Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It had been a wonderful week in Sunagakure, and honestly, Tama had almost forgotten about actual responsibilities for the bliss that was being back home.

Things had changed. The city was buzzing with far more business and commerce than it had before, and there was a lively vibe to the old stones that hadn’t been there when last he visited; or perhaps, he just couldn’t enjoy it last time. Removing himself of a soul had been the best choice the Ryuu had made in awhile, the tale-tale call of the Solar Ancient blood in him all but mute now. Things like human appetite and thirst were slowly becoming normal again which allowed him to enjoy the new imports of food, liquor in a way that wasn’t co-dependent, and the flesh of his fellow man in a form he had forgotten was necessary.

In short, it felt good to be mostly human again.

Yet as fascinating as Suna had become once more, the Ryuu also eventually found his way to the seedy underbelly to check up on old contacts, disappointment that Shin had not taken the bait. It was a shame and a blessing all at once as one of his old friends down here had managed to make a good living for themselves after Toushin finally stopped controlling things. After that, it was on to the new Arboretum. It was there upon seeing all the rare herbs that were being cultivated did his avarice peak once more to say "hello", proper, and remind the scientist casually that there was money to be made. At the moment, the scientist didn't particularly need the money. The friend downstairs gave him a back pay for an investment the scientist had almost forgotten about, and it was a hefty sum - but it was no where near enough to fund his projects, just his lifestyle.

So, sure to his word, a letter arrived on Shin’s coffee table exactly around noon. Tama of course was nowhere to be found, simply a slight metallic taste in the air of electricity and wind born of a unique chakra coil was all that he had left to notate the fact he had even graced the Medical Chief’s office with his presence. Within the letter the spot requiring Tama’s signature was still blank, leaving the contract open to be touched on if Shin felt like it was needed but it was clear the old legend was hoping for his demands to be simply met.

I, Ryuu Tama, First of His Name, First of the Hybrid, and Chakra Specialist PhD, do hereby sign away a portion of my freedom to the whims of Sunagakure’s Omni-Prime Facility with the following caveats;

1: I will under no direction attempt to preform an operation, create a serum, or conduct any experimentation that can, or will in due course, bring about the destruction of Sunagakure, the Omni-Prime Facility, or any humanoids within either.

2: I retain my rights to formulate my own opinions, gather my own research, and be allowed to ignore all previous procedure in executing any task given to me by the Omni-Prime Facility.

3: I will be allowed to say “no”, three times a year, within a monthly basis. One “no” drops off every 3 months of the year. Should I be forced to say “no” three times within six months this contract and everything agreed upon within will be terminated. Exceptions will be made if any refusal goes against the first and fifth clauses within this contract.

4: I will not work Split Shifts. This is non-negotiable.

5: When working I demand to have a team of no less than three different specialists, a general surgeon, and four nurses willing to work like horses. This team is not here to help guide me to a medicinal conclusion, but to listen to my orders, to the letter, and execute them the moment I say so. I will take referrals from the acting Medical Sennin or Medical Chief in regards to this team without question.

6: Payment for my services are completed in two-step. Half at the start, half at the finish. Any assignment I am offered, be it curing a mysterious illness, return to life the recently deceased, or simply work a 12hr shift as the on floor doctor; upon failure I will forfeit the full cost back to the Omni-Prime Facility.

7: Upon initiation of this Contract a grant of 1.5 billion Yen will be paid to me to finish research and development of the following:
- Cure of Chakra Cancer: a detailed thesis on the reversal of cancer that has developed on the chakra coil using a mixture of common herbs engineered to heavily produce specific chemicals. This research is already done and only needs to be submitted for study.
- Soldier Pill #1987: a medicinal battlefield aid that has been re-engineered to produce a mass of calories that the pill’s effects can consume in place of the shinobi’s own calories to reduce the detrimental side-effects to moot. Potentially addictive properties that reside in the current Soldier Pill batch, #877, have been completely removed. Current side-effects include drowsiness and mild cognitive disorder. Funds with grant will be used to remove these side-effects completely into batch #1988.
- Rosphocillina (azuroaxime) - An antibiotic created using special compounds found within cacti grown under certain mountain conditions, molds gathered from remnants of sand worm tunnels, and the rare flower genus azure Rosaceae. The mixture has placed into studies involving local bacterial diseases that produce deadly fevers, paralysis, respiratory difficulty, and circulatory damage. The drug has thus far shown to not only alleveate the symptoms caused by these bacteria, but in some cases even reversed the damage done. Funds with grant will be used to find the missing link between humanoids that are effected by this drug and how to ensure that it reverses bacterial damage for any consumer.

