Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Taijutsu: The Shinobi's First Weapon

"Wait, what? Hinote asked, frozen in stupor as the clone assigned to him unfolded its own Fuuma shuriken and hurled it at his head. Before it could make contact, however, the boy snapped back into reality and parried the projectile with his own. His eyes widened as the clone dove towards him, feinting a sweep before it retrieved their weapon of choice, this time folding it for use as a melee weapon.

"The hell, sensei!?" he asked rhetorically as the clone slashed at him with rapid yet precise strikes, forcing the student to block each blow as he desperately looked for an opportunity to start his own offense. Unfortunately, it seemed as though Shimatsu-sensei's doppelganger was also looking for an opening to finish the fight, as now its pattern of attacks had an steady yet ominous rhythm.

And, much like Hinote had dread, that rhythm was now staccato with more powerful, yet less precise strikes interspersed at random intervals.

"Shit!" he silently cursed as he kept blocking, parrying, and dodging each attack. But as his exhaustion and desperation grew, so did the clone's impatience. As the boy was on the verge of collapsing, he looked up to see the clone winding up for a finishing blow. In less than a few seconds, the fight would be over.

Before the clone could launch its attack though, the boy stabbed the shuriken into the ground and punched the clone's groin with what little energy he had left. As his opponent doubled over in pain, Hinote stood up, plucked his weapon from stone arena, and paused for a moment in front of the clone.

"In this position, you remind me of someone I would've killed if someone else didn't beat me to it," he spoke solemnly as he lifted the clone's head by its chin before slicing its throat from ear to ear, dispelling it into whatever element it consisted of. "So I guess you'll have to do."

Uchiha Moeka immediately ceased toying around with her knife when the class had truly begun. Her expression was rather gloomy; she understood the necessity of having to fight an opponent like this, and yet naturally couldn't help but feel intimidated by the height of the challenge she needed to overcome. She assumed a proper grip on the kunai, the sharp tip of the weapon pointed at the clone. It was a stalemate - neither the little girl nor the fiery double of her teacher could act in fear of getting pierced first. It wasn't even a question of skill. Anyone could land a lethal strike in a scuffle like this simply through luck.

The kunai, much like any ordinary knife, provided no reach to work with, left no room for openings, blocked all opportunities with unavoidable risk. She paced side to side, circling around the ring, looking for an opportunity to strike without hurting herself in the process. Knife fights always were too dangerous to be worthwhile.

But Uchiha Moeka still needed to prevail, so she gave it her best.

After a sudden lunge that spanned a half-step, Moeka swung her knife. The weapon, hopelessly out of reach, cut only air. Her half-step was a feint, but the attack held an unpredictable meaning - as the kunai drew its arc, it was released from the girl's grasp, circumventing the weakness of its pitiful range. As the clone flinched in preparation for what seemed to be the student's impatient charge, Moeka flung the dirk towards where she watched it move. The weapon was aimed at the chest in order to put out the fire clone's fake life in an instant.

Ryuuka was too busy watching his classmates fight the fiery opponents to realize that he had one of his own, in fact they were even behind him. Only the minimum amount of Ryuuka's instincts noticed the strike from behind and kicked in, the pushed Ryuuka forward hurdling him in what was the direction of the outer ring helping him dodge the blow but not completely. The slash missed but wasn't a complete failure as it caused a cut to appear on his right shoulder ranging from his shoulder bone to his elbow, his launch forward in a dodge sent him tumbling out of the ring into a more rough terrain, small rocks lay in the ground with specs of grass here and there spread widely in the sea of dirt and dust. Ryuuka spins as he gets up in a low sweep fashion as the clone runs at him but not to move him off the ground but to distract him, the fiery man takes a short leap back as he dodged the sweep but he played right into the shinobi's hands.

As the dust cleared there was no Ryuuka to be seen behind it, as the clone frantically looked side to side for his opponent until his arm got caught on something, the clone looked at its arm revealing to it that it was constricted by a kunai linked to a chain owned by Ryuuka. The clone had their weapon holding arm constricted and bound to Ryuuka's chain leaving them wide open for a perfect surprise attack from Ryuuka, the blade on the scythe swooped clean down at the neck but was stopped by the clone's kunai which he was wielding in the opposite hand, Ryuuka had clearly made a miscalculation.

