Finally, a mission. After all the time had passed, day after day of just sitting in a classroom or basic training hoping he would finally get to do something more exciting. Today was the day he would finally get to complete a mission and show his merit as a shinobi. He was quick to go retrieve his mission briefing earlier in the day, but much to his own disappointment the mission was a complete joke. Cleaning some old woman's house? Was this even a real mission? What on earth do they have housekeepers for then? He was somewhat insulted at the idea of such mediocre tasks, this was to be very mundane and to top of off he feared he would have to listen to the ramblings of some old lady trying to picture her "good old days". He shivered at the very thought of it as he entered the pearl tenements of Maruishi. He was not too familiar with maruishi, much to social of an atmoshpere for his taste.
"Hmm, need to find okiri pottery and ceramics." he muttered to himself as he searched for a small pottery shop the older woman owned and lived in as she didnt make enough at her craft to afford housing seperate from the pottery shop. There is was tucked between two larger multi-family dwellings in all of it's run down glory. This place needed far more than just a cleaning, it needed torn down and reconstructed from scratch. His task was to clean though, he did not even consider doing anything more as he was already insulted that the village wastes shinobi resources on such petty things, but it takes money to acquire all that is needed to become a powerful shinobi so who was he to pass up a mission wether it is mundane or not?
He knocked on the old wooden door and awaited a response from whomever inside heard it. The door slowly opened and an elderly lady poked her head out from inside curious of her visitor. It was peculiar that a store would have a door requiring that someone knock on it but one could guess that in a poverish community theft would be a major problem so it did make sense. "Come on in dear" The nice elderly lady stated as best she could with her frail voice. "I have plenty of tasks for you today so keep on your toes." She said almost jokingly. She pointed out the various tasks such as cleaning the floors, wiping down the walls, cleaning the windows, dusting the shelves and counters, wiping the various pottery and ceramic decoratives that lined the shop and living quarters. This old entrepreneur knew how to get her moneys worth from a job, cleaning a house and shop on the simple reasoning that it is all one building! Clever, very clever, but surely not in his favor which he very much disliked. Shadow barely made any response to anything she said, he just wanted to be done already and go back to his training which was far prefferable to this.
He bagan to complete his many tasks starting with the pottery and walls. He was very carely to ensure each piece shone like silver and reflected the image of the person staring into them. He then ensured that he had scrubbed the walls down till they appeared to be newly constructed. It was already tough work but even with such a task as this that he despised, a mission was a mission and a shinobi shows his worth to a village by completing missions so slacking was not an option. He had managed to get all of the furniture clean and beatiful after hours of working on all of it and scrubbing the many pieces of furniture down. Shadow began to get bored and tired, to help that along the old woman went off to take a nap. Old people sure do nap alot? He pondered to himself having a very clever idea of his own.
Shadow found a comfortable little corner which he layed a few pillows over in and relaxed himself. He soon fell asleep as he figured the old woman would not wake for quite a while and he could be back awake and finished long before she even considered waking up. He had surely underestimated this clever old lady, something about entrepreneural types is that they have an uncanny sixth sense of when a hired hand is slacking off. It was no different with this elderly woman, this was not the first time she had dealt with someone sleeping on the job.
As shadow slept he had a very unorthodox dream of a ferret like creature yapping at him in a very annoying and scratchy voice. It was surely bothersome that a creature such as a ferret would be able to speak human speech, but that voice was so aggitating. It grew louder and louder until Shadow actually awoke to find the old woman yapping at him and scolding him for falling asleep. Shadow did not care at all pretending the woman was not even there. She eventually calmed down and noticed how fine of a job he had done and that he only lacked doing the floor. "I'm sorry dear, I've had so many others who left me to do it all myself. You sure did a fine job so it's no wonder you became tired" She was sympathetic and seemed to feel regret for yelling at Shadow.
She assisted Shadow in doing the floor as she did not expect such a fantastic job to be done. No one ever concerned themselves enough with her little shop to actually try and do a good job so she was very grateful that for once someone made a true effort in doing a great job.
The old woman insisted that Shadow stay for a meal as a bit of an additional reward for being such a help, and he gladly accepted. A home cooked meal was far better than his old instant rations that he lived off of since he rarely ever went home and had the tendancy to live more on the rooftops of Iwagakure. To make the situation better the meal was to be large delicious steaks. Steak was a delicacy for sure, it was expensive to buy and since it was so expensive and hard to get ahold of few ever knew how to properly prepare it well enough to make a suitable meal of it. This was an amazing meal though, it was well seasoned and cooked to that absolute perfect point.
He left out much later than planned but the elderly lady insured Shadow that she would pass along her praises to the village of a job beyond well done which pleased Shadow and motivated him to always give his all, even with the mundane and boring tasks. He also would remember to take shorter naps and be very wary of talking ferrets.
