Jomei Matsui's Jounin Exam
His heart was racing as he waited in the shadows of the stadium’s field entrance; nervously taking his place for when the voice pumping out of the loudspeakers would finally call his name. Jomei had come so far to reach this stage today, and in the final moments before walking out into the limelight, he searched deep within, visualizing his plan for the trial at hand. Of course he had come with a plan in mind, yet he found uncertainty once his competition completed their turns. He certainly wasn’t going to put on the biggest show, or so he thought as he considered his strategy one last time-- And then that fateful moment finally came.
His march onto the field wasn’t a confident one, or even an upstanding stroll. Instead, Jomei made an awkward approach to the starting line, taking a moment to look at it his target from a profile angle one last time. “Is it alright if I start from fifty meters out?” He called up to the announcer as if he were a deciding figure, and began to take his place from his lengthy distance away. He simply couldn’t cheat his arrow taking a full flight, or his spectators from seeing a proper showcase of the Stone’s potential. In fact he had appeared before the onlookers in a new costume and armor set: a well-tailored crimson uniform of a somewhat retro Iwa design, with clay-colored trimmings, and scaly, golden armor fit onto his clothing in small, flexible plates. In short, he didn’t leave his sense of style behind in the Capital, and came dressed to maim.
So then the clock began to tick, and Jomei revealed the many hands he was dealt as they multiplied in a very unique display; spawning via rapid growth from his oblique. All four of the appendages were ruby red, with hardened skin more akin to an exo skeletal body than a mere human boy, and sharp barbs on his forearms. He bore the Hands of Tsuchigumo, and set his plan into motion with a symphonic harmony of multitasked actions. As he unclasped the bow strapped to his back and whipped it around to his frontside. The weapon expanded itself into the ready form, nearly tripling in size by the time another one of his traveling hands set the webfinity string across the bow, and another drew his first and only arrow. The catalyst. Crafted from a mixture of his golden webbing and lightweight aluminum, Jomei created the perfect delivery for an explosive arrow unlike anything he had improvised before. Within the arrowhead there was a charge powerful enough to impress even this crowd, and a swelling force of chakra Jomei couldn’t have manage to produce without the arcadianite powering his attack.
And so, with a mighty pull, Jomei drew back the tail end of his single arrow and took a deep breath, as greatness stared him down from fifty yards away. “I got this” he whispered before loosening his index, middle finger and thumb from the tail of his most clever point of attack. The beep of the clock slowed as the arrow took flight, heading directly for nothing short of a bull’s eye, and the plan that followed. His extra appendages did more than idle beneath him as he took the first shot, and Jomei did not waste a second. A combination of clean hand seals molded his chakra, and the mystic force that was his chakra flooded the stadium setting… One and all could feel the pressure of his spirit in full bloom, and watched as the single arrow punched deep into the heart of the target, and longed to do so much more harm. Some say there was a brief shimmer of light before the shard ignited into a burst of flames and force, but many of the spectators can only recall the shock of the blast. It was rocking, and came with the force of a hurricane, only to spin in place, in spite of physics.
As Jomei lowered the bow to his side, he revealed the two hands with held the Tora seal, channeling the energy it took to redirect and maintain such a force, using one’s own chakra.
The center of the stadium floor glowed as if a heavenly star has created in Soon’s Haven today, yet it continued to shrink down, and the burning ring became less, and less magnificent as the caster made his jutsu more manageable. In order to accomplish the finishing touch to his combination, Jomei spent weeks practicing this exact strategy, and the motions felt natural as he displayed them. The last two hands revealed themselves with his middle and ring fingers pressing against his palms, triggering the jettison of two streaks of golden excellence; the rarely witnessed, golden hachihashi webbing. Jomei fired his webbing into the spinning vortex of flames, leaving the crowd to witness as his the flames consumed his webbing, and both substances ceased to be seen from beneath smothering black smoke. “I did it” Jomei realized as he eyed his target through the smoke, and when it cleared the crowd would see it as well, he certainly did do it; he made a mess of it.
The smoke cleared to reveal a molten cocoon of golden webbing, which covered the target and field alike. And once the buzzer rang, Jomei turned to acknowledge the crowd with an energy much less anxious than a moment ago. He seemed confident and carefree as he turned to exit the dance floor, even waving to a couple of encouraging faces as he departed. Once things seemed over and down, a rumbling came from within the coccoon where he buried the target. “Uh?” Even Jomei was confused as he doubled back to watch the target tremble. Then, the golden webbing began to tear and rip strand by strand as if the wooden target was about to get up and walk away. Riddled and intrigued, the stirring crowd settled back in place long enough to watch as the giant coccoon erupted with countless Sand Spiders which picked the target apart once the coccoon was set. Talk about a fatality.
