The sunlight shimmered graciously through the clouds above as a lone shinobi made her way along a well beaten path cut through a very open field. The sun shafts graced her face ever so gently as she slowly raised her view towards the heavens above to bask in the glory of the day. Today was the day she had been planning and looking forward to for so long a day in which she would spend with her younger and most dearest of brothers. She couldn’t remember the last time the two of them were allowed time to just be siblings together and in hopes of this day she had packed a small lunch consisting of freshly made sandwiches and two small bags of chips. Stopping in the middle of the beaten path she released a soft sigh of hope that today would be the day she could accomplish what she had failed to do so many times before, establish an everlasting bond with her sibling. Slowly she tightened her grip upon her basket of goodies and began to almost run down the path in excitement she couldn’t wait another minute just thinking about the day no she must seize the day within her grasp and make use of every moment it held within. That was her plan at least little did she know such hopes would usually lead to sadness as they are thrown against the harsh wall of reality and shattered.

A couple minutes flew by as she approached a slender oaken wonder; its history one for the ages for it was here that the young girl had met her first friend and kohai a young boy by the name of Hoshi. As well as a strange young woman who she still searched for till this day in order to scold her about her actions. After all who in their right minds would snatch another person’s property and discard it so haphazardly. It was then that she returned her attention to the beautiful work of art before her a shining example of an ancient being that could last the ages, countless years mere footsteps in the lifespan that was this benevolent beauty. This oaken creature casts upon her a sense of awe and inspiration as she watched the sun beams flicker through its golden hued leaves in a way that could lock one in a state of pure bliss as you bask in its shadow.

“The stories you could tell if you could only talk.” The sounds of her words drifted freely from her naïve lips as she reached out with one hand slowly to touch upon the grand old oak tree that stood before her. Upon her skin she felt the brittle back that protected the very core of this living relic. With bated breath she closed her eyes to try and observe the life energy that flowed through all living things and this being of creation was no different. Rubbing gently against the bark of the beauty following the cracks and curves that flowed along its body like tiny rivers all leading to one central point of origin, she smiled for this was in fact the best place in which she could conduct her picnic with her estranged sibling. With a soft flick of her white locks she turned and faced down the beaten path a smile from ear to ear upon her face, with eyes softly glazed over as she enjoyed every second of these moments.

“I know you are nearby, it never surprises me to see your shadow cast upon the wall when I believe to be completely alone. You’re my secret protector a being I know will always step in if I am truly in trouble. Because even though we may not speak we are bound together by bond stronger than any other, blood. Within our veins runs the blood of our parents and within that blood runs their hopes and dreams for us. For you’re the continuation of our family line, and me a life of happiness and freedom to roam the world.” The female’s voice ran low and silent almost as she looked towards the grand building that during the early morning hours casts its magnificent shadow upon the tree upon which she rested. Her eyes now closed to the world once more as she listened to the wind speak its riddles, and reveal its truths. For she knew her eyes were her greatest strength but alas they would also lead her to her end if she grew to reliant on them to guide her way.

“Come my brother let us make haste and enjoy our lives to their fullest on this glorious day in which you are free of all responsibilities. I wish for you to drink for my glass and taste the fruit of thy freedom even if only for a fleeting moment.” She whispered once more her eyes still shut and her body stiff as a board against the creature of wonder. The freshness of the air in which she breathed seemed to place the young woman in a trance from which all words could flow free from her lips without fear of retribution or ridicule. Of course today also marked her freedom as well freedom from her daily doses, freedom from her habitual task, today she would not partake in her medication so as to be able to meet her brother as who she truly was and not as someone else. She was never to be whole for as long as she leaned upon the crutch of her medication, she needed to conquer her own life with her own hands to ever truly be herself. A task not so simple but one that she dreamed to one day achieve just as this lone oak tree has achieved and prevailed where many others had failed to stand tall and firm within this sea of green yards away from the tree line that act as a coast line to the sea of green.

Today was the day, the day that Kikei had planned for and waited patiently for. ' What was I thinking, letting her decide everything, how could I let this happen'. Was the only thought going through Akihiro's mind as he watched from afar as Kikei made her way towards the tree ever so joyfully and not a care in the world, which what seemed to be a basket held ever so tightly as if scared to drop it as it would ruin her day.