8: The terms within this contract are good for the next ten years, at which the contract will end unless it is renewed, (excluding clause 7 unless three new projects worth are pushed forward, and with following amount of future grants being entirely negotiable). This contract can only be ended by the following methods:
- A direct attack on Ryuu Tama’s life or loved ones by Sunagakure or the Omni-Prime Facility. Direct attacks include: Fraud, Physical Violence, and Mental Trauma.
- The current Medical Sennin declares the contract void before an audience of the Medical Chief, and at least five other doctors.
- The Kazekage declares the contract void at any time with or without witness.
- Violation of Clauses 1, 2, 4, and 6.

If all terms are within acceptable parameters then the parties will sign their names below in ink infused with their own chakra so that their identies remain clear to all who read this contract in future refrence to the duites of Ryuu Tama.

Shin would look at the time, it was almost time for the cut off for the contract to arrive. Pulling his arms out of the homunculus cadaver he was working on, Shin would lift his hands up as Kohana would materialize to strip the elbow length medical gloves from his arms. She would take them to the hazard waste basket to be incinerated later that day.

IMG_1498.jpeg

He would let out a sigh as he quickly made his way from her research wing to his office space where he had recently met with Ryuu Tama before. Having come in on his day off he wasn’t wearing his traditional blue Medical Chief robes, but rather something more casual.

Stepping into the office that familiar awful taste of metal in the air signified that Tama had been here. He would look it over before chuckling to himself. He would pull out a pin and begin to make adjustments to the contract.

I, Ryuu Tama, First of His Name, First of the Hybrid, and Chakra Specialist PhD, do hereby sign away a portion of my freedom to the whims of Chikamatsu Shin, Medical Chief of Research and Development of the Omni Prime Medical Facility in regards to assisting CS Sunagakure’s Omni-Prime Facility with the following caveats;

”I know you are watching from nearby, how about you check my revisions before we get this signed?“

He let out a couple of chuckles.

”Must have been some time since you visited the political status of Sunagakure No Sato, but our Military Branches function without Sennin. Currently there is no one above me except the Kazekage. Even if we have Sennin from the Medical Branch they act directly under the Kazekage and are unaffiliated with the branches.“

He was curious how Tama would react to the stipulations that he would report directly to Shin himself.

You know honestly?” a haunting voice said reverberating through the office, “I think you’re right. I’ve been gathering information from other little paramilitaries I often forget how we have to do things different out here in Hell.

Small bolts of electricity arced around the chair opposite of Shin where he had sat last time as the giant’s body slowly solidified itself when a gust of air became trapped within those little bits of lightning until Tama manifested. With a wave of his hand another brush of air scooped the page up and caused it to drift down into an open hand. A flick of the wrist caused the paper to straighten as his eyes scanned over the documents. A few notes bothered him, and one he already knew was going to lead into negotiating but, that was a given. No way Suna was gonna fork over a billion yen for one completed project and a promise of two others.

Starting with the thing I’m most interested in….Clause 7. While I absolutely understand and agree with a monthly stipend, simply because it is more secure, I’m afraid that letting go of my cure for Chakra Cancer is going to cost you. On the black market I can easily sell this for 1.5 billion, but the problem there is that the only people on the black market who can afford it are the exact people I don’t want having it; particularly some of Suna’s enemies. I’m scum but, dammit even I have standards!
So how about we pay a single lump-sum and I’ll take the rest as stipends. 750 Million?” he smirked, knowing there was going to be a small back and forth over it, but Tama had confidence he could at least squeeze 500 million out of the Omni Prime. The cure for Chakra Cancer would put Suna back into a better limelight with the locals and maybe help them forget that they were hoarding the remains of chakra crystals.

But before that, and more importantly my other issue,” he said before starting a little bidding war, “is clause 1. I’m sure you’re aware of this but, I have lived for a very, very long time. The passage of days changes things in ways even someone as aged as I still can’t predict. The idea of answering to a single person is something I don’t take lightly - especially in a contract. These words on a paper may not mean much to you humans, but to us, they are soul binding. You’re basically asking me to hand over the keys to my freedom and, I can’t say I’m fond of that.
Say, Mother Suna forbid, something happens and you’re disavowed from Suna? I’d have to go with you, work under whatever practice you set up, and so long as it doesn’t hurt Suna I’d be forced to go with it: even if that meant doing something I normally wouldn’t otherwise.
Not that you seem to be that kind of a person, but you find all kinds of surprising personalities beneath the flesh of mankind. Everything else though I can agree with, even the change in Clauses 5 and 8; since this is your idea. So, let me be under the direction of the Omni Prime and those who need me, and not just yourself, and we can start this little bidding war for my cancer cure.

