Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The youth were the praised future. Assigned ... or perhaps, burdened with the responsibility to carry on the baton where the older generation couldn't finish—Or something like that. At least, that's what Siu had once read in a book.
Her own youth could be experienced departing daily; the word itself gradually obscuring into some unrecognizable entity, like a foreign word or continent. Something about aging seemed to coincide with declining optimism, eagerness, and, frankly, hope for the future. Siu couldn't tell whether adults just grew more depressed with age, or simply more painfully aware of harsh realities than children.
In that way, the youth became an interesting study. The hopeful spark in their eyes, a phenomenon, despite the researcher once possessing it themselves. Those eyes that looked towards some bright future imperceptible to the mature; Two entirely separate entities, though both physically human.

Today's assigned session would take place near the outskirts of the city. Enough to benefit the freedom of a natural environment away from the bustle—yet, not as far as the Ancient Forest, of course; For, responsibility for any unfortunate accidents associated with the expected dangers of such areas, however severe, wasn't something Siu really desired on her record—nor had been keen to fill out paperwork on.

"....Paperworks' awful. "

Though the majority of fowls had yet to reveal, Siu enjoyed what she could of her neighbors amongst the woodland flora. Introspective eyes followed a pair of squirrels dancing amongst the branches, for no purpose in particular. Smoke peacefully wisped from the cigarette tucked between her lips, warming her body in the early morning chill—five-sixteen in the morning, to be more exact. Back rested against the trunk, slender fingers twiddled about the egg nestled between them.

Smoke, and the clatter of dishes filled the air as breakfast laid lightly charred and half-eaten lay on the dining table. In it's midst was Kaji, scrambling to don his clothes and wrestling with untied shoes. He had overslept, and if he didn't hurry, he would be brazenly late. His mother Yua sluggishly coming to bear witness to the massive commotion at such an hour. "Sweety," , she said with a yawn, "You don't have to be up for breakfast until an hour from now, what are you doing.". Regaining control of the hectic situation, he finished getting dressed and turned off the stove and opened a small window in the kitchen. Still rushing to meet his deadline he replied, "Sorry-mom-can't-talk-gotta-go-bye!" , and with a quick hug he was off.

His days at the academy were sometimes harsh and stressful, but one of worst things Kaji still hadn't gotten used to was just how early the mornings began. This one in particular, was already proving to be quite the challenge. He knew nothing of his instructor, Miss Siu, other than the details of where he and possibly another student were arranged to meet. However, such thoughts were pushed to the wayside as he sprinted down the streets like a whipped horse. Narrowly missing several vendors, merchandise in hand and other more prestigious members of society, he had finally made it past a majority of the dense village.

He had finally made it, though he was at least three minutes late and arriving with a crash, he burst out from between the bushes. In front of him was instructor for the day. Surprisingly enough, she didn't seem to be the type for draconic punishment and sending a passionate message to and like so many of the others. Now all he had to do was wait for anyone else to arrive while he looked to double check his stuff.

The disturbance was heard long well before witnessed; The egg afront Siu lowering to reveal an arched brow. Her profile turned in time to witness the slightly chaotic arrival.
Reminiscent of a looming tower, the long figure gazed down at the boy in silence; Smoke wisping like flue gasses from an industrial chimney. Almond irises seemed to inspect his physique as a doctor might for abnormalities. The aura of those eyes radiated no hostility, but no amiability.
A free hand lifted to pinch the cigarette away, afore the woman's boot could be heard crushing it against the dirt. The aroma of her addiction still fresh upon her, the Chuunin stooped forward to better match the student's height. Meeting eyes, as if her next aim were to gauge his soul after his physique; Wordlessly, the same hand ventured to brush something off his shoulder.

"One hour." Greeted the single statement.

"Any less before physical exertion ... Risk stomach problems after eating."

With that, the boy would find himself suddenly presented the egg before him. A single index finger pointed some distance away, indicating the short stump for him to place it atop. Nearby, two eggs revealed themselves already distributed atop separate stumps—too conveniently placed, in fact, to be assumed natural.

