Name: Shingetsu Sora
Rank: Genin
Age:15
Race: ??? [Unrevealed member of the Water Court]
Physical Description: Relatively thin, Sora has an average build of an average male teenager who gets a fair amount of exercise. Standing at a respectable 5’5’(165.1 cm), Sora is close enough to average height to warrant attention from his peers. With an earthy skin tone and equally brown eyes, Sora is an uncommon but not rare sight in his native Wind Country. When using his inborn talents it isn’t uncommon for his eyes to glow with chakra turning his natural brown eyes a hue between white and blue. One to express himself outwardly despite being somewhat of an introvert, Sora often wears his hair in styles traditional to those of a nomadic lifestyle and his style of dress can be considered especially bohemian for Sunagakure.
Mental Description: Raised by nomadic parents, Sora was always taught to hide his uniqueness and to simply blend in. As such, when his parents eventually thought it best for him to attend the academy in Sunagakure in order to experience the world, he kept up the appearance of simply being average despite being capable of much more than that. Not quite a prodigy but certainly not the weakest student in his class, Sora is very much the sort of person to go with the flow of life and to not extend himself overly much, one way or the other. Though he often seeks to keep an even ebb and flow on his emotions, Sora often finds his mood just ever so noticeably changing with the phases of the Moon. With a New Moon he feels more at peace and during a Full Moon he feels a frenzy that he can’t quite shake. It’s not enough of a pull to make him feel like abandoning his morals but it’s enough of a mental itch for him to feel inclined to at least think about the possibility of such.
History: Born to nomadic parents, Sora was a bright eyed miracle of a child between two parents that had eloped. Though it was never expressed to him, the truth of his lineage was that his mother was something special, something akin to royalty but neither her nor his father ever spoke on it in front of him and the most that he understood on the matter was what he overheard when they thought that he was sleeping at night.
What Sora was sure of despite that was the fact that he was quite special. On the day that he was born, instead of being born with the clan traits of his father, he was instead born with a specialness that indicated to his parents that they were right to elope as they had. Able to bend light, the ability manifested itself soon after he was born when under a New Moon, he seemingly disappeared in his crib while crying. His father at first panicking, it was his mothers quick thinking to begin singing that soothed his cries and caused him to reappear right where he had been all along, unharmed and eager for his mother’s attention.
On that day, Sora’s parents abandoned their life with his fathers nomadic clan and headed East towards the village of Sunagakure, changing their name and leaving behind all traces of their past lives entirely. Growing up, Sora’s parents never spoke much on the subject of who his grandparents were, where they were or even the true intimate details of his birth. When eventually he entered the world of shinobi as a bright eyed child, he much like the orphans had no great familial story to tell. Quite sure that his parents were lying to him but far too respectful to speak to them on the matter, Sora did as he was told and climbed his way through the academy remembering the lessons that they had taught him.
BL Application: At his parents' insistence, Sora always kept toward the middle of his class, grade wise and skill wise. When it had at last come to the final exam before graduation, he, like many students, was paired up with a partner and told that he had ten minutes to utilize the very skills and lessons that he had been taught in the academy to prove that he was worthy of graduating onto the next level.
Not a pacifist and certainly not one to pursue violence, Sora went through the motions of sparring his classmates, losing some bouts and winning others. When it had at last come to his supposed rival, the emotional level headedness that he normally exemplified was lost when the student that he was paired with started to verbally assault his lack of true family name. In a society that highly valued and rewarded those with a legacy of lineage, one with a clearly “fake” name such as his was regarded as no different than a true orphan.
With no legacy there were less chances in life to move up, less people to recognize your name and give you the benefit of the doubt, less people to owe you favors. While a fist would have normally done the trick, in Sora’s case, the words struck true to his deepest feelings about the lies surrounding his upbringing and his rival managed to lock up his joints with a weak genjutsu attack.
Upset, enraged, and utterly embarrassed that he’d allowed such a silly tactic to work against him, for a moment, Sora lost control and despite all the training in control that he’d mustered up over the years, he bent light once more and disappeared, only this time, he dragged someone else with him. Causing the light of day to seemingly darken at his whim, despite not being able to quite explain it, Sora felt a sense of being that he’d never felt before. While he recognized the rage that was within him, what he didn’t recognize was the sense of being drawn towards the Moon like a moth to a flame.
It called to him like one might to a favored friend or even a lover and despite being a teenage boy with no thought of fancy, he wanted more of that feeling and using his ability to bend light around him was one such way of tapping into that addictive feeling. In what felt like seconds to him, he reached out towards a Moon that only he could see and try as he might, he couldn’t quite grab hold of it. Barely scratching at it with his fingertips, it was the blaring horn that finally drew him back to reality as the exam proctors sounded the alarm that the match was over. Snapped back to reality, he looked on in a confused wonder as he saw the shadowed tendrils of chakra let go of the boy across from him and dissipate in a shadowy smoke.
For as long as he could remember, his ability to bend light was always predicated on the fact that he was under the cover of a relative darkness and contained only to his person yet in this instance it was fully daytime and he’d managed to bend light in such a way that he’d manifested a physical lack of light in a way to attack someone else. Confused, afraid and even more embarrassed when the other students looked on at him in as much shock as he had with himself, Sora retreated from the exam grounds, content to find out later if he’d passed or not.
He wasn’t sure of what had happened but of what he could recall from the sensation that he had just experienced, he could hear the sound of many waters ringing in his ears when he’d gazed at the daytime Moon. He had no explanation for what had happened but he’d recalled once overhearing his parents speak about the maddening of a particular individual in a Court of Water. Sora wasn’t sure what it meant but if he was going crazy himself then his parents were going to have to explain some things to him.
WC= 696 (will be using this as a training post for this account which will most likely be considered late training since I’m posting on a Friday)
***Applying for Nara but RPing it as the ability to bend light based upon an innate ability granted to him based on being a member of the Water Court.
I’m wanting it to be an eventually resolved mystery if he’s actually a young Ancient, Hybrid or something else entirely despite him exhibiting traits of being an Ancient or Hybrid and organically make the discovery through interacting with the plot. With little being presented about the Water Court I feel like this will make for a better experience playing such a being. I’ve reached out to Suzaku concerning this matter and will go along with his direction and/or Council’s on the matter. ***
