Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The area surrounding Yousuke was flooded with people shifting through like waves that ebb and flow. He narrowly avoids being bumped into by some particularly hurried shoppers. Looking around, he notices a variety of shops selling an array of assorted goods. He looks each over before deciding to step into a shop that had a bunch of knick-knacks on display. Yousuke tended to enjoy finding small trinkets that didn't serve much of a purpose, but he couldn't help but find them interesting and start a collection of sorts. There were lots of cute objects to peruse, and a few more that seemed to be of minor value. It wasn't until he picked up and was examining an old brooch that he noticed it in his periphery. It was a necklace that sat adjacent to a carved wooden box. The piece of jewelry didn't seem like much upon first glance, but when he picked it up and looked it over, he noticed smaller fine details that drew him to it. It was a dark purple quartz necklace with delicate lace work of silver wire wrapped around the stone, keeping it in place. It was a very pretty pendant indeed and the lace-esque wire turned to a sort of braid as it crept up the stone to clasp around the chain. He gently thumbed the piece of jewelry, almost mesmerized by the patterns. He glanced up to see about attracting the shopkeeper's attention.

Yousuke plopped down on a bench under a streetlamp so he could watch the passersby. He couldn't help grinning to himself as he touched the necklace that now hung around his neck. He was glad that he found something that fit him perfectly. Though he knew didn't have any other business today, just browsing through the market without any particular goal in mind or object to purchase was kind of fun. He leaned his head back and draped his arm over his eyes. Yea. Today was fun!

I moan softly from my position leaning against some random wall. My red eye burns on the right side of my face and I rub it excessively to attempt and relieve the feeling. I wink a couple of time and lift off from the wall towards the crowd of people going about their business. It’s crowded as usual but I walk straight the wall of people, effortlessly dodging on coming shoppers and their children. Across from where I was I get close to a shop window and look into the reflection at my right eye which has a faint glow to it despite the fact I wasn’t using any of my dark powers. Though this concerned me my attention quickly shifted to what was inside the shop window. A manikin of a woman stood directly in front of me and seemed to take on my face, and for just a moment I imagine it’s my mother who bore the same heterochromatic eyes that I have. It reminded me of why I was delving into the darkest reaches of ninjutsu, and the sacrifices I would have to make in order to achieve my goal to return her to me.

I shake my head to get the image of her out of my mind and move away from the manikin. As I walk away I pass on to the front of another shop and inside I see a young boy examining what appears to be an old necklace. It’s a nice piece, even someone like myself can appreciate beauty when he sees it, but I find myself once again caught up in my own sorrows. I think about to when I was this kids age and— He looks up and I’m shocked back into reality. I’m not sure if he sees me but I close up my robe and walk away briskly. I swear, I’m not a creep. However, it wasn’t much later that I passed by a young boy sitting on a bench and I immediately recognize him. He seems pleased with his purchase as he fondles the same necklace he was examining earlier. It seems odd that I would happen upon him again and I'm not one to pass by on a strange coincidence. I join him but on the other side of the bench but he has his eyes covered by his arm so I sit down gently so as to hopefully not gain his attention at first.

“I, uh…” I hesitate. “I like that necklace. It really suits you… Are you a student?” It seems odd to me that a lot of my interactions lately have been with the youth of the village. For some reason I seem drawn to them, as if trying to gain something that I never achieved at their age. I wasn’t allowed to even leave the temple without an escort for most of my life, so all I did was train and entertain myself by messing with my grandfather who was trapped in the form of a wolf. Whatever the case, I’m here now and so we’ll see where this encounter takes me.

At first, Yousuke was completely oblivious to the newcomer that had joined him on the bench. He started to relax and almost drift into a light daze with his eyes covered by his arm when he heard the hesitant greeting and compliment. He removed his arm from his face and blinked a moment, noticing the stranger for the first time. He was tall, much taller than himself. And Yousuke couldn't help but notice the mismatched eyes that immediately piqued his curiosity. Not many that he knew had the heterochromic trait, and even fewer still deigned to speak with him. He looked down and coughed, realizing he's been staring for too long at the newcomer. He didn't want to seem rude and rubbed at the bridge of his nose, trying to hide his flush from embarrassment.