"They shouldn't be moved." She'd inform, gradually standing back upright. "But should be protected."

Fallen leaves danced together with those amongst the branches in another passing breeze, joined by the Chuunin's raven locks.

"Easy enough job, Mr. Kaji?" Some gentle shift of amiability would color the inquiry, enigmatic in a way. The subtle curve would unveil upon her lips as the woman's demeanor appeared to warm.

Akane jogged down the airy northern streets, a well-laden backpack jostling behind her with each step. It was an early morning, even for her; she rubbed the last traces of sleep from her eyes with one hand, as the other held tight to the straps of her bag. She had a sneaking suspicion that she was going to be late. They had been told to meet more than a few minutes’ journey from her home in Susukino, and she had tried to get up early, she really had… but she had stayed up too late last night again. She hadn’t chosen to make preparing for her first tutoring session as an Academy Student an easy job. In a pouch on her side, newly shined and tested for durability, was her second ever handcrafted kunai- it was shaped oddly, but she was beyond proud of herself for how it performed in practice (it didn’t even break when she threw it at the wall). Necessary or not for this particular lesson, the Student had made it in time for today, and she was bringing it along.

She flicked a lock of hair out of her face as she rounded a corner. If she wasn’t late when she left the shop, she most definitely was now- Akane stopped short as a boy with flaming red hair raced past her, stepping back to allow him by. If she remembered the Nimbus Delectatio well enough, he was running in the direction she was supposed to be going. Well, what the heck, she was already late anyway. Picking up her pace to trail behind him, she held her bag down with one arm so nothing flew out of it. She probably didn’t need binoculars, a sketchbook, or a different pair of shoes, but… quite honestly, she had no idea what to expect from the coming hours. Academy life was just beginning, and she had mental roadsigns pointing in every direction already.

The boy stopped, right around where she was supposed to be. It looked like she had just gotten lucky; she’d have to remember to ask for his name later. For now, Akane approached the stump-filled clearing, looking around- she saw the red-haired boy greeted by a tall woman, probably the instructor. She appeared to be talking to him personally. The girl was absolutely late, there was no getting around it. She hovered on the edge of the area, forgetting the contents of her bag for a few moments, and waited for one of them to recognise her or finish. When the woman stood and gave the boy an egg, though, Akane gave up and walked over, beginning, “Uh, hello! Is this for the tutor, for Academy Students?” She felt like an idiot. “My name’s Hatanaka Akane. I joined the Academy very recently…”

Strangely, the lady wasn't overtly angry. Ms. Siu seemed pretty put together all things considered. But the look she had been giving him was a little, off... He secretly hoped to the gods above that he hadn't landed in the lap of another crazy person. As everyone Kaji had met at the academy so far, barring the students, were very eccentric. And the fact that she also knew how recently he'd eaten seemed to add to the air of mystery. That is, until he thought for a moment and, turning beet red, realized just how messy he looked having forgotten to wipe off his face.

Ms. Siu moved on however, and had told him to place an egg upon the empty one of three stumps and more importantly, to keep it safe. So naturally, he nearly dropped it when an unfamiliar voice snuck up on him. Doing his best not to fail the objective before it's start, Kaji turned to see who it was. It took several seconds, but eventually he recognized that the "backpack girl" he had blazed past was actually the other student slated to be here. Though he wasn't exactly sure why it took him so long to make the connection, at least it made sense. Looking at her, she seemed shy, and spoke somewhat awkwardly to the teacher. "Understandable" , he thought to himself, "I'd be a bit awkward right now if I were in her shoes too.".

However, instead of sticking with uncomfortable silence he opted to be the first to break the ice. "Yo! Name's Kaji Hirohito, nice to meet'cha!" , Kaji said with a squinty smile, "Considerin' that you were late too I'd say you're in the right place!". Stopping for a moment to gently rest his egg on his assigned stump, he continued, "But now that everybody's here, lets see what you've got in store for us Ms. Sui!".

Attention turned to acknowledge the second arrival; Originally, assumed to have simply overslept. A glance observed the student's belongings, afore focus affixed upon the student herself; Wordlessly studying her in the same manner, whilst Kaji passed his greetings.

