"Ewww... this place is just... gross," Kato thought to himself as he entered the dimly lit bar. Scantily clad women filled the room, milling about serving drinks to an assortment of creepy old men, dirty vagabonds, and thug-like low lives. "Even Hazashi-san wouldn't be caught in a place like this, would he?"
It had been three days earlier that the stocky teen had gotten his first clue as to the whereabouts of his family. He spent hours combing the streets, stopping in at every shop he could find,, and showing the picture of his mother and step-father. Few people tended to give him the time of day, and just barely glanced at the photos without really looking. The few who wanted to help the youngster had no recollection of the two.
Finally, on the day in question, someone finally recognized the picture he had been showing. Not only had they seen his family in the village, but the man even knew who his stepfather was.
"Yer lookin fer Hazashi Tenshin?" the man had asked, "Far as I know, he been stayin in the Grand Palais. Heard he came to Suna a while ago, but can't afford to get a decent place fer his family to live cuz he's got a taste for the shops in the Red Lights," he added with a wink, as if Kato was supposed to know what that meant.
Sure enough though, when Kato showed the picture to the bartender, he knew Tenshin as well. Turns out since coming to Suna, Kato's stepfather had become a raging alcoholic. Kato's mother had been wracked with guilt over her relationship with Kato, and the events in Leaf had made it worse. Tenshin frequented several bars like this, dropping his money on cheap liquor and women to try and escape the attitude in his home. he was becoming fed up with the annoying women he lived with, always whining about what had been lost in the Leaf village. Tenshin was thankful to be free, and was thinking maybe it was time he start a new life in Suna... at least that's what he rambled on about every night, talking the bartender's ear off.
So Kato's plan was try and pass the time in the bar and hope Tenshin might show up. A woman came up to him and handed him a drink. he was about to protest that he wasn't old enough, and didn't have the money for it, when she kissed him on the cheek. "First one's on the house cutie, haven't seen you in here before. Lookin for a friend?"
"No thanks", Kato said kindly, leaning away from the bosoms being forced in his face, "Not my type."
Geeze, wasn't there a regular person in this place to talk to?