"Um... thanks." One of his fingers raised to lightly touch the necklace he now wore. He was quite happy with it and was somewhat relieved to find out someone else thought so too. He glanced back up at the tall man, giving a polite grin with a slight tilt to his head. "I'm afraid I'm not a student anymore," he said. "I recently graduated and am now a Genin. Though I guess learning isn't really ever going to be over for me." He gave a sheepish grin at that last bit and looked back up at the sky, pondering what he should do now. He could finally go on missions now, he knew. But it felt odd to him. He had been awarded his headband, and yet he still had never put it on. "So..." he glances over to his bench partner. "What brings you to the market today~?"

He was staring at me and of course I know why, someone of my stature and eye coloring gets a lot of looks. It doesn’t help that my hair looks as if I dye it, with black roots that grow into white strands, and my skin while tanned is still paler than most due to spending most of my life indoors. When he finally speaks I can tell he realized his folly but for some reason I couldn’t let it down. He’s but a boy, I tell myself, but my eye itches more intensely and I can feel the heat of my curse seal radiating from under my bodysuit and robe. I ignore it and instead focus on the conversation at hand with this fresh out of the academy genin, trying to stay in the moment rather than relive any old memories.

“Fresh meat, huh?” I joke, giving him as sincere a grin as I can muster. “The academy is only a stepping stone to the true learning experience. It teaches you the basics but there’s no substitute for life experience.” I sigh a breath of cold remembrance at my past which haunts me, then have to shake the memories away once again. I look away from the boy and out into the area in front of us but I don’t really look at anything in particular. My breathing is steady, my heart rate is normal, and yet I still have a feeling as if my adrenaline is spiking. It’s a feeling I’ve felt before, the final moments of and few moments after I used my power to scare those kids away from the girl in the residential district.

“Wha—?” I’m visibly startled at the boy’s question. I had lost myself in a daze once again and completely forgot what I was doing. I laugh nervously and his words finally filter through my brain. “Oh, right, yes… Um, I don’t know.” I lean back against the back of the bench and look upwards. “Sometimes I just like to come here and walk amongst the people, I guess? I, er, get tired of being coped up in my temple all day. I used to be shut in at all times, but now that I’m the leader I can do whatever I want.” I eye ceases to itch and I can feel my green eye burn for a moment, and the boy might see it flash at the same time, but then the feeling of adrenaline is replaced with relaxation. I let out a breath of relief now as I finally start to feel like myself again. It would seem that reminding myself of how the bad memories led to something good calmed my inner beast.

“And you?” I ask to be polite. “What brings you here? And my name is Tasogare, by the way. You may call me Tas as most of my acquaintances do.” My words aren’t as shaky anymore and my voice has regained some of it’s usual vibrancy. A hand comes out from behind my robe, but not from inside it. No, the hand that reaches out in an attempt to shake the boy’s isn’t attached to my body at all. It’s one of my ofudas which form in the shape of my own hands to allow me to perform handseals and summon multiple creations at once. Something is different however, I notice that on the inside of the palm where the seal should be is empty. I take note of it and push back the concern for the time being in order to keep up appearances.

Yousuke found it odd just sitting and chatting with a perfect stranger. This man seemed like an accomplished individual, but maybe he just felt that way because he had only recently graduated from the academy himself. There wasn't much experience that he could actually call pragmatic in any sense of the word just yet. He appreciated the advice of the older man, nodding at his musings about the academy being a stepping stone.

It was only just for a moment, but Yousuke seemed to get the impression that something was bothering his bench-mate. There wasn't really any change that he noticed, but a slight feeling that crept upon him. He grinned up at the man when his question through him off. Yousuke wasn't the only one with things on his mind it would seem. Yousuke took this opportunity to look around the bustling area for himself. There were always lots of people sifting through the area. He chuckled to himself, wondering how people could stand constantly almost running into each other.

His attention was brought back to his companion when he asked Yousuke in return. "Oh, um..." He pondered on it for a minute. "I guess I don't really have a reason as to why I'm here either." He snorted a laugh. "I guess I just wandered around and ended up here." He gently gripped the necklace that he had recently purchased. "I guess I just look for things that interest me. There are so many things that have a lot of value, but I'm more interested in the small trinkets or unusual finds that most people overlook." He reddens a bit and looks away to stare aimlessly into the crowd. "Perhaps that sounds silly."

When his companion, he now knows as Tasogare, offfered his hand it caught Yousuke by surprise. It was like it came from behind his clothing rather than from within his clothing. But he didn't react to his surprise. He was taught better than to be rude to people, especially if they were friendly to him. And so, without any hesitation, Yousuke reached out and shook Tas' hand. "And my name is Yousuke. It's nice to meet you, Tas."