"You'd do well not to trivialize lack of discipline ... Kaji." Intervened the statement with a subtle, yet very present touch of correction. A hand shifted to rest upon the Instructor's hip. "Tolerance doesn't make fault acceptable."

The woman seemed to allow time for her words to fully soak into the youth's minds before moving things forward. Her neutral gaze, reminiscent of one in the process of ruling judgment, particularly appeared drawn to one unique feature of the newcomer—her crimson eyes.
Suddenly turning, back facing the girl, the Chuunin paced towards the tree originally rested against; An act which could have very well conveyed disregard, if not for the single hand later raised behind her, waving down a few times to motion the student over.
What resembled a vague groan escaped the kunoichi as her figure crouched over her own sack of possessions, rummaging through a bit.

"Hrum," ushered something intranslatable as the women presented three more eggs—two from one hand, and one from the other.

"No moving—only protecting." She'd repeat, adjusting upright once more. "And ... Drink more milk—You'll never grow."

Attention broke away to rescan the surroundings, afore favoring one spot in particular: Relatively distanced from Kaji's post, but still well enough in sight—and with just as many convenient stumps to place the fragile objects atop.
A single index finger pointed to indicate her decision, slightly curved as if it required too much effort to make completely straight. The tearing of a wrapper could be heard soon thereafter, as Siu removed what appeared to be a breakfast bar from her pocket whilst the kid prepared. Unabashedly taking a bite, her long limbs plopped to the grass, sitting cross-legged.
At some point, one might've pondered whether the Instructor lost all intention of leading class—or whether, she'd even held intentions to begin with—as she continued taking her sweet time enjoying breakfast.

"So, it—" A yawn caught the woman in her words; the back of her palm slowly wiping an eye.

"... So, goes like this," eventually arrived some continuation. "Mmm, thirty minutes? Twenty minutes?" Eyes drifted upward in short consideration.

"Objective: Destroy your opponent's eggs, protect your own. First to destroy all three wins. Or—if time runs short—one with the most remaining.
Winner gets'a prize. Loser ..." Siu crunched another bite of her breakfast. "Cleans up all the mess."

As she waited for a reaction from the tall kunoichi, the fiery-haired boy introduced himself with a grin. It was a relief that they had both been a little late. Akane smiled back and waved, very interested to finally meet someone her age trained in the Ninja arts (well, more or less).

The woman- Ms. Siu was her name- spoke up, coolly admonishing them both at once. The girl’s reply to her new acquaintance shrank back, and she said nothing, giving a last glance in his direction before turning her full attention to the instructor. As much as she felt she had prepared, she didn’t fully know what to expect from the Academy and shinobi life in general; it would take time to learn its rules and inner workings. Ms. Siu met her eyes as they waited. The kunoichi’s face gave nothing away, but Akane didn’t break eye contact- she was worried about giving her more reasons to think less of them.

The woman turned and set off towards a bag at the base of a tree nearby, motioning for the student to follow. As she did, she received a trio of eggs identical to Kaji’s, along with simple directions to hold them still. ...and a piece of friendly advice. She didn’t know how to feel about it, so she just nodded and walked with her to the collection of stumps… criticism or recommendation, she took a mental note to drink some more before her dad used it all for his tea.

Ms. Siu left her to arrange her charges. While she sat in the grass nearby, Akane set the eggs down on their sides, taking care that they didn’t roll off the sides of the flat, woody surfaces. One of the shorter stumps had a small hollow on its face, which she positioned the third in so that it stood mostly upright. The girl surveyed her work, then turned, standing to the side so she could still see her eggs. She watched the woman for instructions.

And instructions came- the point of the class, it looked like, was this test. The first to destroy the most or all of their opponent’s eggs would be the winner; Akane looked at the boy standing by his own trio of stumps. She had a set of shuriken and her handmade kunai with her, and she didn’t see any way he’d be able to intercept a well-placed throw while unarmed. It seemed like a bit much to start using actual shuriken in her first class, though… her aim wasn’t perfect, and she didn’t want to hurt Kaji (plus, she remembered, her shuriken were buried under everything else in her bag).

