Name: Takenaka Kyo
Age: 12
Physical Description: Kyo is a slight boy, as he can be considered rather short for his age and his slender physique does him no favors. He has messy dark blue hair, and light blue eyes. Kyo favors dark colors when it comes to his clothing, and can almost always be seen with his light blue desert robe with his hood up. He has white tattoos going down the both sides of his face, from his forehead, over his eye and down to his chin. His face is slightly gaunt, making his high cheekbones stand out even more, due to slight malnutrition. He is a victim of resting "bitch-face", so his default expression makes him look slightly pissed off.
Mental Description: Kyo is a quiet boy, can be most often seen in the company of books and scrolls, though it isn't entirely by choice as his facial expression and harsh personality makes it difficult for him to make friends. He is brutally honest to a fault as he has no time to play polite if there is nothing he can benefit from it, and sarcasm is his go-to defense mechanism when he gets uncomfortable or scared. Kyo loathes to lose or make mistakes, and so will always try to to plan for any and all outcomes to the point where it can some times be a disadvantage. He has no sense of honor, and will resort to any dirty trick or cheating maneuver to win what he wants. In his eyes, if it is a fair fight for your opponent, you're doing something wrong.
Still for all his faults, if you earn his loyalty and friendship you have it for life. He guards his friends jealously, and it is difficult to say exactly what lengths he would go to to protect those he considers his. One thing is for sure, if it came between betraying his friend or his village he would betray his village in a heartbeat, no regrets. Of course he is clever enough to hide this fact, he lives in a shinobi village after all where loyalty to the village is supposed to be above all else. Those that befriend him will also see a softer and kinder side to him, as he relaxes in their presence.
He has a bit of a soft spot for cats, and can be seen feeding strays sometimes or bringing them home. He will also read anything he can get his hands on as he has taken the phrase "knowledge is power" to heart. Kyo is deathly afraid of losing his father, and the recent cabal attacks only worsened this fear as it seems not even being a civilian/retired shinobi is safe anymore. Even if he cabals were defeated it caused Kyo to feel unsafe even in his own home. He is also skeptical to "Project Rebirth" since it will mean things will change, at the same time as he finds it a relief as the underground city no longer feels safe.
History: Kyo lives with his father Ichiya, who is a retired shinobi after a serious injury ruined his career, while his mother died on a mission 4 years ago. The small family is barely getting by on Ichiya's small army pension, and so currently they live in a small apartment in the Grand Palais however they used to have a place in Zietch Sensunna. From the moment he was born Kyo was trained to be a shinobi, and no other life path has seemed possible. Both his mother and father taught him basic taijutsu, how to throw kunai, how to build up muscles and stamina etc. and much of his childhood was centered around this. He had never really thought about how he was being groomed to be a shinobi, until his mother died on a mission while his father escaped with a career ending injury and then the harsh reality came knocking. Kyo truly understood the hard and most likely short life he had been signed up for, and he resents the fact that even though he could always choose not to become a shinobi it really isn't a choice. It is what would make his father happy, and what his mother would have wanted.
So from the age of eight the small family lived in the slums, barely scraping by and Kyo became focused on trying to graduate so he could earn money. And after the djinn and then the cabal spectacle, becoming more powerful so he can protect those he cares about became extremely important to him. After they started rebuilding on the surface his father began talking about moving up, as Ichiya misses how his missions gave him chances to leave the underground city, but they both know that because of their money issues they will probably be some of the last to be relocated.