Kikei voice almost like a whisper "I know you are nearby,..." Akihiro puzzled, how long she had known. Has she always known that he would always look over her to protect her from danger.

Akihiro stepped out from the shadows the buildings had cast and onto the path that many shinobi followed when visiting this lonely oak tree. Akihiro's eyes glaring down at the ground fixed on his feet making sure not to scuff up his shoes. Step after step he knew he was getting closer to his sister. He glanced up for only a few second but felt much longer as the view before him was outstanding.

The oak tree's skeletal bough's twisted and glittered like brass coils set facing a lambent and curling flame, as the light hit. It's great Bole curved this way and that sprouting new branches that birth of golden hued leaves, creating luscious leaves that sparkle in the faintest of light. It's massive roots danced in and out of the dirt in abstract waltz's and minuet's as they gripped the hard ground with strapping and powerful limbs. With its great bough's It strives to touch the sky, and with its noble roots, it strengthens it's hold on the ground.

He finally reached his sister's side, careful to avoid any unnecessary eye contact he glanced over and couldn't help but wonder 'What could possibly be going through her mind' as she has a hand placed on the tree's bark."It's nice to see you are actually on time, why are you standing like that? Did you happen to skip out on your medication this morning?" He whispered to her, even asking a question he was sure of the answer to.

The wind grew still as if to signal the young maiden that her guest had arrived as she opened her eyes to look upon him. Noticing his refusal to look upon her charcoal colored eyes due to knowing all too well how quickly she could activate her abilities to lock him within his own mind for her own amusement. She was a bit disheartened by his untrusting nature but she wouldn’t let this bring her down not while she rested in the shadow of such a fierce and noble oak tree that braved the cold for years and never faltered in its attempt to survive the harsh weather.

“I don’t know why you ask when you should already know the answer to that. You watch me every morning and monitor if I do or don’t.” She hissed at him in annoyance, he always had to be snarky with her even before he enrolled in the academy he always had some sort of smart remark to make when it came to addressing her. She hated it, she felt like he was always trying to belittle her with every remark. She turned her back on him quickly and laid her head upon the trunk of the majestic oak and breathed in deeply of its natural scent to help calm her mind before turned back towards her brother.

“Now I planned for us to have a nice picnic and then we could go for a stroll along the tree line. Nothing to drastic but I guess it could be considered boring now that I say it out loud how about we go around looking for people to talk to or play some friendly matches of rock paper scissors to see who gets lead our little expedition!” She exclaimed the last part with much haste and enthusiasm as any chance to play a friendly game always got her blood pumping, though she already knew he would decline. He hated to play any sort of game with her always accusing her of mind games and other such things. Of course the truth was that she did in fact cheat and play mind games with him. Then again if it was a game of strength she would lose hands down as his training under the parents was much, much more harsh after all training was always treated as a game for her compared to his. She sighed at that though already things were rocky; at least to her they were even though all that was said was a few words. Placing down her basket she then proceeded to slap her face with both hands simultaneously as a way to snap herself out of it.

“Okay no games, how about we just talk about how tough it is dealing with being a shinobi, missions just keep coming I can’t even comprehend how you deal with it all. I feel so stressed out every time they request my assistance. I’m terrified of the day I have to actually take part in combat.” She thought to herself and looked towards the floor the ground exposed due to countless feet having stood in her exact location.

“I only ask to see if you will attempt to lie knowing that I’m usually watching you” Akihiro responded with a soft voice noticing that his sister was trying her best to show that it hurt any time he would bring up that subject.

“A picnic you say? So that’s what the basket you brought along is for.” He gestured towards the basket as if reaching for it curious to what’s inside. He could never be too sure with her it could be anything. ‘It better not be a ploy to let my guard down….she’s known for being quite tricky.’ He thought to himself. Even after watching her as closely as he does he never knows what to be ready for. He felt himself moving towards her direction and quickly stopped to not off-set his sister or make her uneasy.

“A picnic sounds fine I could use some relaxing time, so what did you bring for us to eat?” He asked while pulling his hands back and into his pockets as to show no signs of being on guard around her. “While we eat, you can tell me how everything has been on your missions, I can always follow you around you know. I also want to know how you think in some of the situation you have been in.” He drops his head back to look up at the sky and to do his best to take in this wonderful day with his sister and hope that nothing happens to ruin this opportunity to bond with her.