Tama placed the papers back down on the table and slid them back to Shin.

”1.5 billion yen distributed monthly over the course of ten years would grant you a 12.5 million yen monthly allowance, which is quite nice if you ask me... What if we were to drop that to a 10 million yen allowance and an initial 300 million yen down payment as a good faith offer? Still adds up to your requested sum, but in a more feasible structure in which I can budget and allocate funds for.“

Shin would wait for a moment, his face holding a soft grin to the creature before him that can seemingly bend time and space.

”Further more, what if we add a clause which states that if I, Chikamatsu Shin, were to leave the village or fall from good standings of the Omni Prime Medical Facility or Sunagakure no Sato you need no longer report to me but instead to the appointed Medical Chiefs of the Omni Prime Medical Facility at the time of my departure? The reason I wish to specify myself as your point of contact…“

Shin would hesitate for a slight moment before continuing with a soft sigh.

”I believe I am the only one of the three Medical Chiefs that can understand what it means to be not quite human, and surprisingly I have some concern as to what they would do if they were to discover that an Ancient was under contract. I suppose you could say I am trying to look out for you and your safety.“

Shin’s brow raised as he once again looked the creature over, ”Though I suppose one like yourself may not be accustomed to a mere mortal trying to look out for your best interest, but I can assure you that is my intent.“

He was being honest. Many Shinobi in the Land of Wind and within Sunagakure no Sato carried ill will towards the human consuming race known as the Ancients. These archaic beings were hard to understand and where knowledge isn’t had often time fear fills it’s place. Shin was not afraid, nor would he allow it from his supposed peers to ruin this chance to form an alliance with a brilliant mind.

Tama leaned back in his small chair to consider the new counter-offer, the strong wood holding him up complaining from the extra weight of his relaxed form. In his hand another cigarette appeared but out of a clear sign of respect he didn’t light it. Instead he simply played with it between his fingers, the soft paper holding the tobacco in place surprisingly never breaking or creasing as he did so. Shin had hit a personal note, rather he knew it or not. It was considerable that most of the Omni Prime refused to work with the scientist on a well earned bias, which made trying to turn over a new leaf real hard. Yet Tama was honestly willing to try and reclaim something of his mortal days when he was simply a respected scientist and doctor; long before the Ancient side of him dug its claws into his human soul.

The offer of a down payment with smaller monthly stipends was another drop of honey he was willing to lap up. The mad scientist needed those funds. Project after project came to him nightly and yet, with him turning away potential buyers due to a newly fixed moral compass, his reserves were quickly hitting critical mass. With that amount of money being offered, though a far cry from his original want, Tama could finish a project near completion that would give him something to work off for at least five years. So long as Suna didn’t abuse the privilege he was offering, and kept paying him, he’d have enough to set back into a separate account. A nest egg, if you will, for the inevitable demise he was sure to face someday.

The cigarette stopped spinning before he flicked it up into the air. As it flipped through the air, it suddenly changed forms from a cancer stick to a blue fountain pen with gold trim. It landed perfectly between his index and thumb as he reached down to sign his name along the dotted lines. As he did so he could feel that “Ancient Tingle” in his chest that were binding the words of the contract to his soul. Breaking it would have some rough consequences as currency was a major core of his living beliefs, but he decided to put a gamble on this man.

After all, where was the fun without the risk?

Done, and…done,” he said as he signed his portions of the contract, “I’ll take the chance. You make one hell of an argument Dr. Chikamatsu, but you’re right. I’m not used to humans giving me the time of day except to illicit certain procedures that no one else can. Though I am curious as to how you’ve come to the conclusion of how hard it is to be a monster…I’ll let you keep your secrets. Now, to fulfill the first part of my contract…

With the grace of a dancer the eight-foot tall man raised up from his chair and ran a single finger down behind the buttons of his white shirt. A small chakra blade cut the threads as it passed by, opening up his bare chest and abdomen. His body revealed a natural muscular setting, a form that didn’t require that Tama commit to physical training in order to maintain an obvious strength. The muscles were tight and soft at the same time, forming the vestiges of a “six pack” that revealed and hid itself behind soft flesh depending on how he moved. The hand that cut the buttons reached back up to where his stomach would be located, and dug deep into his flesh. The blood that welled up instantly didn’t drip to the floor, but instead solidified into a black-like ink and became a seal to which allowed his hand to dig even further into his body; to a point of the impossible as his elbow vanished within. His face was as a picture of inquisitiveness, as if he he was patting around in a hole in the ground looking for buried treasure. It lit up when his fingers finally grasped a book within that Ninjutsu void and withdrew from his stomach a small 3.5 x 5.5 inch leather notepad. The ink returned to blood, which returned to the obvious wound on his flesh, which then returned itself back to a natural state; Tama didn’t button back up his shirt though.

