Osu checked his beeper for the time and went back to reading his book on applied chakra physics while sitting up in the stands. There was still a bit before the time he scheduled to use the arena. He was always a bit fascinated by the ability to change the environment of the arena a bit thanks to the wonders of the transformation hall. He smiled while peeking over the top of his book to look at the trees being installed around the outer area of the circle and the deep pond of water rising up a bit off center. They really took their work here seriously, Osu noted as he watched one shinobi walk through and making a field of grass and plants while even living stones here and there and leaving what looked remarkably like animal trails.

Some birds had also seemed rather impressed with the setting and decided to fly in, poor things. Perhaps they would be scared off before things got too serious. About ten minutes before the designated time the arena had been set up for a forested environment and Osu was down on it examining the finished work. It was very well done he thought as he shook a tree a bit and felt it was firmly rooted. They were quite lucky to have gotten the first slot for the forest setting. Maybe he would bring Kiri back when they set up the marsh setup in a few weeks. Never knew when they would be deployed on a "peace keeping" mission in a particular neighboring country.

Soon enough Osu heard a new heartbeat enter the arena. "You really have to admire their work in setting up these themed arenas," Osu announced to Kiri without looking behind him.

"So Kiri, I know you have a bit of fighting experience under your belt, but I wanted to give you a different sort of challenge today. It is quite simple really. We will be running you through some... well lets just call it survival practice. I will be throwing a few different styles of combat at you to see how well you handle them, while you simple try to survive and maybe even beat me. Any questions?"

Kiri was rather excited for that day. He had been too busy in the hospital lately that he thought he would become a zombie between reading through medical books and doing some duties around the wards. Lately, he had been helping with bedpans, much to his chagrin. Fortunately, today he was to meet with his mentor, Osu, though he was rather surprised that the place of rendezvous was the coliseum. That place somehow reminded him of when he had a fight with Haji before, and sometimes he would also render services as an assistant to the infirmary in the coliseum. Still, he couldn’t help but anticipate something unexpected.

In any case, Kiri would make sure to arrive before the time, and as soon as he stepped into the designated arena, he was surprised to find what looked like a forest. Down at the arena, he could spot Osu, so he would quickly jump over the border and land, and make his way towards his mentor. And just when he thought he could get the surprise on his mentor, he lucked out. Smiling, he would reply, “Good morning. Yes, this place is really handy then. Though I suppose I should have made good use of it back when Haji asked for a fight.”

Then as Osu would explain today’s lesson, Kiri couldn’t help but pay attention. He had known a bit of survival from formal classes in the academy (no matter how short his stint there was), but he had also learnt more in the field on his own, far before he appeared in the gates of Kumogakure. Still, he couldn’t deny that he would need all the help he could get and with Osu’s plans for today, he was in for a treat. “So, how exactly will this go about? That last part about ‘beating you’ gives me a strange vibe that this isn’t exactly a happy camping type of lesson.”

"Kiri it is one of those few times in life where things are really as straight forward as the sound. I'm going to attack you, you try to remain standing. If you can manage I want you to hit me back. Not really much to it on paper." Osu checked the time and saw they could officially use the arena now.

Osu did a light stretch, and sighed a bit. He was still a bit tired from his last shift and placed a bookmark in his book on chakra physics and slipped it up his sleeve. "I will give you a bit of time to prepare yourself before I start hitting you. Hmm... Less than 10 seconds before I make you feel like you are going through a blender. Starting now.

Osu began counting in his head as he reached out mentally towards Kiri and began drawing life force from the trainee, invigorating bloody tendrils that sprouted from Osu's skin that began slipping out hidden slit in the back of his yukata. He smiled as his student began to get serious. Well he should get a little into the fight as well.

The six hearts in his body all ceased beating for less than a moment then five of them began thrumming loudly with energy. They moved around in his body before connecting with the main heart that glowed dark within Osu's chest. The blood vessels in his body began writhing excitedly and his normally flawless skin began opening and closing cracks here and there revealing tiny peeks into the mass of blood vessels that made up Osu.

Even as Kiri began pulling a demonic energy over his body, confirming Osu's suspicions about Kiri being a Jinchurikki, he merely gave a wry smile. "You may have a demon inside you, but I am the real monster here," Osu thought, standing still even as he student ruched towards him with a blade.