It appears that the young boy and I are on similar paths today, which is to say we’re on no particular path. He explains that he also has no real reason for having come to this place, and when he laughs I let out a chuckle as well. It was both out of reflex and out of relief that I was starting to feel more like myself. Of course, ‘myself’ isn’t much of a socialite but it almost seems to me that this boy is also not one to follow the crowd. He blushes slightly as he talks about the joy he finds in unusual objects and I wonder why something like that would embarrass someone. It was hard for me to understand but I also recognize that because of my circumstances growing up I’m not exactly fit to read others’ emotions.

“If it’s something you enjoy,” I say in earnest, “then it’s not silly at all.” Here I am again, trying to hand out sage wisdom when I have my own issues bubbling inside me. Perhaps, though, that’s what truly makes a sage. We are all human, and in the end it’s that humanity that makes it possible to understand and empathize with others in order to give them advice, even when we wouldn’t normally take that advice ourselves. We are all so fickle and easily manipulated creatures, to think that humans have ever— I stop my train of thought as it occurs to me that I’ve lost sight of myself again. I take a deep breath, and then introductions are made. The boy shakes hands with my ofuda without batting an eye and it makes me grin.

“Yousuke,” I repeat his name and my ofuda moves up and I scratch the back of my head with it. “Yousuke, Yousuke. It has a nice ring to it, and I think it’s nice to meet you as, um… well.” A momentary loss in my train of thought. Once again this isn’t a good sign but so long as I don’t have that feeling of anxiety bubbling inside my stomach I choose to ignore it. It would seem that today was just going to be one of those days. My hand that was floating near my hand feel down behind my back and disappeared again so now it was just the two of us again.

“So you’re a genin,” I speak clearly but only because I concentrate on the words I intend to use. “A genin, genin, genin of the sunan shinobi… You must have some idea of your style then. What kind of fighter do you see yourself as?” I turn slightly to face him more. It felt as if we were having a conversation over headset instead of face to face. Though I still find it hard to maintain eye contract and instead I just settle on look at his hair. With my size it was easy for me to fake it since I was almost always looking down on people. With this boy it was no different as I at least a foot taller by far.

Yousuke grinned up at his companion as they made small talk. His grin was a little wider than normal, but he kept the chuckle from bubbling out of him when he heard Tas say his name several times. There wasn't anything particularly funny about it, but he liked that his bench companion rolled his name around on his tongue. Yousuke sometimes did that with others' names, just to see how it felt to pronounce them. But, then again, perhaps he was just weird and most people didn't do that.

He realized he'd been pondering his own strangeness for a just slightly too long when he heard his conversational partner mention him being a genin. This time when he heard his rank over and over he couldn't help but try to cover his snicker with his hand, hoping his friend didn't notice it. "Yes, you're right," he lowered his hand, but his smile was still wide. "I am a genin." He looked up at the lamp post and leaned back on the bench, relaxing into a more comfortable sitting position.

Yousuke looked at his hand as he swirled his fingers in the air in front of him, imagining his chakra flowing around his fingers and swirling in delicate little wisps. "I plan on being a Magician." His attention was focused on his hand and his fluid motion, almost as if he was conducting a symphony. "I want to be someone impressive. And I am really interested in those types of jutsu." He lowered his hand to his side and glanced sideways to Tas. "What sort of fighter are you?" He was quite curious as to his partner's abilities. He looked strong and perhaps he too could one day be as strong.

It appears that I’m doing better than expected at conversing with my new acquaintance. He seems to take joy from my repetitious use of his name and rank, holding in his desire to show as such. At first when I do it with his name I’m not sure, but then when I do it once again with his rank he has to cover his mouth in an attempt to hide it. I don’t mind, though he wouldn’t find it enjoyable if he knew why I was doing it in the first place. As we continue to talk he becomes visibly more relaxed and I’m happy that my odd demeanor isn’t upsetting to him. Of course, at this point I’m doing a pretty good job at hiding my troubles. I too am acting relaxed and in a way I suppose I am, much more so than when I started. The feeling inside me begins to sway back and forth between a stormy sea and a placid pond.