Only cutting into the opponents collar bone the bleeding flame replica of his teacher kicked Ryuuka in the chest which was blocked by the shinobi then swung back around at the clone spinning him off balance and onto its behind, the chains though had been untangled and fell off, Ryuuka quickly picked up then threw the kunai into his sensei's chest finally defeating the foe. It had taken more than just technique to beat a clone of his teacher, it may have the strength of his sensei but it sure didst share his brain, Ryuuka's cunning and skill to plan on the go was what he thought to be impeccable.

The whole class, save for one student who seemed immobilized by fear, though Shigeru suspected it could be more of his Nara blood poking through, performed their task admirably. Some of them were clearly more developed than others, Tazu for instance took a real beating. However, with a few simple handseals, all the clones that hadn’t been defeated poofed away back into the Aether. A taste of real battle had just been had, but that didn’t mean that the students had actually learned anything. Shigeru had thought about this moment a lot, how to enforce the true meaning of Taijutsu to these students. First though, Shigeru walked over to Tazu and performed a simple healing ninjutsu on him; the boy would feel all the pain be dispersed immediately, which would hopefully make the rest of the class a much more enjoyable experience.

Turning to the class, Shigeru looked at the students in all of their freshly battled splendor. “If you can’t tell, those clones were more than a match for each of you, but you all were careful and observant which eventually gave you the upper hand in the fight. Even an opponent who outmatches you can be outsmarted, never forget that. Though ninjutsu strength comes from your inner reservoir of chakra and intense training, a thing not easily overcome in the course of a single battle, Taijutsu strength comes from practice, skill, and wits. In the end, it doesn’t matter if your opponent has the strength of the Raikage if they aren’t smart enough to use that power effectively.” Looking over his students, he hoped that sage advice would at least mean something to them.

“Now, having fought someone of an equal strength with a similar weapon, can any of you tell me why you think any shinobi would focus on Taijutsu as their main source of power over the more flashy and deadly ninjutsu?”

It didn't take Sora long after the question was asked to already have an answer. It was quite simple to him really. Though he took a few more moments just in case and went over the answer in his head a few times before he decided to share his answer. Though, it seemed nobody else was willing to answer first. Perhaps they didn't know it? Didn't matter to Sora though.

" The answer is because with Chakra, if you use it all, you could die, you can become weakened by exhausting yourself of your chakra, even become unable to move. There's also the rare occasion that there is somebody who simply can't use ninjutsu or genjutsu. And as such, Taijutsu is very reliable. Your training in Taijutsu won't betray you, while any ninjutsu or genjutsu can. "

Ryuuka lowered his weapons and let out a sigh of relief as the teacher spoke, it was almost too obvious to him why a shinobi would use taijutsu in battle over the other forms of combat, and as Sora spoke Ryuuka listened to his point of view and saw that he came to the same realization that he did.
"it is true that jutsu can be stronger and more devastating but when it boils down to the basics the one thing you can always rely on is taijutsu, as Sora stated you dont have infinite chakra and in my perspective Ninjutsu and Genjutsu arent based off skill but your chakra within. If you have the appropriate chakra level you can do almost anything without requiring any skill whether when it comes to Taijutsu skill is everything, your technique, power, execution all matters and comes into play to make a beauty of life."

[[OOC - Sorry I've been under the weather myself]]

Tazumoto stood up after being healed by the instructor. He thought he did quite alright despite bleeding all over the place. He took a moment to consider the instructors question. Finally he answered "A Shinobi should focus on Taijutsu because it has several advantages Ninjutsu does not. You can use your speed and agility against your opponent, you can also easily cripple your opponent as well by attacking limbs. You can also use the chakra you would spend on ninjutsu on improving your taijutsu. It does have it's disadvantages against Genjutsu however, you can't punch your way out of a genjutsu." Tazumoto took a moment, and continued "All in all sensei, I believe in a more well rounded approach to fighting. I believe ninjutsu and genjutsu are just as important as taijutsu, each have their own advantages and disadvantages."

Uchiha Moeka stepped towards the dispersed clone, crouching down to pick up her kunai. She had suddenly grown flustered, uncertain whether it's safe to pick the weapon back up. Slowly, her hand reached for the steel, tapping it with her index finger. Moeka frowned in mild annoyance - that wasn't enough to gauge the metal's current temperature. Still keeping up a wary expression, her fingers moved to tap the weapon again: the knife was warm, but not overwhelmingly so. With a small sigh of relief, the girl took it and stood up to address the teacher.