She drew her kunai from its pouch and held it in both hands, not intending to throw it and risk losing it in the slightest. If he got close to her for an attack, she could hopefully brandish it to scare him off- she wasn’t confident enough with any kind of bukijutsu to use without hurting him, Akane realized. So she held her ground, waiting for him to do something…

Almost immediately after, however, she remembered- he could probably use ninjutsu. If he suddenly made an earthquake, or created a gust of wind… she couldn’t counter with a jutsu of her own (she didn’t have any), nor could she stop something like that with just basic taijutsu. Or, even worse, he could be proficient in genjutsu and make her break her own eggs, or sneak up behind her and attack while she looked the other way, or summon an animal to split her focus…

She couldn’t stand waiting around while Kaji could be preparing anything like that. Switching the kunai to her left hand and snatching a walnut-sized pebble off of one of the stumps, Akane charged forwards, flinging the stone at the closest egg.

The lesson began, and it was at that moment that Kaji realized that he had made a grave error. He thought that a taijutsu lesson would be easy, just do some push-ups and high kicks, call it good. Perhaps it was his overconfidence or lack of preparation that had landed him here. Whatever it was, he was now saddled with the weight of his mistakes, as he now had to fight unarmed against an armed combatant. There was little room for error.

The girl, Akane, bounded forward at a threatening speed, throwing a rock towards one of the targets as she moved. With the current situation, there was no time for ninjutsu without losing the egg. Thinking fast, his body was already moving to intercept it. He could tell that there was only a small chance it would work, but he had to try. As Kaji leapt forward, extending his arms to widen his profile, the rock whipped into his face striking him under his right eye and breaking the skin.

The bleeding was minimal, and he could thankfully still see, but it had rung his bell more than he'd like to admit. With the immediate crisis dealt with, there was the matter of its sender, who was rapidly closing. "Not enough time!" , Kaji thought. But there was one advantage he had in this situation, in the year before coming to the academy, his mother had trained him on the rudimentary forms of hand-to-hand. More importantly however, she had spent a much larger amount of time teaching him battlefield tactics. "Creativity is the lifeblood of battle, those who do not deviate and improvise are destined to fail." , a lesson that he had burned into his memory, just for a situation like this.

Akane did have a weapon, but with a little confusion, a pinch of luck, and an extra helping of dumb and reckless tactics, he might just come out on top. Swiping the egg from the stump, Kaji rushed to meet his opponent and before entering striking distance, underhand threw the egg upward with all his might. If she was accurate enough, she might try to backpedal and hit it, disarming herself. Or she might hopefully fall for the distraction. There still remained a twinge of fear from the thought of being on the wrong end of that kunai, but whatever the possible outcome he did not stop, rather, he continued. Then, twisting in a sitting motion to face away from her, Kaji dropped to his right foot. Next, bringing his face nearly to the ground, Kaji balanced himself with his hands as he swung his left heel into a low spinning sweep towards Akane's legs. He was hoping to hit her on her weak side, assuming she had one, and knock her out feet from under her.

Siu's expression vaguely wrinkled into something amidst another bite, two-thirds into her breakfast bar. Its exact description, couldn't quite accurately be depicted into words; Yet, its closest explanation might've been some admixture of annoyance and confusion. Depicting a nonverbal: '... Really?'

'In one ear, out the other,' grumbled the woman to herself.

Not much further performance would be required on Akane's part to seal her first objective; For, before the egg even received a third of an opportunity to reach the peak of its launch, its contents violently rained all about the forest—and probably upon a student or two.

"No moving," reiterated the rules, tinted in annoyance. "Told'ja clearly."

Given their level, neither child likely perceived anything but the actual destruction; But, that didn't mean there hadn't been a logical answer for the occurrence—and fancy jutsu had little to do with it: Siu simply flicked a tiny rock found nearby.