He answers my question quite unexpectedly, telling me that he wishes to be a magician. I’m not sure on how he means this word to be used but I assume it’s something tied to ninjutsu, or maybe more likely Genjutsu. It seems as if he’s interested in the same types of skills that I’ve spent my lifetime cultivating myself for some prophecy that may or may not be true. I only think of the repercussions of the prophecy being false for a moment before Yousuke turns his question back on me. I blink a few times and then return my grin to match his own.

“I’m actually quite similar in style. I’ve spent my whole life being trained to master the arts of ninjutsu, as well as the illusions of genjutsu.” I decide the skip the whole prophecy thing, it doesn’t seem pertinent to the conversation and I’m not sure how I teen such as this one would react to prophetic dreams involving dead ancestors… Though weird things like that are something common place in our world he may not have as much experience with it as I do. “I focus a lot of my fighting on avoiding being hit, summoning creatures to take the brunt of the battle for me while I hide in the shadows and cast illusions on the enemy from afar. Have you ever used a creation jutsu before?”

My actual hands peak out from under my robe and I perform a few quick handseals. I hunch forward violently and rocks pour from my mouth and gather together in front of us. Pebbles merge with out pebbles to create larger rocks and soon a creature appears. It’s a miniature version of the rock golem I would normally summon. I’m known for causing scenes around the village with my various creations, so I thought it best not to vomit up a giant rock monster in the middle of the commercial district. Besides, this was just for demonstration purposes anyway.

Yousuke was pleased to find his companion enjoying himself. This was fun! He wasn't expecting much from the day, but he was really glad that he decided to venture out today. He found a pretty necklace and he might even potentially be making a new friend, albeit a really tall one. He peered up at his bench-mate in surprise when he heard that their styles were quite similar. He beamed happily as he listened intently. "I guess I'm more of a summoning type, though there is some illusion that goes along with it. Though I haven't used a creation jutsu before."

Yousuke seemed quite pleased with this conversation thus far. He noticed that Tas' hands emerged from his robes as he wove hand signs together. He gasped a bit, surprised when his friend doubled over and threw up what looked like rocks. He realized only a moment after that this was his jutsu; Tas wasn't getting sick. He mentally wiped his brow, glad that he wouldn't have to rush his companion to the medical ward.

He watched as the pebbles started to merge together, making bigger and bigger rocks until the pile took shape as, what Yousuke could only assume to be a small golem. Once it finally took shape, he let out a squeal of delight before he clapped a hand over his mouth and reddened. He kept eye contact with the small creature, purposefully not looking up at Tas after his embarrassing reaction. He softly responded through his hand, making sure he didn't sound muffled while not uncovering his mouth. "It's so cute."

I’m starting to get a sense of what this boy’s style is about now. Though, at the same time, it almost seems like maybe he isn’t completely sure either. He says he’s a summoner and yet hasn’t used a creation jutsu before. It’s surprising but I don’t remark on it, instead I just move on with my demonstration. The little golem creature forms at our feet, no higher than Yousuke’s knees, and I can tell right away that it’s a success. I grin at his response, choosing to overlook the gasp that followed the expulsion of rocks from my insides. That’s not something you see everyday so it’s understandable that when someone does that suddenly you’re going to be taken aback.

“It is cute,” I say as I pet the creature’s head. It coos softly as my hand brushes against the rocky surface of it’s forehead. “Creations don’t have to just be monsters. Although, it’s very possible for them to be.” I half smile and stand to my feet. The golem struggles to hop on to the bench as I cast my shadow down on both of them. I take a deep breath and perform more seals to show Yousuke another version of my power. A darker version. My shadow moves away from it’s natural position and in front of us, becoming larger and expanding on a nearby wall. Purple eyes appear from it and a large lizard-like head starts to emerge, breathing what looks like black fire from it’s nostrils. A cursed energy can be felt emanating from it, becoming stronger as it manifests.

It slowly opens it’s mouth and begins to wail and I realize that what I’m doing, and where I’m doing it, isn’t very appropriate. I dismiss the jutsu before it finishes summoning the whole beast, but I completely shut off my chakra in the suddenness and the golem turns to dust and is swept away.

“I apologize,” I slowly move back into my seated position on the bench. I give a sort of ‘fake’ chuckle, fueled by nervousness, and ring my hands together under my robe. “My point was just to say, they are excellent tools for a young magician… Do you know what kind of elements you have an affinity for yet?”

((I know you haven't been here very long so if you just have an idea on what kind of base elements you want to use you could go with that, or if you don't know at all you could go with that as well ^-^))