"Taijutsu is fast and practical. Ninjutsu and Genjutsu require handseals, and most of the effects are massive, devastating and tiring, for better or worse. If collateral damage is something to look out for in a given situation, or you're expecting to spend a long time fighting enemies, it might be best to rely on Taijutsu instead of the other two." Said Moeka, and having finished, returned to twirling the kunai around.

Hinote nodded silently as Shimatsu-sensei spoke, slowly standing up to face the progenitor of the clone he had just slain. The tension from the fight was still coursing through his veins, causing him to tremble ever so slightly as the instructor asked them to give an example of why a shinobi would prefer Taijutsu over Ninjutsu or Genjutsu.

His eyes widened for a moment as he tugged on the legs of his pants to make sure they were still covering his prosthetic limbs; after reassuring himself that they were, he exhaled a sigh of relief.

"Efficiency," he answered. "Taijutsu typically uses the least amount of chakra in its attacks while still remaining effective. If one has limited control over their chakra, then Taijutsu would more than likely be the best option for them."

“Every single one of you is correct. That is a praise I do not give out too often. Taijutsu is efficient and fast, and it is something that can be trained to become more effective. Every shinobi can benefit from using taijutsu in some way, even if you are going to use mainly ninjutsu. I am one of those shinobi who use ninjutsu mainly, but with taijutsu, I have been able to push my body further than it would have normally been able to go. This mixed style has given me many new options in my battles. One of these is combos. Many Taijutsu have a natural affinity to combo with other Taijutsu, speeding up the already quick attacks. Though some don’t see the benefit of having these combos go off, keep in mind that there are all sorts of combos. Here are a few to demonstrate.”

With a handseal another clone appeared next to Shigeru in a fighting stance, within moments the two were locked in hand to hand combat. Quickly, though, Shigeru lashed out with his leg and then immediately jumped into the air, grabbing his clone by the neck on his way up, and then once his jump had reached its peak Shigeru threw the clone down with all his might. To finish, Shigeru sent a plume of Great Dragon Fire after the clone, both the clone and the flames hit the ground with a torrent of heat and destruction. With grace, Shigeru landed back on his feet, enemy dispatched. “This was a basic combo, take out the legs to unbalance, then take advantage of it. I like to finish my combos with ninjutsu to add a particular amount of damage to these. Taijutsu can combo with Ninjutsu and Genjutsu just as easily, making your other jutsu quicker in the process. Now class, answer me this. In what ways do you think Ninjutsu or Genjutsu can make your Taijutsu more effective?”

Nara Kenta shakes his head rapidly. He looks around, hoping people didn't realise him spacing out. He refocuses on the teacher's lesson, deciding that although he has knowledge of fighting he'll need the strength to back it up. Kenta walks out of the corner he was idly standing in and joins the rest of his classmates. He quickly reverts back to a book he read about the arts of Genjutsu, Taijutsu, and Ninjutsu in order to answer his teacher's question. Kenta snaps as his answer forms in his mind. "In battle, Genjutsu and Ninjutsu can help your Taijutsu in many ways. For example, if you were to use a sort of Genjutsu that could immobilize or blind your opponent, you can easily get devastating blows on their vital areas without them being able to do anything about it. As for Ninjutsu, as you just showed us you can use it to add more of an offensive advantage like catching them off guard with a blast of fire. Once disoriented, you can go in for the finishing shot using your weapon". Kenta takes in a deep breath, not used to saying such a large amount of words in one go. Once he caught his breath he smiles, gaining some confidence which adds to the little he previously had.

Tazumoto pondered the question for well over a minute, he wanted to make sure that he covered both bases. He would start with Genjutsu "Genjutsu and Taijutsu can be used together to paralyze the opponent in order to get in a far more lethal attack. If the opponent cannot move or defend themselves, then they are open to critical attacks that could end their life or cripple them. Being able to move on the offense is essential to taking the least damage possible, but if you can''t do that, then you are in trouble. I would say that they make quite a good couple, but would be more effective in a teamwork situation where one person is holding the Genjutsu and the other attacks."

Tazumoto paused once he finished his initial explanation, he continued with "Taijutsu and Ninjutsu can make an effective combination, but mainly through elemental affinity in my option. You can use various elemental affinities to power up your own Taijutsu attacks, like a lightning or fire kick. You could also also use some jutsu to capture or paralyze another opponent, then follow up with Taijutsu. But I don't know of many ninjutsu where that would be handy, so I will stick with my elemental affinity answer."