The blade landed true, and Osu stared at his student. Good, Kiri had no hesitations for stabbing him... Hmmm? Ah he thought he felt something for a moment but the blood in his body expelled it without anything occurring. The strike didn't do much though and his blood vessels and skin quickly began repairing the damage.

Hmmm... Has it been long enough to get a little more serious? Probably. He began making handseals while still remaining where he was... hmm. Ahhhhhh.

His body ceased moving and he saw the oddity of the shadows. Since when had Kiri learned to manipulate shadows such? A pleasant surprise that. "Very good Kiri. Limiting my ability to move is an excellent use of the time you had. But I am afraid to say that this card will do you little good from this point on." Even though Osu was still giving Kiri a friendly smile, it just so happened at that moment the connections of his skin fluctuated a bit and opened a slit under Osu's liquid-like red Chigokai eyes and several small thin blood vessels spilled out and began exhibiting snake like movement on his cheek.

Unknown to Kiri, something was stirring in the area and it wasn’t his Beast. Before he knew it, he felt as though something had grabbed hold of him, constricting, slipping into his very soul, so he quickly took a step back as he made for a quick handseal and placed the jutsu on himself. It was an entirely new jutsu he had just learnt, so he wasn’t so sure if it could be a game changer just yet. At that point, Kiri would gather his chakra and enclose himself with it, leaving only a tiny hint of it as his features become slightly displaced to one’s view.

It was at this point when Kiri was surprised when he felt Osu’s heart stopped beating, a little thanks to his feisty beast inside that was beginning to indulge in this fight, but the next surprise came in the sudden throbbing of not just one but a lot of heartbeats. A glow towards the chest, no matter how faint, would be seen and Kiri got a feeling this would not be so easy at all. As such, he couldn’t help but let his beast protect him by let out his demonic cloak to gather around his body, allowing him to have sharper senses and stronger abilities for anything that could happen.

Without a second thought, Kiri would rush towards Osu with his wakizashi, Kunihiro, and managed to stab the latter, though it would seem as something a simple of a trick as that would not work. He quickly put distance between them once more as he observed Osu’s gaze and stature. Something was about to unfold and he could feel it. And so, Kiri would quickly let his chakra pour out and manifest into shadows that stretched fast and caught Osu. Thankful to his own bloodline, though he was far from being acquainted with its power just yet, Kiri managed to bound Osu for the time being.

But what now? While his mind raced to figure a strategy, he would resheath Kunihiro and draw out Nakigitsune, his loyal blade. And as he would listen to Osu’s words, he was surprised to see the other’s face open in a slit where blood vessels began to pour out like slithering snakes.

As the fight went on, Kiri would feed his demonic energies and let it strengthen his body. All the while, he kept a good watch on Osu while he maintained his hold over his mentor. And at that point, he was given enough time to strategies. However, much to his dismay, Osu managed to break free from his shadow binding at the very last moment. Kiri clicked his tongue as he jumped backwards, inwardly cursing not having used the opportunity more wisely as he had plans for it.

While he put some more distance between them, Kiri let out a quick handseal gesture to prepare himself to go into stealth. It was, at that particular point, however, when Osu seemed to have read his mind and spotted him. Almost immediately, the shadowy displacing aura about him took effect and he slipped away from the other’s sight, hiding in the shadows.

And as if to make things worse, the latter would show just how terrifying of an opponent he could be as multiple tendrils would shoot out towards Kiri. Despite his best effort to remain out of sight, he would be found and suffer numerous stabbings before he crashed back to the ground. He would not let it dampen his spirit, however, as he would quickly come to a stand.

It was at this point when Osu summoned his contract and much to Kiri’s surprise, there was a large female humanoid orca-look-alike that appeared. He was awestruck for a good long second as it was the first time he had seen her (at least, consciously since the last time Osu had done so, he was swatted away by Junko during that class and well, he was pretty much out of it). A bright red tint painted across his cheeks and he quickly shook his head and brought his mind back to the present. On his forehead, he would open his third eye (just for rp-sake now) as he was on to start again.

Osu shifted his shoulders some while wondering why his student wasn't attacking him. It was rather odd, a bit wasteful even. "Kiri you don't really think I will just stand around forever do you?" Osu asked while he broke out of the bind and watched the light around Kiri distort. He mentally reached out to mess with Kiri's footing, but the moment he did Kiri vanished into the shadows. Not a terribly big surprise but...

