‘Ah, brotherhood’ Ai muttered to himself as he climbed out the nearest window. As luck would have it, today it was the window with the large tree underneath, making for an easy descent onto the snow covered ground below. ‘At least you don’t have to go through the neighbor’s yard today.’
Rubbing the fresh nip on his leg from one of the neighbors three tenacious ankle biters, Ai vaulted the low fence out into the residential neighborhood his father had planted him and his five brother’s in after their mother’s death. As usual Ai had donned his trusty brown cloak, which he could tell had been a good idea by watch the snow whipping around his feet as he walked, the cold wind piling the snow into steep banks against the houses and trees.
‘I wonder if I could use those as cover’
And just like that, a new ‘game’ was born. Being generally distrustful of people, Ai hated having attention put on him. It was to the point that he did all could to avoid even being seen, always adapting and adding new methods to prevent detection. That came into play now as he leapt forward into the nearest bank of snow, settling with his back against the tree as he watched the snow settle around him. As if on cue, Ai’s oldest brother Tama sprinted into view, flying out of site after perching in a nearby tree. Judging by his siblings frantic pace, Ai knew it could mean only one thing.
‘Brother hunting again… Goodie.’