Ryuuka had to think about this one as he had never actually used a combo before and tried to think of his own, once it finally popped into his head a shock wave of knowledge and realization on combos surged through his body like lightning through a metal rod. "As it just came to me Its simple, the more you combine the stronger you become. When combining lets say a genjutsu with taijutsu without trapping them in their own mind or putting them to sleep as that would be devastating to the opponent it is also going to stop a fair and noble fight, using genjutsu trick the opponents then pummeling them is more effective as they will be seeing different to what is actually happening as it does or using it to disarm or catch off guard as you strike" Ryuuka said as his knowledge of genjutsu flowed from his brain to his mouth. Moving onto Ninjutsu he stood up straight then spoke. "Ninjutsu on the other hand is also powerful as a combo, speed and agility with power to cover the short range of taijutsu you have if done right could be impenetrable, simple kicks and punches alone can win the fight but if you want a guarantee then ninjutsu is the perfect way to do so, attacking or defending it can do both as your fists of fury guide the way"

Sora listened to the rather detailed explanations everybody else was giving, thinking they mainly covered everything, but he better add something in as well. Though, it really sounded like he was just repeating what everybody else said. " I'd say a good use for ninjutsu would be perhaps flow lightning in your hands , and connecting with a Taijutsu attack. If you make contact then it's a sure way to deliver the lightning. Though, that's just one example. What you did is also an excellent example. And I also agree with what everybody else is saying with genjutsu, though there is more to it than that. Perhaps, create an object Infront of them with genjutsu, make them imagine seeing things to help position then in a spot favorable to you so you can trap them... Though, that's just my opinion of course.. "

Sora closed his eyes for a moment, and continued thinking more. He was hoping he wouldn't be criticized for the input he gave, though wasn't really sure he would be criticized. His answer was one he put plenty of thought into and was constructed nearly and it flowed rather well, as he started off with one topic then lead into the genjutsu. Even making sure to mention Sensei's demonstration of a combo using Taijutsu and ninjutsu. Though he is always welcoming constructive criticism that is. Once his thoughts ended, he looked around at the other students around the area, examining them some while still focusing on the Sensei and his lesson.

"Like everyone has said so far, you can use Genjutsu to distract an opponent and then use Taijutsu to deliver your blows. Ninjutsu can get very broad, though. Cover your arm in flames and hit someone, simply use the two disciplines in tandem with each other, create clones to overwhelm them with numbers... I could go on for a while, sensei." Uchiha Moeka shrugged, her ponytail flailing about. "There's a ton of ways to use Taijutsu with each of the discipline and sub-discipline, countless possible combinations with the various types of Genjutsu and the elements of Ninjutsu..." Feeling herself going off on a tangent, the little girl quieted down. The hand that had been playing around with the throwing knife suddenly dropped the weapon, which stabbed itself into the ground. She crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for the lesson to continue.

[OoC: Been working over a lot this week to make up for lost hours. Sorry everyone.]

"Both ninjutsu and genjutsu eschew efficiency in favor of far greater versatility," Hinote began to answer. "After all, there are only so many ways to hold and swing a sword or throw a punch, yet there are countless ways to manipulate the elements or the senses."

A smirk crossed his visage as he began pacing on the stone platform.

"So when you combine an efficient offense with versatile options--both offensively and defensively--it becomes increasingly difficult for the opponent to anticipate your next attack and defend against it appropriately. For example, what Shimatsu-sensei just demonstrated could have simply been two attacks: throw the clone into the air, then kill it with fire. Or it could have also been just one attack with ninjutsu alone."

Hinote stopped pacing and looked at each of the students and the sensei himself before going for the big finale.

"However, I doubt he would have wanted to use that particular ninjutsu multiple times on a mere clone. That would be an egregious waste of not only chakra, but of time and damage as well."

The smirk turned into a grin as he added one last note:

"A shinobi should never aim for overkill."

[OoC: For all intents and purposes, this was the end of the class. I will be making a post soon. Something about how you should train your own specific taijutsu and to always remember how to utilize it in your fight. I'm currently at another realtor's office looking for a home. So this post might not be up for the next two days. All of you passed the class. Go ahead and post your exits! Go join that other class!]