And this is for you,” he said tossing the surprisingly clean and dry notebook at Shin. It was wrapped in a simple twine and looked like anyone could have opened and read it’s contents; granted they were able to get it away from Tama in the first place.
No code, no key. Simple and straight forward. The final recipe is on the last five pages, and the methods I used to reach that conclusion fills the rest. I’d keep all but the last five to yourself if you really want me to be accepted. While it is a major breakthrough for science and medical, I had to take some dark roads to find that cure. Cancer isn’t a mistress that enjoys being scorned.

As Tama would sign the contract a smile would come to the Overseer’s face.

”You see, we know what it is like to be seen as other, as we are a collective. Intertwined souls woven to make a system that is functionally ideal for the clan which places servitude above all else.“

As Shin spoke his eyes would dance like a kaleidoscope through every hue imaginable before settling on red.

”Though, one of us has never been human. A shadowy plague that dwelled within my brother’s soul awaiting the day to manifest and spit his throat.“

His eyes returned blue.

”But fear not, we have worked through the unbridled rage and resentment and now as my Persona, my relationship with my sister is better than ever.“

He would take the small leather journal and place it into a small drawer beside him to revisit at a later point.

”While I may not know what it is like to be a monster by definition, a part of me resonates with being assigned as a monster by actions.“

He let out a sigh before standing to his feet and extending an hand towards Tama.

”I appreciate your contribution today, I will be speaking with the Kazekage’s office myself to have the first round of funds transferred over in the morning.“

Tama’s overly large hand met Shin’s and his smile widened. Finally. A small spark shot into the air the moment their hands touched and there was a visible relaxation to the giant’s frame. As if his entire goal had little to do with the money and more to do with the act of binding his soul to a contract. The Curse Seal from the Kazekage, a portion of his Human Soul embedded into a young clone, and now this. The Ancient Side of Tama had no choice in matters anymore, it would have to listen to him now and keep in line for the next ten years!

Shin’s words and colorful eyes took the scientist aback somewhat. Multi-Soul Inhabitant? How many personalities did the Head of Medical keep trapped in that form he wondered, but didn’t question it. The giant had a struggle of will with the loose morals of his Ancient Blood that constantly threatened to tank his reputation any chance it got, so he had little room to talk. It wasn’t that Tama had a “second personality” at all, but he was very much a victim of the Dr. Jekel/Mr. Hyde scientist cliche. In order to progress in their field, one had to drop pride, moral obligations to humanity, and seek the never ending Answers; a feat in which Tama was more than capable of doing. However, the Solar Court Ancients were beings of Pride and Hubris made manifest and, despite his best, the blood within would eventually bleed Pride back into his actions until they became the eventual Hubris that was always the fall of Ryuu Tama. He had managed to cut out that prideful curse for now by removing his very soul, and while that had awakened some fun new powers it was nothing compared to the strength offered by the Solar Courts when he had his human soul to burn in offering.

Well, now you’re in league with a creature of the dunes that is considered both - step lightly, because your rivals no longer will,” his hand released Shin’s and the spark faded, “Now, if you’ll be so kind as to excuse me I have business back home in those dunes. Now that I got some cash flowing back into the coffers soon, I can go back to my meticulous planning and get started on calling on favors to get the materials to finish up my other contractual obligations.
Oh!” he stated right as he began to walk away, “when you need to call me in, just use this.” Tama tossed what basically added up to being a beeper at Shin with a single red button. “Give it a push and it’ll contact me without risking your delicious looking birds. Oh, and…next time, I’d like to give those artificial souls I hear you’re good at making a taste. I’m always looking for ways to cut carbs.

Then on that joke, his image blurred until it was no more than a static breeze that slipped out through the cracks in the door and back out of the hospital.

Shin would grin.

”Fear isn’t an emotion I’ve experienced in years. Don’t worry.“

The soon to be Sennin would laugh as he placed the beeper in a pocket.

”I’ll set a dozen of the souls aside the next time I am updating my Hosa Homunculi models for you, let me know how they treat you. If it’s a safe alternative for your kind perhaps more Ancients would be willing to come to Sunagakure no Sato and choose to live in peace with our civilization.“

He smiled as the man faded away. Patting the contract to align the papers within it, Shin would write in the air with a single finger, causing ink and paper to form out of his chakra, making an identical copy. The original would then be rolled and condensed into a sealed capsule that he would store in a vial in his drawe that looked to be filled with identical capsules, but to the unaware, this vial of medication was a simple concoction to ease the pain of headaches from stress.

He had his first contract, and with a smile he knew where to get another.