Osu's bloody tendrils shot out and followed the call of Kiri's blood flowing and stabbed into... Osu looked down at a naughty tendril that had decided to stab him instead. One of those constant reminders that this blood wasn't truly his. Well...

He flicked his thumb across the temporary wound and began using handseals. A huge poof and Dayuu, a very large Ocra-Mermaid, appeared.

"Kiri this will be your last chance I will give you to show me what you've got."

Osu instinctively stepped to the side feeling something, and spotting Kiri in the shadows. He could see Kiri quite clearly now so it seemed stealth was no longer his student's primary game. Well maybe it was time for him to give it a go he thought as he began to blend in with the surroundings. Then he was hit with a wave of shadows he was quite familiar with himself. Kiri has really been learning his shadow jutsu.

Then Osu realized something. Dayuu had never fought alongside anyone but her brother before. This became obvious when he found himself dodging one of her attacks aimed at Kiri. He was about to tell Dayuu to be careful when he caught Kiri's shadow darting for him again and jumped back.Perhaps he should show his student that shadows would serve him as well as he and the world directly around him grew dark. Dayuu cringed a bit seeing him since Osu had become a distorted dark shape that with elongated and far too flexible limbs and tendrils pouring out he looked very much the monster here (not even considering how wrong Osu's chakra felt these days).

Kiri's shadow once again shot out and while Dayuu didn't even notice any attempt to bind her had been made, Osu who was mostly a shadow now was once more caught but didn't really mind as the shadow reached up and began choking him. Before he could free himself however, Dayuu panicked and freed Osu by hitting the shadow... and himself, with a sonic attack.

"Dayuu!" Osu called out with damaged eardrums as his blood vessels once more attacked Kiri... and himself again annoyingly. Would the blood in his veins ever truly be his? "Focus Dayuu!" He would need to teach her properly how to combat with a partner apparently.

He then looked at Kiri he once more tried to bind him. "You are becoming rather predictable," Osu sighed. "It is time to at least check and see if you have learned how to properly use a medical ward."

 

[Kiri]

Kiri would let his demonic aura continue to surge around him as he would anticipate the enemy’s movements. Before he could let Osu take a move, though, he would have to do the strike. He would secretly prepare his blade, putting on a shine of a type of poison along the edge. And as he did so, he would quickly move out to confront Osu with a strike. Much to his disappointment, he could not even get a free shot at his mentor. The difference of their strengths and abilities was apparent. But he would not let it stop him.

At that moment, Kiri’s eyes would widened as he sees Osu’s figure wrapped up in a bizarre shadowy filter. It didn’t take him that long to recognize that this was akin to his own, one of which that makes the other blend with the surroundings. And it didn’t help that the visibility of the area was good for such things.

Without waiting, Kiri would put some distance between them as he swung out his arm, sending his chakra sliding across the surface to catch onto his opponents’ shadows. Successfully, a massive wave of shades would then shoot up at the two, hitting both Osu and Dayuu. At once, Kiri felt his senses change, and his awareness for Dayuu had increased. Once more, he spared a moment to look a the beautiful summon before him, right before he mentally reprimanded himself to focus on the fight at hand. Though that was a bit difficult considering he was experiencing a weird “doki-doki” beating in his chest and the frantic flushing of his cheeks.

Thus, his attempt to shoot out his chakra-infused shadow to bind Osu somehow failed with his lack of concentration. And perhaps it was at that momentary lapse of his that he did not see how Osu had quickly dropped a shady filter over himself, and from the looks of it, Osu looked like one of those nightmare creatures. But that was a welcomed sight as it quickly prompted Kiri to get his head right back into the game and focus.

He shot out, once more, his chakra-infused shadow and finally caught Osu, to which he would quickly follow-up with a straining pull on the shadows to choke Osu. Still, it was rather uncomfortable to watch that Osu didn’t even bother to react to that. Scary- he would think.

In any case, Kiri would then slide into the shadows, hoping to find some cover for himself, luckily escaping the surging attack from Dayuu. However, it was at that point that Osu would shoot out those bloody tentacles once more, and despite Kiri’s attempt to avoid it within the shadows, he barely dodged it. Fourteen times would those tentacles strike him and he fell to the ground with quite the beating, blooding pouring from his wounds. Gasping, he knelt on one knee as his mind began to think of ways to change his fate, if at all possible.