Finishing the last bite, the kunoichi crumpled the wrapper together, shoving it back into her pocket. Amidst the competition, despite what her nonchalant demeanor may have depicted, the Instructor had actually been paying quite deep attention to her two students: Their movements, their creativity, their response to pressure with little preparation. Mental notes were being jotted down left and right, internal scoring tallied without a pen.
A brow did slightly arch upon witnessing Akane suddenly withdraw a kunai though; repeating the pattern after watching Kaji take a hit from the rock. A consideration might've occurred at that moment—whether she'd jumped a little too ahead of things for the two upcoming shinobi.
While she hadn't much expectations in their offensive abilities inflicting too serious enough harm upon each other—more concerning was whether they'd accidentally kill themselves first in the process...

And the fight was on! Akane stumbled into her throw as the stone soared out of her hands, aimed better than she would have thought; she might break her first target after all. Suddenly, Kaji jumped forwards to shield his egg, and the small rock hit his square in the face. The student winced, not for her miss, but for her interceptor- if she had thrown just the tiniest bit higher, that could have damaged his eye…

She glanced back at their instructor after a moment. The woman hadn’t moved from her spot on the grass, and was still eating the breakfast bar unconcernedly; no reaction to Akane’s first blood. A part of her wanted to make sure the boy was alright, but during this exercise probably wasn’t the time… instead, she continued towards her opponent, picking a different egg to pursue.

As she closed the remaining distance, she saw Kaji grab his egg and rush to meet her. The girl slowed, brandishing the handmade kunai in front of her like a ward, and prepared to defend herself. Before the boy reached her, however, he lobbed the egg directly upwards into the air; caught off-guard, Akane stopped completely. He probably had some kind of plan… was he going to try to catch the egg once it came down…? Was it part of a jutsu? She didn’t see any handseals, which meant it wasn’t a ninjutsu. That left genjutsu… and she wasn’t sure if those required seals or not. Suddenly backpedaling in fear, she swiftly shook her head in an attempt to clear it, screwing her eyes shut.

The student opened them again in time to see her opponent crouching in front of her, and the next moment her legs were in the air. She toppled onto her back. The world spun for a moment, and she noticed the egg that had been thrown earlier bursting into a thousand pieces above them. From the ground, she heard Miss Siu’s reproach: No moving. She froze- did that mean her? No, it wouldn’t, she would have had to move to attack or defend the eggs; she had probably been talking about the targets themselves.

Akane split her focus between the boy and their teacher as she stood up. The kunoichi said nothing more, so she took a moment to think about the situation now- 1 egg was down, and they were closer to Kaji’s remaining two than they were to hers. He had a wild card; she had no idea what his abilities were, whereas the sum of her battle experience rested in her right hand. Even so, she felt somewhat comfortable defending herself. All she had to do was be threatening with her kunai, and she’d probably get a chance to attack the other eggs.

Sorry for the wait, again! I'm also planning to get another post in after Kaji's next one to catch up to you guys- if it takes too long, feel free to keep going since that one is extra.

The egg was obliterated mid air, the words already on his ear before had even time to recover. The scolding words of Ms. Sui rang disappointedly through his ears. Kaji had believed his plan to be clever, inspired, and beyond reproach. However, the consequences of his hubris now bore down on him in a golden shower. A small, weak voice within himself whined in his ear, making excuses and blaming Ms. Siu for being unfair. But knew full well that this was his own fault, he hadn't listened to his teacher, and unsurprisingly paid the price. Indignant but not defeated, the purpose of his plan had at least somewhat succeeded. The low sweep connected, nearly flipping the small girl on her head and leaving his fellow academy student lying squarely on their back, defenseless. He could have stopped there, resorting to wrestling his opponent into submission bare-handed; but he was down an egg, and desperately needed a win after such a fatal blunder. Now forced to make the decision between attacking his opponent or the objective, he opted to find a workaround and attack the latter directly.

Seeing the errors of his way, Kaji swore to uphold those words he had inwardly spoken out of ignorance, leaving behind the overconfidence and fully committing to his abstract tactics. Strength surged within him, igniting within his breast as his heart pulsed with frenzied resolve. Pushing his arms to their limit, Kaji rapidly wove the hand seals for thermal maw. All bets were off now, no more holding back. His frustration exploded outwards with a fiery scream. His indignation made whole and solid upon this earth as he spit forth a straight stream of fire. Blasting straight over his toppled opponent, the flame reached the closest egg with little effort, violently burning a small hole through the stump where the egg once sat. It was overkill, but now his head was clear and the odds were slightly more even as he braced himself for her next attack.

