Female
Physical Description
A scrawny girl of 10 years, Kaori usually always has a smile upon her face. She has long lavender hair, reaching all the way down to the back of her knees, that glistens in the sunlight showing that she takes very good care of her hair. Her hair is one of her favorite features, so it is because of that that she combs it every night to excite the oils in her scalp to give it a nice shine. Occasionally she cuts the tips of her hair to prevent split ends. Her eyes match her hair, appearing to have a special 'spark' in her eyes every time she smiles.
She was called "squirrely girl" growing up by her closest friends due to her puffy cheeks, something she seems to be rather embarrassed of, but she does like the attention that she receives when adults pinch her cheeks and say how cute she is.
She stands at a puny 4'2" tall, having been the runt of her family and weighing at 65 lbs.
She has porcelain skin, silky smooth and beautiful without a blemish.
She could be seen wearing every-day clothing of a sun-dress when out on the town enjoying herself. When she plays, she plays in tomboyish t-shirt and jeans, not hesitating to get herself dirty (though, when she gets dirty, she takes long bathes to ensure her skin is smooth and clean). During major holidays, however, Kaori can be seen wearing a shrine-maiden dress.
While she isn't quite old enough to wear earrings or any jewelry, one thing that accompanies her at all time are strange black horns upon the top of her head. Normally, she keeps her head covered so people wouldn't have to see her horns, but sometimes she is forced to show them off which causes people to either fear her for being a monster or adore her for being something different.
Mental Description
Kaori is generally up-beat and cheerful. She takes her duties very seriously, however, sometimes breaking away from social gatherings to perform her duties at the shrine or even doing her homework. Her dedication to duty has caused many of her friends to stop interacting with her because she was 'being a debby downer' and 'buzz-killington'. While losing friends does make her sad, she is very dedicated about her duty and feels that her duty is something she needs to concentrate on for the better of herself, her family, and of the village.
Even in the toughest of times, her natural reaction to everything is to smile. The smile, however, isn't infallible and is capable of failing her. During extremely stressful or emotional times, her smile can faulty leaving her in tears with everyone else. The first thing Kaori would do once she finished bawling her eyes out would be to make sure her friends were happy; seeing her friends happy made her happy so there is mutual gain in her false facade.
Kaori is also a hopeless romantic, having crush on boys (or girls) but not acting on her emotion; bottling up deep inside. Due to her shyness when approaching her crush, she generally always misses her opportunity to confess her true feelings for that person; being swept up by another due to her timidness. However, this inability to confess her feelings hasn't really affected her in the slightest. After failing, she psyches herself up and tells herself that 'she will get it next time' even if it leads to the next impending failure.
Historical Description
Kaori is the youngest out of a family of 5 siblings. She was born to a religious household and she was forced to undergo training to become the next Dragon Maiden. While dragons aren't known to ever actually exist, her family is dead-set on maintaining the shrine for the Great Dragon for her family believes that the Great Dragon will one day return to the earth and become the savior of humanity. Due to the conditioning of her mother, Kaori took this 'duty' of her's quite seriously. She trained for months in the rituals involving praying and appeasing the Great Dragon. However, as she got older and her prayers weren't answered, she became more and more skeptical on whether or not this Great Dragon exists.
Kaori didn't suffer a tragic past where her family was murdered. She lived a very normal life with friends (some that she'd lose due to her dedication to the Shrine) and a fairly normal family (aside from the brain-washing by her mother to become the next Dragon Priestess). However, she was picked on as a child because of her horns. As fate would have it, it is due to these horns that Kaori would be stuck becoming the Dragon Priestess. She was said to have been "blessed by the dragon" and was "born with the horns of the dragon".
When Kaori was 7, she had a friend named Rokubungi Mina that saw through her horns and through her 'call-to-duty' with the Shrine and started to help Kaori know what it was like to be a kid. The two would get into trouble, run through the woods, swim in the lake, and shirk Kaori's responsibilities. Kaori would get into so much trouble because of Mina, but she didn't care (at the time) she was having fun. Her fun, however, stopped when Mina was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive illness inflicting her blood. Mina eventually passed away when Kaori was 8 years old and she was absolutely devastated.
She recoiled and returned to her duties, now affirmative that this was the price she had to pay for not performing her duties at the Dragon Shrine. It is because of Mina's death that caused her to be completely diligent in her duties and the fact that she had lost many friends because of it. It was at the age of 10 that Kaori remembered something that Mina had told her.
I want to become a shinobi
Those words resonated within her and her mind was made up. Defying her mother, Kaori enrolled into the shinobi academy to become a ninja in an effort to make her dear friend Mina proud. Upon enrolling, she considered becoming a shinobi one of her duties which means she will have to balance both the Shrine and becoming a shinobi.
