and released the hit that had been retained in her body. It felt so good that she decided to start doing cartwheels and handstands too! She flipped and fell into the glass on her back and laughed at the sensation. When she sat up she realized that the water was gone! ”What!? It was a mirage!?” She groaned and looked back up at the sky. ”Humph! I should have brought more to drink. Come on, past me, why did you have to be so short-sighted.” Megumi got back on her feet and kicked at the sand, feeling the drain of the sunlight on her stamina as she continued her search for either water or civilization.