Akane absolutely began panicking. To her horror, Kaji’s hands formed a succession of seals, and he expelled actual fire from his mouth directly towards the most vulnerable of her eggs. Watching the burst of flames incinerate its target, the girl confirmed that she had no defense against those types of attacks. Even at her low level, she considered herself a bit of a specialist in taijutsu and bukijutsu especially- sadly, that didn’t translate to being able to punch a ball of fire. It was vaguely possible that a handful of kunai could slow or even nullify some simpler ninjutsu, but there was her other problem: positioning.

10 seconds ago, her spot closer to her opponent’s eggs was a considerable advantage, since she had assumed he would continue to attack her alone. Now it had become a very large problem. Kaji could burn his targets from even this distance (assuming, of course, that he could keep breathing those flames without running out of chakra), and she couldn’t block them even if she could get over there in time. She remembered her earlier observation that he probably wouldn’t be able to intercept one of her shuriken… although she was less sure of that now, she only had one shot for a defensive option and she’d need a distraction anyways.

She set down her bag to rifle through it, trying to lock her eyes on Kaji as she did so. Drawing a pair of the small star-shaped projectiles and holding both in one hand, Akane flung them at each of her opponent’s remaining eggs. She felt a twinge of regret as she realized what she had done- hopefully he wouldn’t try to block them with his face again. Both flew wide of their targets pretty noticeably. Laboring to force a subsequent action out of her nervous arms, she swiped her other hand backwards over her head, catapulting a small smoke bomb in the direction of her own stumps.

Not wanting to take her eyes off of the scene before her for too long, she glanced behind her to see the cloud of smoke billow out about 2 meters in front of the nearest egg-bearing stump. It wasn’t a perfect plan- actually, he could still shoot fire at the cloud of smoke as much as he wanted- but it was better than nothing, thankfully. Those smoke bombs had been an impulse buy, too...

The kunoichi's eyes faintly awoke with intrigue as the competition began to heat up—quite literally. Almond irises followed the rudimentary blaze, witnessing the decimation of its target.... A bit overkill.

"Mmm," mumbled the kunoichi from her seated position. "Doubt that's one learned from the Academy."

Eyes shifted back to the other little kunoichi, curious what her response would be; if she even had any.

'Grounds might be a little uneven here,' She momentarily reconsidered. But, then again—you always learned the most from opponents above your level, didn't you?

Watching the younger girl rummage through the bag, a precious smile couldn't help but sneak upon the woman's features —It was just too adorable. The shurikens revealed and tossed, the Instructor's eyes trailing—their trajectories ... questionable.

"Hopefully won't try blockin' those with his face." Then there'd truly be paperwork to fill.

The subsequent smoke bomb, the Chuunin quite appreciated. A clever one, it appeared, despite her disadvantage; Working with what was available.
A hand drew back the sleeve of her suit jacket, that the Instructor could read her watch. Though simple and slim in design, the dyed leather strap and silver case revealed it to be of no cheap class. Pulling the sleeve back, sluggishly, the woman managed to prop herself to a stand.
One might've wondered whether she'd intended anything, or had been preparing some intervention; However, she hadn't implied much further intention outside that. Rather, both arms stretched high above her head, the woman leaning towards one side, then the other to loosen her muscles. Legs nonchalantly kicked out a few times; might as well stretch those while she was at it too.

Reminder, you don't actually have to finish/leave the thread to turn in your rewards and get credit. As long as you two meet the 5 posts + 1500 word count requirement, this next post you can just apply for the rewards regardless of whether you two decide to continue or not. I'll keep Siu in the thread for now, in case you two do decide.