After a moment Osu stepped backwards, and vanished. That was really it. Forgoing all sense of humanoid shape Osu spread himself all around Kiri in the places his student could not observe and watched for a moment. Kiri attacked with the familiar shadow jutsu but it just wasn't happening. Dayuu then struck Kiri with a burst of sound like she had used on him just a bit ago, troublesome as that was.

Seeing Kiri take that alright Osu decided it was time to hit Kiri with real intent just to give him a taste of what he may have to deal with in the future. So Osu chopped him on the noggin. Taking full advantage of his freakish anatomy, Osu shot his arm up in a very roundabout way and delivered a chop to Kiri's noggin from above. He could feel Kiri's medical ward shatter under the pressure of his attack. Good, he had learned how to use it Osu thought while his limb returned to the shadows.

Kiri seemed to be more on guard though and managed to evade an attack from Dayuu... the same moment Osu's detached hand appeared beside Kiri's head and flicked his forehead. To be entirely honest saying he was simply giving Kiri a chop or a flick didn't really do either of them justice. There was a good deal of physics at work. But while one could go into explaining the kinetic force the initial chop delivered by detailing the energy (both chakra and straight life energy) Osu devoted to blood manipulation to maximize the speed by which he manipulated principles of transitional and rotational kinetic force, it would be far simpler to liken the force, motion, and effect to the hypothetical situation of an Olympic hammer thrower winding up their spin on top of a moving train and timing the throw to where they tossed the hammer in the precise direction the train is heading in before it hits a turn as to avoid damaging that which propels it forward. The flick to the forehead was a far simpler and considerably less powerful application of the same principles. Nerdy explanations aside, it hurt like hell. Rather Osu learned that he didn't find either particularly pleasant himself. He should avoid performing the one attack with that much force in the future whenever possible. He nearly lost control of it there he felt. He would try to come up with something more reasonable later.

That aside Kiri was out very much cold. Osu looked around and noted they still had the place booked for nearly a half hour...

After doctoring Kiri up a bit, Osu leaned him up against the trunk of a tree and sat next to him while staring at the pond in front of them while chatting a bit with Dayuu. Whenever Kiri finally came to he would find himself up in the stands with a note attached to him via safety pin.

"Dear Kiri,

Just a few comments really. First while drawing on that power you do fight more intensely, you need to remember how hazardous it can be towards others you might be working alongside, and keep that in mind for the future. Second while very effective initially, attempting to stall me by grabbing my shadow repeatedly is a dangerous habit to get which I tried to show you. Being too predictable can very easily get one killed in the field. Try to switch it up a bit, though it is a very effective technique. Also you shouldn't hesitate to strangle someone when you have a grip on their shadow as you did with me earlier.

Also. Well, I am sure it was nothing, maybe a misunderstanding on Dayuu's part but she mentioned receiving a look from you that made her uncomfortable. As if you... Well, if there is anything to that though, take it as a sign you need to keep focused during battle.

At that point, Kiri could feel the burden on his body. He could tell that he was pushing himself now and that perhaps a few bad decisions early on had cost him a lot. Despite the looks, his senpai was the real deal. And he could only grin at thought that he was hoping to win somehow. Nevertheless, he would not go down without a fight.

In his attempt to ensnare Osu into a prison of shadows, he lost track of his mentor as the latter would blend into the shadows themselves. And being tricked by his own strength was rather annoying. It was at that part when Dayuu suddenly released an audial attack that left him hurting and aching, and thankfully the medical ward was there to somehow relieve him, if only a little bit. But unfortunately for him, Kiri would suffer a rather surprising Osu Karate Chop… aka a good whacking on the head. Of which he would totally forget the pain and the world as he fell crashed unconsciously on the ground. His demonic aura would dissipate soon after.

Somewhere in this strange world, so much like a dream, Kiri found himself sitting in a tiny island. It was so small that it was barely ten steps to reach all sides. Then, as he sat there, there was Dayuu in the waters and he was waving at her. But suddenly, the wonderful weather turned dark and thunder and lighting appeared. A raging storm washed ashore and he drowned. In the last moments of his life, he would see an image of Osu’s villainy smug.

And he woke up with a bit of aching muscles, but surprisingly not too bad. He was stunned to see that he was along the seats now and he looked down at the sound of rustling paper. There was a note for him from Osu and somehow after reading it all, initially a bit annoyed at his failure in this encounter, he blushed a fine tint of red as he read the last part. He quickly kept the note and started out from the arena, wondering how would he explain his predicament to Osu. After all, it was possibly to ask Dayuu for a date, right?
