Name: Takahashi Ren
Age: 13
Gender: Female
Rank: Genin
[spoilername="General Description"]At thirteen, Ren still looks a year or two younger but at least has the height of someone nearing adolescence. Her hair is as blonde as ever, though she's noticed it darkening a bit, and her eyes are the same, near opaque blue they've always been. Her wardrobe consists of shirts, hoodies, and shorts (she stoops to wearing jeans when the weather demands it), and the occasional fancy outfit when required.[/spoilername]
[spoilername="History"]Ren was born to a teenage mother and an absentee father. If life had gone its natural course, she probably would have grown up to be a no-nonsense kind of kid, the kind the entire neighborhood feared. As it was, Ren's mother spent most of her time away working and left Ren in the care of their elderly neighbors. Those neighbors, having raised and pushed along numerous kids and grandkids, took in Ren as their own and made sure that she turned out relatively decent. She stayed out of trouble (for the most part), fed the stray cat that had wandered into her small home (when she remembered to), and helped her neighbors with their chores (after the old lady chased her with a broom). Despite lacking traditional parents, or even a traditional childhood, Ren liked her life. It wasn't exciting or earth-shattering, but it was hers and to be honest, she liked boring. Boring was safe, and she was more than content to stay boring until that thing called 'growing up' came around and whisked her away.
When her tenth birthday came and went, and all she had to show for it was a single inch added to her height, Ren's mother asked her if she'd put any thought into her future. Ren said no; she was a kid, happy to stay that way until forced out. Her mother, though, had other plans, and told Ren to consider the ninja academy.
"It's dangerous, of course," she said. "But…I like to think you'd be happier there, than with my life." She smiled, and Ren belatedly remembered that while she chased cats, her mom chased down crappy-paying jobs on the coastline.
So Ren -- whose only official rule in life was to wash behind her ears, and whose unofficial rule was to make her mom as happy as possible -- agreed. She enrolled in the academy, to her mother's wary pride, and figured that at any rate, her life wouldn't be as boring as before. Though whether or not that was good remained to be seen.[/spoilername]