Kaji recoiled, struck by the gravity and depth of his mistakes as failure flashed before his eyes. Two shuriken thrown by the once meager looking Akane whizzed past his flanks uncontested. The projectiles sliced through the air above the eggs and disappeared into the trees with a loud *THOK*. Had it not been for some form of divine intervention he would have been defeated spectacularly right then and there. However, the best surprise was yet to come, as another projectile struck the ground between the opposite two stumps. A small black orb burst suddenly as the surrounding area was coated in thick black smoke.
It was then that it dawned on Kaji, he was out-matched, under-armed, and out-maneuvered. No matter how strong he was or how much chakra he had left, he still did not possess a single weapon to his name. And for all of the "clever" strategies and jutsu, the amount of effort it took for him to secure even a fraction of the results was staggering by comparison. In battle, such a massive weakness in his own planning would cost him constantly. Akane was clearly well prepared, and Kaji was not. There was no longer a scenario in which he could win.
So from this point onward, there would be no safe way to proceed. With no better option in mind Kaji did what he did best, and charged the problem head-on. The sudden burst of aggression seemed to illicit the reaction he was looking for from the girl, as it seemed to maybe startle her. But just before he could tackle Akane, the ground beneath his left foot jerked violently backwards, the foot firmly caught on a tree root. As he sailed predictably past his opponent, Kaji face-planted into the sturdy trunk with a solid *THUD*.
Pain lashed out across his forehead, and everything else went dark.

Thank you for your patience! It was a long work week. Sadly work might pick up even more soon, so I'll do my best to provide thoughtful resolutions to any threads I'm in. This will be my last post in this thread for now sorry if it's not that good.

"What a mess ...." A facepalm, both physical and mental, immediately responded to the scene. The theory proved correct—kids would likely first kill themselves before each other.
Heaving a sigh, the woman made way towards the unconscious body, stopping anear, hand rested upon her hip—Unreservedly, features judged.
Stooping over, she’d lift the boy, slinging him over a shoulder to bear. Standing back upright with a faint groan, the Instructor turned towards the young, crimson-eyed kunoichi; wordlessly gazing some moments.

“Guess that makes you winner.” The free hand dug into the woman’s pocket, afore flicking something towards the youth—whether she caught it or not.

“That’ll work for most of Susukino. Get yourself somethin’ nice.... Preferably with vegetables.” She’d inform upon rewarding the wrapped stack of meal vouchers. Restudying her surroundings, dissatisfaction crept upon her profile.

“Seems I’ll be the one cleanin’ this mess up.” Clicking her tongue, loafers about-faced, making for the hospital to drop the boy off. Doubtful he’d suffered any serious injuries, but it felt less guilty than abandoning him on the ground unconscious. Once she’d drop him off, he’d be their responsibility furthermore, and out of her hair.

Exiting this thread to leave country. Akane’s credit remains unaffected. Just post whenever ready to claim rewards. Good luck.

Their instructor didn’t appear to emote beyond checking her watch, after another uncertain glance in her direction, so Akane turned her attention back towards Kaji. She tried to guess at his reaction to her out-of-pocket maneuver, only to turn in time to see him charging forwards at her. The girl panicked. She had run out of things to throw besides her kunai, and the notion of attacking him with that scared her much more than getting tackled. If it didn’t work for fear factor, she couldn’t use it. She couldn’t think of enough of a plan, either. Frantically, she tossed the kunai on the ground and threw out her hands to guard her face, her eyes unconsciously clenching shut.

When no impact came after a few moments, the student opened her eyes again just as her opponent fell diagonally past her, meeting a tree stump on the left painfully face-first. Akane gasped and stepped back- it looked like he had knocked himself out. She struggled with wanting to help him and still being on-edge from the exercise- when she eventually resolved to at least turn him over onto his back, the older kunoichi had already lifted the unconscious boy onto her shoulders. Akane met her gaze wide-eyed, very unsure how to feel…

The girl brushed a length of hair away from her face with a hand. When her instructor flicked a small bundle in her direction, she started forwards, grabbing it out of the air with the other. As the woman turned to leave, she called behind her, “T-Thank you, ma’am! For teaching us.” After a moment, she set off towards home, still clutching the set of meal vouchers and trying to organize what she had learned that day.
