Personality: Shinji is a quiet loner. He doesn't like speaking a lot of the times but when he does, he speaks a lot. Growing up, he didn't have a lot of chances to talk to people, nor did he feel the need to, nor did he feel the need to interact with people. Hence, he grew up to be socially awkward and conversationally stunted. It doesn't help that his blank face makes people think he understands everything when he really doesn't. Why doesn't he just ask? He's too prideful to ask, that's why. On missions, he way too serious and, usually, he really can't take a joke, unnecessary tasks and stopovers. One could say he is a bit stiff and frigid in that regard. That is not the only situation wherein he is frigid though. He is frigid in all meanings of the word, even to the opposite sex or the same sex as one might assume. He doesn't know why but he never had any interest in romance in any way shape or form. He doesn't see the point anyway. Being 11, all he cares about is getting up the ninja ladder and getting stronger.
On non-mission related issues, Shinji is genuinely curious about everything and he doesn't feel, nor have the ability to be, embarrassed or ashamed of his own actions. He is bold and daring when it comes to investigating things that pique his curiosity, most especially if it involves, sword crafting, food and food making/preparation. He is also genuinely interested in playing the flute and drawing, the latter of which he genuinely sucks no matter how hard he tries. He also has interests in dancing although he has yet to dish out cool moves, unlike his usual jump up and down dance or the duck dance he really enjoys.
When he is engaged in a conversation with someone, he will talk off, no matter if you're close or not. He will tell you things you want to know and in return, he will tell you whatever is on his mind, even if what is on his mind is that you really smell or you're really stupid IMO.
Whenever he gets sad, angry and doesn't want to show it, he goes off to some corner, kneels and stabs the ground with his katana repeatedly, seething. If you're close enough, he will just sit there like a child cry voicelessly, face scrunched up.
As a side note, I would also like to point out that, left alone to his thoughts, he will begin thinking about random pointless things like if he were to pass with flying colours, which colour should he fly in?

History: Tategawa Shinji is an adopted son of Tategawa Shin and Inami Sakura, both coming from rich clans, both desperately trying to prove their worth on their own, to get rich on their own without using their family's money. Through hardwork and forged connections, they were able to prevail and give Shinji's first 11 years of life a lot of luxury and comfort. Now that Shinji is at the Academy, they told him to do the same thing. Being the only child, he thought of this as a challenge. It would be his first time living on his own. His parents gave him money to buy himself a house but that's it. He would have to find a job to pay for the bills and be able to, not just survive, but prevail with flying colours.
